  1. if you wanna upgrade that's your business. all i'll say is that e-waste is a huge issue, as is climate change. in my opinion if your current machine works totally fine, why not keep it. if you replace it when it breaks or becomes too slow for you, you'll get both a better new system cuz you'll be a few years further on, and it's better environmentally to use older hardware for a bit longer.
  2. did you do a clean install of the gpu drivers? if you got 240fps with your 1060 in the same system then the new card is the issue, not the rest of your system. oh also, please whatever you do don't listen to @Somerandomtechyboi's ridiculous "solution". if the same system with the 1060 performed as you wanted there's no need for any of that.
  3. i miss old Overwatch. i watch videos from Jacksepticeye sometimes where he played it and damn i miss it. no annoying moira, brig or any of those stupid OP heros
  4. idk what that smiley is for, it being broken for everyone isn't better. lmfao. if it was just my stupid internet or my macbook or whatever that's fair, i could fix that myself.
  5. ^^^^ basically whenever i try to use the download feature this happens. especially annoying since a lot of the reason for using FP for me is the downloads. i have very bad internet and sometimes i can't stream a 1080p video smoothly, so i can just download it and then watch it. much more convenient. except when it doesn't work. ugh.
  6. is that a fucking laserdisc player bottom right? holy crap that's awesome!

My 2018 Mac mini is working over time. My boss…

i've used this in the past to read HFS+ on Windows, it's clunky (you can only extract to another drive and then open the file, you can't open it from the hfs drive directly) but it does work https://www.catacombae.org/hfsexplorer/
  8. my TV stand is from the 1980's, made from solid wood cuz it's designed for a CRT and it was made back in the day when you had 2 VCR's, surround processor, receiver, cd player, record player all in the same system so it's huge and fits a ton of stuff. it fits a 48" modern ish TV with speakers either side lmao, with plenty of room for cables because again, back when it was made everything used cables.
  9. that could be why, 8 still came with IE by default, not edge like Windows 10 did.
  10. old versions of windows when you set the default browser it put that file in the internet explorer files, so that old programs that were designed to open with IE would open with chrome, iirc that was the reason. hence your shortcut was there.
  11. download chrome setup from their site and run it, if it already detects an install there select the repair option in the installer, that should do it.
  12. old windows versions did that, it's possible this person upgraded from Windows 7 to 10, hence the old shortcut was still there.
  13. the problem is that for some reason your chrome shortcut was set in internet explorer's files. Windows Update recently pushed an update that deletes internet explorer, hence your shortcut is gone. manually pinning Chrome to the taskbar should fix it.

So in the heel of the latest mac address video,…

how so? it's got double the ram, and 8gb of video memory which on the mini is shared with main ram. it's also got a lot more storage.
  15. alert slider a oneplus innovation? the original iPhone had it. lmfao
  16. tldr my question is does steam in home streaming do 120hz? long question: i recently got my friends old laptop cuz he upgraded, due to the laptop having some issues. the battery shorted out and fried the charging circuit, so it doesn't boot with a battery installed, and the laptop has cooling issues (thanks a lot HP), but, it has a 120hz screen. all pc monitors i have are 60hz. due to the battery and cooling issues i have to run the 7700HQ in the laptop without turbo boost and to prevent it shutting down due to power reasons i have to limit the 1060 in it to 90% power. as a result the only games the laptop can run at 120fps are esports games like Overwatch. but i was thinking, i could run my gaming pc headless and use steam in home streaming to the laptop to take advantage of the 120hz screen without overloading the laptop. would this work?
  17. the pci-e lock is not actually needed for the card to function so you won't need to repair that...
  18. decided to try startallback and holy crap

this is Windows 11 but with most of Windows 7's taskbar features which were objectively better.

    1. manikyath

      manikyath

i have been playing with something that shoehorns win10 taskbar and start menu back into win11, but this just looks better.

  19. yep. i'm upgrading to a GTX 1070 in a few days though. should be a nice upgrade.
  20. if you've got ethernet in both rooms you could do USB over ethernet maybe?
  21. oh oof. my R9 290X died yesterday, similar card to yours.
  22. i disagree with most of your rant. most of my computers are pretty janky (as i don't have a lot of money), mostly built from used hardware, and i don't have any of the issues you mentioned. Windows 11's requirement for a microsoft account is very easy to bypass if you know how, and even if you don't it takes 2 minutes to google that. as for the black screen after installing the nvidia drivers, i have a laptop with a GTX 1060 (again, janky, old laptop from a friend that is quite temperamental) and i've never had it just black screen purely because of drivers. in general it is true that pc gaming is more complicated than console gaming, but i'd argue that that is pc gaming's strength too in a way, because it's a lot more versitile. you can trade quality for fps, you can mod games, you can overclock your hardware, etc. none of those things are possible on a console. you're stuck with the shitty 30fps experience and no mods on a console.
  23. no worries. sad to see a gpu die though. what card is it?
