At school today, somebody's phone didn't have much batter life left, so they said this "does anybody have an android cable" another person responded "I don't, i have a windows phone". First off, its called micro usb, second, windows phones use that too...

I posted this as its own thread because i wasn't thinking of this one. This also includes some clarifications.
My sister has been shopping for a laptop for over six months now. At one point she asked me for help, so i spent hours finding great options for her. Last night i found out she had seen a laptop and just gotten it without even telling me. The laptop she got was around the same price as the one i recommended, but it had no gpu, the cpu is half as fast (slightly slower cores and half as many), and it has no backlit keyboard or touchscreen. She will be using it for pretty intensive work, so she really needed those specs. Its not like its way better looking or more portable, its half a pound lighter and has no metal, so it looks way worse. The only reason she gave was that asus has a terrible warranty (which i am pretty sure is false).
The laptop i said was the asus n550jk, she got the lenovo z50. she said it was the same price when she included a warranty, so idk what exact model it was, but it is worse speced.

I was talking to my friend, I said partitioning your drive is kind of like breaking it into two or more smaller drives. The next day I found out he had literally broken his 256gb Samsung ssd into two pieces. I was trying to make him a techie, but after that I just gave up.

sometimes it is only worth it to multiply them and walk away, one of my (not really) friends said his computer was better than mine because it had a 3.4 ghz CPU, and mine was only 2.3 ghz. I just said mine is quad core (his is single core) and said his total is 3.4, mine is 9.2 -

Windows 8 really isn't that bad, I have a windows 7 desktop and a windows 8 laptop, and I like windows 8 more or the same for most things.

Not sure if this really goes here, but i'll do it anyways, apple prices. these are some prices of apple components and products compared to others.
RAM: normal ram is $60-80 for 8gb, apple is $200 for 8gb
Monitor: 2560x1440 standard monitor $300-$600, for apple it is $1000
$1500 laptop: lenovo yoga 2 ($1500 version on website), the macbook pro retina 13 inch. the lenovo has better or the same specs, a touch screen, and can be an almost tablet.
$2600 laptop: new razer blade 14 (with 512gb ssd),{ macbook pro retina 15 inch}. the razer is $100 more, but it has a dedicated gpu, and looks even better than the mbp.
Small tablet: either nexus 7 or lg g pad 8.3, {ipad mini retina}. both androids are cheaper, and around as good. the nexus 7 is slightly worse, but 1/2 the cost.
Large tablet: sony tablet z2, nexus 10, samsung tab pro 10.1, {ipad air}. all are similar price (besides nexus 10), all have better resolution, around as fast.
Smartphone: htc one (m8) or xperia z1 compact or moto x , {Iphone 5s}. the one and z1 have as good build quality as the iphone, the moto x and z1 are almost as small as the iphone, all are higher resolution, moto x is 1/2 cost of Iphone, z1 is waterproof, m8 and z1 have micro sd.

Mao_Zedong reacted to SenKa in Let's hope we don't screw this up... - RED Camera Reassembly Highlights
As @Nystemy said. Having an 8k camera is infinitely useful for them because they only export in 4k, that allows a lot of room for them to make mistakes in shooting and not have to re-shoot. Now, given that LMG content sometimes requires several thousand dollars worth of equipment rentals, not to mention man hour for the hosts and Linus himself a 40k camera quickly begins to make a bit more sense. Lets do some quick math:
LTT does not post their wages on the hiring page, and it would be in CAD so it would be meaningless to me anyways. For the sake of doing maths, lets say $20/Hr (this makes 0 sense as they are almost certainly paid a static wage, but this makes my math easier). Now, lets assume a shoot is 3 hours from beginning to end, which I don't deem unreasonable given the jank nature of many LTT videos. That is $60 out of Linus' pocket for a writer to go shoot something in this scenario, and another $60 for the camera man to actually record, not to mention 3 hours of those people not writing, researching a project, or literally doing anything else related to their job.
Thats fine, $120 worth of LMG time and 3 man hours isn't much, but now say they did that on a 4k camera, and "Oh s*** nobody white balanced the camera". Those numbers just doubled and it's now substantial. Then multiply that by 25 editors and I think you see where I'm going with this. I haven't been in cinematography for a while, but even at my best I occasionally made a stupid mistake like that. Pardon my shitty napkin math, but the point should be somewhat clear.
Could they have gotten a cheaper 8K camera? Probably. But downtime is wasted money and nobody wants that, its the same reason why companies buy thinkpads for their employees. They are not cheap, at all, but they are built with reliability first and everything else second.?♂️

Last time I checked, they had at least 2 of these cameras, so picking one apart for half a year isn't that bad.
And in the larger scheme of things, the 40 grand camera body is not all that expensive, after all, the rest of the stuff fitted to it can easily outweigh the cost of the camera. (objectives, sound recorders, screen, handles, batteries, memory cards, etc) Not to mention the cost of the other production equipment and studio space, in the end, a 40 grand camera isn't all that expensive.
Secondly, there is a whole LTT video in regards to why they bought these cameras, and yes Brandon does state that they are surely overkill for their needs, but also fulfill their needs very neatly.
Then they also have other non RED cameras that are good in their own regard, and if push comes to shove, Linus would have just put it together earlier, or bought one more. After all, it is a business expense and I wouldn't be surprised if they spend 4 grand a year for toilet paper alone, not to mention other trivial expenses that comes with running a media production company with 25+ employees while staring up a video streaming service on the side.
