After doing some maths with the product brochures/price list to get the Passat Alltrack to Outback spec it costs a shitload.
Starting off with the base price of $57,990:
+$2,500 - panoramic sunroof
+$500 - ambient lighting package
+$1,500 - keyless access + electric tailgate
+$2,500 - driver assist package
+$3,000 - ergocomfort 14 way electric seats including 4 way lumbar & massage
+$3,750 - LED headlights
+$750 - driver knee airbag, rear side airbags & rear seatbelt pretensioners
Total: $72,490. The outback is $59,990.
Problem is that all the optional extras are better than what the Outback has standard (no optional extras for NZ). For example: the sunroof is small on the outback, the ambient lighting is better on the Passat, the driver assist package has more features than the Outback, the seats have more adjustments (lumbar height/curve, massage, 2 way headrests), the LED headlights have dynamic range control and cornering, and the Outback doesn't come with rear side airbags and rear seatbelt pretensioners.
