technology will always advance a huge amount every year. The question you have to ask yourself is if the laptop you have now works well for you and when that answer becomes no, its time to get a new laptop.

What you will need to do is install drivers for your GTX 660 ti and then install network drivers which you can find on your motherboard maker's website.  (can you find ethernet drivers on the disks?)

Why an AMD CPU?  It is simply slower than an i5, which you can adjust to cost the same by choosing slower RAM.
(mobo will be around the same.)
CPU cooler:  The Cryorig H7 is going to be quieter and perform a little better than the Hyper 212, and might look better to some.
GPU:  wait of course,
PSU:  I have not searched, but there seems to be this consensus against the CX series by Corsair.  If there is any concern about it, I recommend choosing something like a SeaSonic S12II 620W (or EVGA G2/ virtually anything not NEX series, which is just first-gen EVGA and not from Superflower or Seasonic for OEM.)

Assuming you'll use the 650 Ti in your signature, that sounds like a good plan.  It's alright at gaming for the most part, but just think this:  "In two weeks I'll be able to get a Titan X in this PC!"  It'll be hard to wait.

I don't understand:
If you wait two weeks, for $80 more you will be able to get the performance of a Titan X: GTX 1070...  its not worth waiting two weeks for it?  It'll also save you a lot of money too

I am guessing that you are going to spend some money, so why the Hyper 212?  Yes, its a very good cooler but might want to consider the CRYORIG H7.  It performs a little better and I think it would add significantly more to the aesthetics of the build.

If you are fine with a Pentium, this build will be able to play MC and for the most part, nearly all games.  Not on max but it is more than capable of playing games and basic stuff.

If you could go up to $400, I could make a superior listing.

yup, I would recommend not buying this build but saving up for $400, you can get a i3 & GTX 950 or i3 and better all-around system.
What I do know is that any modern processor will smash a Q6600...  but at the very least being LGA 1150 there is a possible upgrade scheme, if one wants to keep the motherboard.  Anyway, that's just a difference in priority, I know that the Intel Pentium will get higher FPS at other costs.
Also, the GTX 660 being about a 580 is pretty consistent on that Anand site, I've found lots of them for $100 used...  albeit 560 Tis for $60 if the budget is that tight.

Quad core easily, assuming same architecture.
 
If it's a Q6600 vs the newest Skylake Pentium, I might choose the Pentium.

1.  You probably should add insulation just so it doesn't cut the wires, if it is sharp.  provided that it is metal, all it has to do is touch the case to discharge to the case.
 
2.  You can drill holes in the top or bottom to mount the SSD, as for the HDD I'd recommend trying to use your old drive bay and keeping it in the basement if possible.  If you want the SSD in the basement you could tape it on something.

Also, you can use a 3-pin(on mobo) to Molex if that would be more convenient to you.

And you do know you do not need a dedicated GPU?

I think you will want the ultrawide but get a cheap secondary monitor for monitoring chat and stuff.

Yeah, but I think it would be worth not having to buy a new card if 4K is ever needed.

They should add this to all games...  Then PC Gamers can play with their friends but also dominate in Multiplayer due to certain advantages like K&M, 144Hz, Further view range etc.
 
If the game gets dumbed down to be "fair," I am not interested.
