AMD Zen 2 vs 9900k More Cores = faster CPU ?

Whatever you say..

most people will be well served by a 6/12 for years to come, with 8/16 being more than enough for the vast majority of users workloads.

For those people, a faster 6/12 or 8/26 is going to be more beneficial than a slower 12/24 or 16/32.

I honestly didn't even think of AMD when I built my PC, I had a 3770k and wanted to upgrade to the next level of that so I chose the 9700k.

Looking back now had I looked on reddit and here more, and saw the great value that the AMD side was offering I would have hands down went with the 2700x.  But at the time I didn't know the FPS difference at 1080p @ 144FPS which is what I use.  I don't play shooters alot, mostly single player RPGS action adventure types.  I still wanted the high FPS though with max settings on everything so I guess looking back now I made the right choice.  I OC'd my chip to 5.0 and I literally saw a FPS difference in Witcher 3 from about 100-110 to about 120-130.

THat is the best bang for your buck for only 100Mhz less.. big deal.  Good purchase iboney33

Why do I feel like we've been down this road.. I never said higher cores were needed by the majority of people.. I'm personally buying which ever processor is the fastest from AMD. I don't care about 16 cores either at this point. If the 16 core is the fastest then I'm buying it, though.. And we have no idea how many cores will be needed 5 years from now.. The 9900K beats the 9700K at gaming because it has hyper threading, which goes to show cores/threads are starting to matter more and more as time goes on.. Now, if the 16 core Zen 2 CPU is just as fast as the 9900K for around the same price then guess what? That's A WAY better buy than the 9900K and much better for future proofing if you don't plan on upgrading CPUs. EVEN if cores don't matter NOW..

Saying 100Mhz is not a valid metric to go by. Remember there was a 5GHz Bulldozer AMD CPU. That does not mean it will be as fast as a 5GHz Intel... and it was not. IPC is the key there.

ThreadRipper coming in August 32c 64t

AMD removed Threadripper from their roadmap, so we have no clue when a Threadripper 3000 well be released.

Don't be surprised if we have to wait until 2020 for a Threadripper 3000.

Unless your news source is less then 48 hours old then you're incorrect.

https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.digitaltrends.com/computing/amd-threadripper-ryzen-3000-cpus-wont-replace/%3famp

But please do tell if you have more recent news, as someone who has a Threadripper CPU, I would be highly interested.

Furthermore, here's how you properly souce when a company states that something is going to be released.

No kidding I didn't know that.  So you can use this with TR uh ?  I know you need a beast of a cooler for all those cores and TDP.  Just go water cooling if possible and case space and what not.

Oh, no there is a specific TR4 version.

The two on the top and bottom are TR4 heatsinks, the one in the middle is a standard one (direct heatpipe method).

My noctua performs better then a 280AIO (nzxt kraken).

Yeah, it's probably a supply issue.  I'm sure that a Threadripper 3000 will be released eventually, perhaps Noctua knows something that we don't with a release date in 2020.

And yes, Noctua is worth every penny, they are indeed ugly, but they are some of the best performers on the market.

I actually like the brown fans, but I agree that they clash with many PC builds.

I have redux and chromax noctua fans, the redux being a two tone grey and the chromax being all black except the spacers, in which you get to choose the colors.

Information shows it beats 9900k in multicore speed but that is no surprise to me.  AMD has been better for multicore speed.
