So, here's a question. Can you daisy chain your mobile hotspots? By that I mean, can you use a phone as a mobile hotspot, then have another phone connect to that? This should get around the issue of only having one phone line plan but wishing to use both Android and iPhone. This is the real and practical question which begs both practical answers about overhead, legality, etc. etc. etc. ....now...the silly question comes to mind, how insane can you take this? Because, presumably, you could get a phone to chain that setup along from one phone to another to another to [turtles all the way down]. If I remember correctly, the software will try to stop you, but that's not a hardware limit and should be hackable around. Do you get drop off due to overhead? What's the latency issues at play? Even better, maybe you can set a record by trying to find out? Just an idea.

Why do Service Host: Network Service is using 20-50Mbps all the time? I just lost 10GB of data in minutes! How do I disable it? and why it's using that much data? Windows update is paused and allow downloads from other pcs is also off

Hi all, I have an old Fire Phone from launch (you may laugh). A year or 2 after I got it, I left it out in the rain. Haven't bothered since to try and fix it or anything, considering it won't turn on and it was left out over night in the rain (I can't believe I could even do something like this). Anyway, just for fun I thought I'd try to retrieve the data off of it to see my cringey photos from 2014. I already own phone repair kit with the relevant screw bits and everything. Again, I'm sure this is a total wash if the mobo is fried, and I don't really know how storage works on a mobile device. I've tried connecting it to my PC with USB and it's not reading anything. Replacement batteries are only like 10 bucks on Ebay. Any thoughts? Thanks for any help you can give.

Hi, I would like to ask if there is a hope for my drive, Yesterday, I planned to backed my data off my 2TB HDD to a 10TB HDD that I bought for back up (The file system for my drive was exFAT, I didn't know back then that exFAT is prone to corruption) But when I plugged it in, the windows recognized it but I couldn't accessed the data in the drive, the disk became 100% on the task manager and I mistakenly formatted the HDD 2 times, (quick format) the first one to exfat and the second one to NTFS. Can a data recovery service actually recover this hard drive. Because I gave up on recovery softwares, the software just won't load up. Also, when I tried to open disk management, the software freezes when the drive is connected to my laptop. File below is the screenshot of the state of my HDD.

Hi all, I’ll try to make this short. I was a full Windows/Android consumer until Engineering University. I branched back into the Apple World through their iPad (7th Gen. / 32GB) for note-taking and video editing. I fell in love and bought the iPad Mini (5 Gen. / 256GB). Now I own an iPad Pro 2020 (WiFi + Cellular). Yes, I went in deep. My question is, what is the best way to transfer both small and large files between iPadOS and Windows? I currently use Google Drive. I access it through Chrome on Windows and the My Files app on iPadOS. I need a faster way. I don’t own an iMac or MacBook so AirDrop isn’t an option; but a similar method is welcomed. Please advise. Thank you!

Hello all, a colleague approached me about her personal laptop not booting up. Long story short her drive appears to have completely failed. Her laptops bios indicates no boot device is present. I removed the drive and placed it in a a USB enclosure which should be compatible on paper: This is the enclosure I used There was no drive activity at all. Windows only recognized the enclosure and macOS didn't recognize the drive either. I'm out of my own resources that I have to attempt to get data off of this drive. I was just wondering if there was anything else I could try to attempt to get this drive up and running at least enough to get the data off it. If not this thing is off to drive savers. Drive model: MZ-NTY2560. Appears to be just a regular SATA M.2 2280 drive.

WD My Book Live users wake up to find all their data deleted
Chris Pratt posted a topic in Tech News
Summary A number of WD My Book Live owners have had their drives remotely wiped. Quotes My thoughts This is a cautionary tale for both the dangers of connected devices and always having multiple separate backup locations for your important data. You definitely should not store any important data solely on a resource connected to the Internet. Really unfortunate for the people this happened to, though. Some reportedly have lost years of work or personal memories. I have signed up to some service via a Credit score monitoring provider here in the UK (ClearScore). They offer a service where they apparently scan the Dark Web and it highlights all leaked passwords, addresses, emails and accounts that have been posted. At first, I got it as a prevention thing as it was only £5 a month, but after 1 search, it came back with like 8+ different groups of leaked information. I was sceptical, but it literally shows you the EXACT password that has been leaked (so in other words, information that ClearScore couldn't have known). I was mind blown. Of course, my passwords being leaked are from websites/apps that appear to have had some sort of data breach in the past and a couple of unknown sources. This is not the part I am concerned or amazed at though. What is shocking me is that this leaked information can be scanned and instantly found on the Dark Web. 1.) This means that my information is PUBLICLY available somewhere on a random Dark Web site. - Why? What purpose would someone have to PUBLICLY release information to others unless they are a HVT? I understand blackhat and alike buy and sell information, like "CC FOR SALE" etc, but they have no motive to distribute the info for free unless it's to sabotage a company (which I highly doubt). I don't understand how ClearScore would have been able to obtain this information unless it was public. 2.) Even if it was public, it is probably contained on a spreadsheet or similar document with probably thousands of other leaked users. If ClearScore can identify leaked information this easily, surely they would report back to where the leak came from and the source would invest some resources into getting the data removed. Data Protection and GDPR is really big these days and the fines can be in the millions. I'm no web dev, but surely you could pay a top-tier security team £100K or something to find the storage location of the information and get it removed. Would love to hear comments from a data security expert or similar.

I ordered a 970 EVO Plus NVMe M.2 SSD 250GB SSD to boot instead of my HDD, and its coming in tomorrow. I am really excited to increase startup speeds, faster editing, and game load times but I have a question. Before I copy my HDD data to my SSD I want to make sure Windows 10 is running fine. My Windows 10 right now is a little funky (don't ask) and I'm wondering if I should reinstall windows before I transfer the data over or reinstall windows after? Does it matter? Just want some different opinions I guess.

Hi everyone, please bear with me here as I've never had or needed to use a mobile data dongle/adapter until this week. Reason I'm asking: I'm starting a new job next week but my WAN connection has started being super slow and very unreliable recently. I emailed my ISP who told me they are doing region-wide upgrades for the next 12-18 months so I should expect frequent outages. Amazing timing! I immediately looked for another ISP but it's this one or nothing as I'm in a rural area. So, I went to a store and picked up a 3G/4G dongle but I could barely even connect! When I managed to load a speed test I was getting a 10,000-40,000ms ping with a speed so slow it couldn't register, it just showed 0.00Mb/s. Of course, I immediately took it back to cancel it. I want to try with another network that supposedly has the best coverage in this country and some people have recommended. Question(s): Is there any possible way I can help or improve the signal on a mobile data dongle? Would the old improve your WIFI hack work by making a dish out of aluminum foil with the dongle placed in the middle? Or what about connecting it by a USB extension cable and putting the dongle outside the house in a waterproof box? Or same idea but in the attic/loft? Anything that could improve it? Appreciate the help.

Summary Facebook found four malicious Chrome extensions, and is suing two of their developers. The extensions were found to have been scaping user data. The following are the extensions in question: Facebook claims the developers of the Blue and Green keyboard apps "misled users into installing the extensions with a privacy policy that claimed they did not collect personal information." The company they are suing, 'Oink and Stuff' is based in Portugal, which means they also broke Portugal’s Database Protection Laws. – Jessica Romero, Director of Platform Enforcement and Litigation at Facebook My thoughts I find it rare to have news like this where facebook is taking action against those harvesting data. Perhaps they want all the data to themselves, or maybe they are trying to take a step in the right direction. This also shows that Facebook (and their subsidies) are reviewing at chrome extensions and other 3rd party things that run on their services. Abstract: My computer has been bothering me for quite some time now. I primarily use it for games and pet data projects. I would also like to use this computer for working from home again. I would appreciate some help in figuring out what to replace it with. Budget (including currency): Without case: ~1500€, somewhat flexible. Country: Germany Work workloads: Both my work and private projects generally feature large and high-dimensional data. My supervisor calls it "big data", but I don't like that phrase. The memory requirements are large-ish. I have access to my own 28-core 64GB memory VM instance, as well as a high-performance cluster for really annoying workloads. It would however be nice to be able to load and do some of the analyses locally. I thus think that at least 32GB of memory would be needed. Games workloads: Gaming is secondary to me, but still something I want from this machine. These are some of the games that would be nice to be able to run (which currently I cannot): Just Cause 3, Elite: Dangerous, Anno 1800. Improvements in some currently played games (Stellaris, Guild Wars 2, Cities: Skylines) would also be nice. There are also some future releases that are potentially interesting, like 2077. Other details: I am set on building this in an NCASE M1 (once they are available again, until then just use the current case). I have four monitors (1080p60) and I intend to use all of them (but only singles for games). Other peripherals exist. For dual-boot I would like to have two 1TB NVMe SSDs. I have NAS and thus don't need bulk storage in this computer. I work on GNU/Linux and play games on Windows Current machine: As mentioned before, this machine is annoying. Not surprising since it is basically an i5-3570k and GTX660Ti. I can't reuse the PSU (750W ATX, m1 takes the smaller ones), or the memory (16GB DDR3). I don't know about the cooler (Dark Rock 3). What I have been able to figure out: I was thinking that maybe I should go for a Ryzen 7 3800X build (might be fast enough? Ryzen 9 3900X looks nice too?). Like previously stated, ≥32GB of memory is a must, so are two 1TB NVMe SSDs. I was also thinking that the RTX3070 might be a good choice. I am willing to wait on GPUs to get a possibly better one than currently available ones. I also remember a lot of wayland compositors not working with nvidia proprietary drivers because nvidia. Might be something to keep in mind if AMD cards are good enough. Need assistance to recover my data from my External HDD
appr3ntic3 posted a topic in Storage Devices
Hey All, I happened to buy an External Hard Drive(Transcend 1TB USB 3.1 Gen 1 StoreJet 25M3S SJ25M3S Rugged External Hard Drive) from a local dealer a year back. I have not used that drive that much, sparsely 10-15 times till date. I just used it to backup my photos and stuffs from my phone in that hard drive. And i don't have any other backups. . Yesterday when i tried to connect that Drive, it suddenly says "You Need to Format the disk in drive before you can use it". I am scared af right now. I tried to reconnect it few times but it doesn't work and says the same thing. Another thing, i have never mishandled my device ever and yes it has not fallen off from anywhere. Have anyone ever had faced a similar issue previously ? If yes, then please help me get out of this mess. I just don't want to lose any of my data. P.S. I just researched a bit about this HDD in amazon and it doesn't have much good reviews so please show me a ray of hope anyone. Thanks in advance !!! I have the snap of the issue i faced along with the picture of HDD for your reference.- 2 replies

Hi Guys Over the years of constant computer upgrades, I have traditionally transferred my old HDD to the new computer and just used it as extra storage I now have 3 x 1TB HDD of those 3 HDDs, two of them are at capacity with the 3rd one starting to fill up My current OS is booting from a small 256GB SSD What I would like to do is either buy one or 2 large SSD and use them as storage and throw away the old HDD My question is, what would be the best way of doing this? I foresee obvious time issues and possible stability problems Do I trust windows to do the transfer or do I use another program any assistance or suggestions would be much appreciated Thanks

I cant seem to find anything of the sort. Wherever I look, all I see is bullshit articles saying i should have a 650w PSU for a 3060 and 750w for a 3070. I don't want that. I need a excel spreadsheet of hard data on exactly how much power GPUs draw at load, along with data for spikes, idle, and how much of it comes from the mobo slot vs the PCIE power connector. I know plenty of companies and reviewers measure these power draw stats but I can't watch a 15 minute GN review for every card that dropped in the last decade and a half. If anyone knows of resources that aggregate such data, even if its not every card or not all of those data points, any spread sheet with hard data on power draw would be much appreciated.

Hi, So a few months ago my external hard drive suffered a mechanical failure and died causing me to lose 2 terabytes of downloaded anime ,manga ,visual novels, movies, tv shows, and projects and companies that do the in depth repairs quote around 700$ and I just don't have that much to spare unfortunately. I recently built a new computer and I want to make sure I don't get caught lackin' so I was wondering if there is any existing program or software to make an Daily Updated Compressed backup of a 3.6tb hard drive to a 180gb ssd. The reason I need the compression is due to the drive size but if it's not possible to do this is there any way to create a daily backup of all the file and folder names.

Is there any way to access the data from the LTT reviews? I specifically want the data for the Ryzen 7000 review for my stats class, because I find this an interesting topic. Is there any way to access this? I know LTT Labs will soon have a website and data will be available there, but I've been looking around and there are no resources that I can see.

Hi there all, Just had a few suggestions on how data should be represented in videos. Of course, I understand not everyone cares for the rigor and accuracy of scientific media, but I think a discussion would be useful! One of the things I have noticed across many channels that provide data and comparisons on computer components, systems and general benchmarks is that they all lack some standards and important information in the figures produced. I am an Oxford Biology student and have been given a lot of classes and resources that are to help improve our data representation and ensure our data is unbiased and fair. This is obviously not what we should expect from free sources like LTT videos but there are some lessons that could be applied. For example: Use of colour differences between individual variables (New colour for each processor for example with different measures in a different but related shade) Clarity over the data used in the title. Titles are often very bare and don't tell us exactly what measure is being used. Is it the mean? is it the lowest value? Are we looking at a measure of central tendency. This sort of thing is important to know whether the examples we are being shown were cherry-picked or not! Some variety in the graphs used might sometimes represent the data better. If something has been tested 50 times each, you have a great sample size! So you should show that off with a boxplot that lets us know the mean, quartile ranges and outliers! This helps us to understand how variable the data is. We dont want to go a buy something because it looked super different if that is actually a rare result! Please, please. please! Ensure figure legends or side comments are of a reasonable size! we only see the figures for a short time and it just helps to read it. The empty space around the figure is fine to be filled with a good legend or even a little figure caption if needed! Sometimes its not always feasible to test something loads and loads of times, and thats okay! But that should be clear, Of course people might not understand what N = 3 means but they do understand if you give a little warning that they were only tested 3 times! we want to know how reliable your conclusions are! Overall, the data behind the figures always sounds quite robust, and the process very well controlled! But it feels like a shame that a lot of the data is not being used as effectively as it could be. While there is a balance between how far you go, I feel there is a level to which it could be improved. A good figure can make the difference between someone buying something they truly are suited to or making a mistake due to an incorrect assumption. As an influencer, there is room to suggest that LTT has a responsibility to not mislead. Now I do feel the data could be construed to be misleading in some cases, and questions can be asked. My personal opinion is that if those questions were answered, they LTT would be providing information that no other influencer on this topic is providing, putting them ahead of the competition. There is truth in the fact that this will benefit more serious tech lovers and professionals than the average casual viewer, but that is where LTT would have to consciously decided how rigorous the figures truly are! Now, I decided to post this here to see what other people think, do you agree? Do you think there are other things that they could do to improve their reliability? Do you think this is unnecesary and overly complicated and simply just a waste of time? Please, do let me know, I am interested to see what others think! Thanks for getting this far if you read all that!

Hi all, This is one of my hail Mary's at the moment, as i am trying to upgrade my Dad's PC, we brought an SSD i migrated all the data and backed it up to my external drive. So this morning I had run the checks and thought i had set the boot drive to the SSD (i didn't) so when i wiped the hard drive it just crashed on me, obviously. SO now after a couple of hours of messing around and trying fixes, i have a HDD with a new installation of windows and SSD with all my data on it. And no data management tool seems to let me move the SSD data to the HDD so i can go back to square one almost. Any help would be massively appreciated Oli
