Is it worth it?

kristaps552

Is it worth getting the Asus Xonar DGX 5.1 sound card, if used with Creative fatal1ty hs 800?

Also will I hear an improvement in sound quality/loudness/bass clarity over the sabertooth z77 audio solution with the particular headset?

Firstly, sorry for the late reply, but, could you tell me why it's not worth it and why wouldn't I hear an improvement? This forum was supposed to be helpful not grumpy. :)

Anyhow, after posting this I discovered a review, and the reviewer said that there is a massive improvement, so yeah.

Thanks anyways.

If you need any of the features of the DGX, like dolby headphone, etc, then that's fine, but the headphones will always make the bigger difference.

get new headphones before buying a new soundcard.
This. You will see far more gains here than gains from a soundcard coupled with (any) headset. You really can't reap the full benefits of a sound card if you don't have headphones that are capable of bringing them out.

If you're going for a proper soundcard, get a good headset first, something that will utilize the power of the soundcard.

i bought a beyerdynamic dt770 then a essence stx soundcard abit later and i got to say, the improvement going to the beyerdynamic was infinitely bigger then when i put in the soundcard. The heaphone was a giant improvement from my generic gaming headset, then i noticed a slight improvement when i went from onboard mobo sound(msi z77-gd55) to the essence stx. Sound become clearer and nicer, though the difference to new headphones was definitely alot bigger and a better investment.

I have the same motherboard! Just bought an Sound Blaster Zx and I got it for a good price. But for the normal price which is pretty expencive, so i would say that I isn`t really worth it. The sabertooth z77 already have a great onboard sound card so I personally did not notice VERY much difference. The sound is a little better, clearer and there is absolutely no background sound at all. So it`s really a personal choice. The sound will probably be better, but with the sabertooth motherboard you should`t expect too much difference :)
