  1. Looking good! Do you plan on resorting to some sorcery to get both the Level 20 GT and Core P90's I/O working?
  2. It does not seem easy at all. I'm baffled that you would spend that much time building props yourself for a modding project. That level of attention to detail is rare and precious. Keep up the good work!
  3. GPCGR just released an ISO version of the GMMK. Impulse-bought the TKL variant. What could go wrong?

  4. Because the GS6 had the best camera I could get for my money at the time of purchase.
  5. Maybe not an actual suggestion, but I'd personally like it to be held before May. I guess it would be less convenient for a lot of people, but I just happen to be in Vancouver until the end of April, so egoistically, I'd like it to take place before I leave. I'm European and I don't travel to the colonies very often.
  6. Or to feed the poor. Let's not forget that we've got entire countries whose lands have been diverted from subsistence farming to producing the cereals we use to feed our cattle. That's another reason why proper lab-grown meat could be a step in the right direction.
  7. VA panels are better known for their excellent contrast. The viewing angles aren't as great as what you usually get on an IPS panel, but from my experience, the difference isn't nearly as pronounced as with TN panels. As for the response time, while IPS and VA are inferior to TN (with VA being a tad better), you can get very responsive IPS or VA panels if you're willing to spend a lot. They actually exist, so MSI may well be selling a VA panel with a low response time. With that said, it could still be achieved with some dirty overdrive and leave you with ugly artifacts. Read some reviews if you can find them.
  8. It's either inquisitive learning or inquiry-based learning (with a hyphen). Making a mistake on your very subject in the first sentence of your essay will make it seem like you can't proofread. Also, your first three sentences start with very similar words, which makes them sound repetitive. You might want to rephrase them. This sounds naive to me. Of course you're going to find knowledge if you're digging into a pool of knowledge. Also, digging in a pool...? You may want to find another analogy. Also, don't forget the apostrophe in "it's". This looks dragged out. You're saying that inquiry-based learning increases one's knowledge and therefore one's satisfaction, happiness and power, but you use "mind" and "power" twice, as well as a rather useless subordinate clause. I reckon this capital letter is unnecessary. Also, "driven", not "drived". It's hard to give an overall opinion without any context. Are you an 8th grader, a 10th grader, an undergrad college student? Is English your native language? Which class is this for?
  9. Some of you guys seem to be completely out of your minds. If visual / written depiction of underage minors is censored, tracked and prosecuted just like actual exploitation of minors, which do you think the sickos will choose?
  10. Yes, ideally. 16 PCIe lanes would be a boon. But I guess the biggest problem at this point is that manufacturers focus on making throttlebooks by cramming 45w CPUs and dGPUs into small chassis, when they could easily put just the CPU and cool it adequately. I'm quite certain there's a market for that.
  11. A compact 15mm thin laptop with a vapour chamber-cooled 8th-gen H CPU, no dGPU so that the CPU can run at full tilt all the time, a 99Wh battery, thin bezels around a 15.6" 3:2 display, and an eGPU setup at home. That would be nice.
  12. I came here to say that. @glitchmaster0001 Return that 2018 MBP, get a refund, buy a used 2015 MBP for a third of the cost. You'll get plenty of ports, an SSD, a retina display, the latest version of OSX, a good keyboard, and so on. If you're just taking notes, it's still a very decent buy. And you'll avoid the flexgate. A friend of mine had the display on his 2016 MBP fail just two days ago. Save yourself the trouble.
  13. I know X chips often make less sense from a pure value standpoint, but depending on the price difference, I might get one to get higher boost clocks, since I won't be overclocking. As for the BIOS, I think I've already updated to F20+, so it should already be compatible, but I'll probably get the latest version before swapping. Thanks for your answers.
  14. Hi. I'm in Vancouver for a year as an exchange student, and hardware prices are lower than they are in France. I'd like to take advantage of that, that is to say buy a CPU here and upgrade from my 1500x to a 2600(X) or 2700(X) when I come back home. My computer (link in signature) has a Gigabyte GA-AB350M gaming 3 board, so its VRM are neither strong nor well-cooled. Provided I do not overclock, do you think I could run a 6 or 8 core CPU long-term without suffering a catastrophic failure? Based on what I've heard from Gamer's Nexus regarding VRM tolerance to heat, I tend to think it would be fine, but I'd like to get more opinions.
  15. The Kaby Lake G variant costs well over $2000, is hard to find in most parts of the world (often it's not even sold on HP's own website), and is significantly worse than Dell's 2-in-1 offering. This laptop looks absolutely gorgeous, I was very excited when it launched, and I would have liked it to be a compelling option, but it's not. Edit: I just looked at US pricing, and it's much cheaper than everywhere else. So maybe it's a decent choice for some US customers. But then again, the poor thing has terrible battery life and can barely game. Most people would be better off with the 8550u/mx150 variant, which has double the battery life.
  16. This topic is getting old, but Apple's special event will take place a week from now, and I'm quite excited. I hope this sub-$1000 laptop is a 13" MacBook. That would really push the industry forward, since lots of people would suddenly stop buying the UX331, 9370, SF514 and such. It would be nice to see more manufacturers trying to rival Apple's displays and build quality at a lower price point. All aboard the hype train:
  17. Thanks for your replies @Levent @NotKalo @TheKDub @ZeouLs @Froody129 @The_Tron @kelvinhall05 @PokiDaSpitz @syn2112 @userzero @LoGiCalDrm @MedievalMatt @Ramonje. I'll unplug it and store it somewhere safe.
  18. Hi. In just a few days, I'm going to leave my country, and I'm not taking my desktop with me on the plane. What should I do to ensure it will power on when I come back next year? Should I unplug it, store it somewhere cool and dry, and call it a day? Should I leave it plugged in and ask for someone to power it on maybe once a month to preserve the SSD and CMOS battery? Is there something else I should think about? Thanks.
  19. Well I have an XPS 15, and if it had a 17" display in a barely bigger chassis thanks to a taller aspect ratio, I'd be even happier. Different users, different uses.
  20. I'm not looking for anything, just sharing a thought. A 17" laptop using the 16:10 aspect ratio with thin bezels would barely be wider than an XPS 15 and, depending on the size of the bottom bezel, barely deeper as well. If a company was to make such a device with efficient hardware like the 8250U (and maybe the MX150), they would have plenty of space to use a decent thermal solution, throw in a 99Wh battery, and still make it thin and light enough for most people to carry easily. I feel like this would be an excellent option for on-the-go office work. So, how comes it doesn't exist? Would the display size freak people out? Would the chassis be prone to bending due to the thinness and huge size? Thanks.
  21. Tick - tock - tock - tock - tock - tock - tock - tock - tock ... - Intel
  22. I know this topic is getting old, but everything is fine now, so hopefully this will help someone: since 17.10 went EOL, I've tried a few popular distributions, including Fedora, along with a bunch of popular fixes, and I've had no luck: only my 17.10 install worked properly with Intel's integrated graphics. Then I found stockmind's respin tools for the XPS 9560. Thanks to these and the detailed tutorial, any idiot could build a tailored 18.04 iso for an XPS 15, and that's exactly what I did. The new install works flawlessly, with prime-select set up to switch between Intel and Nvidia graphics, and now proper gesture support as well, thanks to fusuma.
  23. Then get her the new Acer Swift 1. Well-built metal chassis, 14" IPS FHD display with thin bezels, excellent battery life, and performance similar to that of a previous-gen core m thanks to huge generational improvements to the low-power pentium CPUs. I've used its predecessor, whose processor was about 30% slower, and it never stuttered during web browsing or office use. It will be perfectly fine as long as she doesn't open lots of things at once, since it only has 4GB of RAM. The flash storage is only 64GB, and it's barely faster than a 7200rpm HDD, but there is an m.2 slot inside if you want to throw in a larger, faster SSD. It's pretty much like buying a second-hand base model UX305, except you get a warranty.
