I got a message from from fake LinusTechTips youtube channel. It will come up as this youtube channel https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCIUebATQGEQnK-gR-RpmFVw?feature=em-message_received and reads as Linus TechTips. I was just wondering if anyone else got this and to warn others. It informs you that you have supposedly won a giveaway. It sends you a link that I didn't click on, but most likely either takes your info or puts a virus on your computer. I hope no one has to figure out what is at that link

@LinusTech you are needed for reports

Yes, the 6300 sounds ok. You could put some money into a good cooler (in case you don't have one already and do some mild overclocking with that thing... depending on your motherboad. But even at stock I'll be fine for years.

But im sure it will be fine, it will probably default to lower like 1333 or 1600

2133 mHz sticks will just run 1600 or 1866 or 2000mHz, Or it just might require a bios update or the product details might just lie. It will work, I'd say likely at it's orginal speed, but atleast 1866.

Yeah, it worked perfectly! Here are some pics I managed to take.

My phone camera has a serious focus problem, but there are couple good ones too. And I didn't take a before picture of my temps, but they were around 85 to 90 under full load, aroud 70 rendering a video, 29 to 31 on idle (ambient temps 23C) All the temps in celsius, don't get confused.

Big thanks for everyone who helped me do this! You're awesome at making me void a warranty

Alright, the Liquid Ultra arrived. Now it's just a matter of doing it. I got a vice, hammer piece of wood, that needs a bit of smoothing, and some silicone and the TIM. And some AS5 left for the IHS. I'll propably set everyting up and fire up my laptop for uploading photos as I make progress during the weekend. About to possibly destroy a 300€ chip. Scared and confident at the same time.

Any last minute advise is appreciated!

Yes, you'll just end up splitting the chip in half

What a shame to lose your warranty just to put mx-4 in there. Really, put some liquid pro/ultra between that thing.

@Pulunen, well, I just used some clear paint on the SMD parts to be sure. And with good reason. I also spread it thin, but when i recently removed the cap it still went outside the chip area.

Really, if you're not using liquid ultra/pro. Don't bother. Gelid GC Extreme is 8.5w/mk. Liquid Ultra is 38.4w/mk. See what i'm saying?..

i got mx4 on my chip and IHS with no issues i run the thing at 1.35v just to get 4.3GHZ the processor i got really is quite shit lol max temps are around 80-85 in aida 65

i did the vice method btw took a couple whacks just make sure you place a bucket on the other end with something soft to catch it just incase

edit: i did this to a 4670k i mis read the title

I use AS5 on core die and IHS and its not conductive (i have been using it this way since last year) also thermal paste does not "melt".

There are little copper connectors on the chip, don't hit on that side. Make sure you use some sort of insulating or masking tape on the vice to prevent scratching the IHS. Don't force the vice too tightly or you might cause curvature in the IHS, which you have to fix with lapping. Make sure the direction you're hitting at, and the surface around the vice, is padded with towels so it wont hit the wall or floor.

Don't try to whack it off with 1 hit. Just keep tapping and the seal will eventually break without it flying through the room.

And for god sakes, use Liquid Pro/Ultra between the IHS and die or it's absolutely not worth it. (just make sure you put some latex over the SMD parts to prevent shorting).
Liquid Pro/Ultra only hardens when you sandwich it between metal parts, so don't use it on the heatsink/ihs connection!

Also, if you're really scared about doing it to your 300something usd CPU. Buy the cheapest fucking haswell celeron available (G1820) and delid that for practice

So, be prepared for a sleepless night...

It was a regular night. I was watching some documentary in 480p from youtube. I have three monitors, but only the middle one was on, displaying the program. I had a big glass of some cheap cola with ice in front of me. Between me and my Corsair k95. When the documentary got really boring, and I decided to quit watching it, I raised my right arm to turn on the monitor left of my middle monitor. And a disaster strikes. The glass of soda is all over my desk, mainly on the almost new keyboard. Computer is going crazy, programs opening by themselves.
When I realized what had happened, I turned the keyboard upside down, and unplugged it. The computer stopped doing crazy stuff. I had a very expensive and very dead keyboard that cost me almost two months salary. (coz I'm a poor student living home and not spoiled by my parents) I spent the whole night up trying to dry it. I disassembled it, carefully drained all the liquid inside. I had to take apart the section where the macro/lighting mode keys are, because the substance had got between the two contact surfaces under the buttons.
In the morning I plugged the keyboard in. It worked. Backlighting worked just fine. But when I tried to write my password, I couldn't press the buttons. They were stuck. With some amount of force I got them moving, but mainly unusable for writing or gaming. not all of the switches were stuck, Only some on the left side of the keyboard. wasd was stuck, esc was stuck, all the G-keys were stuck, Left control, shift and Alt were stuck. And a couple keys around them.

At this point I promised to myself to never again drink or eat anything, or keep liquids or food on my pc desk. I arranged a side desk that is lower than my pc desk for food and other substances that may be harmful for electronic devices.

I was NOT going to put the keyboard into dishwasher. Or submerge it into anything. Taking apart the key mechanisms, turned out to be impossible without soldering, because of the led's. I stayed up the next night reading stuff about cleaning mechanical key switches from the internet. Q-tips soaked in rubbing alcohol do nothing for me. De-soldering and replacing the switches is the last option, I could totally do that, the switches just aren't quite inexpensive enough for me, and there is always a risk of doing something very wrong and ending up with totally useless keyboard.

Methods that I'm using now to free the the switches: 1:1 mix of warm water and rubbing alcohol, that I place inside the mechanism with a drinking straw. Then just spam the switch for a minute or so. Then I leave them do dry for a couple of days. Finally I try to find some lube that does not conduct electricity or destroy plastic, and carfully apply it inside the switches.

I know that I'm not the only person who has done this. And many still will do the same.
It would really help if Linus or one of his crew members tested mechanical keyboard/keyswitch cleaning methods and published some sort of video guide about it.
Please share your own keyboards survival through liquid spill if it has survived.

PJ out, thanks for your mental support.

OMFG! oh yes! The soap water eliminated the sickyness! I'll leave it dry completely (just in case it hasn't already) and hope that it's still working after all this torture. Horror story has a thrilling grand finale...

Thanks for your tips and support guys, they really helped!
