I am creating my own business by myself that will involve selling products/services essentially. It won't be created for another 12-18 months, so now is all about planning. Below are some researched provided stats in order to assist with answering my questions (let me know if you need any more info). I have zero web development knowledge and will only have around £10K to initially launch the business, so want to avoid professional fees where possible. (Like hiring a web dev... for the moment). - So thanks for your free help in advance, lol. -Global website that would receive traffic from across the world. -The office address and hub will be based in the UK for the first year. -I would estimate around 100K visitors per month to the website after the first year of trading. -Payment methods would be the standard VISA, Mastercard, PayPal etc. However, a specialist third-party provider will be assisting me with this. 1.) Do domain extensions (.com, .co.uk, etc) serve any technical purpose other than its desired audience? - For example, lets say I was a well-known local bicycle shop and sold my bikes all across the country within the UK. I then wanted to create a website to receive more business across the country, so the shop would more than likely make the website with the '.co.uk' domain, over the '.com' (or others). - This is because if a UK visitor was randomly browsing for 'bicycles' on Google, they may be put off and not even buy from the website if it was a '.com' because they could mistakenly assume I was not UK based, even if the content on the website made it clear it was a UK company. Then, same case if it was flipped and it was a bike shop in the US; you wouldn't really buy from a bike shop with a '.co.uk' domain if you live in the States and was looking to buy locally. - My point being, the extensions are sort of geographical or focus on a specific audience (like .gov or .edu), but in terms of I.T, do the extensions have any differences and advantages? 2.) When creating an online business, I know the main domain extensions to obtain are the .com and .co.uk, but HOW important are the other ones? Any you would consider essential in obtaining? 3.) How easy is it to transfer a website from one 'provider' to another? - Apologies if I'm not using the correct terms... my initial website will be set-up using one of my countries free / fairly cheap and simple services. So things like Wix, Squarespace (lol), etc. So far, I'm leading to one called Shopify as a lot of my competitors are using this 'provider'. Lets say I create a website using 'Wix' or one of those^ services, but after a year or so, I will very likely need a more advanced website and would have the money for it... but how easy would it be to transfer the content of the webpages (links, images, payment processes, basically everything you can think of on a webpage) to another provider/host service? Any tips for long-term planning in this area? 4.) Quite hard to answer without knowing all the details, but if I wanted to create a website from scratch and in my vision (Probably around 50 pages), I would need someone to create the website and then I would just need to host it. Any idea, roughly or even just a range on how much this would cost? - As an average. (Nothing too technical, will be for buying / selling, customer can create their own account and view order history, about us, home pages, reviews, FAQs, a 3 - 5 videos showing products etc. - It will not have ads.) + feel free to provide any additional tips or info if you desire. Thanks again to anyone that can help with this. I really am set on doing this and need all the help I can get.

Hey guys, I found some free online courses for intro computer science, game development, AI, web design, and app design. I'm currently working on the intro computer science course and would definitely recomend it. It is through harvard, and you do get a certificate for it, so for a teenager like me with only volunteer and retail experience id imagine it would be a resume booster as well. Just thought I should let you know, in case anyone wants to learn a new skill while in quarantine. https://www.edx.org/course/cs50s-introduction-to-computer-science they are free, but its 80 USD for a professional certificate, and you don't pay unless you decide to at the end of the course. (Not sponsored, just definitely recommend) EDIT: I just realised how much I sound like a pyramid scheme salesman

So I have a dilemma. I have to upgrade my video card and display. (look at my sig for video card, and my profile for the monitor, ugh...) My original thought was R9 Fury + Ultrawide (2560x1080). **IMPORTANT** I do web design work that requires me to have a lot of viewing space (to see lots of HTML + allowing me to code and see how it changes my webpage at the same time) Keeping this in mind, I need a lot of screen real estate to comfortably get my work done. I also game a good bit, I plan to get into doom, but other than that, I don't really play many AAA titles. (Rocket League, Warframe, War Thunder, Chivalry, etc.) Now I turned away from going ultrawide because of the high cost, to low pixel density ratio. I then saw that there are now some 4k display below 400 bucks, sooo I went for the R9 Fury + LGUD58P (4k IPS freesync display, 27 inch version) I could just downscale to 1440p for the games the Fury couldn't push at 4k. To get 60hz out of this monitor I needed an active adapter to HDMI 2.0, bringing the total cost of this upgrade to about 674 USD. Can anyone suggest anything different that would fit my circumstance? I'm talking ANY graphics card to monitor ratio. A few requirements for the monitor: IPS 27 inches (preferably over 24, like I said, screen real estate is gold) As for the graphics card, as long as I can make it work for gaming, I really don't care what it is. Budget is 675 USD or less if possible. Thanks for the help, I've found the members of this community can often bring something new to the table, so I'm all ears.

<div id="form_area"> <form> <h4>Current Project Task</h4> <textarea rows="4" name="" cols="50" id="add_current_task"> </textarea> <input type="submit" value="ADD PROJECT TASK" class="button_style"> <input type="reset" value="CLEAR" class="button_style"> </form> <br> <form> <h4>Member Name</h4> <input type="text" name="" value="" id="add_task_member"> <h4>Task Title</h4> <input type="text" name="" value="" id="add_task_title"> <h4>Task Description</h4> <input type="text" name="" value="" id="add_task_desc"> <input type="submit" value="Add Individual Task" class="button_style"> <input type="reset" value="Reset" class="button_style"> </form> </div> The above is my HTML code in which I want the the second form to have the elements with "button_style" to have their own style. #form_area form:nth-child(0n+3) .button_style, #form_area form:nth-child(0n+1) .button_style, #form_area_1 form:nth-child(1) .button_style{ border-radius: 10px 10px 10px 10px; -moz-border-radius: 10px 10px 10px 10px; -webkit-border-radius: 10px 10px 10px 10px; border: 0px solid #000000; background: #1e5799; /* Old browsers */ background: -moz-linear-gradient(top, #1e5799 0%, #2989d8 50%, #207cca 51%, #7db9e8 100%); /* FF3.6-15 */ background: -webkit-linear-gradient(top, #1e5799 0%,#2989d8 50%,#207cca 51%,#7db9e8 100%); /* Chrome10-25,Safari5.1-6 */ background: linear-gradient(to bottom, #1e5799 0%,#2989d8 50%,#207cca 51%,#7db9e8 100%); /* W3C, IE10+, FF16+, Chrome26+, Opera12+, Safari7+ */ filter: progid:DXImageTransform.Microsoft.gradient( startColorstr='#1e5799', endColorstr='#7db9e8',GradientType=0 ); /* IE6-9 */ color: #FFF; height: 30px; -webkit-box-shadow: 0px 0px 3px 0px rgba(0,0,0,0.5); -moz-box-shadow: 0px 0px 3px 0px rgba(0,0,0,0.5); box-shadow: 0px 0px 3px 0px rgba(0,0,0,0.5); } This works fine, and the buttons in the first form and the second form held within the containing div element have the appropriate styles. However, why is it that is have to do form:nth-child(0n+3) to select the second form element, rather than (0n+2) I am more curious than anything else.

I'm trying to design a mobile version of an existing website. The problem I'm running into is how to preview changes I've made. I'm using Dreamweaver, and it has a list of preset mobile device dimensions, but they don't seem to make any sense. For instance, the iPhone 6S Plus preset is 414x736, yet that's a 1080p device. So if I size an element to fit the way I want at 414x736, it's tiny when I actually load it up on a real device. Worse, my CSS link is <link href="mobileStyles.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" media="only screen and (max-device-width:799px)" /> .. and the confusing part is that works perfectly, even on the 1080p iPhone 6S Plus. So clearly there's something I don't understand about the screen resolutions of mobile devices, and it's making it very awkward to preview changes being made to my site as I work. How do more experienced web designers get around this issue, and is there a way I can use Dreamweaver's mobile device presets so that they actually mean anything?

Hello, I'm using Angular 4 for a project at school, I am able to set a background image in the general styles.css for index.html But I only need to display that image in a specific component view and I can't. This is what I do: fondo.jpg is on root of panel component folder Also tried using div as the element for the css file, body too, but It's supposed that body is actually on the main index.html What do you think is the solution? Thanks for your help!

Hi, can someone please give advice i7 8750h with graphic card 1050 ti or i5 8300h with graphic card1060 I'm a web designer and working in Photoshop CC 2019, I want to buy a laptop which can handle graphic design (not rendering, but web design), can please someone advise which one to buy, the specs of two laptops are the same (Asus TUF Gaming FX705GE, Asus TUF Gaming FX705GM), the only difference is processor and the graphic card. So, which one better deals with programs like Photoshop, Illustrator, Adobe XD? P.S. I have a desktop with 1050 to and AMD FX8320 and it works ok, but not fast enough sometime.

Hi everyone. I've just faced an issue I've never thought I'd be into. I had to deal with some web design stuff and I realized that the colours look different on any of my screens. I tried to calibrate them as far as I could, but it just makes things worse. I have some standart HP compaq panel as a daily driver, and also a TN macbook air. Should I just "validate" everything on macbook and give it up? But what if some users just won't be able to get right experience on this website? I could've just bought one of these pre-calibrated display, but, again, do I need to? Thanks.

Hey guys, I am a newbie in building PCs. This is the first time I chose parts for a build myself and I want to be sure it will work fine & without any problems. That's why I need your advice. This build is for a friend of mine. It is needed basically for web design, some light & easy content creation, the regular stuff (browsing, documents creation & managing, watching movies, listening music and etc., but NOT gaming) and is wanted to be a really stable, fast and secured machine for some more years from now on (I will probably not have the opportunity to change it after 2-4 years). It is intended to be upgraded in future through adding a second monitor, more RAM (about 16-30 GBs), a second SSD and may be an additional traditional HDD (as currently I have a limited budget) as a future education on cyber security and graphic design may be wished to be carried. This PC will be used for over 12 hours a day, 7 days a week. These are the chosen parts https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/user/marlene/saved/FknJVn except the monitor. It will be chosen in addition. If you have any recommendations for a monitor I will be happy if you share such. Budget for monitor is limited to 190$ (US) / 140 £. I have read a lot about each of the parts but I am afraid of missing anything. I will really appreciate any opinion, help, suggestions & recommendations for the build. Thank you in advance!

Long time apple user looking to move my desktop from my aging 2009 Mac Pro 4,1 to my first custom-built system. I do a lot of web work and digital content marketing, and the only program I cant seem to find a replacement for is Coda. Anyone know of a full package application that would work as a good replacement? Thanks in advance.

If you've ever taken the slightest bit of notice of my signature, it says that I'm a web developer. I definitely like to think that, that's for sure. For about three years now, since I was about 16, I have enjoyed designing websites. People can call it untrue programming, or just label it "coding" to blanket the ease of learning (especially with tools like Codecademy, which I used), but I like to believe there is a difference in being able to create a website and make it look nice. Now, with that in mind, I created many website designs over those three years that went from really, really, really shit - we're talking divs in a row on a page with text in - to what I have now, which is messing around with border properties over box-shadow to replicate 3D objects, creating my own site-specific version of bootstrap for my use alone to create (I call them "uniforms") to quickly create new pages (examples on BioTech Games' site). Now, I want to create something for myself - something that I have an ideal image of and want to express myself through - something to show potential employers, customers, and friends and family. A porfolio - something that certain developers can make either way too flashy (and in turn tacky) or just really, really, really shit - literally there to display text but nothing more. I'm not about either of those things; I want to create a beautiful piece of art for everyone to see. I'll be logging it through this thread as I go along so that people can recommend things, tell me better ways of doing things and more. Part One:

Hello everyone, For the last two months I'm planning to build a new budget workhorse and now I'm waiting for black friday to get some great deals. I'll answer the standard points first: 1. Budget & Location - Europe, budget between $500-600. Items here have newegg prices +10-20% more expensive, so you can keep that in mind. 2. Aim I mainly design web pages in Photoshop and do small graphic design tasks in Illustrator. My usual work is made from Chrome with lots of tabs open, Photoshop and Illustrator running non-stop and music in background. I hook up 2 monitors of 22inches and I'm planning on adding a third one. I don't do any 3D stuff, but I create lots of flyers, brochures, book covers + web stuff such as websites, banner ads etc. I'm an aspiring professional. 3. Monitors As I mentioned, I already have 2 monitors with a third one planned. 4. Peripherals I already have, no need for others. 5. Why am I upgrading I'm currently using a laptop with an i3-2330M, 8GB RAM 1333mhz, 60GB SSD + 500GB HDD, AMD Radeon 6490M graphics card. 6. What I have in plan & my problems: Planning to buy a desktop, but I honestly don't know what to choose between an i3 with a dedicated graphics card or an i5 and buy the graphics card later. I will also try to fit 16GB of RAM and two 120GB SSDs if money allows it and if I get a nice deal. Small chances, but I'm optimistic. If not, I will go with 8GB of RAM and an 120GB SSD + 1TB HDD. I don't have such a big need of an HDD mainly because I already have an external one where I keep my backups + other files, but having one SSD for OS, programs, scratch disk and another one for projects files sounds good to me. Can't do RAID though. So already bought this MSI motherboard and now I can't decide for a good processor that satisfies my needs. Please help, Thanks!

Hi guys, I always see people asking or get asked how to do a liquid layout when designing a website. The tutorials online are so complicated and have so many lines of code and it is really not needed. So here is how to do it very easily. Before I begin, here is what a liquid layout is: A liquid layout is a page design that will decrease or increase in size depending on the resolution of your screen. So you will not have loads of white space on each side of your page when developing a web page. Here it is: HTML <!DOCTYPE html><html><head> <link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="style.css"/></head><body> <div id="header">Header</div> <div id="sidebar">Sidebar</div> <div id="main_content">Main Content</div> <div id="footer">Footer</div></body></html> CSS #header{ background: silver;}#main_content{ border: 1px solid blue;}#sidebar{ border: 1px solid red; width: 20%; float: left;}#footer{ clear: both; background: silver;} It is that simple. You can also add additional sidebars using the same method.
