Nowhere is there is there is there refernce to them just not being actually 2tb, and are an outright scam

Edit: this is worse as imo, these videos are aimed at a less hardcore tech audience compared to their normal vids, like imagine someone watching this to shop for gifts, sees this as a cheap alternative, and buys one. that would suck

Yeah, it really is a very poor showing when they've been openly against this kind of business model in the past and very much rightly so! Given that, I don't know what they can do at this point beyond saying 'We won't work with these guys again. Sorry we didn't realise you would feel this way.' because it's a bit mind-boggling to think that nobody would have brought up how bad this would look. YouTube and Floatplane comments seem to be full of people feeling the exact same way. Are they going to do this again but with a different sponsor who does the same thing?

I seem to recall it was in there but very quickly and swept under the bed so to speak. They had a few sponsored videos I'd already seen that week and had checked them out which is how I first came across the subscription issue. So when I saw the sponsor disclaimer for the LTT video I was listening out for any mention of it. It really did feel like it was worded in such a way so that it would be very easy to miss as you must have done and I assume a lot of other people would have too.

Had to make an account just to say something about this Eightsleep sponsorship. First product I've actually been interested in only to find out
    1. It's over $2,000. (WHAT?!)
    2. It's still not yours after you pay way too much for it.

And given how vocal Linus has been over cloud based services for stuff that shouldn't be (I'm mostly remembering the lightswitches or something in the house project?), I lost a lot of respect for LMG as a whole for the hypocrisy in promoting something like this. You all knew what was up with this product and promoted it anyway.

Just saw this comment on the Reddit thread in regards to EightSleep that reminded me of the company Luke was having a go at on the WAN Show a while back. I don't think he named them but yeah it does make it a bit worse given they'd had first-hand experience and grievances with the product and company:

Glad people are already complaining about the eightsleep sponsorship (Pitboy64 covered a lot of good points). I guess I will add my voice as well. I was super interested in this product, but the whole subscription BS was an immediate WTF. At a glance, their model seems just as, if not more predatory than some of the companies Linus has complained about in the past. Not only is this sponsorship out of line with LMG's principles in general, but it also seems like especially poor taste given Linus's recent rant about cloud/subscription-based automatic floor cleaners on the WAN show. Linus gets so mad when people "question his integrity", but weird stuff like this happens semi-regularly. If he wants his integrity and his company's integrity to be treated as one and the same, he needs to uphold them to the same degree. It isn't like Eightsleep hid this aspect of the product. It is immediately visible when you follow the link in the video description. Either someone on the team did an incomplete job of vetting the sponsor, and Linus NEVER EVEN LOOKED AT THE PAGE THEIR SPONSORED LINK GOES TO, or he knew about it and produced the entire video anyway. This sort of haphazard commitment to upholding the principles he constantly exhorts is why "trust me bro" isn't good enough. I genuinely admire what he has accomplished and I am so excited for the next phase of LMG with the Lab included, but I hope the new CEO will take a more professional and consistent approach to upholding LMG's ideals.

Yeah, this was probably the first time I clicked on an ad in a very long time because it actually seemed like an interesting product that, while I'm currently single, when I have been partnered, has been a huge issue. I figured it wouldn't be cheap but could be a worthwhile investment for a one-time upfront cost but $3000 plus an ongoing subscription for nothing that I can see that can't be run locally.

Just woke up here down under and catching up on the strategies in the thread. I've diverted CPU from yoyo to Numbers now but before I switch GPU over to Einstein, is the current thinking, I should be selecting only Meerkat or keeping everything checked?

Far from an expert as this is my first time being involved in these kinds of challenges but I've been getting that message when it's being used elsewhere by the system. Maybe check your settings as to what parameters have been set for pausing activity based on GPU usage?

I also enjoyed the mastering discussion though I was a little bit unsure about Linus' take on there being more film grain in the Blu Ray copy being a sign of a bad master. A lot of Blu Ray reviews specifically look for film grain being kept intact and not either being smoothed out intentionally or just getting lost to compression.

It's one of the easiest things I find to look for when trying to find good quality digital copies of shows or films. If you can see grain or even noise, the bitrate should generally be high enough to retain other fine details. But if it's kinda smoothed or has turned into larger squares (ie. blockiness) then it's probably worth trying to find a higher bitrate version.

Oh my word, it works. So it really seems to have just been a bad Windows driver. Turns out it was about 7 years out of date and wouldn't update so I uninstalled the device and ran the utility downloaded from Realtek's website. iperf gives 2.35Gb both ways and I'm able to copy files to the NAS at full speed. I can't test the other way at the moment presumably due to limitations of my hard drives whereas copying to the NAS goes via the RAM. Hopefully I'll have good news when I put in my new hard drives in a couple of weeks.

I know this is a bit offtopic but this is the second time that transcoding benchmark shows that the pointless extra resolution on 4K Floatplane causes compatibility issues. It's been a serious sticking point for those of us who try to watch on TVs. And it's not the aspect ratio. The 2160x1080 file clearly does just fine.

Can we please stop using it and go with, in Anthony's words in the M1 Studio video, consumer 4K so that the number of us for whom this over-4K resolution breaks compatibility can actually watch in the resolution we paid for? Or at least give us that extra option if you want to preserve 4320x2160 for people who have 8K TVs or something. Not that they're really getting any benefit since your cameras only shoot DCI 4K anyway (4096x2160).

Well, I gave that a go just now and lo and behold, I was getting 2.35Gb/s both ways so it seems like the hardware is all working fine. I didn't test the weirdness that was going on with the NAS motherboard's ethernet come to think of it, however. Is this likely to be a driver issue, then? If so, on which side?
Ah it would seem that this is indeed the case so probably a Windows issue that may or may not be fixable?
