  1. Does this router handle the internet connection also?
  2. T440 and old shouldn't be in the same sentence ? Only kidding...I think if I recall you are HP mostly? Sorry if I'm miles off the mark there, been a while since I hung around here properly! ?
  3. You didn't explain your use case, how are you going to be interacting with this storage, your saying ISCSI, is it going to be a datastore? Purely datastore and nothing else?
  4. Agree, easiest way, IMO, to determine where the issue lies (hardware or software) is to boot to a linux live CD, check connected speed there and run a test. If its connected at 1Gbps then you know its a software thing with windows. If its still 10mbps, then likely a hardware issue somewhere. You don't need to know Linux to boot a live CD, just download one (Fedora or Ubuntu or similar) and burn the ISO to USB using Rufus USB on windows. Reboot to USB and check network config.
  5. Also when testing, make sure to enable every feature you plan to use to ensure that the device can keep up. Many of the throughput figures are given without much of the features enabled, then people turn them on and wonder why they can't get the maximum out of their links. I tried several devices that could get full potential out of our internet links, then when turning on some features would be drastically reduced.
  6. When you are looking at Fortigates, have a look at some Palo Alto equivalent devices also, Many people consider them way to expensive, but things have changed and we actually got higher spec Palo Altos for less than Fortigate were offering. Granted these were higher end devices than your looking at, but the sales rep can always go lower! Just don't limit yourself to looking at one manufacturer, try them all. You can get trial devices from pretty much everyone for free, I tried several different vendors for months at a time when looking for Firewalls. Definitely put in the time to find which one you like to work with and has the best features for you. One thing I did observe when I tried Fortinet, they aren't the best with firmware/updates...As in, the new firmwares they push seem to always have bugs.
  7. Seems like an odd choice to put it on one platform and not the other, knowing full well it will be cracked anyways. Also if you went to the expense of putting DRM on, surely you'd want to use it on both platforms? I wonder if the amount they spent on implementing DRM outweighed the amount they saved on piracy, even though they handed the game on a silver platter to pirates. Just seems like a strange decision all around!
  8. Really? Did not know this! So genuine question, why is Apple allowed to do this when M$ got fined over the whole browser choice thing on Windows back in the day? How is it really any different? I mean technically there are different browsers but not really going by what you say above!
  9. Indeed, use one from the range, just do not use the broadcast address. Great answer btw!
  10. I'd definitely go for the R620, the 11G series servers were a massive step up and they are good, but if you can get a 12G server then go for it assuming it fits your needs. They were just a bit "nicer", iDrac is nicer on them with more info and features, power consumption is lower, noise is better and it has a few more creature comforts. Lifecycle controller/BIOS was better on them too. Newer generation of CPU's too. So for me the R620 wins every time, assuming you don't need a 2U chassis. I've got a R420 which is pretty similar to the R620 in form factor and it's pretty quiet tbh. Switches, it can really come down to what you have used more or are more familiar with. HP commands are different to Dell and different to Cisco, even some of the products within Dell are different to other Dells, since they acquired some networking companies. Powerconnects will be the cheapest Dell ones you will get, they were the kind of entry level switches so look out for them, HP ones are good too, I really dislike HP servers (personal preference) but I really like their switches. Although I work extensively on Dell switches, they are good also. Although I don't have experience with Powerconnects really, we use their higher end switches.
  11. Indeed! We've ran both, hardware and virtual, both the same. We had both the K1000 and K2000. Also hated the fact they wouldn't give you the password
  12. Quest bought it...:D joking, Dell made it bad before they sold it. It became horrendously slow and I mean horrendous... fair enough we thought, lets rebuild a new one. Installed a fresh version literally out of the box as it comes, nothing inputted whatsoever into it, still the same slowness without us touching a thing. Been like that for many releases now. When I say slow, it would take a full 90 seconds to login. After that clicking any pages would take around 15 seconds to load. We eliminated all other variables in our environment also, so nothing there. Curiously, we assumed it was the database that was slow, since it references this for everything, however if I query the database directly, I can load 60000 support tickets in 0.9 seconds, so definitely the front end that has the issue.
  13. You are kidding right??? KACE is literally cancer in the past few years! Only kidding for the most part, if it works for you then I'm glad, we had to get rid of it after using for around 9 years now, became literally unusable.
  14. The thing with long range wifi (I've spent hours and hours and hours setting up AirFiber) is that there are so many variables within the environment that can affect it. Certainly you would hope at that short a distance that it should be able to achieve full speed, but again many environment variables such as line of sigh come into play. I would set your highest expectations to be 500mbps, if you get over that then bonus. I haven't worked with that model specifically so I can't tell you what to expect with that exact model.
  15. I am very experienced with Elasticsearch and Logstash, from what I've seen Graylog isn't too different. What's up? Edit: Sorry should have read the whole thread
  16. Pull the power cable and hold the power button down for 20 seconds (yes I know this is strange without the power cable in) and replug in and it should hopefully clear. If not you might need to do racadm reset
  17. What would you like suggestions on? You say you are happy with with your current Asustor and you've chosen another one, I don't think there is anything else to say, if it does everything you need and you know you will be happy with it, then go for it!
  18. It is good...but no I wouldn't recommend it for your needs, since you don't seem familiar with it (no offence intended) and given its complexity, I wouldn't recommend it. Also throwing blanket statements around like "its faster and more secure" isn't helpful from your friend, can guarantee that he has not done a back to back comparison of both setups with your specific hardware. If you are happy with the performance currently, why change? Unless there is something else that you want it for.
  19. Direct from the PCEngines site:
  20. No it doesn't, has Intel i211 nics??
  21. Get a PCEngines APU4, should do the trick!
  22. No, just one DHCP server per network* *exceptions to this do exist but none you should worry about
  23. I heard this earlier and thought god damn it. It's also worth mentioning that this is likely to still make its way into Britain even if we "do the brexit" unfortunately. Having said that, I saw a tweet earlier from someone saying that this has been taken out of context by news companies and that the article has been amended so that it warns or alerts the driver but doesn't do anything, how true that is I'm not sure!
  24. Ugh how annoying. NGINX are an absolute dream company to deal with, they really are. Literally my favourite company to contact for support or assistance, by far exceeds anyone else I've experienced. I hope this doesn't change them or their rock solid product.
  25. I haven't used 17.04 and I haven't used the desktop version of Ubuntu in forever, but seems they removed net-tools from 17.04 install by default. Try typing "ip addr" instead. Or just install another Distro
