Has anyone found a good solution to the problem of terrifyingly fragile USB 3.0 motherboard connectors? I've considered getting a low profile angled one that should allow the thick and janky default header that most cases come with to safely reside in the back. Has anyone tried anything like this out? This janky fragile POS that I've busted or bent pins because of multiple times. This is something I've thought of doing just so I can safely stash the actual connector in the rear and not worry about torquing the heck out of it to get a seamless run. I've had dozens of scenarios over the years where this has been a problem, just never thought to actually fix it.

Both of them sound horrible, but the HDD problem sure is more sensitive Since this forum was helpful to me I decided to post another problem I had lately A while ago I purchased an HDD 2.5 inch SATA Enclosure W/USB 3.0 and I have put an old HDD I had in it to use as external storage but something weird began happening. whenever I plug it in into the USB 3.0 port in my laptop it does certain things 1- Location is not available 2- it access it but it doesn't transfer properly + Device is Unresponsive sometimes -in the image below it started transferring but suddenly stopped and got stuck like this - in this second image it did transfer for a little while but stopped and showed an error code Note :: when I searched the code I found comments about HDD wear out , I'll talk about that later little note : yes this is my music taste lol 3- it access it and it does transfer properly - sometimes it does that at 30+ MB/s Speeds -there is a moment where it did transfer at a 200+ MB/s Speed which was almost instant so I couldn't screenshot it properly , I did try doing that again but it did reach 60+ MB/s in this image It does all three things I mentioned above while getting unplugged and re plugged randomly while connected via the port while making the device unresponsive most of the time I don't know if it is a problem within the HDD Enclosure or the port itself since It clearly does work if I plug my BT mouse dongle and other USB flash drives (I only have 2.0 USBs which is why it is hard to draw a conclusion about the 3.0 issue) Could it be because of my old HDD? and if so why does it work fine on a 2.0 USB port (Edit: when I decided to try a 2.0 port it didn't transfer properly but it didn't unplug itself randomly it was more stable than the 3.0 port but I tried another 2.0 port and it transferred my data so I decided to copy all of it to my device's SSD as a backup) if it is worn out I think it shouldn't work properly on both ports correct me if I'm wrong , I did check its health in crystaldiskinfo & tested it in crystaldiskmark and HD Tune before I bought the Enclosure in the first place , I re-checked it after I transferred my files and these are the results : I would like to know if there's a solution and if my HDD is indeed wearing out and isn't safe to store critical data then I would prefer knowing that and backing up my files elsewhere and/or buy a new one also if the 3.0 port has an issue i would like to fix that so I could transfer files at maximum speeds Thank you for reading and I hope to receive some helpful information

Hello everyone! Turned on my pc today and got the bios message: "Over current have been detected on your USB device!! System will shutdown after 15 seconds to protect your mainboard." Unplugged all usb devices and the problem still happened. After unplugging the USB 3.0 cable from the MB I was surprised by a broken pin (see uploded pic). A single broken USB pin really killed my Motherboard?!?! MB B350m Bazooka Any way to fix this issue?

before buying the Sharkoon tg4 RGB i would like to ask something about the front panel. My case on the front panel has 2 usb 3.0 type A while my motherboard (MSI MAG Z490 TOMAHAWK) only provides 1 usb 3.0 type A header. I'm asking if the case provides a single cable for both 3.0 usb type A to be plugged in to the only usb 3.0 type A header on my motherboard or do I have to buy it separately? thank you

Hello, I seem to be experiencing slow USB file transfer speeds. I have a Dell Inspiron 7586 laptop. It has two USB Type-A 3.0 ports. From what I understand, USB 3.0 is supposed to have a maximum transfer speed of 600 MB/s; however, I seem to be getting a maximum of about 50 MB/s (averages about 25 MB/s). I'm transferring files to/from a SanDisk USB 3.1 Gen 2, 128 GB flash drive. I was wondering if this flash drive is backwards compatible with USB 3.0; if it is, I have no idea what's causing this. I've already tried selecting "better performance" in the device policy settings. This made no difference. If you need further information, please don't hesitate to ask. Any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks for your time!

So recently swapped my old case and power supply for new ones but my case comes with a USB 3.0 20 pin plug; my motherboard doesn't have a USB 3.0 20 pin socket however I've found a USB 3.0 expansion card for PCIE x1 with both USB 3.0 ports and a 20 pin socket. My question is, is PCIE x1 fast enough to take full advantage of USB 3.0 or not?

New Egg and Amazon has tons of USB 3.0 in GB's from 10GB to nearly 1 TB but what is the best price point? In other words. Suppose I buy a USB 3.0 64GB flash drive for $40 but also buy a USB 3.0 128GB for $70? Obviously the $70 is better since per GB it is less money. But how can I quickly do the calculation for dozens or nearly 100 USB Drives? URL for online program to do this for me or? thanks for reading this.

A work critical pc's parts has died and needed replacement, I swapped over almost everything except the hard drive because it has the installs of important programs and databases within it so a reinstall of windows 7 with USB 3.0 drivers baked in is out of the question. Though thru an USB to PS/2 adapted I have gained keyboard input. How can I get this computer up and running from this state? Any points to the right direction will be appreciated!

I downloaded the drivers for my chipset, b450 on the windows 7 hard drive and there is still no input. My keyboard isn’t getting power because the rgb turns on when there is power.

Hi, I'm planning to buy a 2.5 enclosure and put an SSD instead of an HDD in it. I would be using it as just a basic temporary storage, pictures, videos from my phone transferred through OTG for long trips for when my phone storage gets full. Im wondering if it's just fine going with a dramless SSD rather than one with dram for a use case like this. I could get a 480gb dramless ssd for the price of a 250gb ssd with dram which would double my storage for the same price. Thanks!

Ive got a recently bought case with 2-usb 3.0 and 1-usb 2.0 slots at the front. It was working fine for sometime until suddenly I noticed that both 3.0 slots are no longer working for any of my USBs (ive got 3 USBs) and even my phone cannot be read it always says not recognized BUT those usb 3.0 slots are only working for my Cruzer fit 32gb Sandisk USB. Ive tried google but all their issues are USB not working at all, while mine is only working for one USB

Looking for a hub where it has 5+ USB 3.0 ports, would be nice with 1 or 2 USB C, but not a game-breaker. If it needs its own power brick, it needs to have a decent length, since it will be going on a standing desk. Would be great if it could be around the 100$ mark. Edit: Will be used with a desktop

I have an Asus ROG Strix Z370i motherboard. Apparently, when I took my system out of the Thermaltake Core V1 case, and put it into my new Phanteks Evolv iTX TG case, the plastic socket part of my USB 3.0 header ripped off and stuck to the plug of the USB 3.0 front panel cable. The pins are still on the board, and it works just fine if I plug the new cases' cable into it. I'm well past the point of RMA'ing it, I can't be without a system while I wait for the back and forth. And this board is several years old. What should I use to adhere it back onto the PCB? Super glue? RTV? Once I assemble my loop into the system, it'll pretty much stay as-is until I need to upgrade my CPU (8700k), and I'll probably be switching to AMD. But if I ever need to troubleshoot, I don't want to ruin the board by disconnecting the cable and ripping the header off again.

Hi there once again im asking for your help lol, I have a laptop which supports m.2 and a hdd, im running only a ssd for now (240gb) and only have 130 left and I recently found out my laptop does support usb 3.0 but only on 2 ports. My plan: Get a 2.5 inch hdd 1tb Or a 3.5 inch 3tb hdd with a dock for it + power and connect it to the laptop via a usb 3.0 port. My questions are: Will the 3.5 inch hdd be slower than the internal hdd if both will be probs 5400 rpm/ 7200rpm for the 3.5 inch (if im lucky lol). Will the 3.5 inch hdd last less than the internal one since its connected via usb 3.0 whilst still being in a safe place? Will the 3.5 inch hdd work as an external hard to other pc's and be read and used? Thankyou for reading and hopefully you guys can help me out.

Hi there, so I have a new laptop (Asus fx503v i5-7300hq+gtx 1050) uhm I dont know how to explain this but the laptop has no usb 3.0(I think) and has only 1 hdmi, whilst I want to have 2+ monitors and a powered usb 3.0 hub. My plan is: Get a RJ45 splitter https://www.ebay.ie/itm/1-to-2-Port-RJ45-LAN-Network-Ethernet-Connector-Splitter-Extender-Plug-Adapter-J/201616755197?hash=item2ef14b89fd:g:EFMAAOSw-KFXegLl Use one of the ports as a ethernet port lol Use the other port as a usb 3.0 to rj45 which i want to invert to ethernet to usb 3.0 female (https://www.ebay.ie/itm/USB-3-0-to-10-100-1000-Mbps-Gigabit-RJ45-Ethernet-LAN-For-P-Network-V6O5-Ad-Z6D6/114100061288?hash=item1a90e4c468:g:WeAAAOSwSwdeOqQe) Then get a usb 3.0 hub. Then get a usb to hdmi which then I can connect to the 2nd monitor. My questions are: Will this actually work lol. And will I have to get anything else (for example.powered ethernet wires)? On the website it does say it has usb 3.0 on the laptop but the ports are not blue as they are literally in any other laptop that has usb 3.0 and I dont know why but theres no site for the asus fx503v while there is one for the fx503. Thankyou for reading this and please tell me if this'll work lol.

Wondering if it is poosible to bend an internal usb 3.0 cable to hard and break it? I just got an extension for it in my pc and didn't have much room so i had to bend it to make the length right. Just curious if it is possible to break the cable by bending it to hard?

Hi guys, so i'm confused against USB 3.0 and USB 3.1 TYPE-C. USB 3.0 goes into the USB 3.2 internal connector in the motherboard, but where does USB 3.1 TYPE-C goes? Do they go to the same place?

usb adapter Slim USB 3.0 Type A to Type C adapter
MisterTechnik posted a topic in General Discussion
In today's LTT Video I saw an adapter like the one in the picture. I found it so cool, that I started thinking about, is there is something like this but with USB 3, the only thing I found was a USB 3 stick that's kinda slim, but not an type a port to type c adapter. So now the question, is there something like this? -

G'day. recently i got an Oculus Rift s and it was working flawlessly. i just celebrated my 18th birthday so i had some mates over. one of my friends was playing on my brand new rift s and suddenly the screen went black. and now when i try and use it. there is 3 dots (loading ellipses screen) in the display of the headstand. and when i go into my devices in the Oculus software. it says that my rift s is connected via a Usb 2.0 (which it is most definitely not) it was working fine and then just stopped. I've done the restart many times, I've uninstalled Oculus twice, I've restarted the PC many times, I've left my PC for a full day, and I've searched the internet for hours to no solution. Please help... this thing was expensive and I've already bought heaps of games for it.

USB 3.0 on a 3.2 motherboard header
MachineLearning posted a topic in CPUs, Motherboards, and Memory
I know its a terrible waste... But can I connect my cases 3.0 ports to my motherboard 3.2 USB headers? The way I think of it, its only a bottleneck problem, and it will run at 3.0 speeds, not a functional problem though. What do you think?- 1 reply

Hi guys, I'm buying a NAS and my pc has thunderbolt 3 so I am considering getting a NAS which supports thunderbolt 3 to use it as an external drive for gaming. (I know it might be a bit janky, but I want the option to do it) But my question is: Since the HDDs I will use in the NAS only have a transfer speed of 600 mbps and USB 3.0 has a transfer speed of up to 5 gbps, is there any point of buying a more expensive thunderbolt 3 NAS with 40 gb/s over a conventional USB 3.0 NAS if the HDDS will never surpass the USB transfer speed anyways? Thanks.
