  1. Budget (including currency): 1000$ Country: Canada Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Gaming and casual use. Other details Hey all, Little back story, I have an original Ryzen build (MSI Gaming Pro Carbon B350, Ryzen 1600 3.8ghz, Vega FE 16gb, 16gb 3200mhz cl16, 250gb ssd, 1tb hdd etc.) it was an excellent computer for the past 4-5 years but Its starting to show its age in some newer games. So recently I purchased a Ryzen 5600x and flashed my bios and that has been a significant improvement but I feel like the board isn't perfectly compatible with the CPU and I have had a couple unexplained BSOD's. I want to upgrade to a B550 Mobo ( MAG B550 TOMAHAWK MAX WIFI on sale for 80$ off atm ) & A new m.2 ssd ( Western Digital 1TB WD Blue SN580 NVMe Internal Solid State Drive SSD - Gen4 ) Also in the cards is a new graphics card but my first question is how much of a performance increase would I see just from the new B550 Mobo / SSD? Next question is my GPU just a massive bottleneck in this situation now? I play esports games at 1080p 144hz but occasionally other titles as well and would like to play anything & everything at 144fps+ at good settings. Looking at the 6700XT or 3070. Are these cards complete overkill for 1080 144hz? I want to go another 3-5 years on this computer after these few upgrades. I am not apposed to used gpus etc. I have been out of the loop on computer hardware for a few years so help is appreciated. Happy Holidays!
  2. You can always keep it for travel purposes or a mult-media computer for your TV etc.
  3. You want to know if its worth it to sell? Do you need a new PC? Is it struggling to play the games you want play? If your upgrading and never going to use the laptop again then yes of course its worth it to sell. Thats a very capable gaming laptop that you should have no problem getting a fair amount of money for, I would say its worth around 850-1000 euro maybe a bit more. Unless its absolutely mint brand new condition then maybe a couple hundred more.
  4. Stay away from anything that says "gaming" if your willing to spend 400.00$ Buy yourself a really nice set of stereo headphones, a headphone amp/dac & a mod mic. If your into all the surround sound stuff there is software that you can download that will do that for you. Checkout massdrop for great headphone choices and prices.
  5. 1. Status Audio CB-1 - Super comfy, sound great for the price. 2. NVX XPT 100's - Very Neutral headphone good for monitoring etc VERY COMFORTABLE 3. Audio Technica M40x w/ HM5 Angled pad mod - You have to do the pad mod to make them good but these sound fantastic for just about anything these are my go to closed back setup when im not using my open back headphones. Gun shots and explosions sound excellent. If you want more info on these headphones or (Senn HD558's, HD6xx/650) I own or have owned all of them and can help with any questions just pm me. https://www.status.co/products/cb1 https://nvx.com/xpt100-studio-over-ear-headphones/ https://www.amazon.com/Audio-Technica-ATHM40x-Professional-Monitor-Headphones/dp/B00HVLUR54/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=m40x&qid=1586042772&sr=8-1 Ear pads: https://www.amazon.com/Replacement-Cushion-earmuff-Brainwavz-Headphones/dp/B06Y262HJ6/ref=sr_1_2?dchild=1&keywords=hm5+angled+pads&qid=1586042839&sr=8-2 OR https://www.amazon.com/Brainwavz-Philips-Replacement-Earpads-Headphones/dp/B00ZY8PGJI/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=hm5+angled+pads&qid=1586042854&sr=8-1 EDIT: If your going open back for the phillips and wait or go with a solid set of closed backs such as the status audio cb1s or m40x w/ pads. @doinurmop I play competitive CSGO and have never felt at a disadvantage with footsteps etc using my m40x with the angled pads they truly are a great all rounder. Do the m40x have the footstep sensitivity as my senn hd558's? No but they are damn good with the angled pads and like i said I never felt at a disadvantage.
  6. Yeah thats a great card for your system, good 1080p performance, I have one of them myself (Asus Dual rx 580 8gb). Also look for a second stick of memory or a new 2 x 8gb kit of memory for dual channel. Just be sure that the card is in good shape and wasn't used for bit coin mining etc be sure it works before you buy it if its used... Your going to want at least 500w but I would recommend a 600-650w PSU so if you plan on using it in a future build you can do so without having to upgrade your psu as well. Anything from a reputable company with at least an 80+ bronze rating should be alot better than what your using at the moment.
  7. Get both? You can find generic branded mousepads that are still really good for like 10-15$.
  8. Hence why I said "MAY" need to update his bios... I must have had a slightly older board when I upgraded my 560ti to the 1060 so going off my experience with similar aged hardware I thought I would mention that to OP sorry for sharing potentially needed information based off my own experience... If I was 100% certain that on a B250 mobo he would need to update his bios I would not have said "MAY" need to...
  9. I never said it was a limiting factor... I was telling OP that with that old of a system he MAY need to update his bios how is that statement not true? Seeing as when I upgraded a GPU on a similar system the bios needed to be updated... Not sure what your trying to get at here?
  10. Sorry ill rephrase that: go for any GPU you want but you may need to update the mobo bios to the newest version fyi.
  11. @Paul499 I wouldnt go with anything to new as you will probably have to flash the bios to the latest version to support any new GPU. I had this problem on a similar build to yours was upgrading the GTX 560ti 1GB card to a GTX 1060 and the bios needed to be flashed to even recognize the new GPU. If your only playing at 1080p and are not to worried about getting 250+ FPS in all your games I would look into a used GTX 970, GTX 1060 , RX 580 , RX 570. These can all be found for quite cheap on craigslist etc and will still crush 1080p games. Do that and get yourself 1 more stick of DDR3 so your running dual channel memory and you should have a great 1080p gaming rig.
  12. 4-500$ USD im asuming which will get you a nice card these days. I have a GTX 970 in my wifes computer and it works great for her sims and light graphic design use its still a very capable 1080p card. Is the best? no but it goes to bat with GTX 1060's, RX 580, RX 570's so dont consider those as any type of upgrade fyi. If you staying at 1080p for the foreseeable future I would go with a RTX 2070 or RX 5700XT If you enjoyed how long you had your 970 for im sure the 2070 will last you just as long and allows you to get into some 1440p/4k gaming if you so choose in the future.
  13. I have a similar issue with my ASUS monitor (MG248Q) once in while when I boot my computer the monitor just wont get the signal from the tower to turn itself on but the computer is fully on just like you said. So what I did was just unplug my monitor (power cable) from the monitor itself and plug it back in and it right away shows the desktop/login screen again. Next time it does this to you try that its not a permanent fix but might be able to help in some situations. Edit: Have you tried using a different connection type HDMI , DisplayPort or DVI?
  14. What games you trying to play? What country you live in? As @LienusLateTips said do you need peripherals?
  15. Not sure if you have checked the support ram list for that motherboard or not but some motherboards will not support certain memory at specific speeds. https://www.gigabyte.com/ca/Motherboard/Z390-AORUS-ELITE-rev-10/support#support-doc I have a B350 AM4 motherboard with trident z rgb memory 2x 8gb 3200 kit and it took about 1.5 years of bios updates to get it to run at 2933 not even 3200 regardless of how I tried to set the timings , voltages etc etc. Before all the updates the memory would not run anything other than default at 2133 and even then I was getting blue screens once in a while etc. So I replaced it with something on the list of approved memory kits and with the latest beta bios I can run my memory at 3200 without issue. I DO NOT use XMP profiles just set the speed to 3200,3600 whatever you want to try and manually put in the voltage that is on the ram modules its usually 1.35v - 1.4v it should say right on the decal. Just leaving timings etc in auto. Start at 2933 and work your way up until your computer wont boot and then step it back one notch and do some stress tests cinebench etc to see if its decently stable. Obviously having the latest bios update helps. Edit: When I built my PC I walked into (now closed) NCIX and just bought the parts over the counter I knew what i wanted but I thought they would at least know that the ram they sold me was not fully compatible with that specific motherboard but obviously they didnt have that knowledge which lead to alot of headaches and me asking the same question you are a couple years back.
  16. PROBLEM FIXED: Please Close thread if needed. After consulting antlion audio they reviewed the sound clip I sent them they said there was a short in the mic cable somewhere. I exchanged the mic at the place of purchase and now it works flawlessly...
  17. It will be better than a $6.00 pair of headphones / headset and for $20.00 if its new (or slightly used) is a decent deal.. BUT To elaborate: It will not sound nearly as good as purchasing a decent set of headphones from a reputable manufacturer and spending $75.00+ dollars. Your clearly not super into audio so you will probably enjoy the Razer headset but just know there is options that sound way better and would be worth looking into once that Razer headset packs it in. Some cheap entry level headphones that are good all rounders are the Status Audio CB-1 & Audio-Technica M40x w/ pad upgrade. Status: https://www.amazon.com/Status-Audio-Closed-Monitor-Headphones/dp/B01BDX1IVW/ref=sr_1_1?crid=3I02EQJ68FK3L&keywords=status+audio+cb-1&qid=1561221566&s=gateway&sprefix=status+a%2Caps%2C219&sr=8-1 Audio-Tech: https://www.amazon.com/Audio-Technica-ATH-M40x-Professional-Monitor-Headphones/dp/B00HVLUR54/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=audio+technica+m40x&qid=1561221585&s=gateway&sr=8-3 Pads: https://www.amazon.com/Replacement-Memory-Angled-EarPads-Cushion/dp/B07BKSW8GF/ref=sr_1_4?keywords=angled+hm5+pads&qid=1561221602&s=gateway&sr=8-4 NOTE: if you ever purchase the audio technica headphones you MUST swap the pads to the ones i posted the stock ones are very uncomfortable and ruin the sound imo. Cheers.
  18. This for anyone that works in trades or frequently has to use hearing protection and is not satisfied with the comfort. I was so tired of wearing my hearing protection as the stock pads just dig into the side of your head and after a 12 hour shift I would get headaches. I had an extra set of stock hm5 pads from my XPT 100’S and saw they were a similar size and went for it. The hearing protection I have was the “3M Peltor Optime 101” but this should work with almost any 3M Peltor hearing protection. The only option 3m makes that is just as comfortable is almost 60$ for Camelback branded gel pads. Where a set of no name branded hm5 pads are 10-20$ or about 25-30$ for OEM ones. Pads can be found on Amazon there are various colors, angled ones and if you shell out the cash sheepskin and other more luxury materials for hearing protection seeing as the ear muffs only cost 30-50$ I would just stick with the flat ones and the cheapest. First step is to pull off the pads from the hearing protection just pull straight out they pop out quite easily. Take a knife and cut off the stock pads and gel bladder this does make a bit of a mess so do it over a sink. Remove everything right down to the plastic support / mounting piece. And wash the plastic mounting piece. Stretch the hm5 pads over the plastic and ensure only the very beginning of the hm5 pad material is wrapping around so there is adequate room to snap the plastic back into the hearing protection. This step took me about 25-30min it’s a bit fussy but worth the time. Enjoy your super comfortable hearing protection Photo for proof it works: Sorry if this is in the wrong forum please move it if needed I figured its audio / sound related. Thank you.
  19. Lowest cost entry level DAC + AMP combo FX-audio dac x6 cant go wrong for the price and plenty of output power for the 58x it just has enough for my 6XX
  20. Use the DDU uninstaller and also ensure you dont have some old NVIDIA Drivers etc on there either. Once all your drivers all wiped out go to amd website and install the latest drivers for your card if after this your card is still not working very well I would look into your power supply as others have said.
  21. Get the stack you wont regret it. @Max_Settings Has recommended me a few things and I have not been disappointed.
  22. Those are good suggestions I would 100% go for the 58X on massdrop for an open back. But for closed back i would also add the Status audio CB-1 as a great entry level closed back and for the price cannot be beat. under 100$ and youll be rockin out. Another set is the audio-technica m40x w/ HM5 angled pads NOTE: you cannot use these with the stock pads so factor that into the cost. and you HAVE to buy the angled pads none other. Now to open backs if you live in a quiet environment and listen at home or at the computer mostly open backs are unreal I own two pairs.. but if you plan to use these on the go or around people they will be able to hear what your hearing if they are within a few feet of you and you can hear them very clearly if they are talking etc.
  23. This is VERY unclear! When making a post like this please layout your information in a easier to read fashion and provide more information about your computer specs etc. Such as: Problem Computer specs / relevant information (headphone type mic type etc) What you have tried to remedy the problem or researched yourself Current Audio settings etc etc Going off what you have put in your original post I would say there is obviously something wrong with your audio settings in your desktop.. It seems like a device is switching and getting priority/default status and the hissing etc could be from poor on board audio etc especially if your using GPU audio etc.. I do not know your computer specs which makes it hard to give you a decent answer...
