Some ISP's require configuration of the ONT (e.g. seperate VLANs for internet/voip/iptv) while others may be plug and play. Some may not allow you to use your own ONT at all. You'll have to check with the ISP, or at a site like dslreports.com

I have never seen an ONT that can just be thrown on fiber and work.

There is usually a management center that handles the config of the ONT and how it handles traffic. The core switches and routers are ALWAYS vlaned off so unless you know the vlan as well you cannot even use the connection or talk across it. I know this because I work for an ISP with fiber and work with other ISPs.

Correct. Also some ONT management centers request mac and serial numbers to allow the ONT to be recognized and attached to a connection which is what I enter in to enable it. But yeah it def can appear as though they are plug and play and I would screen shot and show you the ISP side but so much would be blurred it wouldnt be useful.

So long story short. I provision the profile(Speed, what port you are on on the ONT, VLAN (DHCP or Static)) then on site then hook up the ONT, I attach said profile to ONT, profile is pushed out, ONT reboots with new config and boom, you now has interwebs.

You cannot do that with CG-NAT when you and 1000 other people appear to the world to come from the same IP address. Maybe a VPN tunnel to somewhere that doesn't use CG-NAT could work but that's about it.

You have no options, your at your ISP's mercy, as they are the only ones who can open ports. Keep in mind port forwarding can only be done to 1 ip address, which means all the others who share that public IP with you would be screwed. Has India not moved to IPv6 yet? A few US providers dual stack addresses, giving IPv4 and v6 addresses.

FTTH can come in a GPON, BPON, EPON and others or Active Ethernet. PON's are a shared medium while active is a dedicated fiber and optics. ONT's are simply media converters, most have routing and other functions now as well. Many of my companies ONT's are simply bridges with no local management interface, some however are full Routers with a web gui as you would expect.

25$ for  500 mbps download / 25 mbps upload , in package with basic cable TV (SD and around 10-20 HD channels) I never watch, AND basic VOIP phone i never use.. just have it as it's cheaper as a bundle.

No data caps, rock steady, no complaints.

I could do better... Competitor has up to 1gbps up/down for some similar price range, but has worse tech support and respond slower to outages and i prefer stability and consistency (quality and high speeds any time instead of fluctuating but higher speeds)

IPv4 won't die for a VERY long time
It might not be on the public internet in 10 to 20 years but for ease of management of networks and the like, it will stick around for a very long time

my ISP is still waiting on the US to finally turn off IPv4 after being one of the first ISPs implementing IPv6.

unfortunately as long as governments keep running windows XP, IPv4 isnt out the door yet.

The top picture is an SC UPC connector but the bottom is and LC APC as you can see both fibers but really doesnt look like an LC connector.

Also that router could only be used if the ONT has a optical out which I personally havent seen. When we have install of fiber to customers equipment its usually ONT>Mikrotik (SFP router/switch)> customers router. But that is only our big customers.

I would never suggest running fiber into a house. To brittle if not handled correctly and would cost a crap ton.

Yep. Seems the g4 could use a bit of refinement . The interesting part is it does look pretty much equal  when seen on their native displays. I guess manufactures now tune the camera for their particular display.

I think you'd have to be blind to support the one on the left.... Colors are washed out, details are blending between similar colors, the focusing isn't sharp, and the it just looks like crap.
