    So for someone who is already invested in X299, how smart would it be to switch everything over to TRX40?

     

    X299 upgrade path allows up to the 10980XE but I haven't found one in stock yet. As for longevity, X299 might be at the end of the road. EOL soon? One more refresh? Who knows. I haven't found much information on whats next for X299.

     

    Switching over to TRX40 would require a new motherboard and I would only be purchasing the 3960X. I don't see it going EOL anytime soon and you get PCIE 4.0 and Gen 4 NVME. Nothing to scream about but nice to have.

     

    Honest thoughts and opinions welcome!

      I can do pretty much everything fine with X299. I guess the better question is what is Intel going to do with X299.The only benefit I see switching over to TRX40 is  PCIE 4.0 and Gen 4 NVME but as I said nothing to scream about but nice to have.

      My local micro center has the 10900X and 10920X. Last time I asked about the 10980XE they couldn't give me a direct answer to when it would be carried. At B&H most X299 cpus are back ordered and have been for awhile now.

       

      You're right though and I agree with you. I just wanted someone else's opinion on it. Now speaking of that 7980XE, did you delid yours?

    Not sure what to do.

     

    I spent the past 2 months messing around with different build configurations but got nowhere with it.   

     

    A. Re-build my X99 Rig with a 6950X (I already have multiple X99 motherboards sitting around/Cheapest 6950X is $779) 

     

    B. Build a 2700X build with a 1080Ti 


    C. Build a Z370  build with a 1080Ti

     

    D. Possibly build a high end X299 build

     

    Or 

     

    Z. Wait for the new 9th gen stuff and see how that plays out. 

     

    I'm not just gaming but also streaming, editing, using a daw, etc..

    Did AMD ever give out the release date for the Threadripper 2920X? 

     

    One article mentioned October but I would like to double check.

    Its interesting that this could even happen lol So far I have had zero issues. Everything runs fine with XMP on or off.

    With no xmp enabled, it boots up without any issues. Speed shows 2133

    It only showed one XMP profile in the bios. 3200, 16-18-18-38 1.35V

    Difference between the 1070 Ti and a 1080 is $60. 

     

    What do you guys think?

     

    Is the the 1080 really worth the extra $60?

      I would say yes, always get the better GPU if you can afford it. 

       

      It won't be day and night difference, but it's there. Especially if you have an FPS counter up when you play.

      I mean I would get Vega 64, the Asus Strix version but its $799..

    I was thinking of rebuilding my X99 rig with a 5960X and comparing it to my 2700X.. 

     

    Kinda wondering how the processors would compare against each other

    4.3Ghz, 1.475v, Memory 3333Mhz 

     

    Also, VRM temps for the M7 stayed around 50c-55c, thanks to the Cryorig A80 Hybrid AIO!

      4.4Ghz at 1.5v is a no go. That's pretty much as far as I am going go. At the end of the day, I'm pretty impressed with the 2700X. 

       

      I do have to wonder if having a X470 motherboard would change anything?

      It does but at the same time I wouldn't run 4.3Ghz with 1.475v on the daily. That's a bit to high for me personally

      Here's my 1700@3.9GHz and 2933MHz@16CL, dual rank memory if anybody wanted to compare it to last gen :P.

      I'm going to have to mess with overclocking later on tonight, as for cooling it seems like that the new ryzen chips are pretty temperature sensitive when it comes to XFR 2 and Precision Boost 2. 

       

      I've seen higher boosts under a 240mm aio, second highest was with the H7 Quad Lumi and lowest was with the wraith spire prism. 

       

      A 240 is more than enough if  you want to go the aio route, well at least with my aio lol
