Alcatel Idol 4S with Windows 10 has officially been announced for T-Mobile U.S. By: Richard Devine of Windows Central Looks as though Alcatel is adding their own flagship windows phone. It is unknown if Alcatel will open the phones to outside of the US anytime soon though and this could be bad as Europe seems to have a larger Windows phone user base than the US [at least that is my understanding]. This is cool, more OEM's jumping in on the Windows platform as it should be. I am excited for this but the only thing is I for one wont be buying one as I am not ready to own another flagship just right now, my 950 still has plenty of life in it right now.

Source: New York Post It all started with my late night Reddit browsing today Not good for Microsoft's only large customer for Windows Phone when the NYPD ditched the platform but I think the NYPD is better off with iOS and Android. I think the NYPD is better off to have their apps ported to either iOS or Android. Now, are those phones no longer supported by Microsoft because if I'm not mistaken, those phones will still receive updates. Basically, what the NYPD did is flog a dead horse. Microsoft tried but questionable business decisions finally lead to its demise.

Mine was a Sony Ericsson Xperia X8. It originally run Android 1.6 Donut but later received a 2.1 Eclair update. It was okay at first but it severely bogged down later on, only to find out that Android back then didn't have TRIM until their 4.3 Jelly Bean in 2013. Also, earlier versions of Android apparently didn't have Garbage Collection until 2.3 Gingerbread. I think Android only became very good during the release of Ice Cream Sandwich (4.0) and Jelly Bean (4.1) with triple buffering for smoother performance. Android 3.0 Honeycomb for tablets is kinda meh.

If you want further proof that Microsoft is done with their mobile division, how about giving away 500 patents relating to mobile? Source: Gadgets 360, Nokiamob HIGHLIGHTS HMD Global has received 500 Nokia design patents The patents were received from Microsoft, earlier owner of the rights HMD Global may integrate Lumia Camera UI on future Nokia phones So yeah, Microsoft is just keeping those ten existing Windows 10 Mobile users on an extended support for security patches and they gave up the patents especially the ones for the camera to HMD, and after that, Microsoft is done with Windows 10 Mobile. While I don't think Nokia will make a huge comeback like take over existing Samsung users, as long as they play their cards right this time, I can see a steady growth. The Nokia Lumia line was know for their smartphone cameras (too bad they're all Windows Phones): Nokia Lumia 920 - first smartphone to introduce optical image stabilization for improved low light shots and smoother video recording (although with jello effect) Nokia Lumia Icon/930 - phone with HRD audio recording for video Nokia Lumia 1020 - a smartphone with a behemoth 41 megapixel sensor for improved digital zoom and pixel oversampling for 5 megapixel photos Unfortunately, both Nokia and Microsoft think that a good smartphone camera is all they need to have more customers. Little do they know, both Apple and Android OEMs have stepped up their games when it came to smartphone cameras and many of these features that Nokia is so proud of is already found in modern flagship phones. This is evident with the Galaxy S6/S6 Edge and the LG G4 which are very well received for their cameras. But then again, I have to keep my expectations low when it comes to smartphone cameras with one simple truth: a smartphone camera won't be as good as a DSLR with full frame sensor. So I'll keep an eye on whatever Nokia does with their Android phones and they might steal some limelight from the struggling Essential Phone. With that said, I think it's a hit in the nail message to all Windows Phone fans that Microsoft is NOT making a mythical "Surface Phone".

Source: Forbes How many times is this Microsoft? First it was the Courier tablet then the Surface Mini both of which got axed and never saw the daylight and now Microsoft’s last stand on the smartphone market. But let’s not forget that Microsoft also killed Windows 10 Mobile development and all existing W10M phones are on extended support until 2019. Personally I would like to have a third player in the smartphone market other than iOS and Android. Unfortunately when companies like Microsoft (Windows Mobile 6.5) and RIM (BB10OS based on QNX) slacked off and just shrugged at the small competition namely iPhone 3G (because the first iPhone wasn’t even a real smartphone at launch) and T-Mobile G1 (world’s first Android phone) go big. I’m glad that Microsoft came into realization and decide to put the project back to the shelf because it’ll be a waste of money to develop and sell a device only a dozen people would want and it end up in a fire sale.

Hey there! Still, after a not-so-short research: How can I access the source code of a web page on a Windows Phone, Windows 10, Edge? (And yes, I need the code from the browser on the phone!) What is actually pretty easy on Desktop, turned out to be complicated on Windows 10 mobile: there is no Alt+, right-click... In Chrome it typically works with typing "view-source:" in front of the URL. Maybe there is something similar for Edge? Hope someone has an idea! Thanks!

The Photos app from Microsoft is unpleasing for me at its current state. Everything is sorted by date. I don't want any of that, just want everything in front of me all in one. Like viewing all pictures at once like its one folder. Can't find any good apps on the store. Does one even exist? Plus its not very good to transfer your wallpapers and seeing them not showing in the app only to realize they're on the BOTTOM because of their Date tag

So, bit of a problem. Recently, my Steel Series Siberia V2's fell apart. Literally. The microphone stopped working, and about an hour later the left side headphone literally broke off of the top strap. I was using this headset not only as a headset, but as a pair of headphones for work. Now, I am in the market for a new pair of cans. I'm going with actual headphones this time, and just gonna get a mod-mic for headset use. I have a couple of pairs I am considering, but that is not the point of this particular thread. The point of this thread, is can I play audio to a mobile amp, via the micro USB port on my Windows Phone HTC One M8? I've tried googling this, and just get useless results for Windows Phone apps that aren't related to my question AT ALL. I generally use either VLC Media Player, or youtube as a source for my music. I don't use Pandora or Spotify because they are apparently unaware of Synthwave and Retro Electro as genres (which is surprising. And the last time I checked them was maybe three months ago, so it could have changed). Basically, does ANYONE here know if OTG is a thing on the Windows 8 Phone, HTC One M8? I know that the android version supports it, but that tells me fuck all because Windows Phone. and don't ask why I have a Windows Phone. I'm so sick and tired of it that my next phone will be an android. Windows Phone is only good for the live tiles and security through obscurity (because fucking NO ONE uses Windows phone except for me, a dude I know at work, and maybe 3 people I know online)

Microsoft app logs you into Windows 10 using your phone One step closer to ditching the password. By: John Fingas of Endgadget Source: http://www.engadget.com/2016/03/09/windows-10-sign-in-by-phone/ Other Sources: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/store/apps/phone-sign-in-beta/9nblggh5lb73 http://www.pcworld.com/article/3041950/windows/microsoft-wants-your-phone-to-wirelessly-log-you-into-your-windows-10-pc.html http://www.morningnewsusa.com/microsoft-testing-phone-sign-in-beta-to-unlock-windows-10-pcs-via-bluetooth-2363423.html Ok umm . . . This is Awesome. Well this article is short, but after some more research (see the other sources) it seems Microsoft is close to getting close to having password-less access to the Windows eviroment. I know Google has been teasing about doing this but Microsoft already has a Beta on hand, albeit for internal testing, and could be available for public testing soon. I am excited to test it, when it is released. Thoughts?

The minefield of the overly-competitive smartphone market is proving too difficult even for an industry giant like Microsoft. Despite the billions thrown into promoting and developing the WIndows Phone platform, the market response is unapologetically rejective to the offerings from the company... and then some. I have an HTC One M8 For Windows (Obviously) and I shined up for the insider fast ring to get the newest windows phone iteration, only problem is the after going thru the process (agreeing that my phone might go down the $#!ter and restarting.) I go to the Phone Update page and tap "Check Update" and nothing, even after over 40min of waiting, and I know for a fact that the M8 is compatible with Win10.

I did (and still do) have a Nokia Lumia 735, but I smashed the screen, and repairs are ridiculously expensive. I could just get the same phone again, but I've become a bit annoyed at Windows Phone, I still like it, butI wish there were more (and better) apps, plus the fact that I want to get a smartwatch and, other than the Microsoft band, smartwatches don't play well with Windows Phone. So, any suggestions for an android phone, with a nice android skin, preferable NFC and any other interesting features, like being waterproof (although that isn't a requirement) would be appreciated. Thanks.

In the recent months Microsoft has been focusing on developing applications for Android and iOS but it seems to me that they aren't giving much 'love' to their own platform. Try thinking about It like this, if Microsoft is exporting their key apps (eg: Office Mobile and Cortana etc) to other platforms, what's gonna be there to entice users to Windows 10 Mobile - things that they can't get anywhere else? The issue that detracts many people from the Windows Mobile platform is the lack of apps in the store - but they want the Office Suite and Cortana etc, now they can get these apps somewhere else and get a much more fruitful app store along with it. What do you guys think? Will Windows 10 Mobile ultimately be a flop?
-
Hi all. Thought I would post another discussion thread 'cause why not. Windows Phone appears to be such a big flop. Now yes I know, Microsoft just wanted your phone to sync with your computer and I have no problem with that. It's the support for it or lack thereof. It drives me mad that the app store on things like the Apple TV is bigger than on Windows Phone. It would be better if Microsoft did something like using an Android skin and incorporating Windows Sync into it, much like Samsung's bonus apps that come on their phones/tablets. That would be much smarter as people are more likely to buy a phone running Android that syncs with your PC rather than getting a new phone on a completely new platform. That's just my opinion, be sure to post yours below! Thanks once again. -Alpha.

I'm currently in an unpractical situation. Often I stay up longer than my parents to watch my daily dose of anime. I've got a decent 32" tv that is ceiling mounted and good to look at from bed. The problem is however, that I need use speakers when watching in bed, since the audio cable from my headphones isn't long enough, and an extension lead would be very unpractical. I use my PC with HDMI to connect to the tv, and open my video's on my PC. I'm already a bit familiar with Kodi, so I think my best option is to use that. What my target is, is to stream the audio only from my anime to my phone (connected to my headphones), and watch the video on my tv. This way, I don't have to disturb my parents when watching tv, and I don't need to use my phone screen to watch it on now that I've got my nice tv. My current phone is a Lumia 730, but I could resort to using my old HTC Sensation (rooted) for this, if needed. So, any suggestions on how to tackle this?

Windows Central posted an article on how Windows Hello works on the new Lumia 950 and 950 XL by Microsoft. Link: http://www.windowscentral.com/how-iris-scanner-lumia-950-and-950-xl-works Don't worry, there won't be a blinding red light in your eye. Here is a youtube video of the demo from the Microsoft even on 10/6/2015 where at the beginning it shows Bryan Roper @Broper00 demoing Windows Hello before he demos Continuum. I found the information very interesting. It does just give the basics of how it works. If you want, try to dive deeper into iris scanning and share any information on here.

So here's another piece of Windows Mobile news from me! Some photos and specs have been leaked just before HP's reveal of their Elite X3 Phablet on the upcoming MWC 2016. In my last news thread I introduced the Lumia 650 and some of the folks said how the specs weren't really impressive so I really want to hear your opinions on this one! So the specifications should be something like this: 5.96-inch QuadHD display Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 Quad-Core SoC 4 GB RAM 32GB storage, microSD expansion up to 200 GB 16-megapixel camera on the back 8-megapixel front camera Windows 10 Mobile And a bunch of other features described in the article under sources. The device looks good to me and certainly doesn't disappoint with the specs or looks. I hope it's going to satisfy some users in the Windows Mobile market and bring new ones in! Microsoft officially announced Lumia 650, their latest and perhaps their last Lumia phone. You can check the introduction video here. Some of its features include: 5" AMOLED display with the resolution of 1280x720 16GB internal storage 1GB RAM 8MP rear camera and 5MP front camera Qualcomm Snapdragon 212 - Quad core 1.3GHz 2000 mAh battery The design of the new Lumia features a solid aluminum frame and comes with Windows Mobile 10 with many well known features like Cortana and Glance Screen. It's 6.9mm thick and and weighs 122g. It should be available on the 18th of February at a recommended price of a 199$. Personally, I'm really satisfied with the design and the overall look of the device. Many people on the reddit thread are worried about the performance because of the SD 212 however for a user like me I think it should meet my standards. Windows phone proved to me that it works really well on low end devices and I expect the wonderful experience I had on my HTC 8S with Windows Phone 8.1 to continue on this device as well. Since Windows Phone (and I assume new Mobile 10 version) works well with low RAM I do not fear that this device will not live up to my expectations. What do you think? Have you tried Windows 10 Mobile? What's your opinion on the SD212/1GB of RAM combo? Sources: Microsoft Website Reddit Thread EDIT: Here's a review of Lumia 650

Hey guys, as always, I have copied the whole article from my blog (except images, text under them, and some outside links) here, so you can simply scroll down and read. However, if you enjoy the full experience of reading, you can read the same text in my blog, here. Enjoy reading, and comment! I have said many things about the Windows 10 Mobile before I even had a chance to try it out. Well, now I’ve got a chance – Microsoft gave me to try out its Microsoft Lumia 950XL – the newest company’s flagship device with the successor of Windows Phone on the board. Let’s see, if was I right about the Windows 10 Mobile and is the Lumia 950XL worth the attention? Design is dull Many flagships nowadays look like no other phone – LG G4, Galaxy S6 and even iPhone 6 – all these phones are unique. However, Lumia 950XL’s design is quite… boring. It’s not bad by any means, but let’s understand that “not bad” is not enough when we are talking about flagships. The face of Microsoft Lumia 950XL looks pretty much the same as on the Lumia 550, but they have a huge price difference. Screen, a logo and the front-facing cam. That’s the case with most of the phones, but I’d like to see something more spectacular. The back side of the phone is a bit better – it’s made from polycarbonate, it has a nice aluminum Microsoft’s logo, and, of course, a huge camera module that makes this phone look at least a little bit different than others. So, it’s not the worst flagship phone design ever (I’d say it probably was Samsung Galaxy SIII), but Microsoft is not a leader in the market and this company definitely needs something more. But the screen is fantastic If you are that type of person who looks at the screen more than at phone’s design, Lumia 950XL may be the right choice for you. It has a 5.7-inch QHD AMOLED screen and it’s amazing – black is perfectly deep, and other colours are just fantastic. Visibility in the sunlight is fine, viewing angles are great. I love AMOLED screens! My opinion about Windows 10 Mobile hasn’t changed too much Windows 10 Mobile probably won’t catch up its competitors soon. Yeah, it is better than Windows Phone 8 was, but that’s not enough – there are quite a lot bugs: speakers are hissing and discharging the phone sometimes, also, it tends to reboot or just get stuck. And not to mention that app gap – apps such as Facebook or Messenger are insanely buggy and they have such little functionality, it drove me nuts. And there are no Feedly, Todoist or Snapchat apps – whooot? Although Windows 10 Mobile performs fine, I think that there are way too many loading screens and animations that make the phone feel not as quick as it should. Of course, while gaming or browsing the internet, Snapdragon 810 and 3 gigs of RAM does its job. What else is good? Windows Hello and Continuum. Damn, I loved these two and I want these to become a standart on smartphones! Windows Hello simply unlocks your phone by scanning your eyes with front camera and IR blaster and it works even when it’s dark (it’s slow, but it works), meanwhile, Continuum is basically our future. If you use your computer only to browse the web, check your email, watch some YouTube and work with Office, Continuum is fully enough for your needs. Yeah, it’s a bit laggy, especially when watching YouTube video, but at least, it gives us a peek how our future might look like. But overall, my opinion about the Windows 10 Mobile hasn’t changed yet – let’s give it some more time. Camera is almost perfect in light and terrible in dark Well, the title says it all. Microsoft Lumia 950XL has a perfect camera if you take pictures in good lighting – colors are vivid, everything is very sharp (not too much), white balance is okay – everything is just fine after all. Although, the autofocus could be a little faster. However, when I tried to take pictures in the dark, 950XL just couldn’t focus. I think it’s more a software issue, but that again proves my point that Windows 10 Mobile is pretty much in beta. I really hope that it is really not a hardware issue as I believe that this phone could take some really great pictures in the dark. You can check the photos with your own eyes here. Battery that will last you a day If you use you’re an intensive smartphone user (and if you buy a flagship device such as Lumia 950XL, you should be), the battery will last you no more than a day. I’m not impressed, but it’s fine. You can even go through two days if you use your phone very moderately. The only thing I was dissapointed in this department is the stand-by time. That was quite bad, even without the speaker hissling (one of those software issues). Microsoft Lumia 950XL is a different phone People usually use the word different when they want to say that something/someone is bad in a polite way. So, yeah, Microsoft Lumia 950XL is a different phone, it is not for everyone, it is created only for a very specific group of people. That group is so specific that Microsoft should even reconsider their tactic, the group is way too specific. Microsoft Lumia 950XL is a smartphone for those who don’t need apps, who are really patient and for those who won’t be annoyed by all the temporary (I hope) bugs of Windows 10 Mobile, and for those who are ready to pay a lot. It is a phone for those who need only a good pocket camera with a beautiful screen. It may be a phone for those, who are really enthusiastic about futuristic devices. It is a phone for real Windows Phone fans. In a conclusion, Microsoft Lumia 950XL is a phone for very few.

Hello guys, I hope that opinions are welcome here as well as reviews? If I'm wrong, please corrrect me before I'm getting banned . I have copied the whole article from my blog (except images and text under them) here, so you can simply scroll down and read. However, if you enjoy full experience of reading, you can read the same text in my blog, here. I must mention that is only an opinion, not a review. And I might be wrong about this. Also, I'm not saying that W10 Mobile won't success at all, I just say it won't happen soon. So keep that in mind, enjoy reading, and comment! Microsoft has recently launched its new mobile operating system or simply an update for Windows Phone 8 – Windows 10 Mobile. At first glance you could say that it looks cool – it has Continuum, universal apps, improved user interface, new Microsoft Edge browser, and so on. You’d say, it’s quite a big update and Microsoft should be back to the mobile game soon. You are not right. Windows 10 Mobile is not going to give Microsoft any more market share anytime soon and let me tell you why. Microsoft cannot catch up with the hardware Nokia Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL, two new flagship devices with Windows 10 Mobile, were launched in 2015 November. Both these devices have pretty similar specs – QHD AMOLED screen, 3 GB of RAM, Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 (Lumia 950) or 810 (Lumia 950 XL) processor along with 32 gigs of expandable storage. These specs sound really good for a 2015 flagship device, but the problem is that 2015 has almost ended. It doesn’t mean that Snapdragon 808 and 810 will instantly become obsolete, but we are going to get new devices with Snapdragon 820, Samsung’s Exynos 8890 or/and MediaTek Helio X20 processors including 4 gigs of RAM pretty soon. Microsoft really won’t launch a new flagship just a few months after they have launched Lumia 950 with 950 XL because that would be stupid. That wouldn’t be a huge deal for Apple or even Samsung as these companies have loyal fans and most of their buyers do not really look at the specsheet, but keep in mind that at least for the moment almost every potential Microsoft’s flagship’s buyer is a geek or tech enthusiast. And tech enthusiasts want to have the newest, the greatest, the fastest and Microsoft is not able to provide that. The only thing that Microsoft could do is lowering the price a lot. Only then they will be able to retrieve at least some interest. Windows 10 Mobile is still buggy as hell I haven’t tried Windows 10 Mobile myself yet (although Microsoft has promised me that I will get my review unit soon), but I have seen some reviews of Lumia 950/950 XL, for example, the one by Michael Fisher, and they are all telling the same – Windows 10 Mobile is incredibly buggy. I loved Windows Phone 7 for its stability, performance and perfectionism and back in the time, I was thinking that Windows Phone will become a major player in the mobile market because of this reason. Well, that didn’t happen probably because nobody was updated to Windows Phone 8. The other problem with Windows Phone 8 was those stability issues. Some WP8 phones, especially the low-end ones, were (and still are) incredibly laggy and unstable because of unknown reasons. The reason why I praised Windows Phone 7 so much was not common anymore. But Windows 10 Mobile?.. Why it stutters, lags and crashes on high-end hardware? Why loading apps sometimes takes so long? Why it’s less optimized for mobile than it was? Why the Windows 10 Mobile on 950/950XL looks like it’s still on a beta stage? A good start is half way to success, a bad start is half way to Firefox operating system’s destiny. Microsoft won’t attract Android or iOS users with so few apps For the moment, Windows 10 Mobile has the same number of apps as the Windows Phone 8. Maybe even a bit less. I know that Microsoft is working on making Windows 10 and Windows 10 Mobile more attractive for developers, but Windows 10 Mobile is not going to catch up with the apps coming year (and maybe never, who knows?), that is simply impossible. As people buy smartphones because of apps, they won’t buy Windows 10 Mobile devices. People need Snapchat, usable Instagram, Facebook, Messenger, YouTube apps! Oh, where are games? Where are premium apps and games that we have on iOS or Android? Oh, developers don’t make them because nobody buys them because most Windows Phone users are Lumia 630/530 users and they don’t have money for premium apps? Yes. Ppeople don’t buy premium Windows Phone devices because there are way too few apps on this OS? Exactly. Microsoft is in a closed circuit. Nobody buys Windows phones because nobody creates apps. Nobody creates apps because nobody buys phones. Microsoft is in a very difficult situation with apps. I don’t know if they can solve the problem. Making Windows run Android apps is not a solution. It would ruin Microsoft’s ecosystem, nobody would make native Windows apps as there would be almost no point in doing that. That would also make Windows look stupid as there would be inconsistency between Windows 10 Mobile and Android’s apps designs. What should Microsoft do? I don’t know. I hope that this Microsoft’s idea of unified OS with unified apps will help them to attract developers. Otherwise, Windows 10 Mobile will only attract Windows Phone’s fans. Windows 10 Mobile is not going to be successful anytime soon. But let’s give it some more time. Microsoft Windows 10 Mobile looks quite bad right now and I can guarantee you that it is not going to be successful anytime soon because Microsoft has been doing too many things wrong. They are always saying to us “Wait a little bit more.” They keep us waiting. We expected Windows 10 Mobile to be something amazing and we got almost the same thing under a different layer. However, let’s give it more time. I said the same about the Windows Phone 7, 7.5, 8, and 8.1. But I’m saying that again. However, this is probably the last time I’m saying this, because if Microsoft will not get back on their feet now, they will never do. Microsoft, we are patiently waiting. But one day our patience might be over and you will have to back off. If you will not catch up with the hardware, give us appealing pricing, solve the bugs including the sluggishness of the OS and if you won’t bring us apps, we won’t bring you the money, we won’t buy the devices and you will have to go with Palm and Mozilla.
