I am on a an Asus X570 Gaming E motherboard running a 5950x and since updating to latest firmware from June 2022 was able to update to Windows 11 with fTPM turned on with zero issues. I had severe stutter randomly before this update when ever I updated or turned TPM 2.0 on. I have had zero issues after the firmware UEFI update from Asus.

ne0rmatrix got a reaction from Kilrah in Thread for Linus Tech Tips Video Suggestions
Started watching todays video about what looked like a laptop. Stopped watching after about a min or so. Two embedded ads and then a third. Sorry Just not going to watch that sort of thing with that many ads spaced about 10 seconds apart. Good luck with that.  I will always just walk away from that sort of content! I will look for a review or write up on any product that is presented that way somewhere else. I am not interested in watching that video at all and I am leery of what sort of shenanigans your company will get up to next!

They probably do have to. Which is why you can pay in CAD, but there will be conversion at some point. Whether its done by your bank (cheap option) or PayPal and other handlers (rather expensive option), is your choice. I'm paying in USD and let my band do conversion from EUR to USD (which is then converted to CAD by LMG's bank)

Using currency vs another is just about conversion and conversion rates used by banks and handlers. Only ones getting money are those through which money goes. So if you are paying FP fee, you will be paying to your bank, to PayPal and to LMG's bank along with LMG. And for that payment most of the money will still go to LMG with PayPal having 2nd biggest share. US government will get only tax money paid by PayPal, a US based company. Canada will receive most of the tax money. From LMG, LMG's bank and your bank.

    from a strict economic sense:

most customers are americans so it makes sense.

for you it's irrelevant if you think about it, you pay in CAD, not USD. The bank converts it.  May have charges (have no idea i'm neither american or canadian), it's the only drawback i see and it's on you of course, but hey it's business that's usual

in general it gets a stronger currency into canada, which in fact it's good for canada.

But i get your point, it's weird for a canadian to pay a canadian company in canada in other currency than CAD.

My concern was that i was paying to convert Canadian funds to a foreign currency for a Canadian company. I thought that was odd. As to hurting or damaging the company it never was a factor. I have no resources and/or plans to do anything beyond moan about it on the forum here and see what reply i get from Linus Media/Floatplane club employees. As of now i am done moaning and complaining. I fully admit i have no clue as to why or how things are run in your business or any other. I am completely ignorant of the factors and decisions made in matters like this.

Thank your for reply. I will drop this topic now. I was mad about it. Not enough to do anything about it mind you. Just wanted to rant about something that puzzled me. I really wish and hope in the future that you can offer floatplane club in Canadian dollars. I understand it may be an issue in logistics and you are not set up and/or too small a company to offer payment in local currency. I will re-sub to floatplane when it becomes available in local currency. I really do appreciate the responses. Have a good week.

ne0rmatrix got a reaction from aisle9 in Just bought Insignia 4K Roku TV (20160
Just bought the new 2016 Insignia 4K Roku TV from Bestbuy yesterday here in Canada.  Model #
    NS-43DR710CA17
So far its great for playing World of Warcraft at high resolution. Had real panic when i turned it on and hooked it up and started World of Warcraft like a nube and saw screen tearing and started googling what the heck? Well it worked out google is not your friend when no one has posted or it is so obscure google has not found it. Or you used wrong search terms. First issue was i used wrong HDMI cable. Switched the 2 dollar dollar store brand for the one that came with my Xbox One and it still did not fix issue. So i went digging through setup in the TV menu and found out it defaulted to HDMI version 1.4 and you had to manually switch to auto or 2.x. Well you would think it should default to auto but no it is defaulted to lowest common denominator! WTF? Why would Insignia have a default setting for 30HZ on for 4K?

Anyways got that issue squared away and yes the youtube video's are breathtaking. Now i did not buy this TV for watching tv or watching movies. That would be a bad decision in my books. I bought it to play World of Warcraft in 4K. Yes i know about input lag etc. I don't really care. I can anticipate what will happen in a raid and do not PVP so the increase in resolution is all i care about and it looks real pretty.

Now for the bad news for those of you thinking about buying one of these new 4K Roku tv's. If you want to watch cable tv or any 1080p content i would stay away from these specific models. The picture at 1080p looks absolutely horrid when watching 1080p cable over HDMI. It is just incredibly sad to watch. If you are 15 or 20 feet away it is not so noticeable but at close up you can see all sorts of nasty stuff with colour and saturation and stuff like that. It might be a result of my configuration or the cheap 4K TV. But i think you should spend a few more dollars and get an LG or Samsung if you are looking for quality 1080p on a 4K TV. This is just my initial impressions and may change if i can figure out what is wrong. It may be fixed with a software update but again i do not know what the issue is. It just plays 1080p absolutely horridly! I do admit it looks real pretty sitting here typing on screen. Text and video at 4K is just fantastic.

I briefly loaded youtube and netflix and twit.tv on Roku part of TV and it worked great. Menu speed was real fast and switching inputs is easy. Volume controls for tv are on side of remote and the tv is very responsive and snappy when switching tasks. Screen bezel is much thinner than my old LG 3D Smart TV. My old tv was 40" and the Insignia i bought is 43" I did not have the room for a bigger tv nor could i afford a few hundred extra dollars for the next model up. I am happy with it so far. It does exactly what i want and at a price that is within my budget. I do not care about cable or Bluray support. I bought it to game with and latency is an issue I am willing to put up with as i do not play FPS games. Yes it does hurt my response time in raids. I have learned to adapt and it is not really noticeable unless my excuse to Raid Leader is I have input lag when dying in Mythic Reaver! He laughed and said i know where to stand and stay behind the boss LOL.

Anyways hope someone finds my musing useful.

Yah sent them a msg and there response was to do paid support option and hope for the best. Basically pay them and tell them it should be free and hope they do not bill me. Forget That. Just going to put it in old system that i know it works in. Old system is now at Step mothers house so she got a 400 dollar CAD free video card since it does not work anywhere but on that system lol. And she plays facebook games so its way way overkill!

Check Canada's Consumer Protection Act! Here in the Philippines, according to the Consumer Act of the Philippines, express warranty starts at the date when the sale is perfected.

Well, you don't want any of linus' retro unboxing videos to have their warranty still on.
It is not a dick move by them, more like business as usual. Just have to make sure not to fall for it again. And im pretty sure you bought the card on sale as well, since i don't think they will charge full price for such a long out of manufacturing period card.

Did you OC-ed that GPU? Install their OC software and check the fans curve. In my built I had a problem with my GPu crahing when the fans were spinning too slow. I wasn't turning of my screen but I was receiving drivers crashes. I changed the fans speed to be at 20% at the lowest and now it's working fine.

I had to decide if i wanted to spend 419 dollars CAD on a cheap GTX 970 and be totally broke or get a Gigabyte Windforce 290 for $299.99 at NCIX and i ended up broke A$$ by buying the Windforce and a new headset. I broke my Logitech G930 and superglue was no longer an option. Had done the glue thing and it only lasted 4 hours last time. So anyways love the 290. Lets me play my games at decent quality at 1080p. Decent frame rate. Switched from 7850 1 GB which just was not cutting it with any real modern games because of the lack of memory. So highly recommend the 290 for about 300 dollars. Its a good price for a decent performance.

    ne0rmatrix reacted to GamerDude in FX-6300 VS FX-8320 for a budget-but-future-proof build
No, although the die size is the same between them, the FX8320 is a Piledriver and the FX8120 is a Bulldozer. I had an FX8120 before (clocked at 3.6ghz) and when I moved on to the excellent FX8350, there were some notable differences.....games netted higher framerates, ripping DVD's/BR's was easily substantially faster with the FX8350 (at stock speed of 4ghz). Yes, my old FX8120 was clocked at 3.6ghz, but the vid decoding/encoding was easily faster even when one takes into account the raw speed difference between the two CPU's.

Games ran better than with the FX8120, and benchmarks improved quite a bit with the FX8350. When I had the FX8120 + Asus Crosshair V Formula, I was rather disappointed with its lackluster performance, and I'd felt that I'd made a mistake going AMD for my 2nd rig. But, the moment I'd replaced the FX8120 with the FX8350, I noticed a pretty big difference. I use this rig for a lot of BR ripping using Pavtube to rip movies into 1080P 20mbps files, this beastly CPU does the rips in very good time, even when compared to my main rig's LGA2011 i7 3960X.

As for whether to go with the FX6300 or the FX8320, IF you really cannot spare the extra cash for the FX8320, then the FX6300 would be a good compromise. You had mentioned something about being 'future proof', and though I dislike this term being bandied about, the FX8320 would be the better choice obviously, and I'd suggest that if you can spare the cash for it, do it!

I'm not turning this thread into a poll because I intend to carefully read the replies of every single person who posts in the next couple of days.

I won't make a decision like this without consulting the community that made us one of the top technology channels on YouTube.

I am considering completely abandoning unboxings in 2014 to focus on reviews, guides, Tech Quickie, and our upcoming daily news show.

What this means first of all is LESS CONTENT. Unboxings take a fraction as long as all that other stuff, so we won't be able to cover nearly the breadth of products that we used to do...

What it also means is MORE QUALITY and MORE FOCUS. We'll be able to really spend time getting familiar with things before we show it to you and really zone in on the stuff that we feel is most relevant, exciting and interesting.

Please let me know your thoughts.
