PROXMOX is a fantastic free and open Linux KVM hypervisor (with the option of a subscription - not required) but it's not without it's caveats. If when you installed PROXMOX you opted to create a ZFS rpool for the OS be that a mirror (RAID1), striped mirror (RAID10) or any combination of parity (RAID50, 51, 60, 61) you will find the installer creates more than a ZFS partition on each disk. It creates two additional partitions these being a 1MB BIOS boot partition and a 512MB EFI boot partition. nvme0n1 259:6 0 447.1G 0 disk ├─nvme0n1p1 259:7 0 1007K 0 part ├─nvme0n1p2 259:8 0 512M 0 part └─nvme0n1p3 259:9 0 118.7G 0 part Now these p1 & p2 partitions play an important role in allowing the hypervisor to boot. This is known as the bootloader. Without it the BIOS has no way of knowing where the OS is even though it's there in it's entirety on p3. This is where ZFS has the caveat. If you're like me and you've suffered a few disk failures you'll be familiar with this output: pool: rpool state: DEGRADED status: One or more devices could not be used because the label is missing or invalid. Sufficient replicas exist for the pool to continue functioning in a degraded state. action: Replace the device using 'zpool replace'. see: https://openzfs.github.io/openzfs-docs/msg/ZFS-8000-4J scan: scrub repaired 0B in 00:00:44 with 0 errors on Sun Jun 11 00:24:48 2023 config: NAME STATE READ WRITE CKSUM rpool DEGRADED 0 0 0 mirror-0 DEGRADED 0 0 0 nvme0n1p3 ONLINE 0 0 0 4849641676990992824 UNAVAIL 0 0 0 was /dev/nvme3n1p3 errors: No known data errors In this scenario one SSD in a mirror used to boot the server has failed. Now ZFS makes it pretty easy to restore this by just replacing the SSD and resilvering with the appropriate command but it will only restore partition #3. nvme0n1 259:6 0 447.1G 0 disk ├─nvme0n1p1 259:7 0 1007K 0 part ├─nvme0n1p2 259:8 0 512M 0 part └─nvme0n1p3 259:9 0 118.7G 0 part nvme3n1 259:6 0 447.1G 0 disk └─nvme0n1p3 259:9 0 118.7G 0 part At this stage ZFS is happy, it's hunky-dory, it's walking on sunshine...but what would happen if we were to lose nvme0n1? Well, everything would keep running fine. Until you shut the server down or rebooted. At that stage it doesn't matter that you had a ZFS backup of your boot drive ZFS didn't copy the bootloader. Your data is still there. It exists but you'd have to recover the bootloader partitions. To avoid having to do that what I want to demonstrate are the steps required to re-create and initialize the bootloader partitions with a real example. Before you resilver the array you'll want to run the commands: sgdisk /dev/nvme0n1 -R /dev/nvme3n1 sgdisk -G /dev/nvme3n1 Be careful to replicate any capitalized letters such as -R and -G as capitals can issue different operation to their lowercase counterparts. What this has done is taken a new disk from this: nvme3n1 259:0 0 447.1G 0 disk To this: nvme3n1 259:0 0 447.1G 0 disk ├─nvme3n1p1 259:1 0 1007K 0 part ├─nvme3n1p2 259:2 0 512M 0 part └─nvme3n1p3 259:13 0 118.7G 0 part Now note all it has done is created/copied the partitions. We still need to re-write the partition data over to the new disk. From here we can start resilvering our ZFS array: zpool replace -f rpool 4849641676990992824 /dev/nvme3n1p3 And check-in on how the progress is doing: pool: rpool state: DEGRADED status: One or more devices is currently being resilvered. The pool will continue to function, possibly in a degraded state. action: Wait for the resilver to complete. scan: resilver in progress since Sat Oct 14 17:31:37 2023 37.3G scanned at 764M/s, 24.5G issued at 502M/s, 37.3G total 24.7G resilvered, 65.73% done, 00:00:26 to go config: NAME STATE READ WRITE CKSUM rpool DEGRADED 0 0 0 mirror-0 DEGRADED 0 0 0 nvme0n1p3 ONLINE 0 0 0 replacing-1 DEGRADED 0 0 0 4849641676990992824 UNAVAIL 0 0 0 was /dev/nvme3n1p3/old nvme3n1p3 ONLINE 0 0 0 (resilvering) errors: No known data errors Once this completes that is p3 taken care of but p1 & p2 still aren't configured. To do that we first need to know weather PROXMOX is being booted with GRUB or SYSTEMD-BOOT. The easiest way to find out for sure is to know which boot menu you see when the server is turned on. One of these two screens should look familiar to you: If you see the blue screen then your server boots using GRUB. If you see a black screen then your server boots using SYSTEMD-BOOT. You may also check from the OS without rebooting using: efibootmgr -v This will return a lot of information but you should see a line resembling one of the following: Boot0005* proxmox [...] File(\EFI\proxmox\grubx64.efi) Boot0006* Linux Boot Manager [...] File(\EFI\systemd\systemd-bootx64.efi) These should be self explanatory. If you see GRUB you are using GRUB. If you see SYSTEMD you're using SYSTEMD. From here you will use the corresponding command to configure your bootloader: GRUB: grub-install /dev/nvme3n1 SYSTEMD: proxmox-boot-tool format /dev/nvme3n1p2 proxmox-boot-tool init /dev/nvme3n1p2 And you're done. If you are so inclined as to test if this actually worked you can shutdown the server and remove the healthy drive you copied the boot data from. Turn the server on and see if it boots from the new drive you just formatted and copied all the system data to. If everything went well the server should boot as normal. I hope this helped.

Folks I goofed up. Was moving my current rig into a new case that would fit the 7900xtx i bought myself for my birthday. Consiquently i upgraded my psu to a Coursair RM1000e fully modular psu. The smart move i did was just move the mobo and gpu to the new case with the new psu, test boot to make sure all was good then install the 7900. long story short no boot on the test boot. No psu fan spin, no debug leds on mobo, no visible smoke or sizzling noise. Decided to swap new psu for old and discovered i put the Cpu 8pin into the (old)Gpu and one of the 6+2 pcie cables to the cpu socket. Pretty sure the old setup is toast. Plan going forward take m.2 from old mobo put in m.2 to usb adapter and check if it is still good. if so build new 5950X system once last of the parts arrive Wednsday. Was not expecting to dip into savings but oh well. Boot in safemode since going from a Asus Tuff Gaming to an MSI mobo. Copy last of the files off that m.2 then burn install media for proxmox and win 10. then use that m.2 as a secondary to the new one incase it decides to crap out. Build new vm's for win 10, Linux, and Android-X86. Given the oopsie i just did and the plan i have does anyone see any holes in that plan?

I have messed up and need som advice! I have an old WD My Cloud Duo with 2x3 TB drives in RAID 1. In April me and my family went on a longer trip and I removed the drives and hid them around the house in case of a break in. Now, I knew exactly where one drive was but the second one I have no idea where it is! I have search around the house and asked various people if I gave it to them, but no luck. I know I'm stupid, alright!? Question 1: I have an adaptor from SATA to USB so I could try to access the files on the drive (to back them up or whatever) but I have not dared to. Is it safe to do that or will I ruin something with the RAID or the files? Question 2: Can I buy whatever 3 TB drive and put it in the NAS to rebuild the RAID or does it have to be the exact same one? It's an older drive so I can only find better ones. Question 3: If I put in the one original drive I have and a new 3TB one, will the RAID reboult itself automagically or do I need to do something? I'm afraid of messing things up since these drives contain all family photos and important documents... Thanks for your help!

Hey, earlier today I deleted a folder containing 200GB+ of files that ideally I would quite like to keep. I was deleting another file, and did not realise this other folder was selected. Because of its size it did not go into the recycle bin, and due to it being on an SSD it deleted very quickly before I had a chance to react. I have used various free file recovery apps, and decided to buy OnTrack EasyRecovery. It has been able to recover quite a lot of the files, some of which even have metadata (for example, mp3 files having artists etc.) and whilst there are a few 0 Bytes files, most of them seem to have their original file size back. The issue is, none of these files let me open them. For example, I'll open a PSD in Photoshop and it thinks its not a photoshop compatible file, or an mp4 in VLC etc. I'm assuming the files are corrupted somehow, so does anyone know how to fix them? Any suggestions would be appreciated NOTE: I still have the original drive, and have not saved, deleted or done anything to any other files on the drive to stop them from being overwritten.

Recently had a WD My Passport 4TB HDD fail. Most of the data are available online that I can redownload instead of paying a fortune for data recovery. Is there a way the File tree of that HDD or the Names of the folders can be recovered? Does wondows store that kind of information or something like that?

I'm trying to create a USB bootable W10 v1703 using only the Recovery portion of the iso file. I don't need it to install Windows, only need it for troubleshooting Windows. I can't remember if the Recovery image is in the install.wim or boot.wim or maybe somewhere else. Anyhow, is this possible, and will it decrease the size of the iso? I know removing other OS versions from install.wim does not significantly decrease the size because they all share common files within the install.wim. But since I only need the Recovery image and not any of the other OSs, I'm hoping this will allow a much smaller iso.

I've had this issue for awhile now like 3 months, I've just ignored it since I can put my pc to sleep and deal with it quickly when I restart for updates. My drives used to be a 500gb ssd and 2tb hdd, around christmas I removed the HDD, copied the data from the ssd onto a new samsung 2tb ssd, and reformatted the 500gb ssd and use it only for games since the health is at around 83%, this issue didnt happen until around a few weeks after. When I boot up my pc, this is the first screen I'm met with, I press Esc, then will bring me to another screen where I press enter, the computer restarts, sometimes does a disk check and sometimes doesnt, then it boots up and works like normal, I tried googling the issue but couldn't quite find anything that had both the 0xc0000225 code and winload.efi, I tried going to reset my pc to reinstall windows but I don't have a USB stick, it broke awhile ago Specs: 3700x, ASRock velocita B550, bios P2.20, 16gb ram ddr4 3200 cl14 OS: Windows 10 home 10.0.19045 Build 19045

Soo... I did a goof. I forgot to backup my sd card and it was formatted and partitioned. I tried using Recuva and i was able to pull some files off the sd card but I'm still missing a couple of audio files. I also attempted using Testdisk but was unable to get it to work properly. More info about the SD card here: Was run on an audio recorder, formatted in fat32, and I'm attempting to recover .wav files

TLDR: I have a nas and I can see the space the old partition takes up, but I can't see in in the file system. Backstory how I got here. I have a qnap ts-251. When I set things up a long time ago, instead of paying for a ddns I put the whole thing on dmz. As you can imagine there were plenty of bots trying to brute force their way in. I knew this would happen, I deactivated the default admin account, and all other accounts had a really long password, 2f authentication and if you failed to log in 5 times in a row your ip would be blacklisted. It worked fine for a year, but in that time about 10k log-in failure logs were recorded so I wanted to do something about it. I tweaked the setting and in my infinite wisdom managed to block ANY and ALL traffic. I'm talking not even when directly connecting to it with an ethernet cable. After that I put it on ice because I had exams to worry about. About a month later I tried to reboot it and I was met with a prompt to factory reset it, I was planning to do that anyway, so I went along. It asked me what version of firmware was on it. This is where I think I made my mistake because I thought it asked me what version I would like to install on it now and selected the most recent one. I had two options, do a clean install and wipe everything or do not touch the data partition. I have most of the data saved in offline storage, but it is close to 6Tb, and it is with my parents on the other side of the country. Therefore, I chose the latter option. The install looked like it went fine but after it was done, I went to check it in the file system and there was nothing from the old partition, only the root folder. I thought I may be pressed the wrong button or something, but then went to check the resource monitor and I can see the disk is the same amount full as before. This was the point I realised it is probably over my head. I'm not sure what to do and I'm afraid to make another mistake. There are some data I don’t have in offline storage and would be a pain to get back.

My three options are: 1) Macrium Reflect Home version (Free) 2) DiskGenius 3) Rescuezilla (not sure i wanna use this) I have a 256 GB SSD with the main windows' data partition on it taking up all its space and the boot partition is on my HDD for some odd reason, i want a flawless migration, I'll have backups but still and i wanna shift the boot partition on the HDD to the new 1 TB SSD. Additional details: I am using Windows 10 and intend to continue doing so

Hey, So I had a power outage, and after that, my SSD is not getting recognized properly by windows. I was able to recover my data through a recovery software, then I tried a few drive partitioning softwares and all can see my folders and files. This makes me think there could be a way of getting the drive to be recognized normally by windows again without formatting it. Is this true, is there a way of doing that? It's a samsung 870 Evo 2TB Cheers and thanks in advance. :)

I was playing some minecraft on my computer when suddenly everything stopped responding and it crashed. I waited a few minutes but it wasnt a blue screen or anything else so I pressed the power button and shut the pc down. When I started up my pc again It gave me a blue screen which reads out : "Recovery Your PC/Device needs to be repaired. The application or operating system couldn't be loaded because a required file is missing or contains errors. File: \WINDOWS\System 32\winload.exe Error code 0xc000000e You'll need to use a recovery tools if you don't have any installation media (like disc or USB device), contact your PC administrator or PC/Device manufacturer. Press enter to try again. Press f8 for Start-up Settings." I truly believe you guys can help me since I picked the parts for my pc with your help and this forum has also helped my get over the problems I had when I was bulding the pc.. Pressing f8 or enter just ends up with the screen turning black for a split second then this page comes up again. I tried turning it on and off , shut it off and the power and gave it 10 minutes but that didnt work either. I have been using this computer for about two years now and Ive encountered blue screen crashes with the code Memory_Management but none such as this. I generally use the PC for School and Games so I wasnt doing anything out of the ordinary either. I have really important files in both drives so it would be great if I could recover the pc with both of them intact. My specs are Asrock B450m pro4, Ryzen 5 2600, Rx 570, 8Gbs of ddr4 2666mhz, 250 Gb sandisk ssd, 1Tb barracuda hard disk and be quiet system power 9 500w. Any help is appreciated and If you have any questions feel free to ask.

I'd start from the beginning, so i have a 80GB of WD HDD and it contains bunch of important data which i compressed it into RAR format (big size). I connect it using single HDD Dock from ORICO to my laptop. Everything works fine, until i disconnected it and re-connect it again and all of a sudden, the file system becomes RAW and when i try to access it, an error message pop up saying " I: is not accessible". I freaked out, but i manage to keep my composure and look for a solution. 1. I did CHKDSK /f /r command but it didn't work because my laptop won't scan the disk even on-reboot. Tried it manually via right click -> properties on the partition but it says it can't access/read the drive 2. So i tried 3rd party software which is MiniTool partition wizard, on their website it says if the hard drive is detected as "NTFS" but is not accessible, then i should use the "check file system" feature (pic below) in which i did and the process went fine with no error, and when i try to look the drive on the explorer, the capacity and free-space read correctly as it used to be, EXCEPT when i try to access it, it says access denied. So i did the administration thingy via security option and i still get the same error. and after that, the caacity and free-space change from 1GB LEFT to 73.7GB LEFT. CONTINUE~ 3. I tried the partition recovery feature but it didn't detect any deleted/previous partition. 4. Then i use the data recovery option, it did detect some of the files but as RAW files, and when its done, it only detect 2 RAR files (small size) while it should be detect 10+ (BIG Sized) RAR files. Strangely, it detect a bunch of BIG sized (1 - 3.5GB+) SWF files which is strange because i don't have any SWF files. So i did my research and turns out, MiniTool got a bad reputation among expert, it can't read the files and some suggest that those SWF files are just garbage tho idk what they mean by that. 5. I did more research and they said that i should use R-STUDIO Data Recovery software and i DID. But, it kinda give the same results which is bunch of RAW files, but it did detected more RAR and ZIP files although its not enough and i haven't try to recover it yet cuz the Recovery status says "UNDERTERMINED" So, please guys, those data are very important to me, its a complication of old videos and pictures of my parents from the day they met, me and the most important person in my life which is my little sister (she's 10 now) I know, i am stupid, i should have upload them to the CLOUD but i just..i have no excuse.. i am so frustrated right now. Please i am willing to pay but, i don't have that much money right now since i just got an accident 6 month ago, broke my femur and i am financially struggling rn. Please, anyone? (T^T)

Ok so I made this guide "h t t p s : / / w w w . r e d d i t . c o m /r/Dell/comments/kpaouc/g7_15_7590_uefi_unlock_undervolting_and_remove/" and after that I tried to mess around using grub to see if I could change xmp settings. everything was working until I accidently set the ram speed to 0x80 (128) instead of 0xC80 (3200). as of now its bricked with no way for me to flash anything to it using usb. I have a SOIC16 and I pulled the bios from the chip no problem. Bin files "h t t p s : / / d r i v e . g o o g l e . c o m /drive/folders/1o6JUnA4F3hk_MSbPdEwRt3_mzIrdZcLf?usp=sharing", I also have all the extracted files and the exe from the dell bios I am using "h t t p s : / / d r i v e . g o o g l e . c o m /drive/folders/1LFKL9dqLOIqaYr8uKNKP4TzcF_6lIsph?usp=sharing". What I am looking for is a anything to get it to boot as now it gets stuck flashing at me that it has no ram. Hell what would be great is a bios dump that I can flash over. Please any help would be loved, I cant do my job without this pc. I am willing to pay $20 to anyone who gets my pc working and $50 if they can do it while also unlocking hidden features in the bios or really just enabling xmp. (service tag is 4R73JX2) edit managed to flash the bios with a ic programer. all is working now, here is the file I used! https://drive.google.com/file/d/1_8gFnfmKP513v8O5kLUtdAGpVi1WPUti/view?usp=sharing

I have a Google Pixel 2 that's stuck in a bootloop. I've tried going into recovery mode to reboot the system but with no luck. When the phone is restarting, it just shows the G logo with an endless loading bar (not a progress bar), as in the picture. I haven't found if other people have recently encountered this issue or if there are other options I can try to startup the phone. In this case, factory resetting the device would not be an option as I'd like to keep the data from the phone. I also know this might be a longshot, but if there would be a way to just recover the data on the phone from a computer, that would be great.

I was deleting Nvidia Shadowplay recordings using shift+del. About half a day later I noticed that I deleted some important files on accident. I ran Windows file recovery in "extensive" mode following this tutorial, specifying the correct folder and .mp4 file type. I have attached the recovery log, but I doubt it is of much use. The result was 4 files, as expected. The filesizes also match, there are two mutiple hour recordings both about 30 gigs in size and two shorter ones, under a gig. Both large files and one small are completely unplayable in VLC, while the remaining file plays, but has no sound (i am not actully sure if it had any sound before, as it had been deleted considerable time ago) After backing everything up, I have tried using Handbrake with one of the completely broken files and gotten the error log that is attached. Clicking "Properties" shows nothing but the filename. Is there any hope of recovering the lost files (or at least the audio track, as that is the important bit) at all, or they irreversably corrupted? Id like to know if someone has managed to get the files out of an broken android phone. I assume you would need to transplant the memory chip onto a donor board, and try to maybe access files over the new board/phone. My Question is: Are the files on Android phones encrypted, as it is on iphones ? If you were to have an memory chip reader like this, is it just plug and play ?

Sorry for long post, but i try to be specific enought, i had a system with the specs: CPU: i7-4790k MB: Asus Z97-A GPU: EVGA GTX 1070 SC RAM: 16 GB kingston DDR3 PSU: 660W Seasonic 80+platinum STORAGE (all ssd): 128 GB Kingston SATA 250 GB Samsung 850 PRO SATA (Windows) 250GB Samsung 950 pro NVME 1TB Crucial MX300 This system worked perfectly for years, but last sunday it went into recovery mode when i started the system. I was not able to get into windows no matter what i tried. My CPU was due for upgrade, so i thought that **** it, and built a new system with the following specs: CPU: i7-12700K MB: Asus Z690-P D4 GPU: EVGA GTX 1070 SC (from old system) RAM: 32 GB Corsair DDR4 PSU: 660W Seasonic 80+platinum (from old system) STORAGE: two 1 TB samsung 980 PRO NVME I was trying to install Windows 11 to the new system, with the following setup: All peripherals (keyboard, mouse, audio interface and usb-headphones) and screens connected. My screens are Dell U2715H (primary) and Dell P2219H (secondary). The displays are connected with display port cables, and daisy chained such that the primary display is first in the chain. During the installation, the screen went suddenly black and the system restarted into recovery mode. this happended around the time when the install asks for windows user, keyboard things and such. I tried 3 times, always with the same result. Then i tried to install Windows 10, same thing. Then i tried to install Windows 10 with minimal setup, so i disconnected the other SSD and the GPU, and used the integraded graphics of the CPU. I also only had the keyboad and mouse connected to USB ports. This time the installation was succesfull, so i thought okay, lets try same with Windows 11, and it worked. Then attached the SSD and GPU, everythign worked fine, until i installed the latest nvidia drivers. After installing the drivers, it only took a while until the screen went black, and into recovery mode. I rebooted the system, and was able to log into windows normally, but in under one minute, the screen went black again, and into recovery. It tried this like 5 times with the same results. I ran the windows ram memcheck, there were no errors. I was able to get back into windows by disconencting the GPU, and using the integradted graphics again. I removed the nvidia drivers, connected the GPU back, and then installed older drivers (497.09), after this the system ran fine, and i played games for like 5 hours with no issues. I also ran prime95 for 10 minutes, so i don't think its a power issue. Then today when i turned the system on, it went straight into recovery mode, this was very frustrating. What i noticed was that the secondary display was off, i turned it on, rebooted, and then windows started normally. This behaviour never happended with the old system. This whole thing seems unstable and unpredictable, any suggestions or comments regarding this? In hindsight, i should have tried the old system with the integrated graphics, but the PSU is already in the new system, so...

I have a Windows 10 system, where i simply cannot get past the recovery screen, only options are to eihter press enter or F8, both of which result in nothing. There is only one drive (C) in that system. I have important files in the user folder in that drive that i want to save. Can i plug that drive into my other (Windows 11) computer? My concern is that as it has Windows 10 installed in it, it might cause problems, as then there are two drives with different versions of windows installed in the same system.

One of the "recovery" partitions is at the end of the disk. How did this happen? It's a UEFI installation, I've just upgraded to Windows 11 through Windows Update.

Hey LTT, i badly need help because my PC on which most of my work is, has started malfunctioning since earlier today ( 22nd Feb 2022, what a horrible day ! ) Now before we move on to anything else, i just wanted to tell that i had regularly backed up my windows on a portable HDD ( which i can still browse on another laptop ) but when i try to boot from it, it give a blue screen with Inaccessible Boot Device stop code and as a result i cannot boot from my backup , which makes for a very precarious situation as i risk losing a great deal of work if the PC is not recovered ! It was literally my last chance to boot seamlessly but it seems that windows is behaving rather strangely .. So when i started my PC today, i saw that it was taking awfully long to boot ( it usually booted in a minute ) and then i saw that there was a black screen and the white dots were spinning for a long time but there was no progress I am really anxious as to what to do and i 100 % need my PC to work at all costs so, i just need to know what are my chances of getting back my system without losing data ( i am really traumatized since i had kept backups which are useless now ). i tried looking through the many guides of resolving this error but to no avail. LTT is quite literally my last and final hope before i am forced to nuke my system with a fresh re-install, which will be very painful since there was a lot of stuff installed and i had hoped to keep my data intact.. Any help anyone can provide, i will be really grateful to them ! PC Specs : Ryzen 1500x RX 580 8 GB sapphire nitro 12 GB ram 1 tb WD green HDD Corsair TX 550 M Gold PSU i am not going to sleep particularly well today, but i do hope a resolution can be found .. EDIT : i tried booting to safe mode ( all 3 variants of safe mode ) but it does not work . It simply stays stuck on a black screen and NEVER boots ! EDIT 2 : I can clearly SEE MY MOUSE CURSOR on the black screen, but ctrl+alt+del does not work and neither do any other shortcuts ! EDIT 3 : This is very, very strange but i had another hard drive with a REALLY OLD backup - months ago probably. It's giving the EXACT same black screen problem ! I don't know what to do, can anyone help me ?
