I am unable to connect to the VPN ra4w, at school. The VPN is using openvpn, it also supply's some extra config files for use on restricted networks. But so far nothing has made it possible to connect to the VPN. I used netcat to try to check what ports are open out. The only ones that I checked that was open was 80 and 443. The VPN config files that were for restricted networks used the port 443, but still was unable to work. Any suggestions on how I could make this work?

I've been looking at setting it up so that the home file server we have at home can be accessed from away from the network via a vpn. So I looked at using this guide to set it up on my Debian 8.6 based system. https://www.digitalocean.com/community/tutorials/how-to-set-up-an-openvpn-server-on-debian-8 Well when I finished doing it and tried connecting to the VPN on my mac through Tunnelblick it didn't work. I tried purging all the things I installed (ufw and openvpn) and it still didn't work. When I tried to connect to the vpn through Tunnelblick it would just say "Waiting for server response" and it seems like it's not making a connection to the server. So I have a few questions, would it work if I try connecting to the vpn even if the mac and server are on the same network? And I should be using the public ip address, correct? I'm really just confused as to why this isn't working, and any suggestions as to what might be wrong are greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I have been trying to use a vpn to use my school wifi, but no matter what app it will always time out and not work. It will work at my house though and all the people with iPhones have got it to work so I don't know why my OnePlus 3 can't do it.

Hey guys, I have a really stupid question because I'm a noob when it comes to VPN/Networking. I was wondering, if I have a VPN client running on my PC, and I also have a SOCK5 proxy running on uTorrent from the same provider, would uTorrent go through the SOCK5 proxy, or the OpenVPN client or both? I would like to have the OpenVPN client running system wide, but have uTorrent standalone SOCK5 proxy because the speeds are way better through the proxy. Any info for a noob welcome

I will start off by saying I dont know much about VPN. I came to know about VPN routers and I want one. But my concern is, say I am using a phone and a laptop. While I am using the VPN router wifi, I am secured but when I step outside of my house and use LTE or use public wifi, I am no longer secure. So if I install VPN apps on my laptop and mobile, I will be secure where ever I go, But if I use the VPN app installed laptop and phone in my house with the VPN router, will I be using double VPN? Wont that reduce the internet speed too much?

Russia has banned VPNs and other software that enables users to gain anonymous access to websites. The new law was signed by President Vladimir Putin on Monday and will come into effect on November 1st (via TechCrunch). Leonid Levin, chairman of the Duma's committee on information policy and technology, was quotedby state-run media as saying that the new law is not targeted at "introducing new bans for law-abiding citizens" but aims to prohibit access to illegal content. However, privacy advocates see the law as another way for the Russian government to restrict access to political content that it disagrees with. In 2015, it became mandatory for all user data from Russian citizens to be stored in Russian-based servers, and last year another law was passed making it necessary for internet service providers to retain traffic data for up to a year. Recently the government also threatened to block access to the Telegram encrypted messaging platform unless the company that runs the app provides more information about itself. Elsewhere, virtual private networks took another blow over the weekend, as reports emerged that Apple has removed the majority of VPN apps from the App Store in China, following regulations passed earlier in the year that require such apps to be authorized by the Chinese government. The action was first revealed by ExpressVPN, a provider based outside of China. The company said in a blog post that "all major VPN apps" including its own had been removed from the App Store. The company shared a note from Apple explaining that its app was removed because "it includes content that is illegal in China". A few hours later, Apple issued a statement to TechCrunch explaining its decision to pull the apps from the App Store: Earlier this month, China reportedly started blocking some features of the WhatsApp messaging service, as authorities continued to tighten controls over the country's internet. Via : https://www.macrumors.com/2017/07/31/russia-bans-vpns-apple-pulls-apps-china/ VPN's are illegal in China, and starting on November 1st it'll be illegal to use a VPN in Russia. Apple's hands are tied, they can't do anything about it, it's the law of the land.

Hi guys and gals, I'm just starting my study in I.T. and while I realise that what I am about to ask will be covered at some point; I was wondering if there was any Linus or other YouTuber that has done a video on business VPN servers where the VPN is hosted at the business house. I've looked at a few Server 2012 videos but no one seems to be doing any coverage on commercial VPN solutions. Any pointers would be really appreciated. Thanks, Argetlam

I've got a machine that's connected to VPN (tun0): screenshot On another machine in this LAN I want to add static route like: route add 172.20.127.0 mask 255.255.255.0 192.168.21.125 and be able to access devices in tun0 on another machine. What should I do on the first machine with VPN connection to be able to do that? Thanks!

Hot off the press. So no more Twitter and Gmail for both the Chinese people and foreign tourists by next year. Source: Bloomberg One of the ways as far as I know how the Great firewall of China works is by blocking ports used by VPN providers like OpenVPN protocol that often uses UDP port 1194. Another way to block VPN access is through "deep packet inspection". However, some VPN providers where able to circumvent these blocks by the Chinese government like changing ports [here]. Some VPN providers change ports automatically to TCP port 80 which is the typical unencrypted traffic/HTTP only. Turning off this port means turning off the entire internet in a given area. Another port less likely blocked is TCP port 443 which is used by encrypted traffic/HTTPS. Hence, blocking this port would mean no secure shopping or online banking. [see more from here] So if a foreign businessman is using Google services and visits China, he's pretty much screwed since he cannot use a personal VPN to access Gmail and Hangouts. It's a shame that from a country with faster internet than America, URLs from the west are blocked. I just hope this wouldn't turn out like North Korea with only 25 intranet sites. Would the likes of Tunnelbear or PIA be able to get around the new restrictions, I don't know. This post will be updated once personal VPN providers made their comments. [UPDATE] Apparently, there was no VPN ban at all. Source: Nextshark Here's another one: Source: Technode As it turns out, Bloomberg is once again fake news. Even VPN vendor Express VPN confirmed that there is NO ban of personal VPNs in China. Here's a screenshot. From a Chinese news site: China is not putting up a ban on personal VPNs. Hello All! I've got a great new 4k vizio p-series tv that I am trying to cast content onto. Here's the problem: I use a VPN on the android tablet remote that came with the TV (using IPVANISH & their VPN app). When the VPN is activated, I can no longer control the TV from the tablet. I have seen solutions such as setting up a VPN wifi network from your pc or running the VPN through a router, but with my current hardware neither of these solutions will work for me. Any ideas on how to control the TV while simultaneously running the VPN? Can't figure out for the life of me how to get it to work. Any guess is much appreciated.

I have just moved apartment and in my old place I had a very simple network setup of a modem\router serving wifi for most of our devices and a raspberry pi connected by Ethernet serving as network storage, basic server type stuff and as a box for me to ssh into and just generally play around with. Now in my new apartment building there are a series of wifi hotspots spread out through the building that I have to use for my internet connection with the one closest to me only giving good coverage to about 75% of my apartment. So what I am trying to do is connect into that hotspot (login via captive portal) then share that connection into my own private network set up in a similar way to how I had before, with the aim being to give wifi coverage to my whole apartment and also to be able to host network storage that other people connecting to the hotspot can't see Also as a bonus I wouldn't mind being able to rout all my internet traffic through a VPN Can any of you Network gurus help me or point in the right direction? Any kind of help would be very much appreciated as I am at a total loss

i want to know how i would go about setting up a dual router system where one router acts as any other router does and the other has a vpn. i want to be able to switch back and forth relatively easily depending on what my needs are at the time. also, anything on how to keep my bandwidth up when using a vpn. so how do i physically connect and configure said routers to make this work? i understand that the vpn router must be flashed(DD-WRT, tomato, etc...). but that about as far as i got. i have a netgear r7000p and a netgear r6200v2

I had an old Pi 2 laying around so I turned it into a personal VPN server for me and a couple friends to use. I know it works on a basis where traffic is encrypted however it's only encrypted outside of your local network. I was just wondering if anyones found a way to encrypt your local traffic as well as unblocking certain sites like P2P sharing sites or just sites which arent allowed in my country. I setup the server using this tool. Pretty handy really + easy setup.

Hey guys, I wanna be able to connect to my network and access my servers from anywhere with my laptop and or my girlfriends laptop. So I did some research on this and found I need a router with the capability of doing so. So i bought a Cisco RV320 gigibite dual WAN VPN router. I took my old residential home wifi router out as out this in its place. Set it up correctly "I think" then turned DHCP server off since my DC has the DHCP server on it. And now I can't access ether of my servers and my PC won't even pull an IP address. I tried ipconfig /release and then ipconfig /renew and it won't pull an new IP. Lol and then after I get this figured out I need help setting up the VPN part. System info server 1: dell poweredge 1950 windows server 2012 R2 data center server 2: dell poweredge 2950 windows server 2012 R2 data center my desktop : windows 10 laptop: Lenovo windows 10 NETWORK LAYOUT. from the modem it goes to a switch for things I don't want on my network "like my APEX for my saltwater tank". From that switch goes to the DMZ/WAN port on the new Cisco vpn router, on the LAN ports on the router 1 server 1, 2 server 2, 3 my PC, 4 is empty just has a long Ethernet cable for my laptops and is ment for a wireless access point in the future. Thanks in advance ?

So, I (used to up until today) use Betternet VPN so that I could access blocked sites in college, but today when I loaded up my laptop I had adverts everywhere. I opened Chrome as a guest and they went. So naturally I disabled all extensions and enabled them one by one to find the problem. And to my surprise it was Betternet. If you look at the reviews in the Chrome Web Store everybody seems to be having the same problem so if you have it installed, uninstall it. I don't know whether it was intentional or whether they were hacked but until now they seem to have been reputable.

We are attempting to move our in house server to a hosted on with Rackspace. We are currently running Windows server 2003 which is managing active directory, dhcp, network storage for all client files, and a couple of tax programs. They gave us an awesome price that includes offsite back ups and managing the server maintenance that we were going to have to be paying someone to do anyway if we kept it in house. I had talked to them and they said that it would be no problem to move the active directory to a 2012 server hosted by them. We have a site to site VPN set up and my understanding is that it will show up as just another computer on the network. In talking to the tech guy who installed our new firewall he made a comment about possibly some complications with active directory and dhcp. He said the firewall could host the dhcp but there was a lot of set up to change things. Would it be possible to host the active directory on the hosted server and dhcp on the firewall? Are there any other possible issues with having the server offsite?

So I'm writing this on my desktop at home via remote desktop over vpn (connected to the local ip of my desktop) because I can't get to linustechtips.com or any other website besides google.com and facebook. com on my laptop over the vpn. The vpn is openvpn running on a linux box at home. My phone can open any website while on the vpn, it's just my laptop with issues. My laptop's network setting for the vpn have DNS set to 8.8.8.8 and 4.4.4.4, I have also left it blank and gotten the same issue. I also apparently cannot see file shares on my home network on my laptop. If I open network devices on the laptop, I see nothing. If I open it on my desktop via vpn I see my phone which is also on the vpn, but not my laptop. I have used the vpn before on my laptop without issue, but restarts have not fixed this

Hi, I'm looking for an easy way to reroute game traffic to bypass some school servers. To make this easier I have 3 computers that i'm going to name. Computer inside the school network = "Client" Computer outside the school network = "Node" Computer outside the school network that's blocked = "Host" For more detail here is the can and cants "Client" network I have no control over. "Client" computer is my own computer, So I can install software. Computer is Windows. "Node" network I do have control of but I cant port-forward because of an old router (However there is hamachi, Explained below). "Node" computer is my own computer, So I can install software. Computer is Windows (But can run a VMware machine for Ubuntu if needed). "Host" network I have no control over, However the ports for the game server are open so normal computers outside can connect. "Host" computer is not my own computer, I cant install software. "Client" can connect to "Node" and "Node" can connect to "Host" but "Client" cant connect to "Host" because of the school server (And I checked with my ICT department they cant unblock that connection, Not that's its bad they don't have the access to changing such thing). Between "Client" and "Node" there is a hamachi tunnel (And no I cant put hamachi on "Host"). Is there a way to reroute traffic through "Node" to "Client" so that "Client" can access "Host"? (And again ICT department loves me and said I can do it if I can bypass the servers without breaking them xD)

I got my VPN working on my router and now I'd need to filer out my laptop so it doesn't go trough the VPN service. There is no option in the routers setup page and I've checked online aswell but it seems like nobody got it to work properly. My router is an ASUS RT-AC87U
