How do you prioritize bandwidth to certain programs/apps on Windows 10? Can you set it within Windows 10 or is there a third party software? Thanks specifically Firefox over steam so I can watch Youtube while I download games This is basically a repost of https://linustechtips.com/topic/806344-bandwidth-priority-on-windows-10/ Thank you for any leads :^)

I was having issues with my RGB because every RGB software wanted to control my GSkill Trident RGB, uninstalling the programs didn't fix the issues so I re-installed windows. I seemed to have issues with writing and accessing my 1tb Games SSD in both steam ("missing file privileges" ) and in windows 10 Pro. So I backed it up, reformatted it. Seems to be doing good in windows, however, when I try to install or update a game I still get that "missing file privileges" error. I know i can run it as admin (doing it every time is annoying, and selecting the "Run as administrator" option in compatibility makes that even more annoying windows security check popup happen, as well as steam telling me to stop compatibility mode. This issue has me stumped as I didn't have any issues with the previous install which was over 2 years, and I didn't do anything differently this time round. Anybody know how I can fix this issue?

New to the forum. Over the last two months, I've had this issue to where I download a game on Steam, 5 to 10 minutes into the download, my Network crashes. My Ethernet and WIFI connections are bricked until I unplug my router and plug it back in, restarting the loop. Before two months ago, this was never a problem. I currently am hard plugged into my PC with fiber internet (1GB/1GB), download at 90 to 120 MB/s on Steam. I believe that my ISP is kill-switching my connection due to Steam using 99% of the Network in task manager. I've tried limiting bandwidth on Steam, but it ignores the set parameters. Any programs/settings to fix this? Other solutions I've tried include: disabling my firewall on both windows + my router, QoS, UPnP, Dynamic packet filtering, Resetting my PC. The ethernet controller I'm using is a Realtek PCIe 2.5GbE Family Controller directly plugged into my motherboard (MSI MPG B550 CARBON WIFI) Next week, I should be receiving a new router from my ISP and hopefully fixing the issue. If possible, I'd like to start early discussions to try before my router arrives and, if my router does not fix it, try what you all recommend.

I am currently re-downloading csgo on my hard drive and realized it says I'm downloading at 13-20MB/s, I know this could be because of the steam but I believe it's not, since it said I had a peak of 72MB/s for some reason and usually I download games at 54-57MB/s. Could my hard drive be a bottleneck maybe? edit : I have a 7200 rpm drive.

Summary Steam just put their Steam Deck on the front page of their app. It shows the design in details and features. There are 3 price tiers: - For 420€ you get the Steam Deck itself along with a carrying case and 64GB of eMMC storage. - For 550€ you get a bigger and faster storage 256GB NVMe SSD, an exclusive steam community profile bundle and the carrying case. - For 680€ you get a 512GB NVMe SSD, an anti-glare etched glass, an "exclusive" carrying case which has yet to be revealed, the same steam community profile bundle and an exclusive virtual keyboard theme. It doesn't look like the APU changes with the tiers so raw performance should be similar on all three models, the impact of the different storage solutions has yet to be evaluated. As for the games, your entire steam library will be available to play as long as it supports controller input. Speaking of controllers, let's just hope it doesn't drift this time... There will be a dock available that props up the device and adds additional inputs like a headphone jack, HDMI and DP ports, 1 USB 3.1 and 2 USB 2.0 ports. Orders can already be made for a small 4€ fee and are expected to be shipped starting december 2021 to january 2022. The specific dates are unclear still. Quotes My thoughts Personally I'm not a fan of the front design, although it looks very comfortable compared to the switch, the size bezels is distracting in my opinion. From the back we can see an intake shroud and 4 extra buttons labeled R4, R5, L4 and L5 meant to be pressed with your pinky and ring fingers. I've always like controllers with extra buttons like these so it's nice seeing them implemented in this product. For storage I think the sweet spot for me will be the mid option for 550€ with 256GB as 64GB just seems small, a base model with 128GB of storage for the same price wouldn't have been unreasonable imo. You also can't see any sort of stand built into the Deck so it's a bit disappointing but I'm sure we'll quickly see third party options better than anything Valve could've come up with as we're used to with the DIY market. Can't wait to play Celeste on it. x) In conclusion, it's a device I can't wait to test even if I think the price is a bit high. The display bezels are disappointing imo but I have yet to see it in person so maybe my opinion will change then. Sources https://store.steampowered.com/steamdeck

Anyone else getting this? It pops up when I start Steam, but only from cold boot (it seems) when i restart the PC or Steam it doesnt pop up again. So far I see no issues , but Im not sure i have any "vulkan" games to test. I did update my BIOS recently, swapped out CPUs , that error didnt happen with a 2200G (which I needed to update the BIOS because of a faulty BIOS from MSI) but now appears to happen with a Ryzen 3600, *although* there were also two Steam "updates" one of which was an "update for an update" and I think thats when the error started to pop up, so i dont think its the BIOS update I did and am just wondering if anyone else getting this error "visual c++ runtime error vulkan driver query not enough space"? Its especially strange because I have all visual c++ runtimes under the sun installed, so I shouldn't get any runtime errors, although it might just be specifically to Steam?

I was wondering if anyone who is much smarter than me with tech (most of you) could tell me if there's a way to use my USB tethered phone connection for downloading something on my PC while I use my Ethernet connection and home broadband for gaming? I cant download anything while I'm gaming without it making everything unplayable because the internet is so bad, I get much better speeds on my phone network when I tether to it but the ping is a lot higher and its not as stable, I was hoping to find a way to be able to download a game in the background on my USB tethered connection while I use my ethernet connection to play another game at the same time and not have the internet be so slow that its unplayable. TIA

Hello everyone! I'm currently on an activated copy of Windows 10 2004 and I'm having a lot of network and connectivity issues across the OS in general. Here's a list of issues I'm having and my troubleshooting steps: Initially, I noticed my Windows Store apps were showing the following error whenever I tried to download or update anything: 0x80D02017 I am able to browse the store just fine, but I am unable to download any apps or update any pre-installed apps. Note that I did use the "Change where new apps are saved" setting to my external HDD, however even switching this back to a local drive has no effect To fix this, I tried the commonly working solution by turning off iPv6 options in the Internet adapter options, but this had no effect. I tried the common Windows Defender Firewall exceptions and Services.msc restarts, but this didn't help either I tried to use the sfc /scannow and various netsh commands, but this had no effect I tried using Wi-Fi instead of Ethernet but this had no effect In the end, out of frustration of not being able to utilize my Game Pass subscription, I decided to Reset Windows using the Local Install while Keeping my Files, but this created even more problems Upon resetting my Windows 10, I noticed various new errors come up with third-party apps and Windows Update: The reset had no effect on the Windows Store app error I noticed that Windows Update had the following error code whenever I tried updating to 20H2 update or even my Mixed Reality XR updates: 0x80d05001 I installed the Steam client and cannot even get past the 'Checking for updates' screen on the first boot anymore, as I get the following error: 'Steam needs to be online to update. Please confirm your network connection and try again.' Growing frustrated, I tried to Reset Windows while keeping files and using Cloud Install instead, but it said it could not download Windows and to attempt a local reset instead To circumvent this, I downloaded the refreshwindowstool.exe file only to be told "Connect to the internet to begin" I've begun to notice a common theme across these various issues: Windows seems to think that I am not connected to the internet even though I am posting these issues from the very same computer. I don't want to perform another reset only to have the same issue again, so I am turning to this community for help. I'm on a data cap currently, so I have stopped just short of downloading an .iso copy of Windows and trying a fresh reset. I would appreciate any help that comes my way!

Any help,or im missing arma is wasting more? How much space i can left on c? SSD 240gb

Cant blame my internet because instantly after turning off and on then my download doubles and sometimes quadruples because steam. Get 3MB/s usually because i live in rural part of my country and internets slow, but after an hour or two then it drops to 100-750KB/s until i turn off my pc and turn it back on and its done this for awhile and its annoying.

I just bought a new pc with the specs below: Ryzen 5 3400g Gigabyte a320 120 GB SSD 1TB HDD 8GB RAM When I downloaded a game in Steam and had the SSD as the default folder, the download finished without any issues. When I changed the default folder to my HDD, I kept on getting disk write error in Steam so the download won't finish. And when I get that disk write error or corrupt disk message in Steam, that is when a message from Windows pops up saying "restart to repair driver errors" or "scan drive for errors". When I check the health of my HDD using hard disk sentinel, everything is okay, 100% health, no bad sectors. But the HDD can't be seen in the defrag window. I only get the errors when I set my HDD as the download folder in Steam. I've tried to wipe clean my system and reinstall the OS but it is still the same. For me to be able to download a game from Steam, I first need to have it saved on my SSD, then transfer the install folder to the HDD. But even then, when the game has an update, since it is in the HDD, there are times that the disk write error comes up. I'm not sure whether it is an issue with my hard drive or with Steam. I don't know what to do next. Hope someone is able to tell me what exactly needs to be done.

Hello, I am a bit stressed because of my PC behaving weird after i downloaded the Visualboyadvance to my pc to play Pokemon Fire Red. The main reason im writing this is because of lack of answers on the steam vac forums and guidelines (or more missleading?). I downloaded the Visual Boy ADVANCE from the link provided below and it seemed safe but since my bitdefender subscription had run out i could not check it with the local virus scan. I have an csgo inventory which has some expensive items and especially expensive kniife and i am very scared it can get vac banned due to the wierd behavior my pc is experiencing after i post this i am going to reset my pc and delete everything on it. I have heard from a friend that he has han no issues with this ever but the forums say all sort of different things? Thanks for all the answers they are much appreciated! -Ennis Links: <redacted by staff>

Okay bare with me, My goal is to not having my power hungry Gaming PC running 24/7 but also allow the steam Library to be automatically updated at all times. I'm wondering if anyone has successfully done this, Its only in the idea stages for me so I'm open to all input. How I would accomplish this, I have a UnRaid Server on the network with Plenty of resources to have a Windows VM Running at all times. I would install steam and login on there, Create a Share for both instances of steam to use. Attach the network drive on my Gaming PC and direct the local Steam install to the network drive for all games. Then use either instance to install the games I want to play and just let the VM auto update and set the local instance to never update. Issues I can already see, Performance Issues (Delay loading because of the slower speed compared to the NVMe Drive installed in the gaming computer, also Im wondering if there is a way to use a ramcache to fix this somehow) Location Mapping (Steam doesn't like network storage devices last time I tried to do something like this, I knew of a work around using CMD prompt and magnet links I think back in the day) Game Save Data (I would also like to back these up to the server seeing how I always devlop issues with my windows install. Its a personal issue where I keep messing with things until windows acts weird, so I have reinstalled Windows 32 times now on the same system.) Completely Automated ( I do not want to have to interact to make the process work correctly. I just want to set it and forget it.) I'm not worried about bandwidth, I have great speeds and I would barely notice the bandwidth usage (worse comes to worse I would limit the speeds) I have done some searching but yet to find a solution that would kinda work for my scenario. I'm Interested to see what ideas the community could share and possibly how some of you figured out something similar.

So Suddenly I Couldn't Connect To Social Club And Have Been Using A VPN To Bypass The Problem And Continue Playing. I Could Connect To Rockstar's Website But Not The Social Club Site Or The Launcher. Well Now It's Not Even Working With A VPN, It Says "Update Required" But I Just Installed The Game On Steam. I Have Tried It On Several Computers But I Dont Know Why I Am Having So Much Trouble And Its Just With Rockstar Games. Any Advice Would Be Very Much Appreciated Guys

So I have a workstation with GTX 1080 Ti, Threadripper 1950X, 32 GB RAM and 1TB Nvme SSD running Windows 10. I want to stream games from this workstation to my laptop connected to the local network. I can do this with Steam In home streaming or Rainway. But the problem is this makes the workstation useless as it runs the game on the monitor and cannot be used for any other work. Is there a way to stream games in the background or without displaying game and audio to the monitor so that someone else can use the worksation at the same time to do some browsing or maybe watch a movie?

Heyo, does anyone know how to keep game audio on when you're tabbed out or game window is not currently selected? Asking because I'm streaming and sometimes click outside the game. I'm currently talking about Prey but would like to know a fix for this for any game if possible. Some games don't have the "keep audio when background" option.

So I have been playing Destiny 2 on pc for probably about 7 months now (finally switched over from console), and my system ram usage is only around 2.1 gb out of the 16 gb in my pc (just regular ram not vram). Anyone know if I can increase ram allocation for the game in steam in any way, or any other fixes to this issue? I feel like getting the game use more system ram would help alot, as my cpu and gpu are only getting utilized about 50% because of this. My current setup is a Ryzen 5 3600 @ 4.4ghz all core oc, 16 gb g skill ripjaws V 3600 mhz cl 16, radeon rx 5700 xt, a WD Blue 500 gb nvme ssd (which the game is installed on), and a 1 tb toshiba hard drive. The game runs pretty well most of the time but when I go to certain places like the tower, titan, or parts of tangled shore I can only get about 70 fps compared to the 130+ that I get everywhere else most of the time while playing on high settings. Any info for help would be great, thanks!

Hi! If I have a 100 mbps internet connection, how much data should I be able to download from, for example, Steam? I'm getting around 10 - 12 MB/s download, when my friend says he's paying for the same 100 mbps speed, but his download speed in Steam is between 50 - 60 MB/s.
