  1. BF3 is how I measure my performance because it's a game I actually play for more than an hour (unlike Crysis), and I got at least a 15fps bump with much fewer dips in fps. forgot to mention I'm on 5890x1080 res a single 1080p will just outright downclock Titan SLi - nowhere near enough stress to put the GPU's to work at full boost speeds. Had to game on a single 1080P while waiting for one of my monitors on an RMA, the Titans kept running at ~700MHz
  2. another vote for overrated from me got 4 gentle typhoons ap15 - my 2 SP120's and stock H80i fans sit on my desk It's not just that they're loud - the motor just generates the WORST kind of loud you could probably get from a fan Sure it's quiet below ~1000rpm, but I think that's a stupid statement; most decent fans are quiet below that point
  3. did you enable PCIe 3.0? It's usually on 2.0 by default and easy to miss I don't care about how many people think the difference is neglible - I found a huge improvement on actual Titan SLi <-- Titan SLi and 3930k owner (haven't OC'd the cpu yet)
  4. had a 1200W OCZ, returned it mainly because I went overkill on my power needs but my highest dislike is that none of the connectors on the PSU side felt solid. if I tugged too much on the cables in the back panel, they would shift around in their PSU socket. they didn't fall out, but it didn't feel good - on a 1200W PSU I think that's inexcusable they didn't even click when being pushed in
  5. I think they should just flat out release all the weapon stats and spread patterns on battlelog THEN I could have fun with all the new attachments on playing with loadouts on my way home the Battlelog is just too sparse as-is for me to find anything worth doing other than finding a game. the weapon stats/spread are so easily found, it's not really worth hiding DICE
  6. why do people care so much about another group of peoples' (editors) opinions? trying to subjectively number 100 games? why bother picking hairs...as long as it's recognized on the list is good enough
  7. schools giving kids laptops and ipads, schools getting full wifi, is something that infuriates me to no end I 100% understand moving with the times. For one, moving to e-books instead of expensive textbooks? Good move long term imo BUT WHY IS THIS NECESSARY? I constantly hear how school budgets are getting cut again and again - teachers getting laid off or leaving for a better profession. So why are school districts deciding to spend so much money on upgrading technology? WHY? I just can not wrap my head around it no kid NEEDS a laptop, ipad, nor wifi. It is a convenience. It seriously blows my mind why schools here (Texas) are spending so much money while their budgets crumble and they keep losing staff. where is the push for quality teaching? it's amazing how many terrible teachers there are out there asdlfkajl;dfkajl;dfkajdlfkasjdf;laskjdf;aldfka ugh I hate the screwed up education system I could go on for days. and I'm not a big political/social issue debate person
  8. I can't be the only one that thinks Gigabyte Windforce coolers look stupid can I? Not a big fan of eVGA ACX either I don't know why, but it just looks so cheap compared to Twin Frozr or CU2
  9. main thing with reds that some people hate/leave them for is that they highlight sloppy typing since they're so sensitive, if you even slightly graze a key, it will probably register. I hated it, until I took a step back and told myself it's because I'm not as accurate a typer as I think I am for instance, if you feel so comfortable with typing that you type words in one set of finger motions - if you're not accurate with those and graze keys, you will just type up a garbled mess now I'm actually re-teaching myself to actually type each key rather than "swaft"-ing through the motions - if that made any sense so I love reds. imo, they feel like the "hardcore" switch. very unforgiving, but feel so instant and direct. I simply felt like I moved smoother and faster the first time I gamed on reds
  10. Dimitry - yes! a very natural public speaker TastyPC - meh, she just feels like she's talking so unnaturally every time I watch her but Tom Logan? ugh...I had to unsubscribe from his channel. He just rambles on and on with every single video/review. I don't mind going in depth, but I feel his videos are literally just rambles and completely disorganized "now uh...the card is in...we're going to...uh, I'm going to run the benchmarks in this system - oh look at that! look at the lights/design. doesn't that look great? - so yeah I'm going to run the benchmarks - you can see it open here - run them for a few hours and come back and see the results. So yeah..." why? why can't you just cut to the results and quickly mention the setting/setup or leave it as text? why waste time rambling about how it's going to be done? The key point to having ANYONE on the show is to have someone strong at public speaking and keeping conversations going. Live callers were not - which is what slowed the show to a crawl (on top of the calling setup). Any good show has to have people that bring a conversation - not just famous figureheads (like Craig Ferguson celebrity interviews versus someone boring like David Letterman)
  11. the evga LED controller program is horribly buggy though - especially on SLi. you set one, then switch to the other gpu to change that setting - it seems to just forget the first gpu setting pretty meh overall with it so buggy :( (on Titan SLi, but probably the same for any reference cooler)
  12. has anyone tried to buy/pay for something on Origin with Paypal? everytime I do it, it's not even properly working. ALL the windows are improperly sized and you can't even read it even when they're taking my money they can't do it right

LOL why so mad? all I did was ask if you tried the 598's? did I say "ZOMG DID YOU TRY DEH 598 U NOOB LOLZORS? YOU'RE WRONGZORS" then you go on to list the ones you have....because it....what, you're trying to win the internet? prove how right you are? all I did was provide input on headphones I actually owned for long periods of time but SOMEONE DISAGREES WITH ME ON THE INTERNET I HAVE TO ARGUE AND PROVE HOW RIGHT I AM!

    Dvi vs vga

as well as length use a VGA cable too long and the picture will be unbearably fuzzy unless the monitor only supports VGA, I don't see a point in using VGA these days
  15. the only game these days that I play without surround is Dota2, so I just run it in a smaller window (screen size on this game doesn't really matter that much, the UI still takes up the same portion of the space) the annoyance with re-activating surround is having to close all windows

have you actually tried the 598's? or anything other than the ad700's? gunshots sound like they're being played through a tin can on the ad700's. voices sound completely flat. heavy LMG's in BF3 sound completely fake Malveaux's post on them http://www.head-fi.org/t/569857/ath-ad700-vs-hd598s#post_7725992 http://www.head-fi.org/t/623964/ad700-good-to-be-used-as-a-gaming-headset#post_8634152 and you just have to check his profile to see his massive headphone list going from ad700's to 598's was a pure upgrade. I didn't feel any loss in soundstage. If I lost any, I gained the ability to hear way more realistic gunshots, and gunshots that sound different since there's actually bass. I can hear suppressor's much more distinctly because every sound feels much more fleshed out plus I hate the comfort of the ad700's. they have no headband (literally none) so they rest down on your ears. Unless you're the intended size, the "wing" design is useless. I tried the rubber band mod, but they still felt annoying after a while

598's if you can find some used or bump your budget a bit it sickens me how overrated AD700's are. I sold mine for a set and debated a long time - ended up with Senn 598's. AD700's are extremely anemic in sound quality. They're rated highly because most people have never had a non-"gaming" headset so it's mindblowing to them. Everyone on Hi-Fi forums who's actually owned multiple headphones doesn't recommend them Someone summed it up as: "Buy AD700's, and you will eventually buy another set of headphones. Buy HD 598's, and it will probably be your last" (unless you become an audiophile and constantly want to try/upgrade)
  18. for me it was 1. Skyrim - yeah it's not really a fair comparison since it breaks vram limits from mods, but Skyrim is one of the few games that both look good and is actually FUN to play (unlike other intensive games like Crysis3). Even if you buy a card for one game, what matters is if you play that one game enough to enjoy it. once I realized that point, I stopped worrying about "___ is good enough" and more about what I want out of a card 2. It bugged me that you can't SLi more vram. having already dealth with the vram cap, I didn't want to ever ever ever have to deal with it again. I can add horsepower all I want with more cards (as expensive as it is), but if I hit the vram cap, you're pretty much done 3. I build systems, I don't constantly upgrade. I wanted to let the hurt to the wallet be over with - move on - and enjoy I'm enjoying my nvidia surround Titan SLi don't really know what my point is....I'm tired...but that's my short story
  19. last time at Micro Center there was a middle-eastern guy being a stereotypical asshole, unfriendly, person now, the reps at Micro Center are actually smart and understand computers. the sales associate was doing everything right helping him find a new computer. he figured out his needs (typical old person usage, just web browsing) and brought him to a computer with an i5 (maybe even an i3, can't remember) - overall a very reasonable computer for his needs he complained about the price and how he was being suckered into another slow computer - he wondered why not the bigger one (larger case, i7, 16gb ram, ssd and HDD, more work and power user oriented PC). the rep was smart and talked about he would 100% not be needing the power of an i7 the customer kept being stubborn saying he's sick of webpages being so slow to load the sales rep remained civil and explained to him that it was probably his router and/or ISP the customer kept being a total uncooperative PITA and argued he wanted the bigger one so his webpages weren't so slow felt bad for the sales rep, he was being helpful in every way possible - some people just need to be slapped
  20. yeah, semi-old thread, but a few reviews have popped up of this cooler recently I'm actually thinking of getting it. Cooling performance is so-so, price is a little high, but the looks are definitely unique - looks like a great departure from simple heatsink towers with fans slapped on them sadly most sources say release date is in August...we'll see if I'm still interested by then
  21. /incoming small rant how about doing an overview video (an "unboxing" of the software)? go over the features? explain how it's better? explain why I should be interested in it OTHER than just blindly following you because you're Linus ventrilo, skype, mumble has been around for years. as much as I love your video's, I'm not so blindly guided to just drop what reliable and satisfying software I've been using for years just because you said so as a sponsor, I need to sell the product/brand - just telling people to download it or softly forcing it (for live calls) doesn't leave the best impression of "sponsor". I know what it's like to have sponsors, and I strongly dislike this blind recommendation method of "promoting" - sell it to me, and sell it to your viewers /end rant, but my 2 cents. you make videos all the time, making one to showcase the software surely isn't too much to ask for
  22. been meaning to do this too, but I underestimated how little space there is under the motherboard. most led strips won't fit under there well I'll probably look into the EL wire stuff when I do mine
  23. another vote for chipsets - I'm re-entering the PC scene from way back when AMD Athlons ruled the market. I just sold my Xeon CPU, and used the money to go from my LGA2011/X79 to Z87/LGA1150 - only to realize/learn how with Intel, newer isn't always better and that each chipset/socket had different strengths/weaknesses/aspects to them (for instance, my Titan SLi was much happier with the PCIe 3.0 16x/16x on X79). I wasted a whole weekend putting the system together on the Z87, just to take it apart and return it the next day thankfully I didn't lose any money in the process, but it was a huge time waster. Intel chipset progression is a little hard to follow for new comers imo
  24. Logitech for me they just feel like a big manufacturer/brand that follows the trend of making "gaming" products but all of them miss the details - stuff that others wouldn't have missed being actual gamers Logitech G35 - I loved the features on it, and was executed well. the attachment/hinges where the ear-cups attach are composed of cheap plastic. Unless you have a small head, the stretch on these hinges will eventually just break. It's near impossible to patch it back together. I was forced to buy another headset - anyone who actually knew anything about headsets would have seen this construction flaw imo. Looking at the new ones, the design looks the same Logitech MX Revolution (the original) - absolutely loved this mouse, the features and execution were great. I still miss it - the exposed charging contacts (instead of a connector/cable) rusted within a few months. Something that experienced developers probably would have seen coming Logitech G700s - the coating on this mouse is very poor for a heavy-use gaming mouse. just like the previous I've tried, the coating will wear fast and feel awful Logitech G25 - great wheel, best in the price range - could the shifter feel ANY cheaper? the pedals have hardly any feedback. too many buttons on the shifter, yet only 2 on the wheel? I hear the G27 is still only a small improvement on the previous design As nice as they look on the outside, I just look at my pile of broken Logitech products and remind myself to not bother
  25. Insert, though there have been rare occasions I used it I use the rest of the keys in that area though - those that think Home and End keys are useless should start trying to incorporate them imo. Everytime you spam left/right to move your cursor across letters/words? realize you could do that in ONE stroke with home/end. Once I started using them, I can't see myself owning a tenkeyless keyboard - too useful for productivity/navigation
