Hello, I have an Asus B85M-G and I wanted to improve computers storage and read/write speed. To do this I installed a Crucial Nvme ssd using a m.2 to PCIe x 1 adaptor. I used AOMEI to clone my OS to the new Nvme, but even though I see it in my file explorer I do not see it in my UEFI/bios as a bootable drive. Does anyone have good instructions on how to get my Nvme ssd to show up as a bootable drive? There are only a couple of instructions online, but they are not great and the info is not coming from reputable sources. Linus has talked about it in some videos 5-6 years ago, but at the time there wasn't a great solution. I hope he sees this and decides to make a video on how to properly set up a bootable Nvme ssd that's plugged into a PCIe Slot.

I'm trying to create a USB bootable W10 v1703 using only the Recovery portion of the iso file. I don't need it to install Windows, only need it for troubleshooting Windows. I can't remember if the Recovery image is in the install.wim or boot.wim or maybe somewhere else. Anyhow, is this possible, and will it decrease the size of the iso? I know removing other OS versions from install.wim does not significantly decrease the size because they all share common files within the install.wim. But since I only need the Recovery image and not any of the other OSs, I'm hoping this will allow a much smaller iso.

Trying to upcycle some m.2 SATA drives that were going to be disposed. I am running an older system. my mobo is dx58so and cpu is w3690. I have an empty PCIe 2.0 slot and I was wondering if I could raid 4 of the m.2 SATA drives on a card plugged into the PCIe 2.0 slot as a boot drive. (it has to be cheap, I am not running this retro build because I am a hipster). If it matters I have a GTX 1080 plugged into my other PCIe 2.0 slot. Not sure if it matters, but my SATA ports only run 2.0. My wife has a machine with DDR4 and NVME and I would really like to see the snappiness on my machine. (I am hoping it is not all from the DDR4). Anyone have any recommendations for a cheap (50 bucks or lower, used is an option) bootable PCIe card that can raid 0 4 m.2 SATA drives for a noticeable performance boost over SATA 2.0? (or have I seen too many Linus videos achieving crazy things?)

Hi, Installing windows on ssd and using it without updating drivers it works fine but as soon as my drivers update and now I have found out that installing SATA AHCI drivers lead to no bootable devices detected, changed bios setting to ahci but it didn't help it. Avoiding specific driver in runs fine.

Ok I can't seem to figure out for the life of me why my motherboard won't boot from a thumb drive that has windows on it. I've tried everything from starting with usbs booting to disabling everything beside the usbs. And my bios does show a usb is plugged in but just blank screen with the blinking underscore at the top left when it's selected. Any ideas what might be up? All I want to do is install windows to my nvme drive that picked up. cpu: I-7 6700 gpu: Sapphire RX 580 8GB ram: 16 gb 2133Mhz Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-Gaming B8

Hello, I have 2 Veracrypt Recovery Images from laptop and PC that I want to keep on external storage and use in the case of emergency. I don't want to make bootable CD/DVD for each because I don't have the required devices but want the convenience of USB flash drive. I know there are programs like Ventoy and WinToUSB that allow you to have multiple bootable images on one external storage and choose which one to boot from. Is this possible with Veracrypt Recovery Images? I also want to use WinRar to password-protect these 2 files and store them online in the cloud.

Hi everyone, Would like your thoughts around creating a bootable external HDD/SDD with either Windows 10 or Linux Mint. I'd like to bring a portable OS with all my work and games and use it at my friend's gaming PC; ideally I'll be doing some rendering and some gaming while I'm staying over. Here are my questions: If my friend's PC uses Windows 10 and my bootable external HDD also contains Windows 10, will there be any conflict when it starts up? If so, will it be better to use Linux Mint in this case? Once I boot into my personal drive on their PC, will I be able to see my friend's hard drives? I'd like to keep his hard drives and my own stuff separate. Have read that you can unmount drives in Win 10; does this mean that every time I use his PC with my external drive that I'll need to unmount them? In the event that my external drive has a virus or malware, will my friend's PC also be impacted? As a safety measure, I'd like to understand how this will impact them since this isn't my own PC. Appreciate your comments and help. Thanks!

Hey guys, I wanted to make a usb device to have bootable Android 6, or Android 7 if possible. I have done some searching on Google, but I couldn't really find much for what I wanted to do. Does anyone have a link to a good tutorial I can follow, or can someone explain it here? EDIT: I want it to run on-top of Windows 10, so I don't have to restart my pc in order to switch between Win10 and Android. Thanks in advance.

I was wondering if I could get some help or knowledge on how to download a bootable USB since my new build will not come with an optical drive. I have Rufus, a USB, and my CD key for Windows 8.1. I just do not know how to properly put it on the USB or boot it up on the new computer with bios. A question I have with this aswell would be, will I still be able to use Windows 8.1 on the computer I got the key and such off of, Thank you for your help. so I just upgraded my PC and it posts and opens BIOS just fine, but when I put in the bootable USB it wasn't allowing me to create a partition to my wiped and formatted SSD. So I updated the BIOS drivers and then when i booted up the drive, either a syslinux error code would pop up or I would get a message saying there was no operation system to be found. It would also sometimes just reopen the BIOS. I went to Geeksquad and they said it mightve been the update I did, so i went back to the default BIOS version and now it just reopens the BIOS. Specs: Ryzen 7 1700 ASUS Strix B350-f gaming motherboard Corsair vengeance LPX 2x8GB RAM gtx 1050ti FTW kingston 120gb SSD EVGA 600W 80+ white Seagate 1TB HDD Any ideas as to what it might be? P.S. the USB drives work on my mac just fine, and are registering in the BIOS.

If you are a pirate or just someone with a windows license key or needing isos for Virtual Machines, it becomes frustrating if you lose your iso. Now Microsoft does not let you download the iso, and most PCs have the key in their bios. I have a solution. These are all the original isos for windows (EN) every version and every subversion. I will not be giving out product keys but these are the original isos from Microsoft, I will link you to the Microsoft iso hashes so you can verify if you do not trust me. I am happy to help you all and anyone who ever needs windows isos. I took a lot of time on this so I hope you found this helpful. It was so hard to find ones with the original hash so I hope you like it. Hello world! So Im a newb here on the forum. Initially, all of this was written as a response to a thread that I bumped on just now. As i was typing away, I was automatically logged out... leaving we with a grey window upon submitting. Now being a bit used to web based forums... I always do regular copies of the novels they always tend to become as I go, so no harm done. I couldn't find the thread though... so I thought that I'd post a thread with it instead. Not sure if I picked the right forum for it though, if not... rip. Some of you may find this a bit excessively clear if you're used to dealing with the commandline and OS servicing in general. But this is for the beginners. I feel that it's a good cause to give them the power of their operatingsystems instead of using third party software to do something that they can do on their own, and at the same time maybe learning something. Step 1: Mount the ISO. Just double click the ISO file to mount it. It will be given a letter (i.e. "E:" or "D:") Take note to this letter, you'll need it later. Most likely though, it will be "E:". Step 2: Open a command prompt. (Hold Windows key and press X, then click "Command prompt (Administrator).) Then click Yes. Step 3: Insert a USB drive, with at least 8gb of storage, THIS DATA WILL BE ERASED ON THE USB DRIVE SO SAVE EVERYTHING ON IT BEFORE PROCEEDING. Preferrably not larger than 32g as the command for that would be different. Make sure you disconnect every other USB harddrive and/or USB drive for the time being. Step 4: Type command: diskpart and hit enter. Type command: list disk and hit enter. Step 5: Now, you will see the harddrives connected to your machine. They all have a number, with your system drive identified as "Disk 0". This is NOT the disk to select in this case. The USB drive will likely be put last or close to last in the list. I mounted a 64gb USB drive to my system, you can view this example image. It is clear by determining the size of this drive being 57gb, as the external drive. This time it was given the identifier disk2 in my system. Yours could be different depending on how many drives are in the machine. Take note of what number your external drive is given. Step 6: Just to make sure that the drive you think is the external one really is what it is, execute the following commands: sel disk 2 << This is where you put your number for your external USB drive. Could be 1, 2, 3 or whatever. Look at the size and guess. detail disk << This command will output the details of your disk. Up top, you will see information as to how it is connected. It should say "USB" in "Type". You know it is the right disk. See my attached picture for that too. Step 7: Now, assuming you know which disk is your USB drive, we will proceed. I will refer to the USB as "Disk x" here for the examples. Replace "X" with your number for the USB. Type the following commands, hitting Enter after each one. sel disk x (This being the USB drive Disk number) clean create par primary format quick fs=fat32 label=wininstall active assign letter=m exit Step 8: Now your USB drive is primed to become a windows install media. It might have popped up in a window after the assign letter command, giving it a mountpoint. Just close that window. The "exit" command in Step 7 is rather important. Now, you need to know the letter of your mounted Windows installer ISO that you did in Step 1. Mine was given the letter E: so I will use that for my example below. you can copy and paste the following command. To paste in CMD, right click and click "paste" or hold shift while doing ctrl+v. xcopy /s /e /h e:* m: Step 9: Now enjoy the power of xcopy, as the files from the ISO copy from the image over to your USB. XCOPY with those switches copies everything from hidden system files, to empty directories. A simple drag-n-drop here will not do, hence XCOPY. When it tells you that its done copying, you can close the command prompt and eject the drive. Turn the machine off and boot from the USB. Please let me know if anything is unclear! The most important thing here is not to select the wrong letters and the wrong disk, especially when running "clean". That command completely erases all data off of the drive. If you want to do this on a Mac, a combination of diskutil and the dd command can perform these steps too. Let me know if you need that info too.

Hey, a friend of mine recently worked on his pc when suddenly windows 10 crashed and showed a blue screen. After that he tried restarting, but it failed. The SSD won't show up in the BIOS as a bootable device. I was now wondering if someone of you knows what could be the error and if it could be fixed with some storage repair software and if so, do you know some kind of software which doesn't cost too much. Preferably a free way to get his data back I don't have the SSD brand and specs with me but his PC is not older than two years. Have a nice evening, Simon

Hello. I have a question, Could you possibly boot Windows Vista off A 32/64GB USB or a Hard drive? I'm pretty certain that this is possible, You may be asking "WHY WINDOWS VISTA?!?" Well I thought wouldn't it be great to share the joys of a 12 Year old operating system that changed how Windows looked in our pocket? But of course this could be done with any version of Windows such 10,8.1/8/7/XP or even 2000+95! The hard disk drive would be the USB and the computer would be what gives it Internet and such other things. Could this be made into a Video if Possible? Thank you very much, IsaacCatnology ?.

Hi so my friend wanted a clean install of windows. So what we did was go into the UEFI BIOS and boot off of a USB that we created using the media creation tool. We saw many partitions so what we did was press shift f10 to open up CMD and clean all the drives. Then we went back and it showed 2 drives his ssd and hdd. But there was a problem, it said windows could not create a partition or locate one. So we tried the un plug and plug back in method. We shut down the PC with the USB in then we took it out and put back in while it was shut off.Next, We booted up the PC to find that the usb drive wasn't listed in the boot menus we tried unplugging it and restarting the pc but nothing worked. So I need your help please my friend is pissed off at me and I don't want this to ruin our friendship. So please leave your suggestions below. Thanks!

Having issues getting my new build to boot through USB. I’m having to use MacOS to get the windows 10 64 bit installer onto a drive. I’ve been using Etcher to flash the ISO file (I’ve even tried boot camp which doesn’t even get a bootable drive on the BIOS) but when the installer begins on the new PC I get a message stating “the media driver is missing” and “no device drivers were found”. USB is in a 2.0 port, I’ve tried plugging into a different port and rescanning, and running the boot in UEFI but still the same message. MOBO - Asus X570-PLUS TUF (WiFi)

Hello guys, Today a friend of mine asked me to install windows to his old computer for which he bought an ssd so it will run faster. So i though it will be a standard installation -- i mean i have done so many i can't count but to my surprise i've been running into problems all the time. So lets begin then. I have a bootable USB drive just so you know. Firstly i've tried to install windows 10 as per his wish, everything went smootly i install the OS and restart. At the windows 10 logo after the installation where it says "preparing your devices" it always ran into a problem where i believe the hardware wasn't supported so the procces was never a success. Ok i decided to reinstall windows 7 which we had before. And this is where things started to get weird. For the get go i couldn't get into the actual "install now" screen, i've tried multiple things from disabling secure boot to changing to legacy boot and also i tried to make a bootable usb with GPT as suggested on a tom's hardware forum. But none of these things worked. So i turned to making a new bootable usb, maybe the iso was corrupt. The next time i tried i just kept getting the bootmgr error, i also decided to unplug all the drives apart from the ssd BUT then nothing ever happened, only a black sceen all the time. I could hear the post beep but the screen was always black. So i plug all of them back again i could get into the "install now" screen but then it got stuck on "setup prepairing". So after hours of troubles and searching for an answer i gave up and that's why i'm turning onto you guys. Most of my tries just ended with the bootmgr error and that was it either i missed something and i'm getting old or somethings odd. Any and all help will be greatly appreciated. Kind regard, Gašper

Hey I have an old optiplex 7020 with an i5 4690 in it and I was wondering if I got a pci to m.2 adapter if I could use it as a boot drive. It has that same bios that all the old optiplex pcs have. I am in a pretty frustrating situation. Let me start out by saying about 6-10 months ago I had my 1TB Seagate external hdd setup to be a bootable windows 7 drive (Think it was 7 could have been 10). I had to wipe it as I needed the storage. Fast forward to last night and today. I want to set it back up to be able to be used as a bootable drive. I have read that this is just not possible from posts on different forums from many years ago, which does not make sense to me as I had it working fine before. I have tried using things like Rufus, PowerISO, Windows USB/DVD Download Tool. I have taken a look at many many guides that just do not work. The farthest I can get is the error message "setup does not support configuration of or installation to disks through a USB or IEEE 1394 port" Which I have read is just Microsoft being Microsoft and locking down their OS cause they dont want users to have portable boot drives. I have also tried many fixes and methods to try to get past this but I absolutely cannot figure out what to do. I have tried formats like MBR and GPT and many other configurations. I have tried to use diskpart to properly create a clean partition on my drive and still nothing. I am really at a loss here and would love if anyone can point me in the right direction. My only needs really is it has to be Win 7 or Win 10 home or pro doesnt matter. If you have any questions please ask really want to get this figured out.

So I know there's a command to make a bootable USB for current version of OS X High Sierra, which is sudo /Applications/Install\ macOS\ High\ Sierra.app/Contents/Resources/createinstallmedia --volume /Volumes/MyVolume --applicationpath /Applications/Install\ macOS\ High\ Sierra.app But I can't find any command for the newly released OS X Mojave, and I realized that the command for different OS X versions has some similarities. So can anyone help me modified the command so it will work with Mojave? Appreciate any help! P/S: My drive is named "MyVolume" fyi

Hi. I want to create a bootable image of 10.13.4, but when I download the OS from the App Store, I get the 15MB version and not the full one. Not a problem since you can start the download inside that one and stop it before it restarts and then deletes the OS files, but how do I make that DMG in another folder bootable? I have an idea, but can't try it before I get home in quite a few hours, and if someone has an idea how to modify the commands that need to be run, it could save me some good time! I've done it before (with this tutorial: https://tylermade.net/2017/10/05/how-to-create-a-bootable-iso-image-of-macos-10-13-high-sierra-installer/), almost the same way Apple officially says is the right way, but that assumes it's in the Application folder with the 'createmedia' executable, the files aren't the same with the 15MB method and createmedia isn't included as far as I saw yesterday (briefly looked at it), so can anyone help? Thanks in advance! EDIT: Sorry for any typing error, I have 9% power left, so needed to write this quickly!
