Hi all, I have a currently running system and would like to change a few things. Im just not that sure what to do where in the best case. My current setup consits of the following: Dell Optiplex Micro with a i5-10500T and 40GB RAM (32+8) 120GB SATA SSD on which is Proxmox installed 1TB M.2 SSD as storage for the Proxmox VMs a Ubuntu Server LXC which hosts a SMB share as "NAS" running 24/7 for selfhosted services, HomeAssistant etc. For more storage, backups of the VMs/LXCs, movies etc. there also is a off the shelf NAS QNAP TS251A 2x 10TB Seagate Ironwolf 3.5" only running on WoL and turned on if needed for backups and/or streaming of the NAS storage Now I would like to condense my setup and get rid of the QNAP as device itself completely. On Proxmox I also run a Jellyfin server with the media hosted on the QNAP. It...works more or less that way, though I sometimes have to mount the NAS again at the Jellyfin LXC if the NAS was in sleep. Im also not a big fan of the two different data stores on different devices. My idea of the setup would be the following: the OptiPlex running Proxmox as it is right now the Seagate HDDs attached to the Dell host directly a to be decided storage/NAS system running inside of Proxmox which handles storage on the HDDs the 1TB M.2 SSD as root drive for the VMs storage of the rest of the data, movies, documents for paperless, etc. on the HDDs also a to be decided file system for the HDDs Whats your take on this? Any suggestions on the software side? Also what Im not that sure of right now, is the hardware setup for the 3.5" HDDs. USB-to-SATA storage? Using the M.2 slot of the no longer existing WiFi card with some AliExpress M.2 to SATA adapters? Also, I have two WD Reds laying around here, which I maybe would integrate in the setup if possible. Well, at least that was a thought with an USB enclosure to go for 4-Bay instead of 2-Bay. Though Im currently using about 3TB on the Seagate drives, so not really a storage space issue.

How to block adult sites as well as specific social media?
White_Helix replied to Elarion's topic in Networking
Well, you could adjust the firewall to just block DNS requests that go anywhere else where you want to. At least until you get do DNS over TLS. But then the client also needs to query those domains, so I guess that could also work. -
What would be really interesting on this is a Linux Distro (take your pick) with a lightweight WM, XFCE, Openbox or something. I could really see that going like a whole new dimension of performance.

Depending on the device you`re using I would also think of using a dongle or not. For my laptop, I would never get a mouse that requires a dongle (even though I really love my G305).

The switch prices for the standard switch (not the lite) are so insane here in germany, I would wait in that case or try to get a used one for a decent price. Luckily, I bought mine just before the corona madness began, can recommend. Until now, I put more hours on it than on my XBONE and probably equal with my PS4.

Thats the logical side of it, physically we have Cat.6 sockets in every room, Cat.7 cable and everything nice and tidy in a little rack. I have to use my ISPs ONT, not pictured in there (imagine as the cloud). For the AP-AC-LR we have another Cat.7 running in the floor below, as well as a LWL for future use. Also another LWL in the basement, where my future office/studio will be located. The IP camera is just the first one, recording to the QNAP Surveillance Station running on the NAS with more to follow.

How fast is the LTT member's internet connection?
White_Helix replied to zephiK's topic in Networking
FTTH, we pay for 100/50. We could get more, but atm its enough of either speed and cost. -
Exact same problem here with my EU S8 (Exynos), did a hard reset, flashed it with Odin, nothing helps. I get it to Samsung Support next week, maybe that will help.

That looks really interesting, a shame that those seem to be not sold separately. I guess there are no custom keycaps in that size? That would be really awesome. Maybe I get myself a Tesoro Gram XS if they release it as TKL too. Getting a full-size for work and a TKL for the home office would be really awesome, but my wife would totally kill me. Her face, when she saw me looking at the Logitech Craft, said everything

Are there any tips on low profile keycaps for regular MX Switches? Does something like that even exist? I'm completely happy with my Masterkeys S, but low profile caps would be really nice.

10/10 for the face. I would like the whole car better, maybe even a b&w version? Focus looks a bit off, overall I would say 6/10. Fuji X-E2 with 50mm f2 Rikenon from 1988. -
So something more older, Canon EOS 5000 with the Kit lens and Agfaphoto APX 100 sw film. 500px 500px

The minolta arrived two days ago, beautiful condition, even better than the Ricoh. https://500px.com/photo/190698927/minolta-x-700-by-daniel-gotteswinter?ctx_page=1&from=user&user_id=20720193

Steam inhome streaming on a NAS
White_Helix replied to White_Helix's topic in Home Theater Equipment
Like I said, if I have a NAS that's connected to the TV anyways, theres no reason to get an additional Raspberry. I got the NAS today, I hope I have time to test it this weekend. -
Yeah I absolutely understand you, the difference in quality is obvious. I want to get to the point there I self-develop my pictures and get them right of the negative, but I think that will take a while. I want to start with BW starting next year, and maybe try color too someday. My only downside is, if I buy BW film at the local stores I only can get Agfa 100, which costs like four times the cheapest color film that they have. So im a bit scared to f... up developing.

Thats really very sharp, looks good. The price for that Plustek is not too high either, I maybe consider getting something like that. This one is out of my Canon, first roll of B&W film ever.

Im satisfied at them moment with it, was a huge upgrade for me from an old HP flatbed that was only designed for documents. Works surprisingly well with prints. I'll see how the quality will be scanning negatives directly. Sadly, I don't have that much time I want for photography (analog and digital).

Any analog photographers out here? If I saw right, theres no thread for all the good analog stuff, so time to create a post everything analog related thread. My gear consits at the moment of a Canon EOS 5000 with the 38-76mm Kit, a Porst Reflex TL and a Voigtländer Vitoret D. I had a Minolta X-700 too, but thats now in the hands of my ex girlfriend. I need to get one again, perfect camera and beatiful pictures. I cant imagine of something better at the moment. I digitalise my pictures with a Canon 9000F Mark II scanner, right now only prints from the photo shop, direct film is still to be tried.

Yeah im actually a really big fan of the WRX and the STI and wanted to get one of them first. But for that interior quality, im not paying that price. No go, especially when you are used to german cars and the high quality. I dont like that touch button things on the new MK7 but hey, I waited long enough for the Active Info Display, that got me convinced. I loved that in a Model S and was hoping to get it in a Golf too. We have a 2015 Passat as company car with the Info Display and I absolutely love it.

I think he would have asked me how much that would cost and what internet speed he needs to get those GB's down
