  1. For what it is worth, the increased cache would lessen the benefits of overclocked memory. AMD also specifies 3200MHz memory: https://www.amd.com/en/products/cpu/amd-ryzen-7-5800x3d while Intel specifies 4800MHz memory: https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/products/sku/225916/intel-core-i912900ks-processor-30m-cache-up-to-5-50-ghz/specifications.html They already went overboard with memory clocks for both of them, although in Intel’s case, the memory clock speed was within JEDEC’s specification, while in AMD’s case, the memory was over locked beyond JEDEC’s specification.
  2. The 12900KS is a factory overclocked 12900K.
  3. There is something wrong with the game if it is sending data over the PCI-E bus after level loads.
  4. The graphics cards are not being bottlenecked by fewer PCI-E lanes. Level load times might be higher, but that is it. Once things are loaded into VRAM, the bandwidth requirements are negligible.
  5. PCI-E 3.0 still does not matter for games. A 4x PCI-E 4.0 would be equivalent to a 16x PCI-E 2.0. I am not sure if the steam deck supports PCI-E 4.0, but even if it does not, the bandwidth requirements once things are loaded into VRAM are small.
  6. Very few games would need a stronger CPU than what the steam deck has. ETA Prime picked the outliers.
  7. I had said that too, but upon seeing your NVMe slot remark, I thought it *might* be possible with a bridge chip: https://www.jmicron.com/products/list/13 Those should give PCI-E over USB 3, provided that the OS has driver support for them.
  8. Probably never since the steamdeck does not have thunderbolt. He had to open it up to access the M.2 slot to do this. It is likely a possibility for a Steam Deck 2. I do not expect to see a Steam Deck 3 unless people at Valve call it Steam Deck Alyx.
  9. Summary ETA Prime has installed a discrete GPU (RX 6900 XT) in his steam deck via the M.2 slot. He booted Windows 11 off a SD card since the M.2 slot was no longer available for storage. The steam deck CPU had good performance, but the steam deck was CPU bound in a few poorly optimized titles like God of War. ETA Prime said that he saw higher performance in systems with stronger CPUs. Quotes My thoughts He should have booted SteamOS 3.0 or at least some sort of Linux distribution. It is not very hard to boot any Linux distribution off a SD card on a system that supports booting off SD cards. He just did not ask anyone. Linux uses less CPU resources than Windows according to Valve, so he might have seen higher FPS in those CPU bound games had he done that. Also, Xbox <whatever it is called> and PS5, eat your hearts out. The steam deck can be given a discrete GPU, while they cannot get GPU upgrades without replacing the entire console. Sources
  10. Would the TLDR include news sites having to pay the link tax too? That would be hilarious.
  11. A better translation can at least avoid misunderstandings. It would be one thing to criticize GPD for something that a mistranslation said. It is another thing to criticize GPD for something that they actually said.
  12. The 3300X was amazing in games. A zen 3 version would be equally amazing. Plus, the cost savings from a quad core would help with buying a GPU. AMD would rather be paid more for the CPU though.
  13. Summary AMD added a feature to the Windows driver that automatically over clocks Ryzen CPUs. It was supposed to be optional, but a bug is causing it to be active even when it is not supposed to be. Quotes My thoughts Given that the official line is that overclocking voids the warranty, this means that AMD’s software is effectively voiding warranties despite the user doing nothing wrong. Those of us using Linux do not have to worry about this. Sources https://www.tomshardware.com/news/amd-confirms-its-gpu-drivers-are-overclocking-cpus-without-asking
  14. It is a synthetic benchmark that does not reflect real world workloads.
  15. I blame AMD. They did not ship any Zen 3 quad core CPUs (ignoring the ones with integrated graphics).
  16. This site seems to have a copy of the binary. https://www.techspot.com/downloads/7251-nvidia-rtx-voice.html
  17. It is probably rather late for this, but I made an improved translation: The length of 30 cm and the large volume are far from the definition of handheld. The Steam deck with a 7-inch screen is a full 1/3 larger than the WIN Max 2021 with an 8-inch screen. The battery capacity is small, only 40Wh, while the battery capacity of WIN 3 is 46Wh and the battery capacity of WIN Max 2021 is 57Wh. Thunderbolt 4 is not supported, the application scenario is single, and only games can be played. There are many uncertainties, such as whether there is corresponding driver support after installing Windows 10. For example, whether the 2230 SSD can be replaced (Steam officially said it is not suitable for replacement), and what is the compatibility? I have studied Chinese in the past, but I was never very good at it. I ended up relying on DeepL's translation tools, Google translate, the original translation and a bit of common sense to work out a better translation. That was painful. Note that the original translation omitted some sentences that are present in my version. Also, the improved translation makes it clear why a number of replies seemed to be by people convinced by the post. When it does not have terrible translation errors in every other sentence, the argument at least sounds convincing to the ignorant.
  18. Revisit 16K gaming using a RTX 3090 sed these: http://stage.siig.com/displayport-1-4-to-hdmi-adapter-8k.html https://www.lg.com/us/tvs/lg-65nano99una-8k-uhd-tv It should do many times better than the 1FPS from using multiple Nvidia graphics cards the last time from not needing to communicate over NVLink, having more memory bandwidth and having more memory. The only downside is that the TVs are capable of 120Hz and the adapters are not designed to do more than 8k at 60Hz. I cannot find adapters that allow 8K 120Hz and I cannot find any 3090 cards with 4x HDMI 2.1 ports.
  19. For what it is worth, it used to be warmer in the UK several hundred years ago. If you find streets named “Vine Street”, that is because they used to have vineyards on them that required a warmer climate. That being said, everything in this form factor is terribly inefficient, so you cannot go wrong with whatever you choose.
  20. He says it on camera so often that I am curious if he does it off camera too.
  21. Replace the LCD on the original Nintendo Switch with a nicer display before nintendo releases the OLED version.
  22. No. If your NVMe is PCI-E 4.0 x4 and your graphics card has PCI-E 3.0 x16, then there is no way that there could be a bottleneck in PCI-E. You would need to put the graphics card on PCI-E 3.0 x4 or less for it to be possible for PCI-E to bottleneck. To put it in numbers: PCI-E 4.0 x4 = 8GB/sec PCI-E 3.0 x16 = 16GB/sec PCI-E 3.0 x16 = 8GB/sec PCI-E 3.0 x4 = 4GB/sec
  23. The Windows EULA used to have a refund clause, but Microsoft removed it with Windows 10 if I recall.
  24. What monitor do you have? If it is less than 4k or 144Hz, you could upgrade that. Then you would have a reason to upgrade your GPU to something like a GeForce RTX 3080.
