So im strongly considering a move to x99 as im starting to edit/render larger and larger videos more and more frequently and have some spare change lying around. However my question is will there be a Skylake-E variant for the x99 platform, also will these still be compatible with 2011-3 socket or introduce a new socket like normal skylake did to motherboards?

I would mainly use this computer for gaming. That being said, that's not the ONLY thing I'm gonna be using this for. I'd likely use this as a workstation, mainly to run virtual machines. I could definetely benefit from the additional 2 cores, and additional 4 threads. But, could the 6700k match this performance with the new Skylake architecture, especially since the clock speed is faster? And how far behind is the 4790k, if at all? And this may be the wrong place to ask this question, but what's the pros and cons about DDR4? The main things I want to focus on this comparison are: Overclocking capabilities(Stability @ lower voltages(and more importantly, temperatures) = better) Single core perfomance(Stock and overclocked) Max thread performance(Stock and overclocked) DDR3 vs DDR4 Multitasking capabilities I think that's it. -
Hello, I'm having some problems with my new X99 motherboard. Specs: -5820k -Gigabyte X99 UD4P - HyperX Fury 2666mhz cl15 1.2v -Super Flower Platinum 1600w I can't get my memory to run at it's rated speed 2666mhz cl15 1.2v. If I enable XMP profile my DRAM voltage will be set to 1.4V and I'll randomly get this message. If I try to use 125 strap I'll get the same error. If I manually set DRAM voltage to 1.2v I'll get that error every time I try to boot. I can run 2400mhz without any problems. My bios randomly freezes. It will just get stuck and I have to press reset or hold power. When I use any gpu intensive application I'll hear electrical noise from my headphones (NOT coil whine. It's NOT coming from gpus them selves)

Hi guys. First off, I'll get this out of the way. I know SkyLake just came out so don't suggest it (I'd prefer more core/threads because this is not a gaming computer). Here is my list at the moment. CPU: i7-5820K CPU Cooler: H100i Mobo: MSI x99S GAMING 7 Memory: Kingston HyperX Fury Black 8GB (1x8GB) DDR4-2133 (I'll be getting more few weeks later.) SDD: TWO 850 Pro 128GB for RAID 0 GPU: R9 280X Vapor-X So as the title suggests, I'm building the computer inside the desk. (going for something like THIS with Black/Red as theme.) First question is how many fans I should use and whether I should count the cpu cooler's fan/radiator as pull. (thinking of using corsair SP140) Second question is how can I put power buttons and MAYBE hdd/power leds on the desk? And lastly, post any other recommendation for parts Thanks.

A lot of member here ask about why their cpu is not able to OC llke the others and we mostly say it's silicon lottery. I'm trying to finalize my new build. I want to start this build when Windows 10 is launched at the earliest(I want a Win 10 disk, dammit!). However, I can't for the life of me, decide between x99(Haswell/Broadwell-E) and z170(Skylake/Cannonlake). I thought I had settled on Skylake, but it seems like every article I read or video I see flip-flops between which is better. Its the classic choice of better single core performance(z170) vs more cores(x99). I know z170 isn't even out yet to compare, but estimated 10+15% improvement over Devil's Canyon seems a pretty safe assumption. I just want the best system I can possibly afford. It's my hope that you guys can help me figure out which platform better fits the bill. Here's where I'm at so far... The rest of the build: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/6NbZ7P Budget: Ideally, I want to spend $1,000 - 1,200 on the tower, not counting the GPU. My absolute max is $1,500. Expectations: Want whatever choice to be the core of my rig for the next 4-5 years. Uses: Honestly, Over the life of my current rig, I've used it for everything from graphic design to music mixing/production to file conversion and video edition. And, of course gaming. Never anything with animation or 3d design. Though the computer will definitely be used for more than gaming, it's what I care about the most when it comes to performance. So far I've been sticking to older games that I know my old processor won't hold me back too much on. I even have a free copy of Witcher 3 that came with my GPU that I haven't played yet. I will start playing newer titles once the new rig is up, so DX12 is a factor to be considered. Future Plans: For 2015, I am just worried about getting the stronger core possible. I will be using my gtx 960 sli graphics set-up through the end of the year. 2016 I plan on focusing on upgrading to 4k, as I hope the tech will be more common then. I will be getting a REAL 4k gaming monitor, not a TV, and upgrading my GPU(s). Anyone's opinion on which will be the most bang for my budget would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I just used the ASUS 5 way optimization and got a stable overclock of 4.6GHz with a core voltage of 1.314. http://valid.canardpc.com/v5v57w I have read that the core voltage should be kept under 1.3 volts and wonder if anyone could enlighten me with some of your wisdom on this issue as I don't want to damage my chip. Hi, straight to the point,, If i buy ASUS Z10PE-D16 WS ,, will it work if i put two I7 5820K in there ? if the answer it doesn't work please tell me the reason,, it is the same 2011-3 socket and we know Xeon does work on consumer grade motherboard.. Thankyou.. -
I have a new X99 build that is giving me problems again. I had an issue with the original PSU, where it wouldn't boot or come out of sleep from time to time, but I had it RMA'ed and it was perfect for a few weeks; until tonight. I was editing some footage (just playback and simple trims/cuts) and it shut off and now will not turn back on. When I pressed the power button, I could hear a 'click' from the PSU, but then it would immediately shut off. (This is the same issues I had with the bad PSU; I emailed Corsair and said that I need to do more troubleshooting). When I unplugged the CPU 8-pin power cable, the BIOS would boot into debug code 00 ('not used'). I tried pulling the mobo battery for a few minutes; nothing. I reflashed the BIOS, but now with the CPU 8-pin disconnected it won't even make it to a debug code. I did plug in the 8pin for the GPU into all of the available spots on the PSU, just to make sure there wasn't a bad plug for some reason, but it worked on all of them. I swapped out the 8pin CPU cable for a second 8pin CPU cable that came with the PSU, no go. Figuring it was something with the CPU, I pulled the cooler, cleaned the thermal paste, resat the CPU and still nothing. The way my H100i is installed on the top of the R4, it does apply some pressure to the CPU 8-pin connector, but nothing that should cause issues, I can still wiggle the cables around and there isn't any crazy pressure on the connector/pins. The system in question: 5930K @ 4.7GHz (up to 3 cores) / 4.6GHz (4-6 cores) @ 1.415v max turbo boost voltage set in BIOS. On a 10hr AIDA64 benchmark, it never actually pushed more than 1.395V to the core. Temps averaged around 70*C. It was a very stable overclock, I had rendered out videos for several hours and encoded some as well, and never had any issues. Then doing something not very stressful, it just crapped out. I had played Titanfall for several hours one night, everything maxed; and Borderlands The Presequel maxed out a few hours for a few nights; and never had any issues. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated, as this isn't just a gaming rig; I do need it for video editing/production. Asus X99-Deluxe Corsair RM1000 Asus GTX780 DCII

I am planning to build a $1400-$1500 PC that I will use to play games (lots of gaming), web browsing, programming, video editing and some other basic stuff and I was wondering, should I get Haswell-E with DDR4 RAM? I want it to last for a year or two (or maybe even three) without upgrading. What do you think?

Hello , I wanted to build a Haswell-E desktop capable of fast video editing on Premiere Pro 6 and able to play games on High settings in AAA games. Since I am living in UK for the next 3 years at least , I reckon I needed to build a brand new rig for the next few years.My Budget is around 1500 USD. I already have a GTX 770 Lighting and Corsair GS 700 W PSU 2013 edition from my current desktop in my home country. Should I keep both parts and put in the new rig ? Please comment your recommend builds below ! Thanks

AMD's working on next generation FX CPUs which they haven't disclosed yet according to Roy Taylor AMD's VP of global channel sales. They're also building 20nm GPUs as we speak, they discussed the possibility of 5-way xfire as well as freesync & availability of DDR4. Source -

What is the difference between the new Haswell-E Intel Core i7-5820K and the Intel Core i7-4790K in gaming perfomance ? And would you guys recommend me getting the ASUS X99-S Socket 2011-3 for the new Haswell-E CPU? I think the motherboard looks stylish with the Corsair Dominator DDR3 1600MHz Platinum edition
