Day Six - Helmsman, go to 3/4 impulse

As I'm sure you can all understand I'm very tired after having to wait until 02:30 to manage to write this blog post thanks to not having internet. So I'm not going to make a big song and dance and instead will just go through some of the interesting movements in the ranks.

First up we are going to have a look ay a rising star, firedfly has gained another rank climbing to 7th with 317,026,286 points, meaning Gorgon ended up losing out, he may be able to climb one more rank at his current production rate but will need more power in order to climb higher. Down in 41st we have mehrab2603 gaining four ranks with just over 60,000,000 points, their production looks pretty good and should lead them to climbing higher if they can maintain. Now here is a name I'm very familiar with from my time on the team and the forum as a whole. Ir8munk33 has gained three ranks to take 45th place with 58,832,951 points. Taene has gained a very impressive 12 ranks, if this were lower down the table it would be less impressive, but fitting in 51st there's a very good chance he will take to the top 50 when the next update comes around. He takes his place with 52,296,261 points. leadeater, the consumer of heavy metals, has gained 19 ranks to take up a post in 75th place with 35,748,807 points. Moving further down the table I think we have been conned all along, with Conman1700 giving us a 15m point day leading to him climbing 103 ranks to 117th. He sits with a tidy sum of 20,225,521 points in the bank. Burton3516 also had a good day gaining 14 ranks moving up to 120th with 19,592,983 points. Effinidiot down in 168th gains 112 ranks with 10,464,798 points in the bank and finally jerry_a_h folded for the first time today taking the rank of 343rd with 58,912 points.

Please click on the link below to see the full list of ranks for the event.

For this event all of the ranks will be on one link, there will be individual sheets added for each day, you can navigate these at the bottom of the window.

Folding Month VI Daily Stats

Please remember that this is a friendly event, but we are all folding away for Science, AND GLORY!

I'm really impressed with the numbers we are seeing here, Thank you to all who are involved and who make this worthwhile every year.

Remember we are a team first and individuals second, so give thanks where thanks is due and hit that reaction button when someone helps you out.

Be wary of the minimum participation requirements of this event.

20 Days with activity*, 500,000 Points & 40 WU

(*activity is defined as completing at least 1WU for the 24 hour period)

REMEMBER YOU MUST FOLD FOR TEAM 223518!

Happy folding,

Spec

And so I continue my inexorable rise! ... This was the last of the gas I had to give though, so I'll probably stop climbing ranks in another position or so. I'm really happy to be sitting in the top 15 for now though!

No, I'm happy where I am but Lucky #7 would be nice but I don't want to force @Alex Atkin UK to have an even more expensive electricity bill. Still, not too shabby for 1.4kW 50-75% of the day

Too late, I missed your sneak attack and even chucking all the coal on the fire its inevitable over the next few days you're going to overtake me, as its too darn hot with both 4090s running 24/7 and its unlikely I can resist gaming at some point.

Of course there's an element of WU lottery here, so F@H themselves could throw a spanner in all this, always keeps things interesting.

Man, I'm still not up to the top 50 yet. The competition this year is tough!

I know my hardware will never be competitive for the top 20, maybe not even the top 50, so I'm just hoping the ol' "tortoise and hare" gambit pays off. 🤷‍♂️

Enterprise hardware running well under its design capacity let's gooooo

No, I've slowed down somewhat today as the weekend is over and Electricity is expensive most of the day again. I suspect you'll be pulling ahead of me weekdays and I'll do a bit of catching up on weekends.

Well this just got a whole lot more interesting.

I did a bit of troubleshooting and learning and found I needed to adjust the cooling solutions in my case.

Processor was running a bit too hot and VRMs were setting off my temp. alarms. I swapped my Eisbaer 360 for an NHD14 I had sitting around. This meant I also had to switch from RGB RAM to plain-jane naked RAM. I've been meaning to find a use for the 14 for some time now but it interferes with the height of RGB sticks. RAM speed doesn't seem to be all that important in CPU folding. Temps were still too high on the VRM and the heat saturation of the tower was being accelerated by having my 3080Ti blowing hot air on it (it was also being pulled through the rad on the Eisbaer as well). I fixed this by taking my exhaust fan on the top of the case and flipping it around to blow fresh air on the mobo and tower. This brought the peak temp of the VRM to 75C which was substantially better in addition to dropping the tower temps by 10-12C. Also, I took a sticky note and bent it a bit so the FE fans would redirect their hot prop-wash toward the newly opened 5.25 bay vents instead of the tower.

Pics by request.

There's probably more things I did but don't feel like boring you with a play-by-play.
