Aaaaand I am back once again after a long AFK, but “Good news everyone” since I am finally getting my life on track and I should hopefully have more “me” time starting next week. I won't get into what I've been through since its personal, but luckily I've gotten past a lot of bullshit. For now though its time to start working on Plan B again and really giving it a revamp( I also have a few more short term build logs coming up soon so watch out for those ).

During my AFK time I've really thought about this machine and what I want it to be, and in short I want an elegant, functional piece of art. The wood paneling and black interior will be the main focus of this build, however I'm focusing on the little details too, like screws. I hate the way standard PC screws look, to me they look cheap and painting them black barely helps, but I have a solution to this:

I got stainless steel since they were on sale, however I plan on getting regular steel(?) black ones since they will fit the build better. I got these for other builds and test fitting, and they were a total success so I'm going to get more.

I'm also going to do the rainbow 24 pin like so:

This is just an example I made, my ideal cable wont look like this. Sleeving is very popular and pretty easy, however I really don't like the way it looks. Instead I'm trying to source HV thick insulation wire, which should give a cleaner look.

And that's all for now, I've disbanded my RAID aray on my old motherboard so I can finally remove it from the case.

We've had quite a busy week! Apologies for the lack of photos, but here's a cluster I think you'll find interesting.
In this picture, we have some prototype parts on racks, already powder coated, and ready to go into the kiln. This is actually one of the final steps in the process, and takes place just before assembly.     And here you have the controls for the kiln. The top modules control temperature, which is held very steady as the paint is cured. Note that the powder coatings themselves are dry as they enter the oven, and dry as they come out, however - the temperature is what causes it (the powder) to chemically react, and bind temporarily, creating the coating.

    Prologue
Maybe you remember the big project a 15 years old Lucas planned some years ago.
Too great visions and to much confidence about that future sponsors would come.
I really put myself in a bad position, which I have regret so many times
There I was, with one of the biggest cases I've ever seen, what was I supposed to do?

I have built some mid-sized systems, some smaller ones, and some even smaller. To be able to decide what fits me the most, why not try something extreme?
With an SMH10 from Caselabs, it can't go wrong. I can promise that not only will the looks be awesome, but also the power of it! During fall I will also host a modding-series at Nvidias youtube-channel which I am very hyped about!

The computer is called Green, which is a part of the project, although the project include a much more. I want to create my dream gaming-cave!
Below you can find the specs of the computer, and what I am supposed to do.

Janssent11041 reacted to Complx in Node - 3D Printed Case
    Hi all,

A couple of updates on the status of the Node, nothing to crazy.  So I traveled to Portland, OR for PDXLAN 26.  Had a blast there, I entered the Node in the CPUMag Case mod competition, I took 5th place and was up against some very tough competition.

After that I was off to Dallas TX for Quakecon 2015.  Again, I entered the Node into the Modders INC Scratch Build competition, unfortunately I didn't place in that competition at all.

A lot of people were very interested in the case and had a lot of good things to say.  I'm VERY happy with the reception of the case overall, makes all the time and effort worth it!

After both events I was informed I won Bit-tech's Mod of the month for June!  http://forums.bit-tech.net/showthread.php?t=287885

For those wondering about the status of the project, after Quakecon, I handed the case over to my buddy at Hexagon PC so he could do all the sleeving for the case.  Once it is done, he will be shipping the case back to me and I can start the rigid tubing for it.

I want to thank Hexagon PC for the sleeving, he does great work!

Thanks everyone!  Stay tuned for more!

Hey all - in lieu of our relative silence, I figured I could share this aside since I found it very interesting: on HF, I joked a day or so ago that we would only be manufacturing Nova in beige - only to have a bunch of people say that they actually like the idea of a "retro" version of the case.
I countered by making a "Nostalgia Edition" of the KI logo:     Which then expanded to a few more versions, all of which are inspired by logos and styles used by real computer companies in the 1980s (see if you can figure out all three ):       Of course, we won't actually be doing a beige version (at least for now), but it was fun to re-imagine our own insignia in that early era of computing.

"This unique case disrupts the traditional concept of a PC case, splits components into three cabins; three high hardness “V” shape metal frames and full metal shells ensure Tristellar has a reliable and solid structure, the system is not only for an artistic appearance, but also a great cooling performance by separating the most heat-generating parts of a PC. The case supports the latest gaming configuration, it is an excellent choice for gamer or PC builder who want a case with both high performance and aesthetics."

Last nights installation of Windows 7 went smoothly, just it took two tries since I'm an idiot. I used my usual USB stick which is loaded with Win7 Home Premium, but for this build I needed Win7 Professional, so yeah I spent an hour installing the wrong OS lol. It was worth it though, not only have I not ran into any glitches*, but my new graphics card recognized within seconds. Actually, there was one glitch, but its just one of those #justamdthings kind of glitches, lol:

But anyways, I got off of work early today which means two things: 1, I'm probably going to get canned soon. and 2, its time to get out my tools

I know this $20 case is crap, but with some little "adjustments" I can make it a little less crappy... lol. The front panel is very airflow restrictive, but that can be fixed easily with my Dremel on steroids.

Kinda hard to see, but you can see the vent is not much of a vent:

better view from the back side, but eww its dusty:

    a few trims later aaaand:

A little butchered I know, but the results are pretty good:

So was it worth it? I have no idea, I haven't done any thermal testing yet. As I'm typing this I can tell the CPU fan is idling with a lower RPM, so hopefully I get the same results under load. Also I did have more stuff planned for today, but my work got cut short when my neighbors came over complaining about the noise. Funny that the party animals are the ones complaining...

If you look back at the first picture(with the tools), you will notice that I have a piece of blue electrical tape covering the power LED. I did this since it was the quickest way of covering up that F***ing bright LED, but the tape reduced the brightness and actually made it look better(not as plasticy), so I thought I would make it look a little better:

tape, light, tape on the light:

    and finished:

Overall I'm pretty happy with my butchered front panel, its now less annoying and hopefully will increase performance, but that's all I have for now. I have a small list of things that I want to do on the lovebox before I work on the HP again, which I might as well list:
New HDD cage, the original one is crap. potential water cooling, mostly want to test out that ghetto radiator I made. more trimming on the case: the fan grills are just terrible. I might also want to add another fan too, and a "cheap as possible" Window mod would be fun. I won't be able to do any of that^ tomorrow, but I probably can this weekend.

seems like they have had problems getting them in stock since the launch of the 980ti (EK using titan x blocks for 980ti)
I don't like that EK chose to go this route, the TITAN X engraving bothers me more than it should...

soon I can paint the case

Awesome news: I'm happy to share that we've signed on with a manufacturer, and greenlit them to make pre-production test units of our final design! This will culminate in a few cases straight off the manufacturing line, that will more or less represent what [REDACTED] will look like in production. It's one of the most important (and final) preparatory steps to make, and it's what we've been waiting to begin for some time now.

Beyond giving us an opportunity to test and verify the design and its functionality (as well as perform various quality and other checks), this work also gives our manufacturer the opportunity to actually make the case, and look for places to simplify the design or streamline how they'll produce [REDACTED] at scale.

Needless to say, stuff’s starting to get really exciting!
