Kabylake or Zen mighty becoming early January 2017 release! (Not 100% confirmed its a theory) I was watching a video from paul's hardware, his $1000 Balanced Gaming PC! - Dec 2016 Monthly, Build to be more exact, when I noticed him saying "pretty good chance that I'm not actually building the system due to some upcoming stuff at the very end of December and the beginning of January, that I can't really talk about yet." (Timestamp: 1:29+) So I thought about what could be so big that it would stop a whole build, at first I thought new a GPU but can't be right they just released the 400 series and 1000 series couple months back, then I thought about the CPUs, that's where I got idea of the release of kabylake or zen could be very soon. in my opinion, I think its probably going to be KabyLake going be released due to the frequent leaks and the amazon India listing and it not being the biggest update or a new architecture released the date of release maybe or going be around 7th of January 2017.(guessestimates) SOURCES Amazon India, Intel's 7th Generation Page!

I just heard about Zen yesterday (I know I'm late to the party ig) But I'm looking for budget parts and the Intel CPUs always seem to (from what I can tell) perform better, especially when it comes to games, so I never took the time to learn about AMD sockets, CPUs, etc. I actually want to see what will happen when Zen releases and I'm hoping prices will drop at least a little bit. So, where should I look to learn about all the AMD CPU stuff? Also I'm 13 so dumb it down a little for me lol

Hi all, I currently run an i7 920 overclocked at 4GHz so am way behind in technology. I have decided to wait for AMD Zen (Rysen) before deciding which CPU to go with because it looks promising so far. However, I heard they are only going to be supported by Windows 10? Is this true? If so, why? I like Windows 7 and would prefer to keep it over 10.

What should i buy for gaming a 6600K or a 6700k? Or should I wait for Zen?

In looking at future Ryzen options, I read earlier reports that AM4 cooler mounting was the same as AM3+. I am now finding out that this is not totally true. It seems the through board holes have changed, the rectangle pattern becoming closer to a square. AM3+ being 96 X 48 mm and AM4 being 90 X 54 mm. Perhaps the wraith cooler above board interface is the same with the stock mounting bars but the mounting bars have changed from AM3+ to AM4 Noctua seem to already have adapters. source source Published: 19th December 2016: AMD's AM4 socket will not be compatible with old CPU coolers

hey guys what's up! A friend of mine asked me to help him build a gaming pc around the 450$ range.. He's not a heavy game player, we are talking about moba/fps on 1080p. At first i was thinking i3 6100 with 1050ti or a rx470, both the 4g version.. i was kinda happy about it.. but.. then i started thinking about an amd build rocking the 8350 but on that kind of budget i was thinking isnt it an overkill? idk i have myself and fx6300 and im fairly sure that the 8350 can do a great job even with the game that are coming out today ... it's surely better then the i3 6100.. but still maybe with a good gpu... is gonna be worth but with a 1050 or a 460 doesnt seems the right choice! or at least to me.. (im probably even going to be out of budget) Right now i was thinking and here is the question... should i get a pentium and rock a better gpu(kinda) https://pcpartpicker.com/list/d4fGhq or should i go for the i3 6100 and stick with a basic gpu? https://pcpartpicker.com/list/wxMDQV Should i wait for zen and expect a budget lineup of cpu? i still don't know when they are gonna release it ... and here in italy the market of pc hardware isnt that great anyway so at the start of the release they are gonna be overprized and im kinda sure they will run out of stock fast... and there is gonna be some more time to wait... Should i wait for the kabylake to be out? its should be out sooner the zen and the i3 7350k doesnt seems that bad of a cpu but still im scared that the cost its gonna be too much and paired with the z170 ... jesus im gonna be so much out of budget... Sooo for the conclusion what do you guys think? do you have some better ideas? zen seems the right choice to make... but still things are so unclear and idk what to expect!... Anyway in case u notice some errors Sorry! Thanks a lot!

What do you think about 8C/16T Ryzen, RX 490 and 16/32GB DDR4?

I'm sure no one knows yet... But just in case... Do any of you "insiders" or "famous" tech guys have any idea if Zen will be soldered? I personally hope they are as crappy as intel chips have been, with their huge gaps from adhesive and crappy tims just begging for another 20-50c be knocked off. Seriously increases the bang for buck (for me at least). These chips seem incredibly promising, assuming intel doesn't have a secret weapon hiding (which they probably do since they've been doing crappy ~5% ipc gains per "generation". I'm sure theres tons of R&D money being poured into something. I know AMD has a tendancy to solder, but considering these will be 14nm, I'm hoping they don't (once again for my own selfish reasons).

Been gathering some money the past few months and want to get an early build within the first few weeks in Jan. The build is mainly for gaming and any work will be using office or other light software. Maybe some light video editing, but nothing too major. I'm decided on most of my parts and was originally going for the Skylake i5. However, as Kabylake is rumoured to be very early Jan, supposedly at CES, I thought it might be worth getting that instead. As long as the product obviously isn't a complete flop in the gain that I would get for paying, I would assume, a bit more than I would for Skylake. I really want to get this build up by the end of Jan; I am going to start ordering more concrete parts like storage devices and the case just after Christmas and possibly before the new year. Ryzen's release appears very much up in the air, compared to Kabylake, even though all information is still 'rumours', but would it be worth waiting until say Feb or March to get Ryzen. Will there be much of a difference than getting Skylake or Kabylake, if the chips drop early Jan, in terms of just being put in what will be a primarily a gaming rig with no work software or video rendering? EDIT: This may have been posted in the wrong section, 'CPUs, Motherboards, and Memory seem more fitting.

They've been leaked, we can finally see how well Ryzen will perform against it's opponents. The benchmarks are done in Cinebench R15 with Ryzen getting a total score of 1188 beating the 7700K which sits at 966 Cinebench R15 results: AMD Ryzen - 1188 Core i7-7700K - 966 Core i7-7700K @ 5GHz - 1083 Core i7-6900K - 1500 Core i7-6950X - 1800 source; TweakTown

Another AMD socket AM4 motherboard has made its way on to the web. This one is from Asus and the model is the Asus A320M-C. A320 is, AMD's entry level chipset for Zen and it does not support overclocking. From the board itself we can see, there is a physical x16 and dual x1, as well as a legacy PCI. Some mysterious header in front of the 24 pin, IMO a LPT port? Back i/o, some USBs both 2.0 and 3.0. Dedicated PS/2 for both keyboard and mouse. Audio jacks, gigabit lan, video outputs, and a serial or COM port. Next to the HDMI is a empty spot with some solder points. My guess, USB type C for some models. And they're still using the same black/gold color scheme for their low cost boards. http://www.xfastest.com/thread-181559-1-1.html

(TL;DR at bottom) So, all the hype around Ryzen is starting to cool off. As I staved off boredom today, looking back through older Linustechtips videos, I came across the 7 Gamers 1 CPU video and decided to watch the original instead, going all the way back to the 2 Gamers 1 CPU video. Watching this video reminded me of the time when this video had just come out and, being a teenager without a six-figure income, I had tried to find out if it was cheaper to make this rig instead of two identical performance-matched rigs. In short, the answer was no, with the CPU being the main cost restriction. The price delta going from a consumer 4 core up to an 8 core was too much on Intel's side, and AMD's FX 8xxx or 9xxx offerings simply wouldn't run that well on 4 cores per rig. This stumbling block made me a little bit sad, as the idea of sharing certain components between two rigs to save money seemed like it had a lot of potential. But here comes Ryzen. While we should be taking the pricing rumours with a grain of salt, all I can do is wait and hope that AMD will make the right move and force Intel into a pricing war. So without further ado… 2 GAMERS 1 CPU INTEL: PCPartPicker part list: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/x42sVY Price breakdown by merchant: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/x42sVY/by_merchant/ CPU: Intel Core i7-6900K 3.2GHz 8-Core Processor ($999.99 @ SuperBiiz) CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Nepton 240M 76.0 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler ($105.99 @ NCIX US) Motherboard: Asus X99-E ATX LGA2011-3 Motherboard ($208.99 @ SuperBiiz) Memory: Kingston FURY 32GB (4 x 8GB) DDR4-2400 Memory ($162.98 @ PCM) Storage: Samsung 850 EVO-Series 500GB 2.5" Solid State Drive ($164.99 @ Jet) Storage: Samsung 850 EVO-Series 500GB 2.5" Solid State Drive ($164.99 @ Jet) Storage: Seagate Barracuda 2TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($68.15 @ NCIX US) Storage: Seagate Barracuda 2TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($68.15 @ NCIX US) Video Card: Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1070 8GB G1 Gaming Video Card (2-Way SLI) ($399.99 @ B&H) Video Card: Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1070 8GB G1 Gaming Video Card (2-Way SLI) ($399.99 @ B&H) Case: Cooler Master MasterCase Pro 5 ATX Mid Tower Case ($124.99 @ B&H) Power Supply: EVGA 850W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply ($109.88 @ OutletPC) Other: 2 x Windows 10 Home License ($200.00) Other: UnRAID Plus License ($89.00) Total: $3268.08 Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available Generated by PCPartPicker 2016-12-20 19:49 EST-0500 INDIVIDUAL RIG INTEL: PCPartPicker part list: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/dftDQV Price breakdown by merchant: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/dftDQV/by_merchant/ CPU: Intel Core i7-6700K 4.0GHz Quad-Core Processor ($324.99 @ Newegg) CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Nepton 240M 76.0 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler ($105.99 @ NCIX US) Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-Z170X-Gaming 3 ATX LGA1151 Motherboard ($129.89 @ OutletPC) Memory: Kingston FURY 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-2400 Memory ($103.99 @ Newegg) Storage: Samsung 850 EVO-Series 500GB 2.5" Solid State Drive ($164.99 @ Jet) Storage: Seagate Barracuda 2TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($68.15 @ NCIX US) Video Card: Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1070 8GB G1 Gaming Video Card ($399.99 @ B&H) Case: Cooler Master MasterCase Pro 5 ATX Mid Tower Case ($124.99 @ B&H) Power Supply: EVGA SuperNOVA NEX 650W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply ($74.88 @ OutletPC) Other: Windows 10 Home License ($100.00) Total: $1597.86 Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available Generated by PCPartPicker 2016-12-20 19:53 EST-0500 I chose an i7 6900K on Intel's side because AMD has been keen to compare their 8/16 top model Ryzen CPU with it, and their benchmarks show they are fairly equal in terms of performance. As You can see from the parts list, by only changing the necessary components between a 2 PC rig and a normal rig, the 2 PC rig is just over double the price of the single rig. This defeats the cost benefit of the double rig. But what if we went with a Ryzen CPU for both rigs? This will involve a bit of guessing, as there is no set price on Ryzen CPUs or on any AM4 motherboards as of yet. For the CPUs, we’ll go with the rumoured USD $500 for the 8 core and USD $350 for the 4 core. For the AMD motherboard, we’ll go with a worst case scenario pricing-wise, and price it at USD $200 - Roughly the same as the X99 motherboard (enthusiast platform) used in the Intel double rig. 2 GAMERS 1 CPU AMD: PCPartPicker part list: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/gN7NYr Price breakdown by merchant: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/gN7NYr/by_merchant/ CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Nepton 240M 76.0 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler ($105.99 @ NCIX US) Memory: Kingston FURY 32GB (4 x 8GB) DDR4-2400 Memory ($162.98 @ PCM) Storage: Samsung 850 EVO-Series 500GB 2.5" Solid State Drive ($164.99 @ Jet) Storage: Samsung 850 EVO-Series 500GB 2.5" Solid State Drive ($164.99 @ Jet) Storage: Seagate Barracuda 2TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($68.15 @ NCIX US) Storage: Seagate Barracuda 2TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($68.15 @ NCIX US) Video Card: Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1070 8GB G1 Gaming Video Card (2-Way SLI) ($399.99 @ B&H) Video Card: Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1070 8GB G1 Gaming Video Card (2-Way SLI) ($399.99 @ B&H) Case: Cooler Master MasterCase Pro 5 ATX Mid Tower Case ($124.99 @ B&H) Power Supply: EVGA 850W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply ($109.88 @ OutletPC) Other: 2 x Windows 10 Home License ($200.00) Other: UnRAID Plus License ($89.00) Other: AMD Ryzen 8 Core CPU ($499.00) Other: Nondescript AM4 ATX Motherboard ($199.00) Total: $2757.10 Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available Generated by PCPartPicker 2016-12-20 20:16 EST-0500 INDIVIDUAL RIG AMD: CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Nepton 240M 76.0 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler ($105.99 @ NCIX US) Memory: Kingston FURY 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-2400 Memory ($103.99 @ Newegg) Storage: Samsung 850 EVO-Series 500GB 2.5" Solid State Drive ($164.99 @ Jet) Storage: Seagate Barracuda 2TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($68.15 @ NCIX US) Video Card: Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1070 8GB G1 Gaming Video Card ($399.99 @ B&H) Case: Cooler Master MasterCase Pro 5 ATX Mid Tower Case ($124.99 @ B&H) Power Supply: EVGA SuperNOVA NEX 650W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply ($74.88 @ OutletPC) Other: Nondescript AM4 ATX Motherboard ($199.00) Other: AMD Ryzen 4 Core CPU ($349.00) Other: Windows 10 Home License ($100.00) Total: $1690.98 Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available Generated by PCPartPicker 2016-12-20 20:24 EST-0500 On AMDs side things get more interesting. There actually is a substantial saving going from an individual rig to a double rig. This is due to AMDs (theoretically priced) offerings. These rumoured prices follow the business model of getting more bang for your buck as you buy higher tier models (while the jump from a 6700K to a 6900K is over double the price). This, combined with the fact that the AM4 platforms unifying these different models means there will be no delta in motherboard pricing. This results in the possibility of 2 Gamers 1 CPU now being a viable money saving option, even with the added cost of an unRAID Plus License. Of course, this is all hypothetical. This could well go down the drain if AMD prices Ryzen similar to Intel's current offering. But hey! One can hope! What are your thoughts on this? (Please let me know if I've made a typo or mistake somewhere) TL:DR (Going from rumoured pricing of USD$500 and $350 for Ryzen's 8-core and 4-core CPUs respectively) A Ryzen based 2 Gamers 1 CPU machine offers a substantial per-rig discount over a Ryzen based normal rig, while Intel's current offerings mean that an Intel based 2 Gamers 1 CPU machine is less economically viable per-rig over an Intel based normal rig. Ryzen may well make 2 Gamers 1 CPU a lucrative possibility. EDIT - HTML bits didn't work. Replaced with normal text.

http://www.guru3d.com/news-story/amd-ryzen-processors-reach-5-ghz-on-air,2.html Nothing else really to say. If this is true (which buildzoid claims is unlikely), it will likely be NH-D15 territory only and very rarely.

Give your honest opinion and tell if you want to upgrade to either of these when they release.

So I know all the new AM4 "Ryzen ready" Motherboards are showing up as CES today, There's like 6 videos on it in my youtube feed, as well a ton of artcles online I'm sure. One question I didn't haven't seen answered is what older chips is going to be supported on the new platform? I know I saw somewhere that they're going to be re-releasing AM4 compatible versions of older chips, but I never saw list of the chips that are going to be released. Edit: Okay I'm even more confused now, I just finished watching the Paul's Hardware video and he said they were going to reconfigure the current 7th gen APUs for AM4
-
I'm wondering if I should wait for the new AMD Zen CPUs to come out or should I buy an FX series right now

cpu Will AMD Zen will cause CPU price drop?
ShadySocks posted a topic in CPUs, Motherboards, and Memory
Do you expect the release of AMD Zen cause price drops for CPUs similar to the price drops for GPUs? (First thread sorry ) -
AMD has just announced where we'll get an official first look at their new AMD Zen line of CPUs. http://links.em.experience.amd.com It appears they will also have some eSports celebrities at the show to push the new CPU line onto mainstream gamers

Halp.

Does any know if amd have released prices for any of the Zen chips apart from the 8 core simultaneous multithreaded one. I'm thinking about getting the six core simultaneous multithreaded cpu they will release if its any good

Gday all, back earlier this year i brought a RV04 Silverstone case. inverted case, which is great for me. i have nearly always had my computer sitting on my left. now when i first looked into this case, the one thing everyone complained about was... yes the "flimsy" door. ok SOO yes it has SOME but its not that bad, honestly its not, if you are opening it like a civilized human with 2 iotas of common sense and not being a complete drongo reefing on the bugger then you will have no problems. quick explanation here as to why it flex's and also why this isn't such a bad thing... Firstly its plastic, and is in a pursuit to save some weight, so its not super thick stuff. secondly its not coming to a squared corner, its rounded, this is allowing for some flex here. thirdly its not such a bad thing, have you seen what happens to ridgid plastic doors on cases, soon as it trys to flex a little, friggen snap crackle and pop no door no more. that shit breaks! moving on. the Case itself metal wise, mate!, i was a sheety for a company called Fabers toolboxes, anyone who knows them knows we had a thing for being good. so metal work is important to me, if its crap metal, wont touch it, if it has those poxy hook tabs on the side panel to lock it on the case, forget it mate thats just a problem later on. if the strengthening folds are done badly i dont want it... annnnnd so on so forth, i spent hours and hours looking at cases. i was looking at NZXTs and the silverstone 3 days later. now, one thing people kept saying other then the door, was .... you can not liquid cool a RV04. this is a lie, and over the next yr or so (once my ute "leona" is back on the road with a new gearbox) i will be starting a new build in this case. im going for a Red Build, Zen we shall start the water cooling build (haha Zen, get it haha... im funny damn it!) i will be posting pictures when i can start on this project. If you would like some ideas on how to do some metal work related things on cases feel free to ask, and ill help as much as i can (thou having physical object in front of me is always easier to work from) post a picture if you want to show issues and what not.
