what happened? "The first problem relates to the Mi-Mover app, which allows you to transfer apps and some settings from any Android device (running 4.2 or higher) to a Xiaomi phone. This is a pretty common feature, even on Nexus and Pixel phones. However, if both devices are running MIUI, Mi-Mover will copy all system data to the new phone. This includes confidential information, like saved payment information, overriding Android's built-in sandbox protection in the process. Some applications are unaffected, like ones check the device or require a PIN at launch, but many popular apps like Twitter and Airbnb don't check the device. So if someone had access to a Xiaomi phone, they could copy all of a user's information without much effort" "Another flaw was found in how MIUI handles device-administrator apps. As you may know, many security/anti-theft apps (like Android Device Manager) can use Android's administrator permission to wipe the device. Uninstalling these apps usually requires the user's password, but eScan discovered that no prompt was given when deleting an administrator app. Theoretically, someone could steal a Xiaomi phone and quickly delete any anti-theft apps before the owner had the chance to use them." Xiaomi response TLDR- Xiomi Mi-Mover app can be easily used to copy user data, like saved payment information, overriding Android's built-in sandbox protection in the process, another issue was how someone with a stolen xiimi phone could uninstall device administrator giving them acess because of how MIUI handles device-administrator apps, so a thief can delete a anti theft app after obtaining the stolen phone before owner can activate any antitheft measure. "Uninstalling these apps usually requires the user's password, but eScan discovered that no prompt was given when deleting an administrator app." what do you guys think? i think a simple software update can fix the issues but not sure if that will happen. -http://www.androidpolice.com/2017/08/10/security-firm-discovers-several-major-flaws-miui/

So... will Linus ever review a Xiaomi Ricecooker???

So, I have an unusual problem. But first things first, yes, I know, chinese brand and all that. It's for a customer, he bought it and gave it to me to install a german windows. The device works like a charm, runs fast, amazing display, really quiet under windows with I'd say about 8 hours of battery life. What I want to know: Whenever I press a button on the keyboard, the touchpad becomes unresponsive for about 0.5 seconds. Under Windows I did not realize that at all but I tried Overwatch for gaming performance and I was to lazy to connect a mouse. Anyone else having this notebook and this issue, or any other notebook with that issue, or any idea to solve it? - I couldn't find anything on the internet (yet) except for one youtube guy who had the same issue. https://youtu.be/nBLnmoMJxhA?t=3m11s This is the video at the point where he describes the problem, same as I have it. - I tried several combinations of drivers: Original, Synaptics, Windows, Windows after Update. The touchpad works really well except for that short amount of time after pressing a button. Thanks in advance

I didn't see any post of this here in the LTT forum nor could I find anything by search so I'm posting this. Last year LMG posted a video of the 2nd gen camera of Xiaomi. The YI 4K was basically at that point beating the hero 4 black left and right. LTT review: Main points for this camera were: Half the price of a GoPro Same mounting system as GoPro Longer batterylife Capacitive touchscreen After Linus' review though, GoPro unleashed their hero 5 black on the market, which basically in terms of specs is very similar to the YI 4K camera linus reviewed but with two features that set it above last year's competitor. Waterproof without a case up to 10 meters Voice control Two weeks ago however, YI technology (Xiaomi's camera department) put the YI 4K+ on the market. It's the first action cam with 4K 60fps and 4K 30fps with EIS (electronic image stabilization). Also the price is 299USD Here's a comparison that was made between the cameras: So in short it has 4k 60fps, a larger battery, longer filming time and it costs less. What about image quality you might ask, here's a comparison I found: According to the creator of the video: Time for a 2017 action cam comparison? @LinusTech?

This is a review of a somewhat old product, but nonetheless I will give my thoughts on it for potential buyers I've owned this phone for >6 months now. This has replaced my old IPhone 5 and here are the things I like and dislike. Likes: • Decent Screen. At 5.1 inches, you can't really go wrong with a 1080p panel. Throughout my use the screen never failed to make content consumption/playing games eye-catching. • Great Processor. This thing uses a baseline Snapdragon 820 clocked at 1.8 Ghz. Paired with the Adreno 530 GPU , you won't have problems running the good games on android • Mi UI. This is very subjective. I personally came from an apple phone, and I was perfectly fine without the add drawer (and other native android UI). But I gotta Xiaomi props because they have ,imo, the most polished skin of Android. MI UI 8, the latest version is somewhat of an "Apple clone" but packs all the good features that an Android phone has. • Outstanding Battery Life. At 3000 mAh, this thing packs a ton. Given a decent usage (Few hours of Youtube content and gaming, daily communication), I can manage to squeeze almost a day and a half before ever needing to charge my Mi 5. • Quickcharge. The package comes with a QuickCharge 2.0 compliant charger, which does a good and somewhat fast job to charge my phone. I can go 0 to 70% in about 40-45 min charge. • Price to performance. We bought this at around $250 from China, and it sure does give the higher tier companies' flagships (Samsung, Apple, Huawei) a run for their money. At this price point, this is definitely a rare gem. • Decent Mobile Data connection. I'm aware it does not support America LTE, but here in our region LTE is supported on the Mi 5. Tried using the same data connection on my dad's 6+, and the Mi 5 fared quite well. Dislikes: • No SD card expansion. This isn't a deal breaker for me since the phone already sports a 32 GB built-in storage, but for heavy storage users this might be something worth noting. • Random slowdowns. I personally like my apps snappy and not that buggy, which this unit seems to not exhibit well. Given that I've only used 2.1/3 GB of the total RAM, the phone does throttle pretty badly, forcing me to clear some background apps that I might actually jump to and fro from. • Camera. Sure it's a decent 16 MP camera. But the shots I've gotten looked pale and sub-par compared to the IPhone 6-Plus that my dad has. • A CRAP ton of BLOATWARE. Having this phone bought from China, there was a ton of unnecessary apps installed. I'd suggest flushing the China ROM and installing the Global ROM. • Slippery af. This phone has a glass back, which is nice to hold but VERY slippery indeed. You may want to consider getting a non-slip case. • No Android updates. This comes stock with 6.0.1 Marshmallow, and I doubt Xiao Mi would be getting any of those, given that the Mi UI already updates once in a while. To summarize, the Mi 5 has been a worthy upgrade from my IPhone 5 (My first owned phone), and I'd gladly recommend it to anyone who's trying to get into the flagship line of phones without breaking the bank. But if you can spare a bit more money, you may want to consider getting the later edition Mi 5S, which sports a Snapdragon 821. On the other hand, if this would be too steep of a price still, may wanna take a look at the Redmi Note 4/ Note 4 Pro.

I live in the UK and use the Carrier GiffGaff, a subsiduary of O2. The issue is that I plan on purchacing a new phone and would like to use 4G/LTE. The frequency band O2 uses is 800 MHz though which two of the phones in consideration do not support. http://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=8291&idPhone2=8263&idPhone3=4664 http://www.4g.co.uk/4g-frequencies-uk-need-know/ Phones in consideration: Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 Xiaomi Redmi 4 Prime Elephone P9000 The question is: Even though the phones don't support the Band 20 , can it connect to other carriers cell towers using a different band and therefore enable me to use 4G? Or would I only be able to use 3G? If you have other recommenations or advice please do post your opinion. Thank you

My review of the Xiaomi Mi 5S Smartphone - Snapdragon 821
Redskulll posted a topic in Member Reviews
The Xiaomi Mi 5S is definitely a good looking phone, but is it competitive enough in today's saturated market? Well, for starters, it doesn't cost $8-900 like a Google Pixel or an iPhone. It is made out of metal and glass and looks very elegant and premium, the volume buttons do shake a bit but it isn't very noticeable. The camera used on this phone is the exact 12MP Sony sensor used in the Google Pixel phone. We don't have optical image stabilization but the EIS works good enough for most situations. I have included some sample footage in the review video. Picture taking is fast and the pictures turn out very nicely, but not as nice as they turn out from the Google Pixel; so it has to do a lot with the software optimization. We only have one mono speaker at the bottom of the phone, that gets loud enough, but nothing too special, at par with most flagships these days. The 5.15" screen has a 1080P resolution and that is a bit disappointing. The viewing angles are great and the screen gets quite bright for usage in bright daylight but the bezels around the screen are a bit hideous. Now the software; we have Android 6.0.1 running on the Mi 5S with Xiaomi's skin on top. If you are a fan of iOS, you will most likely like it. No, app drawer and the camera app looks just like the one you would find on an iPhone. You can change theams, and customize the phone however you wish from the Mi theams store. We also get lots and lots of features that none of us will probably get to use... I would say that more useless features than you would find on a Samsung phone for example. I wasn't impressed with the scores that i got for the Antutu benchmark and the Geekbench 4, and im sure it has to to with the Rom that came pre-installed on the device. There is also a fingerprint scanner imbeded in the home button that seems to work well 95% of the time. It is quite accurate, but every now and than it just doesn't want to register any touches. Inside the phone there is a 3100mAh battery that will last the entire day and with about 4h of screen on time, decent enough but not spectacular. For a phone that costs less than $350 i think that it offers quite a lot of value but it could be improved a bit here and there. The camera could take better pictures, the bezels around the screen could be smaller, the battery could last a bit longer. Check out the full review video for more information about the Xiaomi Mi 5S Smartphone!- 1 reply

Damn Xiaomi! back at it again with the 400$ premium device. Xiaomi has introduced their new mobile flagships the Mi 5s and 5s Plus. The Mi 5s is the smaller of the duo, sports a 5.15" 1080p screen, a SD821 SoC a 12MP Sony camera on he rear and 4MP on the front (also no camera humps ), 3 or 4GB RAM, a 3200mAh battery and is the first phone to use Qualcomm's Sense ID technology for the fingerprint sensor, removing the need of a physical button to also serve as sensor leaving just just a sleek piece of glass. Next is the 5s Plus, difference to the smaller brother is the 5.7" display, the 3800mAh battery, 4 or 6 GB of RAM and unlike the 5s will have the traditional fingerprint sensor on the back of the device and will also sport two 13MP Sony sensors (no camera humps here too ) on the back, the dual camera setup will function in the same way as Huawei P9 phone, one sensor dedicated to colours, the other for monochrome shots. Prices start a 299$ for the 64GB with 3GB of RAM 5s and go up to 345$ for the 4GB of RAM with 128GB model. The 5s Plus will start at 345$ with 64GB of storage and 4GB of RAM and will jump 389$ for the 128GB and 6GB of RAM version. Both will be available in gray silver gold and pink rose gold. The unveil of this new devices has also give great emphasis on the camera performance of both phones, with sample available at the source. source: http://en.miui.com/thread-361827-1-1.html

Hi LTT peeps, I've been looking around for a budget smartphone to get as a backup/toy phone to compliment my main smartphone. I've settled on getting the Xiaomi Redmi Note 4, but I can't decide on which model to get. For instance, which color do you guys think looks the best? Also, is the 3GB 64GB option worth the $40 premium over the base model? And yes, I am aware that this uses a MTK chipset, but I've wanted to try using one for a while, and I am willing to trade better build quality for some performance loss, so the Redmi Note 3 is out of the running for me. I'd love to have some input and opinions from you all. Here's a product page with all the configs/colors/prices. http://www.geekbuying.com/item/Xiaomi-Redmi-Note-4-Helio-X20-2GB-16GB-Smartphone---Gray-371580.html Thanks guys!

Hello, thank you for reading my question. I am wondering if I lose anything by buying the Chinese version of the Mi 4c? I was looking at it on Geekbuying and asked the operator if it was the chinese version and he said yes and when I asked what was the difference this was the reply: China version: has chinese apps, do not support OTA, u get what system , it will be what system. International version: will be installed with Global MIUI 7.0 OS ROM, Google play store, Google services and multi-languages.It supports OTA update International version IS better than china version. Its system and other funcation. For china vesion, we only install internatonal rom into it, so it will have play store and some langugas.

Hello, I can't make up my mind between The Xiaomi Redmi 3s and the Xiaomi Mi 4C. The Mi 4C is lighter, thinner and smaller than the 3s (which matters to me) but has a smaller battery and 16GB of non-expandable storage which might not be a problem but could be one in the future. I'm not sure about the performace, that's why I can't choose between them, the 3s has a octa core at 1.4 GHz and the 4C has a Hexa core (2 fast cores at 1.8 GHz and 4 cores at 1.4 GHz) and the 4C also has a higher resolution which could potentially make the performance worse and probably drains more battery life. Also has anyone bought from Geekbuying? I saw both phones almost two times cheaper than in my country on their site.

My Xiaomi redmi 2 constantly is heating up within 5 seconds of inserting the battery. It gets super hot, probably to its maximum. My phone wont boot either. If I hold down the power button then the phone vibrates once like usual, but it does not boot. No display on screen, its black, not even powered on I guess. I tried another battery and it is the same issue. I put the supposed faulty battery in another phone and that phone booted, so the battery can't be the problem. To get the phone to heat up I dont even really have to press and hold down any button, it automatically starts heating up like wild when I insert the battery. This problem started after say 5-7hrs of updating the phone. There was a very small update from Xiaomi which was supposed to fix the calendar app and few other small things. Ever since that day my phone is not working. It is out of warranty, can someone help/ guide me?

So recently I bought a 5,000 mAh XiaoMi Powerbank. I have done some research online and it has passed all authenticity tests except one. There is a XiaoMi Code on every product that can be used to be verified on their website. I entered the code and it said that it has been queried 2 times. Has anyone else had experience buying XiaoMi products and should I be worried by this? Thanks in advance.

Hello everyone! I'm now seriously thinking about getting into shooting movies for YouTube (special project that includes make-up as a superhero, mask, etc.) with some crazy things and reviews of uncommon items (not technology related). As I don't want to invest a sh*tload of money into hardware for making this project I was thinking about getting an action cam, as I think it would realize my requirements perfectly (I don't need autofocus or zoom). After a bunch of online searching I've found the Xioami's action cams called "Yi". The first one (cost aroud 60-70$), can shoot in 2K at 30fps with 35Mbps with mod. It requires phone with app to change the options and to have the preview of what the camera is shooting. The new one called Yi II (or Yi 4K), can shoot 4K at 30fps with 60Mbps (it's gonna be released this or the next month, pre-order is 249$, but it will probably drop a little bit in price after the official release). It doesn't require the phone app to change the settings (but it can be done, like with the first one), and it has the touchscreen on the back to see the preview and to change the camera options. Do you think it's worth to spend some more $$$ to get the 4K version as a future-proof device? Or maybe you think as for the YouTube materials 2K is enough? Do You have any thoughts? I'll gladly read them all

I was really waiting for to review Redmi Note 3 since the launch event where Xiaomi created a lot of hype. And even the pricing was phenomenal but let’s check whether everything on paper is really true in real life or not. Let’s talk about the good things first. What’s good about Redmi Note 3: 1)Performance: Redmi note 3 is equipped with Snapdragon 650 chipset, which is very powerful and we didn’t experience any lag in daily tasks. Even though it surpasses Antutu benchmark scores of Snapdragon 810, it is not as fast, not that great. Still for a price of 11999, the chipset and the performance that we are getting is commendable. 2)Battery: Battery is one of the best parts about Redmi Note 3. With a huge 4000 mAh battery, we got 1.5 days of usage with average use and with minimal use, we are sure that it will definitely last 2 days. For a heavy user like me, it managed to survive a whole day. … … … … Are you still looking for pros? Sorry, all the pros end here. Unfortunately, Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 has more cons than pros, in almost all aspects except these two. So, Let’s figure out what it is all about. What’s bad about Redmi Note 3: 1)Display: We have seen plenty of 1080P displays with a size of 5.5 inch, like LeEco Le 1s which is awesome. But this panel in the Redmi note 3 looks dull, really dull! The contrast level is very poor and the colour accuracy and vividness are missing. The only good thing is it is sharp, but that doesn’t make it a good display. Simply put, cost cutting is very evident here. 2)Network: We tried almost 5 network carriers with different SIMs, either single or dual, but it was a challenge for us to get a solid signal. Outdoor, we managed to get signal but that too was not that solid and there were interruptions. We updated the latest OTA but even after that we were facing the same issues. We thought that we got some defective piece, so Amazon replaced it within two days in a good manner. But to our surprise, the replaced product we got was made in India and the older one was made in China (weird!). Even after all these hazards, we experienced the same issue with replaced phone also. So it is a hardware defect and it cannot be fixed by software I guess. May be the metal body is preventing signals from being received by the antenna. Beware if you are a business man or a lover who spends a lot of time talking on your phone. 3)Audio Jack: We tried to connect different sets of home theatres and multimedia speakers but all failed. It was not defective as headsets were working perfectly. Both the returned and replaced phones have the same problem. So audiophiles, be very careful before choosing this phone. 4) Camera: 16 MP rear camera is strictly average and mostly an interpolated 13 MP camera. We really suspect that as Xiaomi is not even ready to share the details about the sensor till now. Xiaomi claims it as PDAF, but in all low light situation it focuses on the object very slowly and it is hard to believe it is PDAF. Still we managed to click some good pictures outdoor in bright sunlight. But for all the hype and while considering a 16 MP unit, we are really disappointed. Very bad while considering other 13 MP camera’s that found on other Xiaomi phones. P.S. Out of the box, it is horrible but after the OTA update, it is average. 5)Build Quality: It is a metal device and it is good to hold. But we have seen many metal devices nowadays even with lesser price tag. While comparing to other metal devices (like LeEco Le 1s) this feels really average. The build quality is okay but it doesn’t give a premium look or feel. Anyone can figure it out that it is a budget handset made in metal by looking or holding. Really disappointed with the look and feel. The only good thing is that it is good to hold, I mean the shape. 6)Fingerprint: Fingerprint is good but slow. Sometimes it can’t even detect sweaty fingers and we had to swipe our fingers in cotton cloth to get the sensor recognised. Somewhat useful, but looks like just added for making something extraordinary in paper not in real life. So what’s our word on Redmi note 3? Xiaomi badly needs a win over some companies like LeEco, Lenovo in the 10-12 K price bracket. That made them create a “paper only good smartphone” without proper testing. Yes, it has powerful chipset, excellent battery but that is not enough to give a thumbs up for this device. Almost everything other than these two is bad and Xiaomi needs to concentrate on testing and quality check before releasing one product like this. I suggest you to consider this mobile only for gamers, who doesn’t even use phone to call or capture pictures. 99% of people can say no to Redmi Note 3 as it behaves like a cheap product covered in silk wool. Rating: 5/10 Verdict: Go for some other products at least till Xiaomi resolves these issues.

Xiaomi announces Mi5 at MWC 2016. It packs powerful specs and comes in 3 variants. (only difference is storage and CPU clock speed). Look wise, it's beautiful to look at. Elegant and curvy design at the back. The mobile comes in two editions, The Mi 5 Pro (highend top of the line) with 3D Ceramic Body and Mi 5 (Standard one) with Glass back. Below the screen there is a physical home button, which is also a fingerprint reader. Instead of using eMMC, the Xiaomi Mi 5 can be picked up with up to 128GB of UFS 2.0 memory, which promises significant increases of 80% and more over eMMC 5.0 (think what Samsung did with the Galaxy S6). The Snapdragon 820 chip also supports Quick Charge 3.0. The onboard 4G+ or 4G Advanced is capable of theoretical Cat.12 LTE speeds of up to 600 Mbps. VoLTE is also included. NFC is now also smarter with card virtualization and write mode. The camera setup on the Xiaomi Mi5 is also very impressive at 16MP with an aperture of f/2.0 and 4-axis optical image stabilization, which is a brand new technology as well. The sensor itself is the Sony IMX 298, which comes with phase detection auto focus and deep trench isolation technology. Specifications: 5.15" Full HD 1080p IPS display. Ultra thin bezels. Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 CPU (Dual-core 1.8 GHz & dual-core 1.6 GHz - Standard edition, Dual-core 2.15 GHz & dual-core 1.6 GHz - other editions) - Adreno 530 GPU. Storage - 32GB/64GB with 3GB RAM and 128GB with 4GB RAM. No MicroSD slot. Android OS, v6.0 (Marshmallow) with MIUI 7.0 on top of it. 16MP SONY IMX298 rear facing camera with dual tone LED flash and OIS. 4k Video recording. 4MP front facing camera, capable of 1080p @ 30fps. WiFi 802.11 ac with Bluetooth 4.2. 7.25mm thickness. 3000 mAh battery. USB Type C Connector. Product Images: Camera Samples Promo Video: Xiaomi Mi 5 - OIS "Shake it off" test. Hands on Video - The Verge: Pricing & Availability: The phone will be available starting on March 1st and will be priced at $354 for the high-end 128GB model and $262 for the entry-level 32GB version. The Mi 5 will come in black, white, and gold color options. It will come to China first, followed by India and other markets Xiaomi sells its devices in. basically when you swipe down to get the notifications bar, you then swipe left and it pops out the quick settings, this is annoying as i keep trying to get rid of notifications by swiping left and instead it brings up the quick settings page. can i get rid of this? maybe change it to tap a button instead or just have a quick settings bar on the notifications page? i really want to get rid of the annoying swipe left to get quicksettings up feature. I want to be able to get rid of my notifications by swiping left or right... if not then no worries. its just an annoying feature.

A device named Xiaomi Gemini has showed up on Geekbench, it's almost certainly the Xiaomi Mi 5. The benchmark entry shows that the smartphone is powered by a msm8996 chipset, which is the designation of the Snapdragon 820, it also has 3Gb of RAM and runs Android 6.0 Here's a screenshot of the benchmark: What do you guys think about it?

I'm really into smartwatches /fitness band lately, this Xiaomi Mi Band 1S looks pretty nice. The previous version had a huge success but I never had it, but this one will have a heart-rate sensor and won't cost much more that's why I'm really interested. What do you guys think about it?
