Currently on my laptop. Ill just jump right in on whats going on. Last night I installed Team Viewer on my PC and Laptop so I could essentially use my PC while laying in bed and winding down. Woke up a few hours ago and starting working on my PC. It randomly hard froze and became completely unresponsive. This isnt too uncommon. Im basically pushing it beyond its capabilities (Working on a new build). I know hard powering off isnt good for computers, but Im not sold on that being the issue. I use Google Chrome I visit a LOT of sites both for fun, interest, and/or work I have LOTS of extensions I use and keep open a lot of tabs I try to routine delete my cache & cookies I have a subscription to Restoro that I use pretty regularly I do not download torrents I do not stream movies/shows I recently deleted CCleaner I use Windows Defender as my anti-virus & I do have the base Kaspersky Anti Virus as well. Which Im questioning now. Just for the fact of whats going on over there and how 90% of the world has more or less turned their backs on Russia. RESTORO is flagging something with Kaspersky, but I just assumed it was a False Positive....? After hard freezing this morning, I powered it off and back on. My profile name and everything came up, but I noticed it was a different background image than it has been for the last 2+ months. I got the "We can't sign into your account" and was signed into a TEMP profile. I entered the CMD Prompt on the TEMP Proile "regedit" and then went to "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList" I deleted my Temp Profile Folder and then deleted the .bak extension from my actual real folder. After restarting the PC this is where a lot of people seemed to have their issues fixed. I thought it worked for me, but it ultimately made another TEMP Profile. Thats currently where Im at. I ran a System Scan with Windows Defender, with nothing detected. Im currently System Scanning via 'RESTORO'. Then I will reboot and see if anything it addressed ending up being the issue. Not trying to leave out any relevant information, but Im sure there is LOTS of info you guys need that I havent provided. Just tell me what info to get or screenshot and Ill add them to the post

At this year's Security Analyst Summit in St Maarten, Kaspersky researcher Igor Soumenkov has presented how hackers are using a combination of low tech and high tech techniques to empty out ATMs in Europe and Russia. According to the article at Bleeping Computer, these attacks first started last year, when several banks discovered empty ATMs with a small hole drilled into the side. From the article, According to this article, this 10-pin header actually connected straight to the main bus that interconnects all the other ATM components. The rig to connect to the ATM only cost about $15 in off the shelf parts and a laptop to send commands to the ATM, at which point, it would dispense it's cash. At this same conference Kaspersky also: The article on ATMitch presents : Below is a flow chart from Bleeping Computers showing how the ATMitch system works: The genius part of this that makes it hard to deal with is that the malware self deletes once the attack ends, fairly much erasing the evidence. According to the article, this was discoverd: I would expect several banks to begin doing some retrofitting of their systems hardware and software in the near future to try and do away with these vulnerabilities. https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/news/security/hackers-empty-atms-by-drilling-one-small-hole/ https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/news/security/self-deleting-malware-makes-atms-spit-out-cash/

Sources: Mashable, Kaspersky [here and here] This is why it's hard to judge whether which side is telling the truth. All the US media says is that anonymous individuals especially unnamed Israeli hackers have witnessed Russian hackers using Kaspersky AV to data mine the US government. At the same time, Kaspersky only did an internal audit of their databases although they promised next year they will become more transparent and even have their source code inspected. Now, I'm reserving judgement until third parties are able to inspect both the source code and their databases but if what Kaspersky lab is saying is true, it's embarrassing for the NSA. First of all, how stupid would it be for an employee to take home classified files for cyberespionage and later run a pirated Microsoft Office? It makes me wonder how much NSA is paying its employees that they'll cheap out and resort to software piracy which they know is illegal and dangerous. How stupid for the NSA employee to use a pirated software to begin with? If proven true by third parties, it only shows that using counterfeit/pirated software is dangerous even if you have nothing to hide on your computer since it can be used as a remote malware factory and distribution and even in this forum, so many new members are asking questions like "How to get Office for free?" or "How to get a Windows 10 license for free?" I think at the moment there has been a hearing about Kaspersky but no details have been release publicly at the moment. Speaking of transparency, they promised next year that they'll have more third parties inspect their source code and databases and increase their bug bounty rewards up to $100,000 per vulnerability. https://www.kaspersky.com/blog/transparency-initiative/19870/ It makes me question my career choice as being an ethical, white hat hacker seems to be very lucrative. Edit: Here's the full video of the hearing assessing Kaspersky Lab. I haven't watched the video myself at the time I added the video. Here's an interesting debate from Fortune:

US government suspects that Kaspersky Lab is having ties to the Russian government cnet Looks like reality, because when you have 2 ways: or you working with government or you working against it, usually it's only one right choice here I was using Kaspersky, but now only Windows Defender. Looks like it may be banned in the US soon.

US is concerned about Kaspersky products because the founder Eugene Kaspersky, was trained in the KGB, who worked as a Soviet intelligence officer in the Red Army. Looks like Washington DC needs a lot of aluminum! https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/news/government/senate-gets-ready-to-ban-kaspersky-products-as-fbi-interviews-companys-us-employees/

Kaspersky , a well known multinational cyber-security and anti-virus software provider is celebrating it's 20th Birthday , it was announced on this occasion that there will be a free basic Kaspersky Anti-Virus version being released to the public, The Software manufacturer hasn't had offered a free version of it's top tier software's except for minor free tools & basic free trials which runs it's course around over a month max . Their AV solutions have been on the very best AV choice list in terms of detection & stable program that is light weight & ease of use. General Software reviewers gave the Kaspersky AV solution 4 - 5 star ratings in majority of their reviews A reminder this is a basic version of the software , meaning you'll get the same time signature updates , Quarantine , Browsing protection , Email scan & the self protection feature to keep the software itself safe from attacks , Hey, it's better than Windows defender . For a lot more premium feature you do need to pay , like parental control, Secure Pay, Virtual KB/Anti-Keylogger , VPN, Customer support , The software release is set to be done periodically , so depending on the region You might have to wait to get your hands on the free version of the software , The first wave of free version release covers US, Russia,Canada,Sweden,China & a few other countries & rest of them will be released slowly . Countries like India, Hong Kong, Middle East, Africa, Turkey and Latin America will have to wait till September to get their hands on the software , Kaspersky?? Isn't that the Russian company? Kaspersky recently made a slight headlines as US Congress made a move to blanket ban the Kaspersky products from the PC used by government systems because of feared Manufacturer is based on Russia & might be succumbed to eaves drop from Russian political official influence. The company responded by saying it will provide it's source code directly to the concerned officials to clear up any kind of mistrust issues , Recently few of the US engineers who were working for the company was questioned by the FBI on this topic . But long story short , nothing came up . " As a private company, Kaspersky Lab has no ties to any government, and the company has never helped, nor will help, any government in the world with its cyberespionage efforts - KS Labs representative " I think it's a pretty decent move from the company , Lots of free AV solutions out there that offer free solutions , but with this amount of reliable detection & protection offered as free is a pretty good deal , hope they don't do forced registration to run a free version. What are your thoughts on this? POst your thoughts & comments down beloooooooooooooooow Source: https://eugene.kaspersky.com/2017/07/25/kl-av-for-free-secure-the-whole-world-will-be/ Free Version Link : https://www.kaspersky.com/free-antivirus

Anonymous Officials talked to Cyberscoop of the confrontations received from Moscow intelligence towards US intelligence companies for poking into Kaspersky capabilities as the tool itself was marketed to be capable as a spy tool to US intelligence agencies. This sales pitch caught the FBI's attention and as all things with backdoors can leave information to be open to other intelligence agencies or malicious actors. With the insisting nature of the Moscow Intelligence agency, FSB, US intelligence stance of Kaspersky is clear that the Anti-virus firm may have a one way relationship of being an intelligence asset for the agency without Kaspersky knowing. This pushed the FBI to urge US industries to cut ties with the firm, being unsuccessful in some, presented it's privately sourced and open intelligence to congress. Similar to how Google was operating without knowing that the NSA had been snooping on their internal traffic during the NSA glory days, this does not mean Kaspersky actively allows this to happen. The result of this unconfirmed news can lead to the fact that large information companies are at the mercy of their own government intelligence agencies. As an average consumer, this may not affect you to keep using their product, as a corporate entity, you will have to factor in the government agency that has government jurisdiction because of the software's origin. Summary apple released parental controls in ios 12. Kaspersky had an app that was part of their security plan and had parental controls, so apple has basically blocked kaspersky and by extension any parental control app from updating their app because ios already provides those features, and "privacy". this is a investigation going on by Russian competition watchdog FAS ( Federal Antimonopoly Service). this is what kaspersky said in their blog: My thoughts so if it wasn't enough for epic games fortnite, Hey mail, cloud gaming services, and now this to prove apple is violating antitrust laws and having monopolistic behavior, i dont know what is. this isn't the first time, every time apple sees a potential in 3rd party app, they provide their own service, change the TOS and kick the 3rd party off app store. and just remember this after tim apple just lied in front of the US congressional hearing. i hope all these cases lead to apple getting a big back hand slap, and force them to have multiple app stores and stop this monopolistic behavior. at least one can hope. - btw if you have additional sources tell me to add it here for everyone if not stop spreading fake news here. thanks. and no kaspersky is not from russia anymore its switzerland so just stop the russian software argument. So I was wondering what everyone's opinions are on the top antivirus this year? I know Windows Defender is pretty good on Windows 10 (I'm running Windows 8.1 atm) although the UI sucks imo, Kaspersky is supposed to be good but they've been under fire for having shady monitoring practices (whether these are true or not I'm not sure) and all google searches state that Bit Defender is the top one atm, but I found that it caused my games to crash more often than not. I've been looking at AVG, the UI looks clean and it's been around for a long time. But anyway, what do you guys use and which ones would you recommend?

Hey guys, since my Norton antivirus subscription just expired, I looked for other antivirus programmes, as I heard, that Norton has some severe malware detection problems. Therefore I decided to switch my "security provider", and KasperskyLabs and Bitdefender were the first ones, that came into my mind. As I can't decide which one to take, I decided to ask you guys for a solution. Thank you very much in advance!

According to Reuters, Russian security firm Kaspersky Lab created fake malware in order to harm its competition. These allegations come from two former employees who say that the co-founder Eugene Kaspersky gave orders to do so in some cases. Unsurprisingly, the security firm has denied these allegations in a statement to Reuters: According to Microsoft and AVG, unknown parties have tried to induce false positives over the last few years but did not comment on this news surrounding Kaspersky. As a user of the software, I am uncertain how to feel about this. Executives would have had to have had the foresight that such information could have surfaced if they were to do this. I suppose when competition and money are involved, people will do almost anything to gain an edge. I hope these allegations are untrue. Kaspersky is actually really good in my experience. I will move on to something else if necessary, but I am unsure how to take this news. Thoughts? EDIT: You can find Eugene's response here: https://eugene.kaspersky.com/2015/08/14/the-abracadabra-of-anonymous-sources/

Kaspersky Lab has apparently been hacked. The breach was first detected in early spring. Kaspersky says that the attackers accessed files but the files were not critical. The malware does not write to any disk, but rather the computer's memory. The hack consisted of 3 previously unknown techniques and is one of the most sophisticated hacks ever. I am personally curious as to the source of attack. The funding for such an attack must have been incredible. I use Kaspersky internet security on my laptop and I also run a freenas server on my network. This is a problem because I am unable to access my freenas server while Kaspersky's firewall is in place. As seen in the picture below... And when I turn the firewall off... So how do I make an exception for my freenas server to get through the firewall. I've looked and can't seem to find a place to allow its ip address through. Is there another way to do this? (I do want to keep using Kaspersky's firewall)

Hey guys and gals, I've installed Kaspersky Total Securtiy on a fresh install of Windows 8.1 Pro and it works except for 1 thing. The icon is grey and says "Protection is disabled" because "In safe mode, the functionality of Kaspersky Total Security is limited. Some of the protection components are disabled." It tells me to reboot my computer but I've done that multiple times to no avail. I'm not in safe mode and Kaspersky isn't either. In the settings menu, everything I chose to enable is enabled with no problem. Any ideas?

When I laucnh the Kaspersky Internet Security, it loads and it just exits. When you have Kaspesky, you right click on a file, you have an option to scan for viruses. My option is gray and I cannot click on it. I activated Kaspersky more or less 11 months ago. I tried to run it as administrator, but it didnt work.

Hi All, Im using Bitdefender antivirus since about 4 years now, my licence is due to expire in 30 days, I have an 1 year licence of kaspersky which i received with my new MoBo, didn't activate it yet but i know it's Kaspersky Antivirus (No firewall included etc), plus it's the 2013 edition and it's not eligible for the free upgrade to KA 2014. Using Kaspersky will force me to go with a free firewall (Like Zone Alarm) which is not that good (At least that's what i heard) and buying a firewall makes no sense as being an old Bitdefender Customer i have discounts with their Bitdefender suite (I can buy a licence = 1 year, 3 computers for about 30e). Before i go out spending any money I would like to know which antivirus do you folks use and find the best for your use (Price/Quality)?
