  1. This implementation is obviously shit, I would assume many other companies too, however having cloud integration itself isn't a bad idea as it allows consumers to be able to access their home stored data from anywhere on the web without having to setup VPN's, servers, adjust router/modem settings requiring a dynamic IP service or getting static IP etc. Also I am sure there are also other benefits, I just couldn't be arsed looking them up.
  2. People have really short memories, every generation of every CPU has ended up with some sort of support issue, it's been happening since forever (late 80's at least). And it's not like this forum hasn't seen hundreds of threads arguing over how every generation series ends up in some split of features that makes product line up a bit sketchy one way or another.
  3. Governments just seem to be getting weaker and weaker as time goes on, I mean they don't have to be dictatorships in order to pull these companies into line, but at the moment they are literally doing nothing. I guess they feel it is more dangerous if a toilet sign offends a persons chosen identity than it is for a data company owned by a foreign government to spy on our children.
  4. Talks about politics, then asks not turn this into politics. My answer has not changed.
  5. I've been there, and for a place that doesn't exist there is a lot of things I didn't see.
  6. I don't understand how anyone could not check even some basic things to see it's possible, like where we have a current power connection between mainland Australia and Tasmania (500Mw) and are building in another 1.5Gw of undersea cable because the power demand is growing. If Tasmania with it's piddly pop of half a Million can make undersea cables viable then there are no engineering or feasibility issues surrounding the tech. You don't need to be an engineer to work that out.
  7. They will if they come preinstalled on easily available and suitable hardware. Most users (including a large portion of tech enthusiasts) aren't interested in rooting a phone or trying to install Linux, they'd rather just enjoy the tech out of the box.
  8. I'm thinking a switching mosfet, I reckon the poly was a dead short and the inrush current killed it.
  9. Nope, just the PC components, everything else in the house survived just fine.
  10. I see a dark day in our future when you won't be able to transfer anything between your phone and computer without creating an account with some company.
  11. I've only had 2 PSU's die from about 40 machines over 30 years. One was a power surge (undetectable normally, but I knew because it happened when they replaced the meter on my house and turned the power back on), it blew not only the PSU but every component it powered as well (that was a middle of the road Antec from the late 90's early 00's). The other was a cheap Chinese no name brand that just went bang one day, it didn't kill anything else though.
  12. No idea, I don't make quick judgments, Suffice to say if I were told I had to move to either china or the US I don't think I would have to think about it long.
  13. The US already has something better than government ID, they have facial recognition so they can see where you've been or where your going without you even having o sign up. https://www.fbi.gov/news/testimony/facial-recognition-technology-ensuring-transparency-in-government-use
  14. call when chatGPT (or any AI) can generate the keys for my car.
  15. A very minor step backwards and a major step forward. Just like the results of every advancement humans have ever made. The problem is people don't know diddly squat about the IR, but everyone thinks they do. The existence of poverty on some parts of the world is not evidence that the IR was bad for working class people or factory workers or whatever position people want to argue will be next. The human population will cap out at 11B, once the standard of living in africa and asia is on par with the rest of us they will stop having 15 kids each and settle for 2 like the average in most advanced nations. Hence population will cap at 11B.
  16. Given some of the dumb reasons people give to buy apple I would say it all kinda balances out now.
  17. There is not going to be mass unemployment, That type of thing never happens, There are redundancies when new tech comes in, but those jobs are always replaced with something that is less physical, pays more and is safer. You can look over the last 2000 years of human development to see this, why would anyone think that all of sudden this will change? And for those quoting the industrial revolution, perhaps you can tell me why in the UK, a place where they have minimal natural resources, minimal land area and an archaic monarchy and they started the IR preferring to adopt new tech every time it was developed, do they still have very low unemployment and better than average personal wealth and a strong economy? The IR, and every tech development since has actually created jobs and these jobs and tech have been managed by governments for well over 200 years now so that the economy doe not fall apart by something like mass unemployment.
  18. Honestly, I think whats really killing these events is the ticket price. It doesn't seem to matter what you are going to see be it cars, games, computer hardware, caravans or even sex toys, you may as well buy tickets for the rolling stones or ACDC, because that's about how much you have to cough up at many of these things. If they don't get enough foot traffic then the advertising reach for these companies is not worth the effort. Hell they could probably make more $$ by offering a few new in game skins rather than trying to impress a bunch of people who haven't bought the game yet.
  19. The problem is tech people understand encryption but not the gravity of it's effects in certain activities. Law enforcement/politicians understand the effects of it, but lack the ethical compass in proposing a solution and journalists can be either but lack the accuracy/honesty in their reporting.
  20. See, proof that the word startup means people will throw $$$ at you. You Don't even need to have a proof of concept as they will fund that too. These guys have just created a good paying job for themselves without having to promise any ROI.
  21. The whole thing is fucked, and honestly anyone who thinks they know enough about it to take a side is just as ignorant as the comments they disagree with. Obviously there are a lot of problems that underpin this particular case, not the least is the one where this chatbot seems to create an echo chamber that amplifies the rhetoric. If that is the case then it isn't going to help anything other than give already fallible humans another reason to further believe their own ideals (be they good or bad).
  22. Poor people have bigger problems than twitter, In fact I would argue that twitter and facebook have never done anything good for poor people. Give them the perception of being a part of something? not when the rich people keep posting pictures of their "VACAY". Giving them the illusion of a voice? not when that voice is so muddied with poor information that they actually do themselves a disservice. Making them feel like they are as well informed as you? Everyone thinks they know better, twitter doesn't and has never helped that in any way shape or form. In fact I highly doubt anyone is better off for having twitter or facebook before or after musk.
  23. Meh, I can't think of a single reason anyone would want to rely on a twitter poll for anything other than maybe proving an opinion is more popular than another opinion when we ignore facts.
  24. No one said they did. Please read my posts (in context) if you are going to respond to them. I really don't know what any of that has to do with what I said.
