  1. Past hour
  2. You can easily get some more performance and less power by just tweaking a couple settings tho
  3. I guess I'll be reinstalling then, just feels absurd when safe mode still works. At least I'm lucky that I can still screenshot my program files and appdata folder to remember everything I had.
  4. I'm still a beginner software developer (in college right now) but I'm also an intern for a major automobile insurer in the United States and handle total loss claims. They gave all of us 3 monitors for our work from home setup and it doesn't feel like enough. In office we only get two monitors and the difference in efficiency by having that third monitor is absolutely phenomenal. I actually see a decrease in average length of my calls when I get that third monitor, and when I code I also notice it feels more efficient as well. TL;DR: More monitors is better. Source: Am a beginner programmer, also I see the difference in my WFH setup.
  5. It's not "overclocking" that bricked it, it's the crashes. Same reason you don't yank power out of a running system, anything that may be in the process of being written to storage will be garbled if it's interrupted. When it's just a data file it might not be as big of a deal, but if it's a critical file for the operating system or even worse the filesystem metadata you're hosed. It's just that when you go do some overclock tuning things are going to be unstable and crash frequently until you've found the right settings so drastically imcrease the risk of something getting corrupted. Not to mention that at bad settings the processor might actually produce wrong results and corrupt data in transit too. So yeah, you do that on a temp install on another drive, then when you've found good settings you go back to your normal system. ...and you should always have a backup of your system/data anyway.
  6. this is because it can actually brick the hard-drive beyond repair. which yes *is* hardware... basically it didn't just brick windows it also bricked the drives firmware (possibly) also im not convinced it cant be fixed but you'd really need an expert in these things... me, i never really reinstalled windows after i installed it in 2017, countless overclocks, hardware changes... but the thing is, i have backups, and besides i never encountered dism/ sfc scannow not working (usually dism fixes sfc scannow)
  7. The ToS explicitly states that you have access to Netflix content primarily within the country in which you have established your account. Using a VPN to access content outside of the geographic location outside of the one where you established your account would violate these rules. The rules also explicitly states that you are not allowed to circumvent any content protection (which is also part of the DMCA). Using a VPN do circumvent DRM, since geo-restrictions are a type of DRM. You are not allowed to use a tool to get around DRM. The DRM is circumvented. "The detection isn't completely removed, just tricked" holds about as much water as spoofing an activation server and redirecting activation requests for let's say a game to the spoofed server. It's true that you didn't remove the DRM, but you circumvented its intended purpose, which is not allowed. Netflix also do continuously hunt down and block VPNs. The law is fairly clear about this. Is there some mechanism in place that restricts access and control over content? Then you are not allowed to mess with it. You're not allowed to disable it, modify it, trick it, block it from serving its purpose, or anything of that sort. That is both in the DMCA, as well as the Netflix ToS. There are plenty of things sold as a service that can be used for illegal things. I just looked through the marketing material for some big VPN providers such as NordVPN, PIA, SurfShark and ExpressVPN, and none of the advertising for example accessing the Netflix catalog of countries for other countries. ExpressVPN advertise watching Netflix, but it seems very carefully worded to not mention getting around geo-restrictions. It basically just says "you can watch Netflix while connected to the VPN" and then nearby it mentions being able to secure a video stream while on public Wi-Fi. AdBlockers are different because you aren't circumventing DRM. AdBlockers modify which content is fetched (and/or disabled). It's basically like writing a script that changes the background color of a website. There are also arguments to be made about the ToS of the websites and the agreement process. It's just a very different situation compared to Netflix. Tricking a website into serving you content that would otherwise not have been available to you by using an AdBlocker on the other hand is far more clear-cut. That is not allowed for the same reasons using a VPN to trick a server into serving you content that you would otherwise not have access to isn't allowed. The EU hasn't made region blocking illegal, and Netflix are still allowed to block content based on region. I assume you are referring to EU Regulation 2018/302. There are some very important details in that regulation. 1) It only applies to restrictions between different EU countries. Even if Netflix was subject to this regulation (more on this later), they would still be allowed to put up geo-restrictions between for example the US and some European countries. The restrictions are only not allowed to exist when it is between EU member countries. 2) The regulation specifically addresses what it calls "unjustified geo-blocking". It is not a blanket ban on all geo-restrictions. 3) The important part in the regulation regarding this debate is in paragraph 8. I'll quote it for you: The law itself specifically mentions broadcasting of sports events as an example, but the way I read it (with my very limited legal knowledge), the exemption applies to other audiovisual services where territorial licenses exist as well.
  8. It's different for every person. As strange as it sounds there are people who can't even tell the difference between 60Hz and 144Hz. But there are basically 3 aspects that change with the refresh rate, all of which have been tested by YouTubers and reviewers: Blind tests done by JayzTwoCents showed they could all reliably tell the difference between 60 and 120, but between 120 and 240 they were just guessing. They were basically only looking at motion smoothness though. In terms of input lag, LTT measured a very noticeable upgrade in player performance from 60 to 144, but not a big upgrade to 240. So to get a big advantage out of 240 Hz you will need the skill to back it up. The monitor won't magically make you better. More casual players like Pauls Hardware couldn't get much out of 240Hz, but Shroud certainly could. In terms of motion clarity, the monitor in question needs the response times to back the refresh rate up. For example an OLED using 240Hz is roughly comparable to slower LCDs that run 360Hz. A 360Hz OLED is roughly comparable to slower LCDs running 540Hz and so on.
  9. Hi there, I currently own two 27 inch monitors, a Cooler Master Tempest GP27Q and an Asus XG27WQ, which I have been running together for nine months or so. I want to upgrade to either an ultrawide, or super ultrawide OLED panel. Now I'm not quite sure which monitor to go for. My budget is around £1000. I mainly game on my PC, 90 percent of the time, so that's the main use. I've got a 7800X3D CPU and 4080 GPU, so I guess I can go either way with 1440p or 4K. Can I please get some recommendations? Thank you.
  10. Okay I tried all those. So I'm correct in assuming there's not a "fix your current windows install with the help of a bootable USB" option.
  11. Startup repair only fixes things like not being able to find the Windows install to boot. Other options are to select a system restore point or system image to restore from...
  12. I do really hate how windows can be totally bricked by something as simple as an overlock that fails to boot though. Overclocking is hardware related, don't understand why windows can be totally bricked by it.
  13. I haven't tried it but there is also a flatpak as well
  14. Ok but what is the way to repair windows with the help of a bootable USB? Like what button / option? Because I can't find it, unless it's startup repair, which doesn't finish. If it is startup repair only, I guess I'm out of options.
  15. See this is what I mean lmao, some people say its hard to tell, whereas others say it's game changing I guess I'll just have to give one a go in a shop?
  16. I mean there's always "a way to try" but it won't be able to do something useful in all cases depending on what's broken.
  17. Can't do that without booting into windows with network. Currently it's only booting into safe mode without network.
  18. I already have the usb stick with windows on it, can boot from it and can reinstall windows with it, but it warns that it will not transfer settings and programs to the new install. I thought there was always a way to use a boot usb to repair a broken windows, that's what I'm trying to find but can't find. Or would that just be startup repair? Because that also fails from the usb.
  19. Going from 144 to 240/280 was huge for me the difference is instantly noticeable but going from 280 to 360 was not big at all. Currently sitting on 1440p 300hz and it seams fine for 30+yo me atm.
  20. Hello everyone, As a follow-up to my previous discussion, where I sought advice for upgrading my CPU, RAM, and motherboard, I've decided on the components for my new build. I'm planning to upgrade to: AMD Ryzen 9 7900X3D MSI MAG B650 TOMAHAWk Kingston FURY Beast RGB DDR5 Full PC Part Picker List However, I'm now in need of a new AIO cooler that supports AM5 and is capable of handling overclocking for the Ryzen 9 7900X3D. My previous setup included a Deepcool Gamerstorm Captain 240 PRO, which unfortunately isn't compatible with the new AM5 socket without an adapter. At this point I'll have upgraded every single component in my computer so I may as well purchase another case & just have two computers. I really loved the RGB integration and the aesthetic of my old Rosewill CULLINAN MX ATX Mid Tower Case, but it’s discontinued, and I need something similar that fits the new build. I am particularly looking for a case and AIO cooler that meet the following criteria: 1) RGB Synchronization: Both the AIO cooler and the case should have similar or fully syncable RGB fan controls. 2) PSU Basement: A basement to hide the PSU and manage cables better. 3) Full Glass Side Panel: Preferably a tempered glass side to showcase the internal components. 4) Color Matching: Black to match the motherboard and Titan X GPUs. 5) Storage Compatibility: At least 2 full-size HDD cages. 6) Dust Protection: Dust filters at every ingress point to keep the components clean. I've been shopping around for new cases and I've been shocked to see that a lot of the options I've seen don't even have basements to hide the PSU. The options I’ve seen like the Lian Li PC-O11 Dynamic, NZXT H9 Flow, and Corsair Vengeance C70 don’t meet all these criteria, especially missing the PSU basement which is crucial to me. It seems to be extremely difficult to find a case that has all the features I want because of pcpartpicker filter limitations. I would greatly appreciate if you could recommend any cases and AIO coolers that fit these requirements. If you know of any resources with advanced search criteria that could help me find the perfect case, please share those as well. Thank you for your help and looking forward to your suggestions!
  21. Done that twice already, tried with the stable and beta,... I'm at trying it within a VM at this point
  22. Uninstall BOINC and delete all the BOINC files and start again, that might fix it
  23. honestly i get it, but that's why you make backups especially before doing things like overclocking which is known to possibly corrupt stuff beyond repair. take that as a lesson even if you can't fix it now. also this... as long the drive works it should be easy to get files and even settings off it...
  24. Nnnnngh I'm getting crazy, didn't change anything, still reporting the puny CPU time
  25. If the response times are a tad too slow, you won't get better motion clarity. You still get the lower input lag coming from a higher refresh rate though.
  26. TRY THIS https://superuser.com/questions/1752883/how-to-do-an-in-place-upgrade-of-windows it'll only work if there's an update tho obviously. its also odd dism didn't fix it... still worth a try... otherwise it might just not be fixable from the sound of it
