Been watching Linus for more than 10 years now and boy has that whole entity evolved throughout time... Just wanted to share my appreciation for what Linus and the whole company at this point is doing since It has been extremely helpful in my life so far. I've always been interested in computers but despite following a tech-oriented educational path I never really got into places where they would teach us anything really. So it was me, my spare time and a couple of local tech enthusiasts just figuring it all out. Then I got my access to internet and everything got way easier lol. When I found Linus on youtube I already had a basic grasp on most fundamental topics but it was very shallow with a lot of holes and partially misunderstood. With the help of numerous LTT videos (watched literally everything back then) in the span of 7-8 years I learned A LOT while also being entertained. Following my university graduation (did electrical engineering) and obtaining a couple of certificates from online courses and mostly carried by my passion and the things I've learned and done on my own at home throughout the years I landed a junior system administrator job position at a leading local tech company. Fast forward 2 years I'm now administrating quite an infrastructure and working on many diverse projects. I believe I owe Linus and the whole team a big THANK YOU for educating me while being very entertaining all these years and most importantly for keeping that spark which is very essential to one's desire to learn and improve and seek new adventures instead of being scared of change. Would be interested in reading your stories of how LTT was part of your career path and how they've influenced you and your life! Thank you!

Hi^^. This question will be on the longer side, so no bad feelings for anyone skipping this one. It also will be pretty general in topic, hence posting it here. I am a german computer science student, with a main personal focus on software development as well as algorithmic and management topics. I am pretty confident in anything code related and fairly certain of what I am doing in for example linux server management, but I lack in knowledge and understanding in anything hardware. In my studies we touch on anything briefly, so I have a rather rough overview on hardware related topics. However, this overview takes place on the logical layer of things, building CPU components with logic gates for example, which did not gave me much. Personally I know my way around a PC, I know which components are needed and which do what in a general sense (by watching this much LTT, it would be shameful not to:D), but I want to know more. I should define what I mean with "hardware" specifically. In my sense it begins, with electricity. How does it work really (I was not the best physics student in high school, so I lack the basics)? How does current and voltage and all that work together and how does it work inside the components? Components being resistors or capacitors or anything on a PCB (How do they work?). How do I build an integrated circuit or a circuit in general using these smallest building blocks? How do they compose greater components like GPUs or CPUs or a motherboard? How do those components communicate and work together? What is PCIe and how does it work? What is RAM on a technical level? How does persistent storage work? How do I distinguish CPUs, GPUs etc. and their capabilities on this level? How does a screen work, LCD, QLED etc.? And much more, just to give you an understanding of what I am after. I know that this does not narrow it down much and that many people study for many years to understand all of that. But because this all is such a vast and confusing topic complex, I really do not know where and how to start. So what I ask of you is to possibly push me in the right direction, so that I can have a starting point and learn the basics and more general things and then maybe get myself (or with your help also) around the more specialized topics once I know more. Do you have any books you could recommend(english is fine)? Or videos? Or articles? Books would be best I think in conjunction with any kind of other media to gain a greater understanding, but I am happy with anything you could provide me with. This is probably a bit confusing and vast in topic and unfitting for this forum, but I did not know where else to ask. I am a perfectionist at heart and I want to understand anything in its completion when I laid my interest upon it. I know it's not possible to know anything, but I be damned if I not at least try in my beloved topic of computer science. I want to thank anyone, who took the time out of their day to read all of this and maybe even provide me an answer of any kind. No matter what, have a nice day Emzor_

I'm curious if there is an updated set of resources to learning/advancing in Clojure since the last time that I looked for such a thing. I've been using the mid-2010s resources on it mostly (i.e. Clojure for the Brave and True and the like). Anyone have a more refreshed list on the latest and greatest in Clojure resources?

I bought a known dead GPU on the cheap in order to tinker and learn, but I am needing some insight into what I should do to attempt a fix. The card is an XFX RX 570 (photos added) I chucked it into my test PC ASUS X370 pro Generic 4GB RAM x2 (Pentax I think, probably wrong on this) AMD A10-8870E EVGA 750 G+ PSU The GPU in, 8 pin connected I get no fans, no GPU output, no GPU listed in device manager, DDU used, and still no RX 570 in device manager. The iGPU is working and listed, the 570 has an LED light by the power connection that is blue when plugged in and red when the 8-pin power is removed while it’s sitting in the slot. I disassembled the card, cleaned it, and tested the fuses, which were all good, there seemed to be continuity from the 8-pin 12v and PCI 12v pins, and none of the components on the PCB look to be fried or damaged. I tried the plug it in and fire it up and feel the card for the warm components test, and there was no noticeable change in temperature on the die or other components that I could notice. So I am at the end of my knowledge of what should I try next if there are any other steps, so if anyone has any ideas or knowledge to teach me I’d be greatly appreciative. Thanks, Tim

Over the last few years I've become decently versed in javascript, specifically in nodejs. Ive been considering learning C++ as a next step but is it worth it? What advantages (other than speed) does it have?

Hello guys, I'm in a bit of a conundrum, I am in the process of getting hired to offer technical support for a company that mostly works with Mac computers. The problem is that I have never touched a Mac in my life and I really need to learn about it. So, my questions to you are: Is there any comprehensive guide to learning the ins and outs of MacOS? Also is there any way to create a virtual machine in either Linux or Windows so I can actually use the OS (I learn best by actually using the software opposed to reading about it)? Is there any way I can make a Hackintosh with my specs? My PC specs are as follows: - GIGABYTE B450 AORUS ELITE - AMD Ryzen 5 3600 - SSD ADATA XPG Gammix S11 Pro 512GB PCI Express 3.0 x4 M.2 2280 - Sapphire Radeon RX 5700 XT PULSE - HyperX Predator Black 16GB DDR4 3200MHz CL16 Dual Channel Kit

So I'm learning python on the w3schools website between my part time jobs and there are some questions I have about certain things, for clarification. So I completed the syntax chapter on w3schools and codeacademy (im using both to better understand concepts from different perspectives). I was doing some fooling around and it was fun i have a question though. Why is this printing 2 texts? is it that i NEED another line? # This code will cure covid-19 and save the world """ # I hope this works for multiline commenting, I'm not sure if it will but I really do hope it does. It could save the world! Why would a comment be this long anyways """ Atk = 10 Def = 50 HP = 100 Dmg = HP - (Atk - Def) if Dmg < 1: print("Weakness... you have failed!") if Dmg > 1 < 99: print("So you have worth...") if Dmg > 100: print("Nu- NUUUU~ haha I died NUUUUU~")

Hey guys, I want some educational advice over whether I should choose Python or MySQL and PHP as my specialization in the course I'm doing next year. The reason why I'm asking is because out of the 2 main tracks that are offered in the course (Web Dev or Software/Mobile Dev), I'm going with Web Dev and I'm unsure as to which specialization would help me more and be more worthwhile for doing web development in future? Thanks in advance for the advice! Hey guys, so I've been hearing a lot of people lately saying that AMD is better than Intel/Nvidia (depends if it's graphics or cpu that's mainly talked about) or just general hype about it. So I wanna learn about why it's so popular and what about AMD stands out nowadays? (I'm not asking this to cause arguments or anything, I'm honestly just trying to learn more about AMD)

Hello guys! As you can read it in the title i want to buy a laptop for myself, mostly gaming and taking notes in university. So mostly i looking for a portable, but powerful machine (obviously I don't want to use it for heavy workload while on the go). I am going to learn electrical engineering, so I will mostly use it for programming. In terms of gaming I play Paradox games (mostly eu4 and hoi4), which needs a lot of cpu power and I really want to play Cyberpunk when it comes out. I was thinking about the ASUS ROG Zephyrus G14 (GA401lU, the one with Ryzen 7, GTX 1660 Ti, 1000 GB storage and 16GB of ram), buut it's kinda expensive. So if you have any suggestions for me, or even any tips about what to watch for, please share with me, I would be really glad. Do you think the G14 is too overkill for my purposes? I'm looking forward for you responses! DjMaster

Source: https://cybernews.com/security/data-suggests-unprecedented-interest-in-cybercrime-during-pandemic/ This isn't that surprising, considering that unemployment soared this year. Though I'm hoping that most people are interested in white hat hacking, as there is plenty of money to be made there as well.

Next semester is my senior year of high school. In one of my classes we will be leaving JavaScript. I thought I would spend my summer learning some basic JavaScript so that I have a good starting point. I am a relative novice when it comes to coding. I have some basic knowlage with html, php and css. What is the best way for me to start learning JavaScript?

Hello Crew! I’m Phobia, I stream on twitch and I own a prebuilt pc. After having it for years I want to get into PC building and also stream myself building different gaming PC‘s. I wanted to ask you guys on advice. I bet a lot of you will tell me to dive in on a build to learn. But I want to know if Any if you know of a really really cheap build or if there is a kit that is specifically for people to build a dummy/cheap pc. something I can build to learn and gain confidence before I start building with some expensive parts. Please don’t hesitate to comment on the form. < content removed by staff > Thanks

Hi everyone, I'm trying to assist my department at my university to setup a solid platform to deliver decent online classes. These classes are NEVER online and need to meet a few requirements: 1) FREE (we cant afford anything else after textbooks) 2) Can hold at least 20-25 people 3) User friendly (my department are NOT techies...) -OPTIONAL- ~ can be accessed with our phones. We have Zoom currently, but it has given us some problems. Any information would be extremely helpful and appreciated!

Good evening at the time that I am writing this I am following through a VM Lab for the A+ cert course in my home town I am familiar w/ most things computer but have neglected the programing aspect of PC. the problem I am facing at this time is understanding why things are being added that are not in the directory (the "help" sheet that pops up when your in the cmd window). Anyways i understand some of it like /s /h are for showing the hidden files, etc; xcopy c:\drivename\* l:\data\ /s /e /y . the line above is the one I am trying to understand better I comprehend that I wont become knowledgeable of this type of system overnight but i believe that reaching out to this community would be helpful in getting me there i understand that it copies data/files/etc to a folder and saves it in the "l" drive in this case, i simply dont understand where the system pulled the /s /e /y from or what they stand for individually when being used under other commands anyways please let me know if you have seen this before or know/understand the concept behind this stuff I am just trying to get knowledgable.

Hey! Very new here, and trying to get a good footing in the PC world before I start asking for much help with builds. I have seen many cool things done with PCs, and it would beneficial to have the knowledge for my field of work eventually, as well as a hobby and for gaming eventually. I want to get into a bit of everything with PCs (coding, building, hardware, sleepers..etc). I want to learn about building PCs, what the specs mean and how to compare them, as well as how to build a best "Bang for Buck" PC. I am hoping for some input on areas to learn, how did everyone else learn and get into it, any resources for learning, and any good initial tips when starting to look for information. This is hopefully to give me a direction to look when learning, and not believing EVERYTHING I read on the internet lol. Thank you!

I've been watching ltt and other tech channels for like 3 or 4 years now and I still just feel like I haven't learned enough about hardware and everything, and I do want to learn more about it Is there some way to know more about it? Where do you suggest to start?

Firstly, thanks Luke and Linus for sending me here. So, I've built a new setup: CPU: AMD EPYC 7401P MOBO: GIGABYTE MZ31-AR0 GPUS: 5 x Nvidia GTX 1080 RAM: 64GB DDR4 ECC (2333Mhz) STORAGE: 4 x 480GB Kingston SSD PSU: EVGA Supernova P2 80+ Platinum 1600W (the computer 100% theoretical load should be 1300-1400w [did not managed to test it, problem explained below]) UPS: CyberPower PR2200LCDRT2U ( I wouldn't run this computer without it, it costed too much to trust wall electricity) Software: Storage is in RAID 0 for speed. I'm using Proxmox (linux + qemu) in order to virtualize the computer. I'm using Ubuntu 18.04 Server (the one with terminal setup, not with graphical setup) + CUDA drivers in order to be able to run Tensorflow on it. Speed: Blender Rendering (one frame): Mac Book Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2014) 2.2Ghz: 11 minutes and 13 seconds Ubuntu(virtualized, 32cores): 2 minutes and 4 seconds Ubuntu(virtualized, cuda 4X gpu): 1 minute and 46 seconds Current problems: TLDR: I suck at setting the passthrough, since this is my first beast of a server, and had no experience with "board management control", virtualization, qemu and iommu groups, also i've learned how to properly set up a UPS with Proxmox so in case of power loss, the system will properly shut down. I'm able to virtualize 4 out of 5 GPUs because, I still didn't figure out how to properly set the virtual instance's pci bus, because activating the 5th gpu, makes the virtual network show as present but won't work. Past problems: Fitting 5 GPUs on that motherboard is not feasible, so the only way is with extensions. I've modified a Rosewill server case to make it be able to handle as many GPUs as the board can handle (logically) Anyway here's the juicy footage: I have a series made on youtube for it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0S8pEEBmIes&list=PLOFkZ9MQr4DWjY4V3ertyAB7SKukZ6dEf (not trying to promo my channel, also no ads on my thing, just want to share the footage)

Hello, Im currently self studying for the MCSA Server 2016 exams and so far i have got the exam reference guides and video lectures that are provided by Microsoft and video lessons from Lynda.com. The exam references are quite good but there are instances where it gets a bit confusing to me, so I go on and watch video lessons by Microsoft and Lynda and tbh those explanations are sometimes worse than the book. I find both Microsoft and Lynda videos very boring, I lose concentration very easily as even the examples they use are very complicated to take in. I think their tutorials would probably be more understood by people who are revising the subject to write something like an upgrade exam and not a newbie like me. I tried YouTube as well and some of them like eli the computer guy are excellent but they dont have all the lessons that cover the exam. It would be very helpful if u could suggest me free or even paid websites, YouTube channels to watch and books that you recommend reading. I also want to know if this site CBT nuggets offer gud content. Thank you.
