Old HDD help

Fosh612

My father has an old laptop that he wants to get rid of but the hard drive still has information he may want. I need help figuring out what it is and what adapter he could use.

That is an IDE hard drive.

I don't know if IDE to SATA exists? But probably.

That's called an IDE cable, or PATA.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

They do but they require some cable jankery. An IDE to USB would be a lot more convenient.

I believe that would work, it has independent power and data which are usually required for these hard drives.

I use a usb hard drive adapter. Runs 12-15 bucks at microcenter. It has a desktop ide, laptop ide, and sata plug. It also comes with a wall wart and adapter to power drives.

They do make a reversible ide to sata adapter, and a laptop to desktop ide adapter. The ide to sata adapters are flaky at best and using a combination of two adapters is not advisable. Can it be done? Definitely, but it is expensive and silly.

Good enough. It's not fast or elegant, but it transfers data just fine.
