Undervolting

ChrisZH

Can undervolting or overclocking cause a system lock up and requires a manual reset? Or could it be my cpu overclock?

Both undervolting and overclocking can cause system instability. If you don't have enough voltage to run at the clock rate will cause crashes, overclocking will result in the same behavior. Best to find stable settings and run 8 hours of stability tests on all major components.

Its weird because i was doing an undervolt and overclock in heaven for 3 hours and it was fine but the second i exited it locked up. Im using the Radeon VII so it gets pretty hot without undervolting. Stock its at 1801mhz and 1125v and im trying to get it down as much as i can now without overclocking to help with temps. Should i be using firestrike instead?

Over a thousand volts?! Holy shit.

If it's crashing, the under volt might be hurting the memory stability. Would be my guess. Assuming your CPU is stable.

What do you mean memory stability? Should i have left memory alone?

When overclocking or undervolting, focus on one component or variable at a time, make sure its stable do a quick 30min stress test note the settings keep changing until you get unstable dial it back again check for stability short term once your happy with where your at. Then do a min 8 hour stress test of the entire system try to stress everything at once, memory, cpu, gpu.

My card at stock is 1801mhz and 1125mV. I think i got poot silicone lottery here. Would updating new BIOS on card do anything? Or updating new BIOS on my mobo help at all?
