Safe to move CPU from one motherboard to another?

Im just moving the CPU into a new board. Putting an i3 in the Z87 board for my bro with the same hardrive i think itll be fine right? -
Can i move my 4770k from a z87 board to a z97 board with no problems? will i have to reinstall windows? I feel like im gonna mess it up lol
