Right now I have a Z97 Extreme4 board from ASRock with my i5-4460. This is because I bought the board knowing that I would want to upgrade to an unlocked chip soon enough and could save money if I stayed on the same platform. So I was wondering a few things about Haswell K series CPUs: 1. I've heard the 4770K and 4790K are basically the same exact thing, just one has higher out of the box clocks. Is this true, or is the 4790K actually better for some reason? 2. Is it worth getting one of those for light content creation (being able to encode, preferably at 60 FPS 720p with the CPU while gaming), or should I go for the 4690K? 3. Should I wait till Zen comes out, because perhaps if it's competitive, the price on Haswell will drop a bit?

Hey, guys. I'm looking at buying an SSD for my boot drive. I'm really interested in the OCZ RD400 M.2. My only concern is that I've heard about compatibility issues with certain Z97 motherboards, like not being able to utilize all four PCI-E lanes. I have an MSI Z97 Gaming 5 (MS-7917) (Screenshot attached.) I've looked around, but I can't seem to find anything that confirms or denies that I'll be able to use this M.2 SSD without bottleneck from the PCI-E bus. In fact, I've just gotten really confused. Could anyone help me out and tell me if I'll be able to use this SSD to its full potential, or should I just buy a regular SATA 3 SSD? Thanks!

The bass is very low on my new Sennheiser G4ME Zeros, which I know is a common problem among PCs with bad integrated sound cards. The requirements state a minimum of 50 Ohms, but my motherboard can output 600 Ohms so I don't see why I have this problem. (Yes they are connected directly in to the motherboard, not in the case. lol) Motherboard: MSI z97 MPower MAX AC

Quick question, i see from google/manual that the MSI Gaming 5 Z97 has 3 pcie slots capable of running at 16x/0x/0x or 8x/4x/4x or 8x/8x/0x What i'm not clear on is if i can mount a single GPU on the lower or middle slot @ 16x anybody know for sure? Reason i ask is in my case mounting the GPU there gives me much more space for the pump and res above it.

I did see the 4 videos of linus about the z97 comparison, but when i saw another types of videos about the same topic, there wasnt a single one with almost the same opinion as the 4 videos proved. im trying to buy a z97 + i5-4690k but im not very sure of which one mobo should i buy knowing the different aspects they show, such as dual bios, fans charger positions, usb connections, bios aspects and tons of different aspect this moobos have i know that most of the time it depends on the consumer and what he wants to do with it, but im just into gaming, no video or sound editing Which z97 do you think that would fit just right? GPU: GTx 970 SC RAM: 16GB 1866 mhz

I'm seriously scratching my head to whether I would see improvement with an M.2 950/850 drive on my Z97-Pro over a conventional SSD 850 Evo. I've seen people get similar results with these drives: Samsung 850 EVO 500GB M.2-2280 Solid State Drive Samsung 850 EVO-Series 500GB 2.5" Solid State Drive Samsung 950 PRO 256GB M.2-2280 Solid State Drive What I'm wondering and what I hope you guys will know is which I should be purchasing and whether I'd see much of a difference in performance. I'm mainly looking at the 500GB evo and the 500GB M.2. My motherboard is: https://www.asus.com/uk/Motherboards/Z97PRO/specifications/ On their website it states that I have "1 x M.2 Socket 3, , with M Key, type 2260/2280 storage devices support". But I'm not sure if that means I can use them, and if I can will it be to their full potential? Thanks in advance

Hello Guys, I am choosing a new Z97 motherboard, so i choosed the MSI Z97 GD 65, as it has 12 phases on CPU (to a more stable overclocking), and supports SLI, that is what i need. The question is: do i have another better option for the new motherboard? What i need is: 1. The board must be good for overclock. 2. It must supports SLI. 3. Good performance and network overall.

So when I boot my computer from cold 75% of the time it will hang on error code 4f (DXE IPL is started) I don't know what that means is half the problem. From looking around on the internet I think it's one of these 3 problems: CPU is dying Ram is dying Motherboard is dying BIOS is corrupt (as it boots sometimes I don't think it's this) If anyone has any idea what one it's most likely to be or if it's anything else please let me know. I might try flashing the BIOS tomorrow unless someone advises against it. Thanks

Hi! I have a MSI Mpower MAX AC z97 motherboard, with an I5 4690K. Currently I have an MSI GTX 970 installed on a PCIe x16 slot I am thinking of buying an "M2 to PCI-E X4" adapter so I could buy Samsung 950 pro and use all of it's power, because the m2 is internally conected to sata ports, so it will have lower speeds. My question is... Will my GTX performance be affected? It will be PCIe x8 if I install the adapter. PD: I saw linus video about it, but I am asking just in case someone find some issues about doing this. I am thinking of buying the new GTX 1080... is it going to need al the x16 lanes? Thank you all!

The board: msi z97 gaming 3 bios: click bios 4 Hey guys, a friend of mine accidentially cut the power connection to his pc today and windows broke. We fixed it and everything is working fine, eccept from the lan connection. Even though the pc is connected to the internet via Wi-fi we cant download the drivers for the ethernet connector in the device manager... Do have any ideas what to do? Because I have tried everything that could have helped but nothing happened. Thanks

I've been recently looking to upgrade my machine from an AMD FX 6300 to either an Intel 4790k or 6700k. If anyone would be so kind as to support each processor and why, it'd be greatly appreciated.

Hi! Thanks for maybe reading and maybe helping me out with this issue. So, not too long ago I got my MOBO RMA'd through ASUS. It was returned with the CPU Voltage set to auto in AI Suite. I didn't notice. By the time I got my MOBO reinstalled and started trotting away, I started up editing my short film. When time came to render, I would get insane temps and then BSOD's with a WHEA_UNCORRECTABLE_ERROR message. I checked WhoCrashed, I did every diagnostic possible, I tried Memtest86, everything. Only today after weeks of stressing did I realize what the issue was. So, I went into the BIOS and rearranged things back to manual, and now, no more overvolting, and I can actually get through my renders. Sort of. Now, even though my temps are fine, I still get BSOD's every now and then. I get it in CS, and even twice when rendering, at acceptable temps, at around 67 or so. So what gives? Did I fry my CPU? What could be the issue now? My temps are fine, and WHEA_UNCORRECTABLE generally points toward a thermal issue. I bought the H110i to replace my stock Intel cooler, but I want to make sure that the issue is solvable on my end before throwing the waterblock at it first. My specs: i7 4790k R9 290 Windforce Factory OC Crucial M500 256GB SSD WD 1 + 3 TB Blue and Black ASUS Z97-A

Sup guys just joined today. Wanted to get some opinions on upgrading my rig a bit. First off I'm mainly a gamer first and foremost and don't really do any media/video/high compute tasks. So I got my hands on a new Intel Core i7 6700k for a pretty good price. I'm currently running a Core i7 4790k in my rig along with a GTX 970. At first I was going to just buy a new motherboard and ram and just swap chipsets for the architectural benefits of the Z170 platform but now that the Nvidia Pascal cards are out, I'm wondering if I should just stick with what I have and sell the new 6700k and slightly used GTX 970(owned about 4-6 months) to purchase a GTX 1070. From a lot of what I've been reading the 6700k and 4790k perform very similarly if not for some minor wins/losses on each side depending on game/application. So basically my question to you guys is do you think I'd get better gaming performance from upgrading to a 1070 and sticking with the i7 4790K vs upgrading to Z170 and gaining the newer technologies of the chipset and keeping my GTX 970. Btw I run a 1080p monitor @ 60hz, just feel like the 8gb VRAM and new pascal performance would help a lot with some of the newer games coming out next year. Thanks for any replies, opinions etc.

Hello, I was doing some overclocking with i7 4790k and I saw my Bus speed randomly goes beyond 100Mhz such as 134Mhz in short bursts. (Monitored through the nzxt cam software for the Bus speed) I was wondering if there is a way to stop or disable the random overclocking on the Base clock. So I just got my ASUS Z97 PRO-GAMER motherboard and it came with a software called Sonic Radar 2 wich shows the direction where sounds come from. I noticed that it works well on most games but not CS:GO. I was wondering if there is a problem or if for ex. Vac is preventing it? I know that it can be considered cheating but I can't find anywhere online that has valve banned it?

I am going to be building a workstation this fall and I haven't decided if I want to go with Z97(4790K), X99(5930K), or Z170(6700K) for the CPU. I plan on using this workstation for primarily gaming but I also will be doing work in Visual Studio and other IDEs, light-moderate video editing and I want to be able to multitask out the ass. I initially was thinking X99 because of the shear power in those chips but would I be okay with Z97 or Z170 for what I want to do? I would also like to dabble in overclocking on both the CPU and GPU. Does anyone have experience overclocking on these chips? Edit: I made a few mistakes in regards to the chipsets used by the 4790K and 6700K; I haven't done as much research on the two platforms like I have for X99. The errors are corrected now and the post should be a little more clear.

So you can see my build in signature or at my profile. I'm using i7 4790 right now together with Z97 anniversary. I'm interested in upgrading it, but I don't know if I should buy Z97X gaming 3 for 110€ + i7 4790k for 320€. Or should I go with i7 6700k for 350€ + ASRock Z170 GAMING K4 Fatal1ty for 125€ + DDR4 16GB ram for around 100€. If I go for i7 6700k, I will end up paying around 150€ more than if I go for i7 4790k. Also i7 4790k have better clock, and better OC scores as I saw on web. Is that i7 6700k + DDR4 realy worth 150€ more?

I am planning a $1000 coding and 3d rendering build but im confused about something. I chose the Xeon 1231V3 as my CPU due to its low cost 8 cores (this is not the matter to be discussed here). For the motherboard, should i choose an msi z97-gaming-5 for its excellent feautures and the fact that it comes with x-split (which i might need later if i would like to stream console or pc games) and the fact that it has an m.2 slot, or should i go with the gigabyte z97-gaming-3 due to its amazing industrial design, and its built in Sound Blaster sound card and its m.2 slot. They both cost $129.99. I would like something that can survive for at least 3 years and something from a company with excellent customer support and with a reputation for long-life devices. I would like to have m.2 upgradability as i might want to get an m.2 ssd in the near future. I am also considering getting an msi z97-pc mate due to its low price but i feel that it'll be a mistake due to the lack of an m.2 slot being present and the lack of a good sound card and an industrial, long-life design.

Planning an upgrade from my FX-4300 finally. Going to a i7-4790K and I think I have settled on the MB's in the title to stay within budget. Reading all the specs and comparisons I dont see a lot of difference. I have a GTX 970 and may do some mild CPU OC'ing but nothing extreme. Is there anything that makes one of these boards a better choice, or is it down to color preference?

Just like the title says... I updated the bios for an NVME drive (which I ended up flaking out on the buyer on craigslist), so I updated the UEFI Bios. In the UEFI, I can adjust fans manually, and the fans change speed accordingly. HOWEVER, upon going into the OS, all the fans that were set to manual, simply do not run. I would love to set my fans to manual, and make my fan curves again as Noctuas do have a certain womp womp womp sound around 44-48% fan speed on my board... Any ideas?

1070 pics below I have yet to own a standard layout case, besides a Hadron Air. EVERY case I have had, was a pain to build in, Prodigy M, Hadron Air, FT-05... But here goes. with updated pictures. Ignore the mess. I'll admit it, this case was an impulse buy. But I LOVED the airflow layout, especially compared to my previous case, the Prodigy M. On my quest to throw money at non-existant problems (aka "what about expansion, because the prodigy basically only has 1 slot, even with an mATX board, unless you do not want to put fans up top)... With that said, It seems i have a knack for picking cases that SUCK to build in and SUCK to cable manage. Issues: one of the standoffs for ATX board is stripped, and every new standoff I screwed in, stripped... will be contacting Amazon and SIlverstone about that. Case: Silverstone Ft-05 CPU: 4790k @ 4.7 (maybe 4.8 because temps are great! mid to low 20s at idle) CPU Cooler: NH-D15s w/ 1200 rpm fan Motherboard: Asus Z-97m Plus GPU: MSI GTX 960 LE RAM: 16gb Crucial Ballistix (32 soon) PSU: EVGA 750 G2 Platinum Fans: Noctua AF-14 x2 and NF-F12 Pics are from my phone, My DSLR is broken This is how you upgrade fans right? PREVIOUS Good on you silver stone, I like screwing holes OH HEY I'M DONE Dat Clearance Doe I hate myself That 24pin cable needs a better route, if anyone has any thoughts... because it bows out the side panel @Bit8xPr0
