I like the unboxings, it's the original reason I subscribed to LTT, when looking at products to buy I loved watching unboxing/first impression videos

Linus I love your unboxings, Also I might be the only person, but I love the unprofessional approach at things. I like the laid back stuff and things like that. You could just not do them as often, but daily news show sounds awesome and I can't wait for next year!
I love you linus...Just thought I would let you know (No homo, Wait, maybe a little bit)

I think you could do fewer unboxings but focus on making good reviews and guides, but not abandon unboxings all together.

So a considerably cheaper GPU isn't able to consistently beat a Titan's performance in every game?

If you need any help with it let me know. I am not a master of it by any means, but I have been using for a while now and really like its functionality. Also, when you do get it set up, set up a XFS filesystem not a EXT4 (the current linux distro OMV is using only allows EXT4 arrays to be 16 TB or smaller). This might not seem like a size you will ever reach, but in case you one day do... better start with an option that will let you then be in trouble later

Wow guys! Thanks a lot for the replies! It really help out a lot.

I'm definitely going to go down the custom route now and {EAC} Shoot em UP, I took a look at OMV and it seems to be better for my NAS needs.

Again thanks a lot guys, each and everyone of you are awesome!

habowh43 got a reaction from lexan02 in Blu - My first ever PC modding project
I already posted this build on the MNPCTech FB page, OCN & MNPCTECH forums a while ago but I thought to myself... hey, why not repost it here for others on the interwebz to see and to get some feedback from other people :P
Description: So this was my first ever PC mod and the very first PC I built from the ground up for myself. I went for a simple modding approach since I didn't trust myself enough to start butchering my case and I had been saving up for two summers to update my old Alienware Aurora (please don't hate me :/ lol) and I didn't have much time before starting school again to finish the whole thing. I chose a blue and black theme because it fits well with my room and honestly, I didn't want a 27" tall tower to stick out like a platypus in a Christmas tree. My mom would have hated me forever. :P
Anyway, here are the pics but I really want to take a moment to thank you guys for keeping the NCIX/LinusTechTips communities active since they've the ones who have helped me get started with computers!

I have a custom built nas, but I run openmediavault. I looked into freenas, but the ZFS file system it uses, while AMAZING, needs 1 GB of RAM per 1 TB of harddrive space. Which normally not a huge issue, I have a 7x3tb RAID 6 array, and planning to add more soon, so RAM was an issue for me. Besides that tho, I definitely say build your own, its much more expandable in the future, such as adding more drives.

Well you may think that 8TB seems a lot, but if it's a 2 bay NAS you either run RAID 1(with just 4TB which can disappear quickly) or JBOD with no data protection. Find it just too risky in my opinion.
Definitely recommend a custom NAS, it's a lot more flexible hardware and software wise, and as long as you are prepared to do a bit more work maintaining and troubleshooting, you can get a lot more value out of it for similar cost

you could maximum get 4 tb with redundancy so I'd say get a 4 bay NAS or go custom, If you're up for it I'd advise to go custom build.

Like you said, a NAS is awesome, but if thats outside you budget you can just install a second HDD like you mentioned.

Then I would use something like allway sync to sync the files over those disks, it also supports one way sync.
so when you accidentally remove something form the first drive it wont be removed from the second.

I find that this kind of backup (simple copy paste) works best for backing up photo's.

Like Looney, my first thought on these kind subjects is a NAS. A NAS is really something magical, especially if you build it yourself and are able to do whatever the hell you want with it.

In your case, I think a second HDD is the best route to go. Get a Caviar Green (awesome drives, btw) and use a syncing program. I'm not an expert on those pieces of software, but I know that DirSync Pro should be able to do everything you might want to.

If you ever want to look into syncing over the internet (e.g. put a file server at home and sync that with a laptop), you might want to look into Bittorrent Sync (BTS). BTS is freaking awesome! It's nearly a one click setup and works perfectly. I use it to sync my desktop, my NAS, my offsite server and my laptop. Completely free, encrypted and secure.

Reading through what others have posted, the 780 is a bit out of your budget. It's also not as good as a value card as a 770.
