  1. Even without sleep deprivation, too much caffeine is poisonous.
  2. As far as I am aware that card only had the one DVI port. Although they could have just have easily made it single slot by not soldering the DVI port on and included a DP to DVI adapter in the box.
  3. That is illogical. It would only be OK to dehydrate them and drink the evaporated water. Eating the flesh is still cannibalism.
  4. My processors have a large workload to deal with, and I have encode and render projects queued up back-to-back. Outside of unscheduled faults, the only time I turn them off is every 6 months I test the UPSs and/or replace the batteries, and once a year I set aside 30 minutes to replace thermal paste if temperatures are out of spec. Routine dust removal is done while the system is running and faulty fans are hot-swapped. About once a month there is sufficient downtime for me to use one of my computers to play games on.
  5. Storage spaces has extremely poor performance. At this scale the PB vs PiB difference is quite large. There certainly is a component to binary involved as to what will be displayed within the OS. It really is overdue for operating systems to stop reporting storage and file sizes with incorrect units.
  6. My X99 Strix VRM exploded a few weeks in to using it, those boards seem doomed to fail. I hope Luke doesn't have any more issues with it. Is that Linus brand "distilled" water used to clean the rocks? I kind of like it, personal preference though.
  7. The 6900K is ~$1049 USD. I think $700 is still significantly cheaper than $1049.
  8. If you run anything that is critical that would cause financial loss greater than the value of the UPS if the process was stopped suddenly, or have a fileserver/NAS which needs to be safely shutdown to prevent data loss or corruption then a UPS is worth it. Otherwise it can be mildly beneficial but not great value, and more of a hassle. I personally have a UPS each on my router, file server, and desktop computers. Brownouts are frequent (fortnightly), and blackouts also occur regularly (every 2-3 months). The battery maintenance costs add up quite a bit.
  9. Totally agreed, I did not intend for my suggestion to be a replacement to resolving the issue, just a temporary workaround until a solution can be implemented.
  10. Quite a few forums have issues with preview text displaying for locked content. You could give it a randomly generated placeholder title, and some lorem ipsum to pad out the first paragraph to hide work in progress.
  11. I have run several systems for years under constant load at (and above) 80°C. The 4-pin CPU fan header should be between the CPU VRM heatsink and the IO, just below the 8-pin power connector.
  12. If the price and performance are as rumoured, the only thing that will be holding AMD back will be their ability to meet the market demand.

    Quick question

Yes, you can choose which one during install.
  14. If you must use Corsair fans, then consider the ML series w/ white LED. It is always a good idea to keep some spare handy in case maintenance is required though.
  15. The motherboard may need a bios update for that CPU.
  16. If the shortcut is labelled in the mouse over tool-tip of an icon, or next to the item in the menu I use the shortcut. If I use the shortcut 2-3 times, then I remember it. If the program hides the shortcuts and only displays them in documentation deep within the program notes, then I don't find them very user friendly and tend to move on to more user friendly alternatives if available. Most people won't be able to list or count all the shortcuts that they use, partly because it would take too long to type, but mostly because their use is so natural that it isn't something that is consciously done.
  17. If it was the 'leaked' benchmarks that I think you are referring to, those were intentionally misleading charts, it was a 4.7GHz Haswell-E beating a 4.2GHz Broadwell-E.
  18. I use the Noctua Industrial PWM fans. They are quieter and gave better performance than the Corsair SP fans. Otherwise, the NF-A14 is a good all-round fan with excellent static pressure.
  19. If you have the fans pushing air into each other (eg front and rear both pushing air into the case) they may be creating a lot of turbulence.
