So first let me establish a couple things: I'm for physical media and like Luke said during WAN show once "real physical media, not just discs disguised as digital download codes". The title could be a tad click baitey as I'm not sure if it is truly accepted on PC, but feel like its been much more accepted, at least from my perspective as someone who actually returned to consoles for the physical media after being a PC gamer for quite a while. I'm not defending digital only, its good for some, but I don't want it to be the only standard, just pointing out an oddity that I've noticed and could be entirely wrong about, hence why I'm asking the community. So in my perspective it seems that Steam and Blizzard being digital only have been wildly accepted as just natural and I can't remember anyone ever really blinking an eye or raising an eye brow at the topic. PC was all digital and console was not. However as modern consoles have begun to switch to digital I've seen a flurry of discussions about media preservation, proper ownership, games being taken away after the fact (thanks Ubisoft) and loss of access due to down servers whether they're for the game or the platform you purchased them on. Those discussion points are great and I want them pushed further as I want physical media to stay permanently, but it feels like it's really only being and only has been directed at the consoles. Perhaps these discussions did take place as physical media for PC gaming began to drop off and I was just too young or not in the scene when it was occurring, but if we're going to have these discussions about media, ownership and online services, should we not have it about ALL forms of media on ALL platforms? How come streaming movies, music and downloading games on PC have seemingly been accepted but we draw the line at consoles. Should the line not be where any possibility of the removal of perpetual ownership of a piece of media is concerned? Perhaps I'm just becoming the old lady screaming at the clouds. lol Would love to know your thoughts on the subject and any information I might be missing. Also just for good measure, f### Ubisoft. lol

I heard about the refreshed Xbox Series X on GameLinked as thats where I get all of my gaming news. lol But as you can deduce from the title, I'm a bit disappointed that it's digital only. I understand that discs for modern consoles act simply as glorified download codes, but like I want my wall of plastic cases! XD So I was pondering if this is actually a bad thing though. There is the concern of ownership for certain, but like maybe this isn't a bad thing? Steamdeck is digital only and the PC space has effectively been digital only for years now. Has the time come? Am I old now? Is it just an old woman yelling at the sun when I say I want and will continue for as long as possible to purchase physical media regardless? lol Though I was curious as to people's thoughts on the subject manner. Do you think this is a good thing or a bad thing? Also is Riley really that white? Him and I might have something in common after all! XD

I would like to submit the chartering of a new group of earthly wonders: The Seven Wonders of the Digital World! This is an idea that I've had in my mind and think it would be really cool to at least ponder and consider. I think that the Internet, and by extension, all computers, have given us the opportunity to create things with near infinite possiblities. Despite all the negative and cruel things that can happen in the virtual world, the Seven Wonders of the Digital World give us the opportunity to appreciate the good and edifying influences it can have on society, through sharing our personal experiences and goodwill with others. As such, rather than just hammer out a list with only my subjective input, I want everyone here to submit their own nominations to what they believe should be considered a wonder of the digital world worth cherishing. I'll start with a submission of my own: C To most people it might be just a letter but to those that have dipped their toes into the realm of computers it doesn't just represent part of a language, it is language. The C language and it's extension in C ++ is the bedrock over which much of the internet and popular programs exist today. Before web development tools and alternative languages existed, C language virtually created the known web (with help from a few other languages) in both senses of the word. Most games today run on engines designed on its C ++ extension and without it, the gaming landscape would almost certainly look radically differnt to today. There may be a time when C language becomes obsolete but regardless of when it goes quietly into the twilight, for better or worse, the impact it has had on all things electronic has left and will continue to leave a strong legacy behind it. With that, I want to hear what you consider to be a wonder of the digital world and why. If your just here to contribute or just lurk around, I wish you all a terrific day and many digital blessings! Cheers! (づ。◕‿‿◕。)づ (◕ω◕✿)

Foot pedals being amazing for simple stuff like push-to-talk, leaves me wanting something of a high quality. From what I can tell, the only player in the market of key press simulation is https://pcsensor.com who do “drop shipping” under various names. As for analogue, there are a few “gaming” racing pedals to choose from. However it would be required to somehow translate the specific axis’ data into either a keyDown event and keyUp event, or a keyHeld event. I have previously tried 2 variants from PC Sensor, both with their own advantages and disadvantages. However I have no idea what the response time would be compared to using a “gaming” racing pedal setup set to trigger a key press. * Question 1: response time? * Question 2: analogue to key press Does anyone have some insight into either of these questions?

If i put this in the Wrong Topic Please no hate just tell me, lol Hello, I've had my Blue Spark Digital For a long time now 3-4 years. I've unplugged the mic and replugged it and *Poof* Stopped working, so i looked into it and the pins where bent, so i tried to repair it had no luck.. contacted blue for a new cable and they said they don't have any because it has not been in production for a while now, so no replacement cable. So i came on the idea to just hardwire / solder a normal usb cable to the internals of the Mic, it would maybe be an inconvenience but I'm okay with it and don't have the money to buy a new mic, and the sound quality it still really good. But the ONLY problem is, i don't know where i should solder the Power + / Power - / and Both Data Cables. So i came here with a hope to get some help. I attached Pictures of the inside of the mic, If anyone could help and need more info / pics just tell me. Thank you in advance.

Hello Everyone! I am looking to buy a new internal hard drive to store my music, game, movie library and I found a really good deal on an Ultrastar hard drive. The thing is that these drives are marketed as data center drives which confused me since they have similar specs to the gold and red series. Price-wise, the Ultrastar is the cheapest, then it's the gold one which costs 25€ more and then the red which costs 50€ more (compared to the ultrastar). The Ultrastar and the gold one also have 512mb cache as opposed to the red one which has 256mb which is strange because the red is the most expensive one on the list... Does anyone know the difference between the Ultrastars, gold and red drives and which ones are the best reliability-wise and for my use-case? Thank you in advance

Hello. I have a setup with one Intel Nuc where I have Linux and a desktop computer with Windows 10. I'm currently using wireless headphones (SteelSeries Arctis Pro Wireless) connected to the Windows machine (over a USB coming from their receptor). I get a enough audio quality this way with some kind of 5.1 emulation from the Windows computer. Now, the Nuc doesn't have a proper audio output, just the HDMI connection that I could maybe split and pass the audio to other place, but I don't know how I could input that digital audio signal to my Windows machine to mix it with the audio coming from it, so both PCs could output audio to my wireless headphones. Right now I'm using a USB to Jack adapter on the Nuc and running a cable to the Windows PC line-in, but the audio is just awful. Is low volume, cracks everytime a loud sound plays and have a decent amount of white noise. I've been looking for a while for some way to transfer the digital signal directly (5.1) from the Nuc, but no idea how to receive it and be able to mix it on Windows. I also used for a while VBAN on Linux to send the audio over network to the Windows machine where I received the signal with VBAN Receptor, but latency and CPU usage on the emitter side made it unsustainable. Any idea on a way to archive this? Thanks!

Hello, I am wondering what would be the best SSD for game storage, I already have a 1TB m.2 SN550 as a boot drive and storage for now and will be buying the samsung gen4 pcie SSD as the new boot drive whenever that is out which will take up all the m.2 slots on my x570 tomahawk. So in the meantime I am wondering what is the fastest 2TB or bigger SSD that is reasonable for a game drive? Any suggestions would be great. Thanks EDIT: I was thinking about the MX500 or the WD Blue

I have an Acer Predator XB271HU. I love almost everything about this monitor, the image quality is fantastic, the refresh rate is as smooth as butter on a frying pan and being able to connect my PS4 to it helps a lot (yes I know putting a PS4 Slim on a 1440p monitor makes the image blurry but I can live with that over having a seperate monitor just for that). The only real downside to it is that the audio quality is god awful! Firstly everytime I play something with audio, be it a video, music from my Spotify or a game, I get a roughly 1 second delay before the audio starts playing, by which point I've missed a second or 2 of audio and depending on what I'm paying attention to, that's not good. I don't mean as in things are out of sync, I mean it will play the video, song, you name it and will still play it in sync with what's happening on screen. It will just skip the first second or so of audio and start playing for where it's meant to be at according to what I'm playing. Not only that however but the audio itself is dreadful, everything just sounds messy and not as good as it should sound. Is there a way I can fix this? Would purchasing a DAC help in anyway, do I have to buy some speakers? If so, will connecting them to the monitor affect the quality coming out of the speakers, ideally I want the audio to come out of the monitor because I have my PS4 connected to my monitor as well and I don't want 1 system to get good audio while the other has to suffer. Has anyone got any suggestions? Would be most appreciated. P. S. I have look at reviews for the monitor and it seems like in terms of the delay I'm seem to be the only person with this issue. Very strange.

Source: Android Police Google has launched a series of digital wellbeing apps designed to balance the user's health and wellbeing on a digital scale, such as keeping track of how many times you open an app, scheduled a tailored time to receive mobile notifcations, and other intuitive new applications. Unlock Clock: We Flip: Post Box: Morph: Desert Island: Paper Phone: I like the idea of digital wellbeing applications to review how often you're using your device as well as what you're doing in particular. I would certainly be interested in getting something like these for my iPhone, as I would definitely like some insight as to how I am managing my digital wellbeing. I praise Google for developing these applications and allowing Android users the chance to monitor and give insight as to how they use their devices, which hopefully nudges them to adjust their usage pattern. We all know some people who are glued to their devices, and these types of digital wellbeing applications are very welcome to the addicted few.

Hello techies! So, after the lift on software updates for my Huawei, I got access to this neat feature on my phone: Digital balance, which basically measures my screen time in different apps, and also gives me nice summaries on what I actually spend my time on doing. My question to you is, do you know of any other programs on Windows that would do the same? Saving statistics on the kind of programs that are in focus, and how long they've been used? I've attached a screenshot of the Android app for those who haven't seen it yet

Hello, So I've been on the hunt for a graphics tablet for a while and I am pretty sure I am going to get a graphics display before I make my wallet slip into crippling depression about a Wacom Mobile Studio Pro. (i.e. $3000 Artist Workstation, basically see here) So I've been wondering what an artist would truly need in something that they can take back and forth with them to different places like coffee shops and the library without having to lug around a desktop, or someone who doesn't want a laptop (which I know sounds stupid for some.) I just wanted to see if anyone would entertain the idea and have an idea about it. I know it'll probably just need 16 GBs and at least be able to run Clip Studio and the Adobe suite.

Western Digital to release 20TB HDD This is pretty cool, but however since Bennett himself said that they don't know when it will be released, so this is a far far future. Sauce: https://mybroadband.co.za/news/hardware/306138-western-digital-to-release-20tb-hdd.html

Hi... How's life? So here's the problem. I have a Smart TV with a cable connection and it hs two kinds of channels on its menu. ATV and DTV channels. The ATV channels are all open but the DTV ones have a key displayed on their sides and are all locked. The DTV ones had gotten unlocked a few days ago after another person in at my house said that she simply did autotune, but they all got locked again by themselves automatically after a day or two. And the autotune can't seem to get them back again. Any ideas???? Looking forward to all kind responses. Thank you.

Hello Mates, I have recently upgraded my speakers to Logitech Z906, and I mostly play Games and Watch movies, no music on PC (so lets not talk about how bad Z906 is with Music - I know that already). My question is if anyone has any experience with this Z906 with 5.1 channel through the 3.5 mm cables provided and getting an optical cable would make any difference when the device decode the sound all by itself. It is interesting for you to know that the onboard audio is ALC1220 (Gigabyte Z370 Aorus Ultra Gaming 2.0). Should I keep the 3.5mm analog configuration or I should try for the digital input for the speaker? Will there be any major difference in Game/Movie sounds?

Hi, Anyone here have recommendations for a tablet? Specifically for writing notes, like thats the only purpose Im gonna use it for... Up until now, I'm still using good'ol yellow pad paper for taking notes but my main problem about it is that when I need to review something, Most of the time, I need to flip a billion pages before I even find what I was looking for. I tried to search for any digital notepads on google, some looks good like the reMarkable and the Sony DPT-RP, but they cost like $900, lul. Most people though recommends iPad with Apple Pencil. It does cost $500 in total from where Im from, but is it really worth it? Just for reminder again, Im only going to use it for note taking, its kinda part of my job. I dont really need anything like video playback and coconuts or whatevs. I do need it to have at least an SD card or internal memory. I also found some cheap ones on amazon like these guys: https://www.amazon.co.jp/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_1?__mk_ja_JP=カタカナ&url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=電子メモ But I can't tell if theyre good. Also one more thing that I'm looking for is something with good precision, because I write very small. I want to cram as much info in one page so I don't have to flip many pages when looking at them. Another problem with the ones on amazon is that most of them dont have SD card slot, so you have to use a companion mobile app to save your notes on your phone or tablet.

Just realized, NewEgg and Amazon does not carry HIS video cards anymore. I know they are still around -- HIS lists a IceQ X2 RX-580 on their product page. They even have Vega 56 and 64 cards listed as well. The last time I really noticed them was back during the R9-300 and R9-Fury series. To be honest, not a big fan of their gold GPU shroud...or their "unique" shroud designs as of late. However, their UV reactive fans, and at one point UV reactive shroud, is pretty freakin' neat. I still remember droolilng over a HIS IceQ4 Radeon HD 4850 back in the day.... MUCH better than what Sapphire, MSi, Gigabyte, ASUS offered at the time Anyone have any input(s) on what happened to them?

laptop Laptop for image production + gaming
Mogensen posted a topic in Laptops and Pre-Built Systems
Hi! I recently got accepted into a university for a digital image production program (3 years in Sweden). The school suggests to bring your own laptop and therefore i now need to purchase one. Use cases are for animating, graphic design, image editing, movie editing and tiny amounts of gaming (if i ever get the free time). With that said, the school had some recommendations on what specs to look for: Intel Core i7 Processor 8-16 GB of memory (At least) 256 GB SSD Nividia Geforce 1060 GPU or similar Can any of you recommend a solid laptop with specs similar to the ones above? It doesn't need to be a "flashy" gaming pc since i will be using it at the university mostly. I'd honestly prefer one with a sleek and proffesional (not over the top) design. I have done some browsing myself of course, consindering the Dell Inspiron 7000 as an alternative. However, i wanted to get some feedback from the community since i might have missed some good options out there. Dell Inspiron 7000 link: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Dell-Inspiron-15-6-inch-Anti-Glare-Gaming/dp/B06VV992PY For this, either the configurations: (Intel i7-7700HQ, 256GB SSD, Nvidia GTX 1050Ti) or (Intel i7-7700HQ, 512 GB SSD, Nvidia GTX 1060). The laptop needs to be able to be shipped to sweden, and preferably i want it to cost below 1500$ US (don't be afraid to recommend slightly more expensive ones however) Thanks for the help! -
So I've slowly been working my media collection of DVD's and Blu-Rays into Plex. I came to Stargate Universe however and realized I don't have season 2 on bluray. So I scoured the internet looking for a copy. Come to find out they don't exist, I got my hopes up when I found I UK version on Amazon only to find out it was cancelled as well. So my question is how can I get my hands on a 1080p copy? Can I buy it on DIGITALLY on Amazon, Play Store, or iTunes and put it into my Plex library or is my only option to buy the DVD set and try upscaling or something of the like? I have the first season on bluray and it would kill me to ruin the first half. If it was only ALL on DVD it wouldn't be as painful. HELP

I wanted to share my experience of the warranty process through Western Digital. Since I started building PC's many years ago, I chose WD for their internal hard disk drives. I now have had two failed 1TB Black hard drives due to bad sectors, both purchased 3 years apart if you were thinking its a batch issue. When the first one failed I didn't even think to check the warranty which was definitely still valid. When the second one failed about a month ago I went on the website, registered my product, and realized I have 3 years left. The first step, I tried was testing it with their proprietary software Life Guard Diagnostic. I did both quick and extended and it showed "failed due to bad sectors". It asked if I wanted to try and repair I chose yes, but unfortunately it did not work. So I started a support ticket. I asked if there was anything else I could do to fix the drive and also why it kept happening to me. They never answered instead they asked for my serial number then told me to follow this link to RMA the drive. The link was broken and stated "no results found". Then they sent a proper link. Next I was trying to add my shipping address to my profile for the replacement hard drive. The support portion of their website is https://westerndigital.secure.force.com/ which is run from India. It would not allow my address to be entered. It would tell me my address in invalid. I live in South Florida. I could not continue the RMA process. I googled the issue and come to find the same problem has been around since January 2016. Many people not able to enter their address and continue the RMA process. So, back to the e-mail and asked them to enter it for me which they obliged. At this point I started to feel they would do whatever they could to not fill the warranty. After getting that squared away the RMA instructions were incredibly long. I had to print it and it was 3 pages worth. The shipping instructions were very particular stating two inch packing material, exact type of packing material to be used. Serial number written on 3 sides of the box in BOLD letters. RMA barcode to be taped to the top side. Which they gave you two labels to choose from (I still never understood which one was right). All the while the instructions telling me if anything was not right they would invalidate the RMA and nothing would be returned. Alas I received my new hard drive and they received my broken one. The one (very) positive outcome is they sent a 2TB back, although i'm not so sure its a Black, it doesn't say anywhere on the label, but it made the situation a lot better. After receiving the new hard drive I wanted to be proactive and register the hard drive right away. That's when I find out the new hard drive has 100 days left on the warranty. I felt it should at least be the 3 years left I had on the last one seeing that I sort of purchased a 5 year warranty with the drive. Back to the e-mail and it was fixed. Now I have to say this is the first warranty I have ever done, so maybe they are all like this, but it just seemed to me they were making the process so difficult to where I would not return the hard drive. I have been using Western Digital products for a very long time and its just a bummer their customer support was well, what it was. Sorry if it sounds like I am crying about it, but I waited a week to write this so I wasn't irritated anymore.

Hello, I want to connect my digital piano to both my computer and phone. The piano has one USB 2.0 type B port. I understand that I cannot use the piano on both my computer and phone at the same time. I don't want to switch cables every time I want to use my other device so will the device from the link do the job? And will there be any additional latency (important for MIDI devices to have as less as possible). Thanks https://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B01CU4QCRS/ref=ox_sc_act_title_2?smid=AXZ3JQ1GVFPIF&psc=1 Or will this one work? https://www.reichelt.nl/?ARTICLE=180134&PROVID=2788&wt_gnla=46505243199_225942633078&PROVID=2788&gclid=CjwKCAiA8P_TBRA9EiwAJrpHM0reLadLElGWHrgaQSs-lSXg4mUwv8JN6lRY-a1rrxa0wiyAbq8UQBoCyvMQAvD_BwE

At the moment I am considering converting all of my VHS tapes to digital files. After doing some research I have come to a roadblock. The first is what type of hardware to get. The two main types are usb capture devices and the second dedicated pcie expansion cards. With the USB cables they tend to be cheaper, off brand going for $30-$50 and the elgato going for $65. The PCIE cards go for $150. With the USB ones I often see people complaining about video quality. I really just want to get this right the first time and not have to go through returns. My second concern is software. The brands i'm looking at are Elgato, StarTech.com, Diamond, and Hauppauge. With the elgato I know the software will be fine but they are on the expensive side and only have a usb version. With Startech.com and Hauppauge I'm worried that their software will be unusable. So my questions. 1. Which type of device should I get? 2. Which brand of the three i mentioned get? 3. Have you used any of the products I have mentioned?

Hi We just bought a new 4K tv which has a digital audio out port. And our analog Sony receiver has only analog rca inputs. I searched online for digital to analog converters, and there are a ton of cheapo ones, but i don't really trust them. They look cheap, all that i found look the same, just the brand logo what differs. Has anyone got experience with one of these devices? And the one, that i found ok, is it looks ok to you as well? And of course the point is to find a good 5.1, not a stereo one. Thanks guys Here are the ones that I mentioned: Ebay cheapo 1 , Ebay cheapo 2 and almost the same on Amazon Ebay one, that looks ok to me
