That is always the way the shit floats to the top. Thing is she will probably stick around longer than anyone else.

The receptionist didn't have a chance to blame me for her data because I sat her down and explained all the possibilities of how the drive was perfectly reformatted including aliens sneaking in and wiping the drive. and then went into a grand list of why we have file servers and why she has access to them and even has her own folder on one of them.

Your auntie is going to lose all of her shit one of these days and you will be able to stand there and say in an incredulous tone "Do you not have a backup?!"

I have yet another little story...

I have just returned upstairs after the building (around 300 people) was evacuated with fire alarm blaring! The cause of this... well someone attempted to make toasted cheese in the toaster.

Toasters are a type of tech are they not? We allow this person access to computers, time to *upgrade* him to an etch-a-sketch!

Alternatively I have had someone this morning unable to find their desktop... Etch-a-Sketch's for everybody!

mmmm soapy, soggy toast... yummy! It was wireless by the way so that might be why it didn't click that it used electricity.

This depends on the keyboard in question, this keyboard did not like getting wet.

Generally as long as it is very dry before getting plugged back in again you should be fine however I wouldn't recommend just plonking it in the dishwasher. You can however take the thing apart and wash the bits individually which is what I do and this hasn't broken a keyboard yet.

Mechanical keyboards are another story as you can get a patina of rust in the springs sometimes after washing and there is often a bit of lubricant that is washed out so performance might drop. Again this varies.

Anyhow I have another story... this one is about another mac user with a nice shiny iMac.

    I get yet another phonecall

User: I cant log into my computer!
Me: Ok... let me come to you and check the network connection.

I proceed to the users desk, we sometimes have login issues as the macs sometimes can't contact the DC because the network cable might be loose or could have been used on a laptop or something. So...

User: See its not logging in! -- proceeds to try logging in just to prove he wasn't stupid.

I kick him off the computer and log into the admin local account, there are no issues, it can ping the DC just fine and everything is working.

Me: have you changed anything on your computer? anything at all?
User: I did wash my Keyboard.
    Me: Wash? Why? Nevermind!

I knew what the problem was... Opened up notes and started pressing buttons, some of the keys were dead. Went to the storeroom and grabbed a new keyboard, hooked it up to the mac and *POOF* no issues.

Me: How Exactly did you wash your keyboard?
User: well I took it to the kitchen sink and scrubbed it. Look how clean it is now! -- Very proud look on his face.
Me Don't ever try to clean anything relating to one of the computers again!

This whole "YEAH I have all the rams!" thing has been going on since time began even before computers as competition between goat herders, but I digress.

Minecraft with its absurd ram requirements have just upped the ante in recent years in conjunction to ram=performance.
I remember when I still ran a minecraft server (not a pop up but an actual server) there would always be people asking how much ram the box had with no regard to processor or bandwidth etc and were blown away when I would tell them a much lower number than they were expecting.

    *Phone rings* I answer.
User: My wireless keyboard doesn't work! help!
Me: Maybe the keyboard has borked itself, lets turn it off and on again. There is a power button on the right hand of the keyboard hold this for a while to turn it off and then press it again to turn it on.
User: I cant see a button on the right.
    Me: try the left?
    User: Nope... No buttons.

I begin to catch onto the problem here...

Me: is there a wire coming out of the back of the keyboard?
    User: err... yes.
Me: can you follow it and plug it into the port on the back of the iMac?
    User:Ok... Thanks it works now!

    What is Star Citizen?

Star Citizen is an upcoming space trading and combat simulator video game. Star Citizen will consist of two main components: first person space combat and trading in a massively multiplayer persistent universe and customizable private servers (known as Star Citizen), and a branching single-player and drop-in co-operative multiplayer campaign (known as Squadron 42).

    What is a UOLTT Conglomerate?

A conglomerate first of all is a combination of two or more corporations engaged in entirely different businesses that fall under one corporate group, usually involving a parent company and many subsidiaries. Often, a conglomerate is a multi-industry company. -- Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Conglomerate_(company))

As the UOLTT take on this there will be a series of groups, Military, Exploration, Salvage, Engineering, Trading, Mercenary and MIning each with their own structures and council representative. The council will have guide their groups day to day running while lobbying the High Council on behalf of their respective group for matters of greater import.
Ixi's initial post on the gargantuan thread sums this up far better than I can (http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/105285-ltt-conglomerate-now-with-added-legitimacy-over-1500-members-edition-now-with-added-gdocs-its-over-100-pages/#entry1407849)

The council and groups are yet to be founded, the High council consists of Ixi_Your_Face (ixi), Blade of grass and Slick (Tarwah).

What do I get buying Star Citizen now?

This is a hard question as the game is still in development. Currently you will get:

The Ship in the package you buy. Access to the Beta version of Star Citizen. The Hangar matching the class of your ship.
There is the possibility of buying into some limited offer ships now that will not become available again until the final Persistent Universe is released.

The game will have bugs due to its being in development you will have to understand this first and foremost. There is no way to guarantee you will enjoy the game or what your interest will be by release, that is up to you.

There are many videos detailing the current state of the game:
    Roberts Space Industries - https://www.youtube.com/user/RobertsSpaceInd

What do I need to play the Dogfighting Module?

You will need a ship (see below) with Full Alpha access or an Alpha Module Dogfighting pass US$5 (https://robertsspaceindustries.com/pledge/module-passes).

What is the cheapest ship to get started?

The Arena Commander Starter (https://robertsspaceindustries.com/pledge/Packages/Arena-Commander-Starter) is the easiest and fastest method of gaining access to the current game.
The Aurora LN for US$45 is a solid contender for a more militaristic variant of the Aurora (https://robertsspaceindustries.com/store/318-aurora-ln) however an Arena commander pass will be required bumping the price up by $5 to $50 total.

These packages come with: Starting Money: 1,000 UEC, 3 Month Insurance, Digital Star Citizen Manual, Squadron 42 Digital Download, Star Citizen Digital Download, Beta Access and the SelfLand Hanger

You can of course buy just the ship with no added benefits however you would then have to wait for the full release to play or buy the ship and pass but miss out on any benefits.

What is the deal with these Hangars?

The Hangars have recently been updated from the Deluxe, Business, Budget and Asteroid hangars to the more company focused names of Revel &York, Aeroview, Self-Land and Industrial. These can be purchased in the store and selection of the hangers are done through the RSI website (https://robertsspaceindustries.com/account/pledges).

Lovely pictures here in the release article (https://robertsspaceindustries.com/comm-link/transmission/14143-Arena-Commander-V09-Released).

    What is Racing?

Zoom Zoom... The roar of the crowd! This is the Murray cup and the addition that has headlined Arena commander release 0.9. There are two new ships the Origin M50 and Origin 350R, both pure bread racing thoroughbred beasts.
go look at the pretty pictures here (https://robertsspaceindustries.com/comm-link/transmission/14139-Start-Your-Engines).

Leader boards have also been added for this as well as the dog fighting but who cares we are all racers now... Which reminds me @rucdoc has created a race league (http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/202587-aurora-chalice-racing-league/)

    Joining the UOLTT?

After purchasing your ship and becoming a captain on your vessel you will want to join an Organisation. We the UOLTT Conglomerate are just such an Organisation.

To become a member visit (https://robertsspaceindustries.com/orgs/UOLTT) where you can read our History, Manifesto and Charter and finally click the “Join us now!” link.

Finally Hop into the RSI chat (https://robertsspaceindustries.com/orgs/UOLTT/chat) and say Hi!
    Welcome!

*It may take a little bit of time for one of our esteemed leaders to accept your application, they are busy folk.

Affiliation to the UOLTT (Multi organisation shenanigans!)

With the multi Orgs coming upon us the best source of information is Ixi's post (http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/151118-the-situation-with-multiple-orgs-and-other-things/#entry2018845).

    The short of it is:
Full members of the UOLTT receive full benefits, access to ranks, resource and so on... Affiliate members will not receive full benefits, hold a rank of authority or take priority above Members, with the exception of treaties being in place to accommodate these circumstances.

The UOLTT must be your main org to be considered a member. Members of the UOLTT won't be stopped from affiliating with other Orgs (why you would want to is the question).

Affiliates and Members alike will have to at all times abide by the rules of the UOLTT when on UOLTT business.

    How does insurance work?
Insurance (or Basic Hull Insurance) for your ship works just like insurance you would get for your car. You pay an amount of credits periodically and as a result your ship will be insured. This will be only for the hull, upgrades that you have made to it will not be reimbursed. If your ship gets blown up, you get a new one, in the state you bought it in. That's the basic idea behind it.
There will be, however, wear and tear that will influence the ship. Over time it will get dirty and rusty.

Now, there is also Life Time Insurance (LTI). LTI has the same principle as Basic Hull Insurance, but it will never run out. Once you have a ship with LTI, the hull will be insured for life. LTI was given with every ship bought before 26 November 2013, after that date it couldn't be obtained through the RSI Pledge store. There is, however, a grey market of LTI ship dealers.

About the amount of credits needed to renew your BHI. Chris Roberts has said that they don't have a set amount for it, but it certainly won't be so much that you won't be able to go along with your daily business. Every ship package you buy in the Pledge store comes with a certain amount of months of BHI.

Why are they still raising money? Isn't $50m+ enough? And they are going to charge for certain items when its complete, sounds like they are all about the money!

    Short version:
Chris Roberts intends to put all the money back into development, that means the more they can raise the more they can increase the level of detail. Once the game comes out they money they raise will go towards expansions, server costs and in game media (TV shows, races and news will be displayed on TVs in bars that you enter).

Long version from the mouth of Chris Roberts himself

Who is this Chris Roberts guy?

Go here 'nuff said… (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chris_Roberts_(game_developer)). And this:

Is why we want him working on this game…

    Probable System Requirements

Your guess is as good as mine! As it is still in development and unoptimised no one knows.

The best guess and what RSI has for the Hangar Module is:
Windows Vista, Windows 7 or Windows 8 DirectX 11 graphics card with 1GB Video RAM Quad core CPU 8GB Memory
a topic posted by CynicalCyanide on the RSI Forums (https://forums.robertsspaceindustries.com/discussion/22025/guide-to-can-my-pc-laptop-run-star-citizen) does go into further detail on this matter.

    General bugs and help...

Chat isn't working? To fix this try resetting your XMPP token in your RSI Settings (https://robertsspaceindustries.com/account/settings). If this does not work you can attempt to configure an XMPP client details can be found at (https://robertsspaceindustries.com/faq/xmpp-setup) However they are somewhat lacking so some play is required.

The latest Game manual (https://robertsspaceindustries.com/media/mgysb65ns00jcr/source/AC-Manual-09-V6.pdf). Note it might not be the latest
