  1. I'm in the process of picking parts for my first PC build and I want it to be as silent as possible. So far I've decided to go with Noctua for the CPU cooler but when it comes to the GPUs I don't see many that are marketed as quiet. I've decided to get an RTX 2070 SUPER but the only cards I see that could be quiet are the EVGA XC HYBRID and the MSI GAMING X TRIO. My problem with the Hybrid cooler is I don't know how loud the pump is so I don't know if that will be an issue. And the TRIO seems to be unavailable for purchase although this might change in a month or two when I actually buy the parts. My budget is roughly between $500-$600 USD. Any help figuring out what the quietest and coolest 2070 SUPER within my budget is greatly appreciated.
  2. I'm looking for an air cooler that's silent and at a resonable cost ! that's it
  3. I currently have the stock fans that came with my enthoo pro m acrylic window edition. I can hear a slight hum. I'm looking for 2 intake, and one rear fan (all 140mm). I don't care about aesthetics, don't need RGB, I just want ultra silent fans. Preferably less than $30/fan.
  4. Hi, so I want to upgrade my current system from my HAF XB Evo to a new case to support water cooling. Please don't discuss whether I need water cooling. Here is what I need: ATX / E-ATX case Horizontally aligned Motherboard (I don't want to stress the PCIe Slots) Isolation to make it silent Space for at least 2x360 thick rads intake/exhaust fans pumps/PSU several (3-4) SSDs a Palit GTX 1080 GameRock Corsair RM1000X PSU So far I found the Thermaltake X5 since the X9 is really big. I did not find any good LianLi or CoolerMaster cases for my needs or fractal design for that matter. Is there any good alternative to the Thermaltake X5 ?
  5. Greetings LTT community! I am here to ask you about case recommendations I am building a new PC, probably an AMD for a change (last AMD one was a 64 Athlon eons ago :O) depending of hard reviews of Ryzen, Ryzen MB's and Vega, since Thunderbolt 3 is still very difficult to find and PCIe 4.0 is still ways ago (current MB and processors does not support it, as well as Cannonlake and Coffeelake) and to implement (maybe Icelake/Zen+ & Navi/AfterVolta). My build is something in the line of Ryzen7 1700, AM4 X370, 16/32GB DDR4, Vega10/11, M.2 NVME + 4TB HDD. Not interested on an Blu-ray drive, I prefer air flow. When i looked at the Fractal Design Define C i was hooked! I've been following since the R5 and S, it is compact yet spacey inside, quiet, simple, stylish, lots of cooling options, well you know is Fractal Design. Just one thing... they don't sell it in my country, here is mostly Corsair, Cooler Master, NZXT, Thermaltake, Aerocool... In Win... Pixxo... Enermax? Others are pretty rare (like Be Quiet! is a rare find) So i ask all of you, any recommendations or great picks that are similar to the Fractal Design Define C, Mid-tower, ATX, preferably silent cases, windowed panel is welcome, love to see inside even if it looses a dBa . Thanks in advance!
  6. So i am looking for an very silent cpu cooler, any tips out there? like i need it realy silent, have corsair 400 silent case but still i can hear the cpu cooler
  7. On my 7700k, I was able to reach a max of 5252 MHz at 1.37V stable, but was ridiculously hot. I then opted to go silent by lowering the frequency and voltage down. I am pretty sure I've hit the silicon lottery with a stable OC'd 7700k set to 4.8GHz at 1.120V. I don't have a GPU yet, so I'm using the integrated Intel HD 630, overclocked to a ratio of 28 at 1.4V at 3030MHz. My temps never go above 70C on the CPU, with my fan curve set so my fans never go above 1000 RPM. It is nice and quiet! Have I hit the lottery? Specs: CPU: 7700k at 4.8GHz 1.120V GPU: Intel Graphics HD 630 at 1.4GHz 1.4V Mobo: Asus Maximus Hero IX (z270) CPU AIO: Corsair H100i-v2 at less than 1000RPM Case: NZXT H440 Razer Edition PSU: EVGA Supernova 650W (80+ Gold) RAM: Corsair Dominator Platinum DDR4 3000MHz 32GB (16GB x2) SSD/M.2: Intel 600p Series NVMe 256GB HDD: WD Green 1TB + old drives less than 200GB for Windows recovery/backups What kind of stable frequency and temps are you seeing at 1.2V?
  8. Hi Forum, my 10 year old watercooled 2.8ghz quadcore leaked a year ago and there's something causing bluescreens from the hardware.. It's time to build something new. I once was very good at this stuff, but 10 years of not paying much attention to hardware development.. you need a hell lot of time to get back into it. All of linus' videos helped great there. Thanks Linus & team! For my build I was inspired by wall pcs (google it, plenty there) and this guy who cooled his pc passively, build log here. Now I am ready for a build log: Requirements I made up: On the wall quiet no fans portable for lans (gaming get-togethers, like physically. Is that still a thing with young people?) I like hardware and specs, but in the end it has to look good. If a floppy looks good, I'll put that, so don't complain about hardware not being the best I could get. First I made a render, so you can see where this is going. After that I will post progress on the production of all the parts. That will take some time. I hope to be done by the end of the year. Dimensions are about 160cm to 70cm.
  9. Im looking to upgrade my Thermaltake chaser mark 1 to a be quiet! Silent Base 800 for the rebuilt project. I plan on getting a bequiet dark rock pro 3 on a I7 7700k. What im interested in is a case thats silent like the one i plan on useing but im curious on what suggestions people have for a silent case. (also looking to the dark base proo 900 but i doubt ill get that) Edit : Looking for a case in the silent base 800 price range
  10. I'm thinking about building a new pc because the one i have now is so bulky and crazy loud, but im not too familiar with all the different cases out there. Im looking for a case that's preferably an ITX case but an mATX case would do aswell and i needs it to have some sort of soundproofing of some sort.. Maybe someone with abit more knowledge in this area could give me a few case tips ?
  11. I am thinking to build new PC in near future. My goal is to have my PC as quiet as possible. Im trying to find MOST SILENT CASES out there in 2016/2017, price and types doesn't matter just really trying to find most silent PC cases. !!!!!Please!!!!!- do not comment about LOOKS or FEATURES and do not guess because there are plenty of silent pc cases and im looking really for the most silent ones I would really appropriate comments based on technical information or someone who had lots of experiences with different cases. Again silence is most important, so if anyone is searching for similar information they would not have to read your opinions on looks and features And do not recommend how to optimise PC build I will have a different forum for that. Thank you all of you
  12. Hi guys. I am new to water cooling as I haven't done this before so I thought I might ask some of your opinions on this forum. My current PC: i7 6700k cooler by a beQuite DarkRock 3, MSI Gaming X 1080ti, Maximus 8 Hero, 16GB RAM, beQuite PSU, WD 2TB HDD and 1 SSD everything encased in a Fractal Define C having as fans 3 Noctua fans for cooling. My system is quiet when running at idle, but when starting to game, it gets a bit loud for my liking. Most of the noise comes from the 1080ti, which really gets around 77 degrees while the CPU stays at 64 during gaming. My case it's quite small and there is not a lot of room for heat dissipation. Because of the noise while gaming and the high temperatures, I was thinking to go water cooling. The goal is to have a system that is just a quite as now at idle and under load. So most of my components will be based around quietness. One loop CPU + GPU, 360mm rad, pump, reservoir and because i'm a noob i'll stay with flexible tubing. Obviously I would need to change my case to a Fractal Define S if I want to fit a rad that would be able to cool the CPU and GPU, even tough I quite like the size of the Define C. So maybe you guys can advise me with the rad for my define C. At the moment I found this one, but still looking. http://www.xtremerigs.net/2015/02/11/hardwarelabs-nemesis-360-gts-radiator-review/ In the review the rad seemed to do a decent job when running fans at low speed. As for the pump I am looking for one of the most silent one out there. Just looking around in the past days I came acrose this one: Alphacool Eispumpe VPP755. Read here that is a quite pump: http://www.xtremerigs.net/2016/10/31/alphacool-eispumpe-vpp755-pump-review/4/ Maybe you guys know a better one that would fit the quite build that I am looking for. For the reservoir not sure yet. As for the fans still looking for some silent ones. For the GPU I would go for a water block, so I would need to replace my MSI gaming x for a reference design. Can I achive my silent ring starting with this components? What would you go for if you would go for a silent system and put temperatures second. Let the ideas flow.
  13. It has been a while, since I made one of these. Around 4 years to be exact. Well, after Upgrading from the 750K to an 860K, a dead motherboard, to the RX 480, finally Ryzen was there. As i refused to buy Intel, I had to make due, what AMD had to offer. AM3+ was a dead plattform, pretty much every new feature had to be added with extra chips by the motherboard and i didn't want to deal with any of that. So i had to "limp along" for quite some time now in terms of power. Still - FM2+ was energy efficient, the 860K @ 4,4 GHz did have decent enough power (around an i5-4460) , so that most of the time the GPU Limit at 1440p was the "problem". I've been a Linux user for quite some time now (~ 6 years) and with Metro: Last Light Redux was the first game i only played on Linux. But OpenGL is a huge power hog and while it was still playable at ~ 30-40 FPS, the "new" Hitman came along and wanted even more. My main Windows was 8.1 (and still is with Ryzen), since i quite like it. IMHO it offers the best blend out of Windows 10's power and Windows 7's Design philosophy and it can even look exactly like Windows 7. I only had Windows 10 on a spare 60 GB SSD to at least be "in the loop" - working in IT-Support this is quite important. But, i finally had a reason to try DirectX12, and i was actually amazed how good it was. But then, i wanted to try something else, so i got Doom and tried Vulkan. Under Linux. And holy crap, solid 60 FPS. Unfortunately I don't really like Doom. The only reason to have kept Windows 8.1 was Elite Dangerous, because you can't get the Luancher to work (DirectX/Graphics are fine...game itself launches, but complains). So all in all, there was no urgent need to upgrade. But - i digress. This was in January, fast forward to last week, I finally got the package. So let's get the old stuff out... Ah, damn, i knew it...that explains the rising temperatures over the last few months. Was suspecting something like that, but too lazy to check Looks nearly the same...(sorry for the strange position i was taking the photo in...was pretty excited and slammed that thing in there...) Oh, so is that why Ryzen doesn't overclock that well...? Wasn't sure about that logo at first, but i'm starting to like it. Thermalrights mounting kit took almost 4 weeks to arrive... But i have to say, i'm not really happy with the build quality for around 110 bucks. That old ASUS A88X-Pro did cost ~ 20 less and was so much better build, it's a shame ASUS didn't have a "good enough" B350 Board in that price range... (Yes, that S-ATA port is croocked and yes, it still works, but it looks not very good inside the case...but cable management is another topic in itself...) Also, the CHA_FAN Headers are placed pretty idiotic. (ASUS) (ASROCK) After some tinkering, 3 Bios Updates and some more tinkering, the sad thing is: I can't get my Ram working with anything above 2400 MHz. Even upping voltages on the memory controler doesn't work. (Let alone the fact, that the settings in the UEFI are extremely basic for the voltages, while others have settings i can't even begin to grasp - taking screenshots of the BIOS also does not work, so i'm sorry for the crappy quality) At least overclocking worked - and it actually works pretty good with C-States, so i don't loose any powersaving features. 4.175 GHz...! Not bad at all... However, it still is only Air-Cooling and AMD recommends 1,45VCore max. for 24/7 and ~89°C tcl is too much for my taste. So i dialed it back a bit to 3,95 GHz. 71°C tcl max. and 61°C on the CPUTIN is absolutely fine with me, especially considering, that this all is inside a silent case, with not that good airflow and it still is pretty quite. (Around 43 dB while all fans running at max., around 25-27 dB in Idle) Also, Power Consumption is pretty fantastic: Non-AVX, Full-Load, OCed to 3,95 GHz (AVX is ~ 200 Watts): Stock Non-AVX, Full-Load: Idle (bare in mind, i've got 2 HDDs and 3 SSDs, as well as some USB Devices connected): Gaming(on Linux - on Windows it's about 25 Watts more, since the RX480 is running@1400 MHz): And while were at it, some Benchmarks: 860K R5 1600@3,95 GHz Metro 2033 Redux on Linux (Test1 is the 860K, 1440p, everything maxed): Unfortunately i only have RAW-Data for Hitman on Linux (1440p, Ultra, no AA): 860K: Min.: 7 FPS, Max.: 46 FPS, AVG.: 27 FPS R5 1600: Min.: 5 FPS, Max.: 173, AVG.: 57 FPS That Minimum is one loading stutter on the very first few frames on the Benchmark - after that it runs absolutely smooth. I guess this has to do with loading it from the HDD, not the SSD. The funny thing though is: DX11 on a "fresh" (but very customized) Windows 10 install gives me less FPS, both in Max. and AVG. DX12 is around 10 FPS faster in AVG and get's up to 200 FPS on some parts. So...Linux bad for Gaming...? I don't think so. Oh: And the GPU is at 1400 MHz on Windows... So, all in all i'm very happy with the Performance. I do hope i'll get the Ram up to at least 2933 MHz with a newer Bios (the last one is a Beta Bios from the 10th. of April) and i have to do something about those Ketchup Cables and Cable Management all around. Unfortunately, that isn't easy with the Board-Layout and how the Cables are routed in the Case. I may need to get a different PSU Looks pretty sad, doesn't it? PS: Sorry for the crappy Picture Quality. I've been meaning to use my DSLR, but I was so excited, I totally forgot to charge the battery...and i couldn't wait any longer Edit: Parts-List CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 1600 3.2GHz 6-Core Processor CPU Cooler: Thermalright HR-02 Rev.A(BW) 73.6 CFM CPU Cooler Motherboard: ASRock AB350 Pro4 ATX AM4 Motherboard Memory: G.Skill Aegis 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-3000 Memory (That's the wrong Link - apparently the 3000 MHz Kit isn't available in the U.S.) Storage: Samsung 850 EVO-Series 120GB 2.5" Solid State Drive Storage: OCZ Vertex 3 240GB 2.5" Solid State Drive Storage: INTENSO ELITE1207041170 60 GB 2.5" Solid State Drive Storage: Western Digital Caviar Green 1TB 3.5" 5400RPM Internal Hard Drive Storage: Seagate Desktop HDD 4TB 3.5" 5900RPM Internal Hard Drive Video Card: MSI Radeon RX 480 8GB ARMOR 8G OC Video Card Case: Cooler Master Silencio 650 ATX Mid Tower Case Power Supply: FSP Group 400W 80+ Gold Certified ATX Power Supply Optical Drive: Samsung SH-B123L/RSBP Blu-Ray Reader, DVD/CD Writer Monitor: Acer K272HUL Ebmidpx 27.0" 2560x1440 60Hz Monitor
  14. Hey all, Recently got a Cryorig R1 Universal. It's big, beautiful, and cools wonderfully. Only problem is It has two fans, along with the case fan that's so close it may as well be a third fan for the heatsink (it's plugged into the CPU_OPT header, the R1's fans are on the main CPU header using a PWM splitter). This can get loud with a 4790k @ 4.7GHz. My question is, if I underclock my CPU to maybe 3.5GHz @ 1.0V, could I get away with removing the two fans altogether? Or at least the case fan one one fan from the cooler. I know the underclock works well because I had to use it when my AC went out. It sits under 60C at load with a 212 EVO. What do you think? I'm not entirely set on doing this yet since I like high clock speeds, but with a 4790k, it doesn't make much difference.
  15. I am interested in running my i7-7700K at very low voltage until I am able to perform a delid. Anyone have experience with underclocking and undervolting Kaby Lake CPUs? I am able to have a ROCK SOLID 4GHz @ 1.0V Manual & 1.0V Standby. What kind of clocks can you get with 1.0V? What is the lowest stable voltage you can get at stock frequency? This is with no AVX offset. I have achieved this while overclocking the integrated graphics (HD630) to a ratio of 28 with an offset of +.4V. This allows me to get 1400MHz on the integrated graphics. At 100%, the IGPU reaches max of 75C.
  16. Source: http://www.tweaktown.com/reviews/8160/calyos-nsg-s0-100-silent-fanless-gaming-pc-review/index.html I haven't seen a review of this anywhere else, I assume Linus is working on something. For those wondering this seems to be a new design from the one that Linus reviewed, the footprint looks to have been reduced and the PSU mount integrated into the case. For now here's a quick summary of the TweakTown review: n.b. The config tested is slightly out of date compared to the Kickstarter Specs as tested: i7 6700K (stock) MSI Z170X SLI Plus motherboard GTX 1080 (stock) 16GB (2x8GB) 3000MHz TridentZ (stock 2133MHz) 250GB Samsung 850 EVO No mention of PSU Performance: Performs like you'd expect a 6700K and a 1080 system to perform. No throttling even under Intel Burn Test and Furmark combined load. Thermals (What matters): Oddities: Thoughts: Looks promising. This is apparently a Kickstarter product kit; it can be bought either configured or just as a chassis. The render looks pretty slick compared to the very prototype-y unit reviewed. Euro 479 Super Early Bird - Case only Euro 1799 for the cheapest config with i3-7100 and GTX 1060
  17. Hi everyone, I currently have a PC with the following specs that I am looking to upgrade, mainly because I want to switch from AMD to Intel CPU. AMD FX 8150 8 Core CPU (3.6 GHz) Corsair H60 AIO closed loop cooler 16GB Corsair XMS3 DDR3 RAM EVGA Nvidia GTX 960 GPU 120 GB Kingston SSD 500GB 2.5" Hard drive (left over from old laptop) 1TB 3.5" Hard Drive Corsair RM 650 Power Supply Corsair Carbide 400Q case My fans are just what came with my case and CPU Cooler, so they are cheap corsair ones. I have a basic idea of what I want to do with my system. I'd like to get a 500GB m.2 SSD to replace the 120GB SSD and 500GB hard drive (running all my programs on a separate hard drive is annoying) I'm not sure if this is possible, but use my existing 120GB SSD as a cache for my 1TB (possible capacity upgrade on this) hard drive. Change my CPU from AMD to Intel (I have already bought a Skylake i7-6700K, LGA1151 socket) Optimise my PC for quiet operation, even under load, this may mean switching to an air cooling CPU setup, as my CPU cooler pump is very loud. Replace my case as the cable management in this case is awful I may also overclock the CPU, but being a novice at this, this will be the last thing I would do. My PC is going to be used for PC gaming, running a VM server (local web development server, so this will not be always running, only while working) and music production. So what I'm looking for is recommendations for replacement parts for me to do the above things, I will leave the budget open, as I am more interested in getting exactly what I'm looking for, rather than value for money. If there is anything else I have missed you'd need to know, let me know and I will update this thread. Thank you in advance! Mikey
  18. Could yous please suggest some reliable PSUs between 600 - 700W needs to be as quiet as possible and under $120 Thanks
  19. Hello! First of all thank you guys for helping!! Im currently looking to build a new computer (ryzen for the price and specs) My computer is very old this are the spects AMD FX 4170 QUAD CORE 4.21 GHZ Windows 7 8 GB DDR3 VENGANCE 2333 (i think) Asus ROG Formula V A super old hard drive and a SSD of 128 for windows On a super noise Cooler Master Razer Case (so hot it about to take off by the noise it makes) The things im looking for on my new build are: RYZEN CHIPSET + ITX MOTHERBOARD: Im looking for something that runs the Following Games And Programs at the best way possible Counter Strike Global Offensive / Hearthstone / Dota / Sonic All Stars Racing Transform Adobe Photoshop / Illustrator / inDesign / Premiere RAM 8/16GBS (i read that 3,000 mhz ram is needed not sure if its true) ITX CASE (my eyes are on nzxt manta / nano s) I would like the motherboard to have at least one m.2 harddrive to run my windows 7 (if its possible if not windows 10 will be (sad face) And 2 SSD (128 gbs each at max) (One for my programs and small videogames) and the second for photos and music. Im not looking for a High End PC, just a good mid-low budget pc that can run the programs and games i use. Im a casual gamer & casual designer. A most have on any case, chipset is a SILENT PC (compared to jet im owning right now) Please Help me Tell me the way you would build a pc just for this things, hopefully with a 3.1 or the new usb c thing for future stuff to come. Thank you guys. =)
  20. So I really love streaming, it's an amazing way to meet some cool people and share what you love. Only problem is I don't really have the optimum setup for it. My current PC is great but just a taddd... jet engine like. It's served me well, however I always groan at the loud noise when i'm recording, embarrassed of the poor audio quality, though it's all I have. I am also getting more and more into 3d game development and my 980ti is fine for this as right now I haven't delved too far into the world of vr creation or anything of that sort. Anyways, what I want is a silent workstation PC built from my current rig. Here is the basics of what I have now: A i76700k on a 280mm liquid cooler, and a EVGA 980ti Hybrid. It's pretty noisy. So I want to make it quieter while not completely breaking the budget, at least not right now. Heres my current plan: - Swap the case for a Fractal Define S with no window side panel. - Swap the cooler for a Noctua NH-D15 - (In the future switch to a workstation wx7100 card and a ryzen 1700-1800x) My main concerns is how to set the system up for optimum cooling while being silent as possible. I'm looking for help from any fellow workstation users or fractal s owners. My original Idea (and i'll try to illustrate this as best as possible), is to have the nh-d15 facing downwards with both fans going vertically, then having the exhaust in the back pulling air. I don't know if this is really a good setup but I heard from another forum it worked well. Problem is I own some very tall ram, 32gb of it, which I would prefer not to just throw away. It's Corsair Dominator Platinum. I heard even with the heatsinks removed they are still rather large. Any help with that? Would mounting the cooler vertically leave any room? The other thing is my 980ti hybrid, should I mount it's cooler in front? I don't know if there would be much room with it in the back exhaust for the cooler. Thanks for any help anyone can give.
  21. I'm looking for a CPU cooler (fan+heat sink - no water cooling for me) that will turn of at idle temperatures with a 7700K installed (no overclocking). Much like the MSI 1060 3-GB gaming x does. BTW, one of those will also be in the case, whipping some hot air around. I'm going for a silent PC here. Ideally all fans will run at load, and the both the GPU and CPU fans should turn off at low load.
  22. Hello everyone, A friend of mine asked me to help him for his first computer build. Beeing a music guy that is really into Macintosh when it comes to song software, he wants a computer where he can use his Mac software for music, and the Win10 side for gaming. The only thing he mentionned was the need for it to be as silent as possible for any recordings close to his future computer case and he also told me he could use as much as 1200€ for it (let's say around the same in $) Do you guys have any ideas about what parts would fit together nicely for this budget ? Feel free to give me your thoughts and ideas. I personnaly feel quite interested in Ryzen from AMD but I don't know how much compatibility there is regarding hackintosh builds with AMD cpus. Thanks in advance.
  23. Title says it all. I want them for front intake, and I was thinking something along the line of the thermaltake riing, but I would like it to be less than 20Db. It's for aesthetics, and if anything can't be found, then I'll probably go with some noctua NF P14r, or some Be quiet fans to match with the CPU cooler. PS: I don't need RGB- it's not a rave party it's a PC. I'm going with red LEDs
  24. Is it possible to make a nearly silent gaming PC cheaply? I wanted cool my PC with evaporation, then I saw Bong Cooling but I found it is too loud and unreliable. So could I make it better? I figured out the water can't fall from more than 5cm (2') and water area must be as big as possible. First I wanted to make a waterfall but I would need a high performance, loud and expensive water pump and wide tubings. Then i figured out the water must be standing. And my solution: And it costed 100zł=25$! Pump, tubing, water blocks and metal clips It can cool most powerfull non-sli PC! I've been using it for a week and it works. I can't even hear it. I'm so happy, I think I'm first who did something like this! Sources: some of my calculations are based on Engineeringtoolbox.com and my sister made me that painting Older ver.: Edit: And if somebody wonders how CPU can be cooler than water temperature. I've measured temp. in the highest box (right after end of the loop), and the pump is on the bottom so it sucks water of lower temp. Also CPU is first in the loop so it gets colder water, GPU water already heated by CPU Some mistakes I've made and you really shouldn't:
