  1. I doubt cpu bottle necks are obvious. Given the 1060 you listed I'm guessing you won't exceed 60fps? If so then you don't have to worry about cpu bottlenecking. CPU bottlenecking is irrelevant for mainstream setups [eg 1080p 60hz gaming on medium/high settings], the only time it's obvious is more related to say high frame rate gaming [144-165+hz] where then only CPU limitations will show [Ryzen Vs Intel as an example similar tier chips] also graphics cards are quite expensive, cpus otoh are cheap for what they are [the main powercore of the system]... i wouldn't gimp on the graphics card imo... wih 1060 messing up prices at the moment due to mining it's like as if buying a 1080/1080Ti [brand new] is much better :\ even though it sounds retarded/stupid to say.... at least thats what happened to me. initlaly wanted a 1070, ended up getting a 1080Ti due to price hikes bring it close to 1080Ti territory [200$+]
  2. You'd best be going used... as STUPID as it sounds, but so is thet current state of the graphics card at the moment (it's bollocks... 1080Ti strix here is 200$+ more than ever)
  3. I bought a 1080ti at 555 euros excl tax (shipped uk to aus) so yea do NOT buy the 1070 at 600€... i bought mine approx august 2017 when gpu prices were high still... save up a hit more is your best bet imo
  4. Nah get high speed ram for ryzen. Dont gimp on it. Also start ur own thread you are somewhat interferering with OP’s current discussion which can cause miscommunications later on
  5. I would evade blower card personally in think the gaming x gives u more potential due to added cooling allowing more headroom for further tweaking
  6. if i was to really hate apple its probably their mac lineup ... does not make sense for the price they're asking plus . at least iPhones and iPads are relatively priced well providing you don't need top notch [no pun intended] storage but do some quick workarounds . although the only product i use is iPhone because im sold on how apple is tackling the chip + graphics game for mobile . thats where they are strongest at . macs most likely not . plus im a diehard windows fan since 2000 so 17+ years haha . since apple develops their own silicon for their mobile devices at least they win in that regard . macs not so , the specs are cringey for what you pay for and ill agree to that . until they start designing their own gpu and cpu for their macs im no way getting near them . hahaha as for the customization bit i kinda let it slip through so it isn't the dealbreaker for me .
  7. rx580 is comparable to a 1060 6gb benchmark to benchmark ... you could, possibly go 1070 but noway near a 1080 or 1070ti with 450usd. unless you get relatively lucky to find one but with current shortages i don't think the msrp would apply in most cases. also cpu wise, a i7 8700 should suffice unless you really need ultra high frame rates, then only a 8700k would edge it on 1080p, i rarely overclocked my 7700k because gpu becomes a bottleneck even at 1440p high frame rate gaming.
  8. Volta Titan was made for prosumers , ie content creators . the 1080ti is still freaking powerful and untouched and should satisfy a plethora of those who want to game at 4k 60fps & 1440p high frame rates [144/165fps] so releasing a consumer volta is not in the books until later June or so . though im amazed af , 21 billion transistors vs 12 billion in the titan XP/1080Ti . that's almost a 50% increase
  9. apple , google , samsung , microsoft are relatively expensive but still if many people are buying them then they're doing something right and normal , you should be pointing the finger at the consumers as a result for tossing cash in their way and with that pent up demand , of course it looks like they're being hated more because of exorbitant prices , but the consumer is to blame as a result . if there was no demand surely things would stabilize one way or another or fall . i just learn to embrace all companies because in the end its something "I USE" .
  10. If anyone had the answer to that that is ... very unlikely you'll find it at msrp, everything's just jacked up at the moment [dram shortage & suply issue]
  11. if you can sell it soon invest in a nvidia card, a 1070ti or 1080 [whichever one is cheaper go 4 it they are almost eerily similar with a "few cores less"]... right now amd's lack of 3rd party card offerings is reaffirming my nervous decision on getting a 1080ti a no brainer despite the higher price tag i am super thrilled with its quality and feel no regret. its a 1440p and 4k contender in two sides without a doubt even on a single card no much compromise. *freesync/gsync only helps u the most personally when you are experiencing massive dips in fps consistently by a large amount [90 to 30 to 50 to 20 to 70 etc] [changing graphical environments day & night] which can cause lag/tear/stuttering. if most of your games stay put at a consistent frame rate you might not be even able to see the "tear" as what most would say.
  12. I wouldn't need to push the gpu on your laptop too much personally... the laptop is inferior for overclocking due to the tightly squeezed components which can cause significant overheating. you should be fine on stock settings i mean whats the resolution of the monitor. 1080p 60hz? better be... any higher would undermine the laptop's capability to even power that also for the record GTA V is relatively intense graphics wise, so i doubt a 1050 4GB will keep up with ultra high settings , heck i even turn it down a step notch on a 1080Ti because i do not see much significant difference in quality, but i get so much more frames out of it.
  13. doesnt matter. rather it be 2019/2020 to perfect it.
  14. In australia i know if the phone isnt over 1000aud in value u wont get extra duties. Not sure how other countries do this. but you can request them to declare the actual value on the gift pack so u avoid hassles later on... i know amazon usa fid this when i order a gtx 1080 ti from there to here in Aus and didnt get charged cos <1000aud value. What u see is what u pay for also with android overall its better to have more ram. iphone doesnt need so much altho a few speed tests has a bit of eyebrow raising when they pitted the iPhone x vs note 8 & note 8 ecking a win... but the iPhone 8 plus seemed to do fine(?) weird source: phonebuff for the above speed test comparison on youtube
  15. Hmm see how first. Im running stock speed with auto boost i7 7700k (4.2ghz to 4.5ghz) on a game like destiny 2 and i get approx 165 frames average with High settings (120-140fps avg with HIGHEST settings ie graphics overkill) without much issue with a 1080ti. See how high he can oc his 2600k and monitor the frames if there isnt much change as the settings drol then most likely bottleneck of cpu but then again if he maintains an average of 100fps min he will be utmostly fine. As the bare minimum i would say thats acceptable and amazing for some intensive games good luck hope he gets the 165hz with a modest overclock with the new rig if not >100hz is also fine in most cases
  16. That being said the pg279q is amazing. I love that monitor to death and it wont be changing anytime sooner... Considering hdr might hurt my eyes abit its a welcomed change. i will also consider it futureproofing to the extent that my setup will follow also for a long time. imo the 1080ti is the only card you should pair with this monitor... given he had change for two nice monitors im sure the 1080ti is better off for him in the wrong one i would be pissed if he handicapped himself with a 1070 or 1080 just to save a bit and lose some performance because the 1080ti is freaking amazing at 1440p, imo the SWEET SPOT now afaik... especially if he wants high framerate gaming.. theres no other option.
  17. Vega is crap imo i cant recommend it as an option. Expensive even for reference card, given most aib partners refusing or reluctant to release 3rd party ones a 1080ti better imo like it or not. Im running the exact same monitor as him and im averaging 130-160fps on most of my games on max settings as long >100fps im happy to be honest lol any lower and i start to cringe a tiny bit.
  18. Why do these manufacturers like solid front panel honestly kinda defeated the purpose for rgb fans in first place
  19. Yea that was the funny thing about intel's current Gen8 launch. despite releasing the full lineup of the 8th gen chips, [Most] of the locked chips don't seem to be a viable option as of now with Z370 boards up only [that are made for potential overclocking]... my productivity consists pretty much of photography and string of photo editing... just depends on demand of clients [no videography/3d rendering at all] on the adobe platforms... if that sorta helps shed some light. you'd best probably wait to 10nm i guess... i think for me im hoping my system can go as long as it can go since i rarely upgrade often [hate reselling items, if not i just drive them to EOL and let it be although some might digress with the way i do things].
  20. i may plan to delid the chip later on in a month or two, its about 40-45$ here [with two way shipping included] a guy is doing it in favor for the enthusiasts in aus at a bit of cost... considering the delid tool + conductonaut here is expensive just for a one use case for me to buy i'm tinkering about the former option later on... i intend to keep my system as long as it can hence the abv option. hopefully, even if newer games come out that has more demand I hope [hope] still can hold above 80fps at the very least on 1440p with the 1080ti minimum bare . as long i dont change the resolution [monitor] up a notch i should be fine hopefully
  21. pretty much, i don't play those games that have struggle keeping high fps => like pubg/civilization VI/ashes singularity/deus ex... but more stuff like Prey, dh2, tomb raider & the upcoming destiny 2 [which i heard has great optimization which allows it to perform exceptional even on lower tier cards too] but as long as I can maintain >100Fps as the min i'm pretty much happy since 100 vs 144hz becomes less apparent... compared to 60 vs 100hz*
  22. Yeah I'm just on the consensus of leaving it at stock speeds for now with auto boost, also it's summer here so my room is a bit warmer ambient temps wise. @Colty I'll give that a try later thanks for the protip and the detailed reddit guideline, i personally haven't delidded my cpu tho my friend is doing an express shipping + delid in aus w/ return delivery here for about 40-45$. considering how expensive express shipping is here normally [auspost] i may give it the shot later when i get some monies back wish he was in Perth rather than tassie then i could cut the extra shippings pretty much, 1440p gaming imo the sweet spot for high fps gaming on a single card that's why i'm just wondering personally that overclocking the cpu won't ield much benefit, sli maybe? but that would be busting my price range which is why i sorta popped up the question about overclocking a 7700k, even with stock speeds it's damn fast already for what it really is even tho some say coffe lake/ryzen is out.
  23. I did the same thing, transferred ssd mobo to mobo and got activation issues... turns out i just did a fresh install and wipe out the partition of my old windows and a fresh win10 and not only was faster, but i felt like so much space has been leveraged one way or another o_o. Even if u delete the partition in the initial Windows OS installer [via CD/DVD/usb], it just ends up being under the C:/Win.old section when you get ur new system up and running so your files are still there which you can delete and back up as needed.
  24. i would probably wait out for the non-OC chipset mobos come out befoer buying a 8700 non K or something along those lines... just because it wouldnt be wise to pair a locked chip to a mobo w/ oc potential. that being said, it depends on what you do more often... more editing => ryzen on a % basis. more gaming => intel on a % basis... high fps gaming? => intel is the no brainer due to higher clock spds. don't care about fps but want a steady 60 on 4k or something... then maybe ryzen. these are just my opinions.
  25. M.2 is still kinda pricey for most people. I just bought it because i wanted a SSD upgrade and i had a m.2 slot so i felt like omg go for it. USB-C 3.1 is still relatively new. I think 3.0 is still fine as of today, the only time I'd find 3.1 useful is for stuff like transfering huge chunks of GB files [eg 4k videos and the like]. I am missing out on usb-c but i still feel we are still okay with 3.0 speeds. your processor should be fine. unless you're hitting some kind of bottleneck on Game/Production? You should be fine. if no bottlenecking/cap occurs in your daily use. In fact by changing your processor, you'll need to consider new Ram [ddr4 vs ddr3] and a new mobo with the chipset [z370 vs... what was 2600k's chpset?] and that alone can set back maybe 1100aud+ or so. 200aud ram 600aud 8700k , 200-500aud mobo depending on your needs. so yea, you can have as low as 1k [asus prime as an example] or high as 1.3k [maximus X hero] just for those 3 components alone] with the
