I hope LTT takes a look at iOS 13 soon, and then maybe this issue will get some traction in tech media because I find it maddening. iOS has never had a native solution to simply schedule "Do not Disturb" mode at various times. You can set one schedule that will occur at the same time every day. Have classes at different times on different days? Too bad. My Nokia from 2007 had more functionality. With Automation within the Shortcuts app that is now native to iOS, there was a glimmer of hope this would be corrected. But, no. If you set up a "Script" in "Automations" to turn on Do Not Disturb mode at a certain time, all that happens is a notification shows up from the shortcuts app that will turn on Do Not Disturb if you select it; the phone will ring as normal if there is no input. Location-based triggers do the same thing. That simply isn't automation.

Hi guys I'm trying to make an automation using Macro Express to open up Teams chat to a specific user and send in a chat with a premade message like "I'm contacting you regarding your issue etc etc" using the IM: URL Protocol. I got it to work but I don't know what parameters I need to use to have a message be set. What I'm doing in Macro Express is I'm setting a program launch and then the program/path name is set to "im:user_email@something.com". But if I set it up like cisco jabber like "im:user_email@something.com;?message;body=test;" it doesn't work. Any help is much appreciated!

Hi Guys, In my work im creating simple robots to cut some manual work for the company i work for. For that im using mostly Sikulix and excel makros. Are you aware of any other simple programs like that, that are freeware and will allow to use python or c++ combined with some sort of pixel reading from the screen?

Has anyone had any experience with the Windows Assessment and Deployment Kit? I wanted to create an automatic install of Windows, so I didn't have to install all of my software every time I reinstalled Windows. I only found one tutorial that explained how to create an automated installer, but I stumbled on some of the latter steps.

Hai, I have little experience in windows virtualization (Hyper v). I want to learn more and I am from India , I am planning to built a home lab. So can you guys suggest me a good and cheapest way to built a lab. configuration which is enough to do test and further studies in virtualization and automation. and can somebody suggest me online sites or links to purchase parts for lab (Like EBay.in). and also a way to learn deep enough to be a good professional. refurbished or used parts is also ok with me just need to be functional. I heard using dual Intel Xeon Six-Core X5650 processor can build a good lab environment. Is it good enough? , If it is then please can anybody suggest me further products which must include with these like which motherboard fan etc...

Also to vegan connoisseurs, stop trying to make vegan burgers happen. It's not going to happen. *I know there's already a vegan burger named "impossible burger" and several other meat replacement burgers like soy or mushroom burgers. It's just a parody of a mean girls meme. Get over it. Sources: SF Eater, Forbes, Tech Crunch (YouTube Video), Creator At the moment, they are selling $6 per burger which is fine for the price and from the looks of it, it looks delicious. I like mine with grilled or caramelized onions. Creator says that they use robots to perfect techniques of cooking like how done it is or is the heat enough to create grill marks. Afterwards, the machine is there to catch the cooked patty and place the seasonings and dressings the person wants like mustard, mayo, etc. As per SF Eater, Creator claims that they have use ingenious minds like engineers and roboticists to perfect their robot. So take that Wendy's baconator and all of your savage tweets . So you might ask, do they still employ people? And the answer is yes they still do. From the iPhones and Apple Watches the staff uses to take orders, I wonder if they can get their ROI in a few months. I'm guessing they're using older iPhones like the iPhone 7+ and older Apple Watches. I'm fine with iPhones but Apple Watches? Seriously? They have to bring it up to their face just to get notified. The actual process: Oh boy I feel hungry while making this thread. And there's the issue of technology making people unemployed. While it's true that as technology improves, employment decreases but only to an extent. When old jobs disappear, new jobs appear. I don't think this robot that took lots of money will be replacing human cooks and waiters anytime soon even though the idea is not far fetched. Maybe Creator wants more exposure and wants Linus to cover it.

Hello Linusites, I used to work with this guy who was able to push a button and the mouse would do all these predefined actions. He did this to become more efficient and not have to rewrite certain answers over and over. All I knew was that he used some scripts that he put into this program and made it work. Anybody know what programs do this now a days. I've searched but maybe I'm not using the correct keywords. Any help would be great. Thank you in advance.

On the topic of "jobs and fields that won't be replaced by automation", a philosophy degree is apparently still going to be relevant for a while. https://qz.com/1204395/self-driving-cars-trolley-problem-philosophers-are-building-ethical-algorithms-to-solve-the-problem/ «Artificial intelligence experts and roboticists aren’t the only ones working on the problem of autonomous vehicles. Philosophers are also paying close attention to the development of what, from their perspective, looks like a myriad of ethical quandaries on wheels. The field has been particularly focused over the past few years on one particular philosophical problem posed by self-driving cars: They are a real-life enactment of a moral conundrum known as the Trolley Problem. In this classic scenario, a trolley is going down the tracks towards five people. You can pull a lever to redirect the trolley, but there is one person stuck on the only alternative track. The scenario exposes the moral tension between actively doing versus allowing harm: Is it morally acceptable to kill one to save five, or should you allow five to die rather than actively hurt one?» «Rather than pontificating on this, a group of philosophers have taken a more practical approach, and are building algorithms to solve the problem. Nicholas Evans, philosophy professor at Mass Lowell, is working alongside two other philosophers and an engineer to write algorithms based on various ethical theories. Their work, supported by a $556,000 grant from the National Science Foundation, will allow them to create various Trolley Problem scenarios, and show how an autonomous car would respond according to the ethical theory it follows.» «he hopes the results from his algorithms will allow others to make an informed decision, whether that’s by car consumers or manufacturers. Evans isn’t currently collaborating with any of the companies working to create autonomous cars, but hopes to do so once he has results. Perhaps Evans’s algorithms will show that one moral theory will lead to more lives saved than another, or perhaps the results will be more complicated. “It’s not just about how many people die but which people die or whose lives are saved,” says Evans. It’s possible that two scenarios will save equal numbers of lives, but not of the same people.» «One of the hallmarks of a good experiment in medicine, but also in science more generally, is that participants are able to make informed decisions about whether or not they want to be part of that experiment,” he said. “Hopefully, some of our research provides that information that allows people to make informed decisions when they deal with their politicians.»

Hey Forum, A little introduction to this question. Everyday i have a 40 minute train ride to work(40 minutes back as well). To make the ride more enjoyable I'd put my favorite series on my phone, I'd store like 8 episodes which conveniently also take 40 minutes each. I really want to make this task easier. So is there an app that sees if I have seen the episode, with the VLC App. Then deletes it and will store 8 new episodes on my phone over WIFI? Thanks in advance

So much for those rumours about him going to Samsung/Intel or whatever. Hey, maybe they will use some AMD APUs now The real questions is if they will bring the manufacturing of chips in-house or not. If so, MobilEye will lose a pretty big client. Edit: Forgot source -.- http://electrek.co/2016/01/28/tesla-jim-keller-apple-processor-architect-2/

So school is starting up quite soon and Id figure I wanted to kickstart my brain with some small scripting projects to get my mind out of "summer vacation". And while setting my my home SSH server I found an interesting idea. Being on residential internet, I cannot have a static ip. I even tried "persuading" (complaining) to my ISP and nope. granted it doesn't change that too often but I need on demand access to my server throughout the year. my solution right now involves running a script daily checking for ip changes and emailing it to myself if it does change. that part was simple enough. now being the incredibly lazy person I am, I want to be able to write a script that can retrieve and parse my mail on the client end, and on the fly update my ssh config file So i don't have to manually type the address. Though cannot seem to find a simple enough utility that can at least get a list of emails. anyone have ideas?

This is actually a fairly neat setup, I'm tempted to give it a go since I have a fair amount of home automation tech already, especially my security system, so it would be a decent exercise to see how well an all in one system like this would actually work. Curious to see how well the router end of things are. The home automation stuff is generally not THAT complicated on the underside, the router tech however. If this is actually a very good router, it would make for a great purchase for those who aren't swapping out routers or other components all the time. http://www.engadget.com/2015/04/01/almond-home-automation-routers/ http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00R0C2U5E/

This is just an interesting video I wanted to share, I promise it's worth watching if you like tech (if not, what are you doing here? :D) I can't say it didn't pass through my mind that this is fake at first, but I do believe it is definitely possible... it just needs A LOT of patience and playing around, mostly with Tasker's AutoVoice feature . https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/athom/homey-the-living-room-talk-to-your-home This is a new (dutch) Kickstarter project to integrate a whole bunch of automation protocols and other usefull protocols into a single device that works like Google Now. It sounds amazing in my ears and I hope they reach that 100k and I hope this will be that breakthrough we really need in Home automation to make it accesible and usable for the general public.

Hi guys, Just putting this here in case he misses it: @Ghost As the title says, is there a way to set up my pump to speed up when I use my PC more (such as when I am gaming or whatever) and to slow down when I am just browsing the web/watching youtube? I would not want it running at 100% or whatever speed I set it to all the time as, in my mind, that would decrease it's overall life span. I imagine there may be software to do this. Thanks, Vitalius

So Linus fitted Insteon home appliances... you might want to reconsider.. :/ http://www.eteknix.com/total-stranger-hacks-a-smart-house-and-takes-control-of-all-devices-in-the-house/ Insteon has a huge security leak leaving automated homes vulnerable to attack. Linus, you better watch out!
