I've been having issues trying to stream on my computer. My setup is as follows: My consoles (burn me at the stake later) go through an Epiphan AV.io 4K to the PC which streams to YouTube using OBS Studio. The computer is a bit aged, but it can handle to workload. Intel i5 4670K, ASRock Z87 Extreme4, 16GB RAM, MSI GTX 1060 Gaming X. Temps are fine during the stream but then at some point, the system BSOD's. Usually happens within one hour, but it can happen in as little as 5 minutes. The BSOD code is "DRIVER_OVERRAN_STACK_BUFFER". I cannot figure out what in the world is going on, or why it is so intermittent. TIA

logs How do I log programs that has been running/stopped?
kevincatssing posted a topic in Troubleshooting
For a while now there is this one unknown console like window popping up at random times and it was too fast for me to see what it was. Its getting quite annoying and I am getting worried. I've ran antivirus and Malwarebytes scans, they both shows clean results. Is there a way for me to log programs that has been running/stopped so I can figure out what the program is and continue on there? I've searched the web for similar topics and I found one but it was for Windows 7 so I'm not sure if its applicable for me + I don't know how to do it. (The thread about it) (I've uploaded an image of my computer specs, not really sure if its relevant but thats what the pinned guide told me to do, and also have a complimentary picture of my cat! Sorry if I posted on the wrong sub-forum, and hope you guys can help me) -

whenever I start up a benchmark or a game the pc crashes but the power button stays on. it's fine when not on games/benchmarks but I don't think it's a CPU or GPU or monitor problem because I took off all my overclocks on those. so the only thing left is a software error when I go into the event viewer I can see critical error 41 kernel-power the details of the error says that the system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first basically the error was caused by the crash

Dear Linus Community, I am running a different OS on my laptop, a Lenovo Thinkpad W500* and the little Google Notifications will glitch whenever the start screen opens, making them unclosible. I found out over a year ago, restarting the PC will make them disappear, but whenever I restarted my laptop this time, It froze in the POST screen, and I have tried EVERYTHING to diagnose it. It's not the SSD, RAM, Battery, or Keyboard Stuck Keys. I also noticed while stuck on the POST screen, the CPU gets VERY hot, I believe to the high 80C to the low 100C. Does ANYBODY know why it's doing this??? Thank you! -Brigan Mayer * Laptop Specs Intel Core 2 Duo 4 Gigs DDR3 480GB SSD

Hello, Today I decided to do a Unigine Superposition benchmark. During the tests, I kept receiving a message telling me that the program stopped working, or a BSOD with error code "Video Scheduler Internal Error". I tried, 1080p high, 1080p extreme and 4k Optimized. I tried OpenGL and DirectX. I have an Intel 6700k overclocked to 4.60GHz, a GeForce GTX 1080 with boost clock maxed out, and the Intel Z170a Chipset. I tried disabling antivirus programs and any non system processes. Any ideas? Thanks!

Hi all, My system is a 2700X and RTX 2080. A couple of times in the past, and again right now, I get this very strange problem. My graphics card reports 100% load and utilization, 100% power draw, but gives me fuck all performance, dropping down to 70 frames in R6 Siege in 1080p. Driver rollbacks and updates do not help. Clean installs didn't work. Windows reinstalled changed nothing. I have tried disabling Windows game DVR, reseating the GPU, clean wiping all graphics drivers and even opting out of steam beta. Does anyone have ANY idea what is happening? I work in a tech shop and have had the card extensively tested, and nothing is wrong physically, so it MUST be a stupid AF driver or windows issue. PLEASE HELP!

Hi there, Today i downloaded a simple Game scanner to see if anything was corrupt (Got it from a video on youtube that demonstration on how to use it) and i went to launch the .exe file and it came up with this error message (Preparing Setup, Errors Encountered. Please try again later), i simply thought it was just the software but then i went to download 7 more different applications (by different devs) that do similar things and the exact same error would come up. I watched a guy download the same file and everything, and i noticed that his .exe had a icon and everything but mine is just a default app icon. his launched perfectly. im not sure if there's something else i need to be able to launch this, i first thought it was java but that fixed nothing. Any ideas on what i can do? (Windows 10) Thanks, -Adam

Hi, ever since I first installed Apex Legends every time I launch the game for the first time after turning on my PC I get an error saying there is a security breach from lightningservice.exe. I can open task manager and force quit it in advanced mode. I was only able to find one thing online about this saying it might have something to do with RGB software what I have installed is ASRGBLED (AsRock RGB software) and the software for g skill trident z RGB ram. I've also read that lightningservice.exe is a normal windows process but there is malware that disguises its self as lightningservice.exe. What should I do to take care of this? If you need more information feel free to ask anything. Any and all help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance! (if this isn't the correct or best place for this topic can you direct me a better spot to post?)

So I've had this laptop for about 5 years and the only problem still now that I had with it is that the screen decided to do some weird stuff but it wasn't much of a problem cus I just hooked it up to a monitor. Fast forward to now about a year later the I was playing it in the morning and I left it with only discord up to go watch some shows in the other room and I come back and try to open the technic launcher and the computer freezes. So I shut it down and tried to boot it back up and gave me bsod saying 0xc0000001 then I tried factory resetting it cus I thought it might be a software ting. And still the same thing. If you guys need any more info about the PC just ask. Aslo I don't have another PC and I can't access the auto repair menu.

I have quiet the strange problem with my laptop (Asus Zephyrus Ga502) It often does not use its full power. Which means that even simple tasks like web browsing cause it to lag and load very slowly. (it did not do this when it was new) Sadly i dont know exactly what happened. Also when the Pc is in this low-power state my Bluetooth mouse keeps on disconneting. This seems to be related but i dont know in which way. Sometimes the Pc is using its full power and the fans ramp up loudly (which is ok). Then neither the mouse disconnents nor am i lacking power at all. What i noticed: One time i startet the battlenet Launcher after i was away from home with my laptop and i had used it without the power cable (batterymode). Then it asked me whether my hardware had changed. Since then i have this problem. I tried reinstalling my GPU Drivers and i chose the nvidia dedicated gpu in the nvidia control panel to be always used. I have the newest Bios. Thanks in advance for any help

Hello, Recently after moving cross country (the US that is) I went and tried to boot my trust gaming rig discovered it wouldn't boot into windows! So I did some tinkering around and determined that one of my two NVMe SSD's was dead, the one with windows on it! While I keep a offsite copy of important documents I would like to recover my Witcher 3 save files. So insert more tinkering around and voila! The BIOS recognizes the Windows Installation Manager installed on the supposedly dead drive, so I boot from it and get to a windows error screen stating that it couldn't connect to some device and giving me the error code "0xc000000e". After doing some research on the interwebs I tried a few things, I plugged in a windows installation media I had laying around (it is a Windows 10 Home edition media, whereas I have Windows 10 Pro installed on my PC, does that matter?) Then when launching into the recovery media I did a few things, first used the built in windows repair tool... no luck. Secondly, I went into the command prompt and launched DISKPART to see if the drive is recognized and healthy according to DISKPART and it is! So I follow the advice of some random websites and run the following commands in this order (after exiting diskpart) bootrec/scanos bootrec/fixmbr bootrec/fixboot bootrec/rebuildbcd Well a few issues arouse while doing that. First, 'bootrec/scanos' did not find an install of Windows 10. Secondly, when I ran 'fixboot' it replied 'access is denied' Finally, 'rebuildbcd' as you might have guessed, did not find an install of Windows 10. On the upside, 'fixmbr' theoretically did something. If someone could explain what is going on I would happily buy them one copy of whatever regularly priced game on steam that they want! My poor Witcher 3 saves...

Hello Linus Tech Tips, So I have a problem. A few days ago I turned on my pc and started watching youtube videos and my pc just started to black screen randomly. It would make a usb connection and disconnection sound as it black screened and the display came back. I googled the issue and most of the information I came across were mainly concerned with broken and loose HDMI cables. I tried the cable on my PS3 slim and everything was normal. So that wasn't the issue. I reseated everything and no solution. I tried to use the mobo box as a test bench the issues still persisted. At first the screen was just blackscreening randomly and coming back to normal display after a few seconds, but now about 10 days later since the first issue my PC completely freezes , I can't even get to windows desktop, reaching the desktop has become a herculean task and I just reset until I can move my mouse pointer. When my GPU started to show this issue it was only black screening when watching youtube videos or playing video files on my pc not when playing games but now it freezes during gaming as well ( I was playing Nioh and Dirt Rally ). I know that the games are not running when my pc freezes because the game continues at the exact same point when my pc blackscreened.Sometimes my pc freezes so hard that I can't even move my mouse pointer and sometimes I have to reset my pc because It just gets STUCK (I mean nothing goes on), sometimes my pc works fine for a few hours and then the black screen issues pops up and then I reset my pc everything is normal. Today I had an idea I booted into safe mode and played a 1080p movie on my HDD ( It was evil dead 2) no issues whatsoever 0 issues no black screen , no freezes , nothing wrong only normalness everywhere, then I removed only my GPU drivers using DDU and then rebooted into normal windows watched A youtube video and another movie at 1080p ( Army Of Darkness) 0 issues nothing went wrong no problems whatsoever but then the same issues popped up again later as it turns out Windows 10 had automatically installed AMD drivers for my gpu again. I went to device manager and disabled both amd audio drivers and GPU drivers everything went back to normal again I am writing this after I disabled the drivers. Can anyone please help me???, Is my GPU dying ??? I really don't think so I never saw any garbled graphics or screen flashing or any of the associated symptoms I opened up my GPU one of the thermal pads on the memory chips tore away as I opened it and the pad was really stuck on the back plate of my GPU so I feel as if one my the memory chips has failed , could this be the issue??? I have tried everything , changing cables, reseating ,Total clean reinstall of windows 10(Updated) ,latest drivers .If nothing works I will have to use my old R9 270x as a placeholder GPU for a few months as I can't afford a new GPU right now . I will probably have to sell my 5 month old PS4 to get money for a new GPU . Please Help!!! My Specs are as followed : Mobo: Gigabyte AB 350 Gaming 3 CPU: AMD Ryzen 1600 ( Stock speeds NO OC) GPU: Sapphire Nitro RX 570 4gb (running on manufacturer provided OC bios @1340mhz) RAM: Kingston HyperX 8GB DDR4 @ 2400MHZ PSU: Corsair VS 650 CPU cooler : CoolerMaster Master liquid 240 Storage : 240GB ssd A DATA SU 650, 1tb WD green and an old 160GB 2.5 inch ps3 drive P.S. : I keep my PC clean and change thermal paste annually so no temp issues as well.

Hello, This is my first post to this forum, so I apologize if anything is not up to par. I'll follow the rules as closely as I can. First off, my *current* specs: Second, my story: earlier this year, I upgraded my computer from a Xeon 1231 CPU (with the motherboard and RAM I had installed at the time) to an i5-8600k (with the Noctua cooler listed above) with an ASRock Z370M Pro4 and Patriot Viper 16GB (2x8GB) 3200Mhz RAM. This setup worked fine for several months, though I did have to lower the overclock on the RAM to 3000Mhz from 3200Mhz for the computer to POST and work normally. At the time, I was unconcerned, as my primary use case is for gaming and so the very minor loss in performance was moot. Unfortunately, not long after I brought my computer home from school, I began to notice some programs crashing (with no errors thrown) and an occasional BSOD. I didn't think too much of it, as I assumed it was just Windows being wonky. However, these issues began to escalate, to the point where I was getting BSODs several times a day; in fact, programs exiting for no evident reason and BSODs were not just expected but inevitable. It got so bad that, after one particularly nasty BSOD, Windows demanded a clean install, which took several hours of troubleshooting (when I attempted to install Windows from USB, it refused to install and I had to reformat and partition the install drive several times using the command line). Despite a clean install (and checking disk/file system integrity several times on all of my drives), I was still getting errors and BSODs. At this point, I tried to figure out the cause of the errors, as it was impossible to do anything of import for a prolonged period of time. I noticed that the BSOD messages were all related to memory, so I looked into the symptoms of memory errors and they perfectly matched the problems I was experiencing. After looking into possible solutions, I decided to test each stick individually and together in different slots using Windows Memory Diagnostic (which is not the best, I know). Even at this stage it was evident that my system would only be stable with one stick of RAM, as WMD always threw the "a hardware problem was detected, please consult your manufacturer" error when both sticks were installed. Since my system seemed stable enough with one stick, I decided to RMA the set to see if that helped. It didn't. Same errors as before, still only worked with one stick. I tried to further troubleshoot for a while (which included RMA'ing the RAM for the second time), but eventually I gave in and took my system to a nearby Fry's Electronics to have them look at it. They ran their myriad of tests and found (apparently) that both RAM slots on my mobo were busted, and one of my sticks was bad. So I had them replace the mobo and I RMA'd the RAM for the third time. STILL my system threw the same errors. I left it alone for a month or so, as I was busy working and preparing to go back to university. Fast forward to the past couple of weeks. One of my friends suggested that my old Seasonic 520W Bronze PSU might have gone bad or that it could be feeding my mobo dirty power and therefore messing with RAM timings. On the off-chance that this could be the problem, I replaced the PSU with Corsair one listed above. Unfortunately the same errors were thrown. Note that by this point I was using memtest86 on a flash drive to test my memory. With two sticks it threw so many errors that it didn't even finish all of its tests. Another thought that occurred to me is that maybe the model of RAM I had was messing with my CPU or mobo despite being specifically listed as supported on the product pages. Acting on this notion, I purchased a new kit of RAM from Corsair (the model listed above), and still the same errors persist. Also note that I made sure all of my drivers are up to date and that I have the latest BIOS update (which is F10 for my mobo, I believe). I am at a complete loss of what to do at this point. I don't know where else to look or what else to test or what else to replace. It is (evidently) immensely frustrating that this issue persists despite my best efforts. I currently have both Corsair sticks installed at base clock. Just to make sure I'm being thorough, here's a list of the troubleshooting steps I can remember trying (or been forced to perform): If you need any more info, please let me know. Furthermore, I know this post seems unnecessarily long, but I'm trying to document the order of events as it happened as thoroughly as I can. Thanks again.

Simply put, I have a TUF-X570 and Ryzen 3600 with a Scythe Mugen cooler. I would like to switch to Ryzen 4000 down the road, and the case is really well ventilated. Recently swapped my modules: FROM: Trident Z Neo DDR4-3200 16-18-18-36 (2x8GB Samsung) TO: Trident Z Neo DDR4-3600 16-19-19-39 (2x16GB Hynix) General use is okay, but after a game hard-locked the system, I checked the RAM. Karhu RAM Test hits an error within 5 minutes of use. If I clock down to DDR4-3200, no errors after 7 hours of testing, even at 16-18-18-36. I guess what I'm asking is: Is this the CPU memory controller, or the RAM? Should I be sending it back (the RAM is bad?) or the CPU just is a dud and can't handle it (the RAM is good?) Any ideas?

I cleaned up files on my computer and somehow accidentally caused this issue (see the attached image). I can no longer open any video files to see them. This seems to be a problem with the "Movies & TV" program on Windows 10. I have uninstalled it and reinstalled it multiple times now. This only results in the message taking a few seconds longer to show up the first time. I also worked through all the solutions listed on this page with no success. I get this same message no matter which video I try to open, old or new videos. Any ideas how to fix this? I would rather not have to do a complete reinstall of Windows 10. I do a fair bit of video editing every day so not being able to play videos is problematic. Thanks for any advice. I appreciate the help.
