  1. Past hour
  2. So I'll start by saying I have been googling and deep diving into this issue for the past week. I have found similar situations to the one I'm in but they remained unanswered. So to begin I am a Tech at Ford, our scan tool (the VCM3) can communicate wirelessly with our computers via two DWA-131 Wireless dongles(one in the VCM one in laptop). I use a MK 2 FZ-55 tough book for a good reason, it sees a ton of abuse in a shop environment. The Problem I have is the DWA-131 sticks out from the laptop, gets caught on things, and in general can end badly. So I noted there is a USB-C port in the drive bay, I have modified the blank drive bay to accept a wifi adapter that has a screw on antenna( I attempted this with the DWA-131, but unless the VCM3 is to my left it has a SUPER weak signal, very bad when programming a modern vehicle). So to my; "please I'm begging for your help question". I have gotten a generic wireless NIC to work flawlessly with Ford's software and the VCM. My issue is the VCM3 isn't always generating the network for the NIC to connect to, as soon as you disconnect the VCM from the vehicle, it looses power and network disappears. Now on my CF-54 on windows 10, I could tell the second wireless NIC(one for conencting to VCM) to "forget this network" on all networks but the one it connects to the scan tool with. However, in windows 11, even if i tell the NIC(for the scan tool) to forget all networks except the VCM one, windows 11 adds all the known networks from the primary NIC. So as soon as I unplug the VCM, the second NIC connects to shop internet. I have gone through GPO's, local security policy's, registries, .inf files. I honestly don't know what to do, never had this "pulling information from another NIC automatically" What I need to happen is to basically set it so that one of my 2 NICs ONLY connect to one SSID, and nothing else. Now I mentioned "forget this network" that works for like 20 minutes, then suddenly the main NIC's "known networks" get imported to the USB NIC and it connects to shop internet. I will add this doesnt happen with the DWA-131, cant seem to find the setting that gets applied to this thing to prevent it from connecting to any SSID automatically except the VCM, but the range on this adapter is AWFUL for my desired use I attached a photo cause I don't know If I explained it well
  3. It does seem that way. I disabled transcoding in the Plex server settings, and got an error that said "Not enough cpu for conversion of this item", which is a sort of generic error when almost anything goes wrong during the playback when transcoding is disabled. My VM CPU is pinned at 100% when playing content with transcoding enabled - admittedly, it's only 2.3GHz due to it being a bit of an older Xeon. Funnily enough, giving the VM an extra 4 cores, bumping it up to 12, seemed to mostly alleviate the problem, although it's still running at 100%. I don't want to shell out for a Shield Pro. I think my dad has a Chromecast with Google TV or whatever that he doesn't use. Would that work? Worst case - I just use VLC. It's not a huge problem. Cheers, I'll give it a look.
  4. The issue here is streaming a movie through Chrome. I'm pretty sure that Plex will 100% transcode for Chrome... no matter the content, native resolution, or whatever. Also, the free version does not use hardware transcoding whatsoever. You could probably remedy this issue by downloading a proper app for Plex on your OS instead of streaming through a browser.
  5. Hello I´ve had some parts for a long time ( ryzen 7 5700x , 32gb ram 3200mhz , asus tuf b550m gaming plus and a xpg pylon 650w psu) I´ve had a rtx 3060 which i had no problems before that i sold I recently bought a rtx 4070 that i played for 3 months without any problem but yesterday my pc completely hanged while using windows media player , i was watching a recorded video I remember r6 siege was running at the background (i´ve alt tabbed) My computer never hanged while playing games or intensive gpu tasks ( ran heaven benchmark for about 10 hours to test the gpu when i got it ) I started using wmp and first the image hanged ( while the sound kept playing in the background) then the system completely froze after I can´t find any display driver error crash or something relevant in the event viewer This was not registered as bsod as well , windows only says that a improper shutdown happened There is no kernel reports or dumps to check either I have this in the reliability history One detail that i have to add that i recently installed g hub , don´t know if the logitech software can cause this maybe I also tested the ram with memtest86 and no erros were shown Descrição Um problema com o hardware fez com que o Windows parasse de funcionar corretamente. Is there a way to read this log? Thanks
  6. A friend of mine is planning a build, while talking we pretty much got stuck on making a decision The budget is not a problem, but he doesn't want to spend on something he won't use, which makes sense. Here's what he plans to do: Front-end Development for Web, but has plans to learn / use Back-end Little to no gaming, mostly League of Legends in 1080p, will likely switch to 1440p Would like to learn Photoshop and Adobe XD Even if he doesn't game much, he would like to have the option of being able to upgrade the PC further. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Having said all of that, here's what I had in mind and also my doubts / comments on each of them: AM4 - Ryzen 5600G or 5700G - No GPU If I recall correctly Photoshop can be GPU accelerated, what if it doesn't run well on integrated graphics? AM4 is the past gen, so I feel he would be spending money on something new... but old, if that makes sense AM4 - Ryzen 5600 or 5700 - RTX 3050 or 3060 The GPU seems to be more than enough for his little gaming and Photoshop Same concern regarding "purchasing something new but old gen", for both the CPU and GPU AM5 - Ryzen 8XXXG - No GPU He would be on current gen and looks like the integrated graphics are more than enough for what he does Even if the budget is not a problem, I wonder if it's money well spent or not I've seen videos giving a bad review to Ryzen 8000 APUs AM5 - Ryzen 7600 - RTX 4060 Even if Ryzen 9000 and RTX 5000 are around the corner, these components are new enough He probably will not need to upgrade the PC for quite some time What are your thoughts on these builds? Do you have any other to suggest? (explain your suggestion, please) For Intel, is there anything newer than AM4 but not as expensive as AM5 that we should take a look at?

They mostly prefer black or yellow. Just for the love of god DON'T USE CYAN
  9. Alright, none of what you guys suggested actually worked. I just did the old "unplug it and plug it back in" method and that did the job. I reseated the GPU and unplugged and plugged in every single power connector. That did the job. Maybe it was the motherboard power connector or the CPU power connector. It clearly wasn't the GPU connector since I tried unplugging and plugging it back in multiple times.

I'd look up each model number to ensure you are not getting an SMR drive if you intend to use it for boot or storage of lots of small files - MIDIs, DLLs, etc. Especially important with a laptop drive, you absolutely don't want SMR there. I believe all of the Black drives 2017 and former are all CMR, a quick search seems to verify that.

  13. If it’s transcoding…. A lot. Transcoding 4k is not what you want to be doing. If it’s not transcoding, it uses effectively no CPU or GPU power. Sounds like you are transcoding, which means your playback device doesn’t support the media your playing (likely a codec issue… tv, or receiver, or chrome Plex client, or multiple) don’t support the file and are forcing a transcode. None at all. You’re talking about an 18mbps file…. Networking is 1000mbps assuming a gigabit LAN which has been the standard for over 20 years as this point. This is not your issue. I run my homelab like this. Plex runs in a Ubuntu server VM with my movies in a TrueNAS VM, I have my movies directory network mounted in the Ubuntu VM, this is normal and how real enterprises actually function. Your setup is “fine”. I lost you a bit with where everything is running, but nothing there is the issue. I guarantee the issue is you are not actually direct streaming the 4k media, and that is forcing a transcode, and the 1) hurts quality but 2) that PC likely can’t handle it. If VLC works, my assumption is the Plex chrome client can’t. Get yourself an nvidia shield tv pro (get the pro, not the cheaper cylindrical stick version, the pro has greater codec support), and use that as your plex playback client plugged into your TV.
  14. First part of the upgrade done, I had a old Toshiba laptop that I took the ram out of so I could upgrade the HP pavilion. Working on finding an SSD that is compatible. Thanks for all the help and I'll keep you posted
  15. Either buy the additional storage space from Google with their subscription or buy a NAS and a bunch of high capacity hard drives to store that stuff at home, which could also double as a backup solution for your other devices. There's no free lunch here, you're not gonna find a magic bullet that saves you a bunch of storage space for video files. Never mind that if you compress everything, you will need to decompress it every time you want to access it, which takes time and processing power.
  16. This post is mostly so people can laugh at me. I'm prepared for it. I know all of this was a bad idea when I set it up. I was trying to watch a movie last night - .mkv, 16mbps bit rate, 4K - and I noticed when running it through Plex, it was having a bit of a struggle - pausing every minute or so, buffering, things like that. When I run the same movie through VLC, it works no worries. Now, I am not ignorant of my dogshit media setup. Part of the reason I did it this was was a) I just wanted to see if I could, and b) it was just meant to be a stopgap measure until I bought more hardware. Needless to say, step b never panned out. I have a media computer hooked up to my dumb TV - a Pentium CPU of some kind, a GT 1030, and 4 (four) GB of DDR4 RAM. I know, I'm planning to buy an 8GB stick, I'm just lazy as hell. Running Plex through Chrome obviously caused some grief, because Chrome immediately ate up 700MB of RAM without me even having a tab open. Furthermore, my horrific Plex Server setup is as follows: 8 cores-worth of an Intel Xeon E5-2670v3 and up to 8GB of RAM (dynamic memory allocation). It's running on a Windows Server VM, running in Hyper-V on a different Windows Server box. Here's the kicker - my media files are on a DIFFERENT server, on an 8TB drive. So - and here's the bit that will make you throw up in your mouth - I mapped the drives from my data server onto my Plex server machine, and then made those mapped drives the library locations in the Plex server settings. My questions are as follows: How much processing does the Plex server do on its end, in terms of transcoding and things like that? The bare-metal server that the Plex VM is running on has a GTX 645 (that is not a typo, I have no idea where I got that OEM card from), but it's not passed through, since I have no idea how to do it on Hyper-V. Is any of it offloaded to the GT 1030 on the media servers end? Is there a benefit to transcode vs non-transcode? The settings in Plex seem pretty obfuscated when it comes to what's best for the computers at each end. What are the odds that all my issues steam from media files having to go from file server > Plex VM > media PC instead of just file server > media PC? If I move the 8TB drive to the main server hosting the VMs, can I pass-through the storage without mapping drives? Does that make them disappear from the host machine? Yes, I could just run the Plex server ON the bare-metal server, but I was going through a bit of a VM experimentation phase at the time, you know, segmenting bits and pieces to keep the main, bare-metal server clean. Don't lie, we've all been there.
  17. I returned mine, but this was one of the many reasons. There was no apparent target fix date.
  18. https://www.makeuseof.com/windows-11-set-up-without-internet-connection/ Shift F10 on that screen to open the command prompt, run OOBE\BYPASSNRO and it’ll reboot to that with the menu option to continue with limited setup.
  19. So I have a lot video recordings on my android phone, I cant backup all of em on google drive due to 15 gb storage limit. Any suggestions regarding this?
  20. I didn't know that! I've been itching to upgrade for a while, and my computer is woefully out of date. Thanks everyone who jumped in. I ordered my stuff and I got most of it already; I don't think the rest of it will come in until Sunday. I did end up going the DDR5 route, though I went with an SFF build (I'd been back/forth on it but I decided I could really use the extra space in an already crowded set up). The shopping list (don't put too much stock into the prices as I ordered from a few different places but they're generally close-ish) Intel i7 14700 It was only a $40 upgrade over the 13700 I was considering so I figured why not?
