They do but they require some cable jankery. An IDE to USB would be a lot more convenient.

I use a usb hard drive adapter. Runs 12-15 bucks at microcenter. It has a desktop ide, laptop ide, and sata plug. It also comes with a wall wart and adapter to power drives.

 

They do make a reversible ide to sata adapter, and a laptop to desktop ide adapter. The ide to sata adapters are flaky at best and using a combination of two adapters is not advisable. Can it be done? Definitely, but it is expensive and silly.
