ECS to make ASUS motherboards? We forgot to discuss this a while ago.

http://www.legitreviews.com/ecs-to-begin-making-asus-motherboards_12897

Gigabyte and MSI won't because they're competitors but ECS will

pegatron will have to dump a lot of gold paint and dye

Could this shake the foundations Asus has laid over the past years?

Displayport 1.3 is epic

http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/84481-displayport-13-8k-and-3d-4k/

- MAYBE coming Q2 2014

- push 8k Res, 3D 4K

- unknown if its gonna be the same connector

- bit-rate will go from 5.4 Gbps in DP 1.2 to 8.1 Gbps per channel in DP 1.3

- 8K resolution, 7680 × 4320 (16:9) (33.1 megapixels) or 8192 × 4320 (~17:9) (35.3 - - - - megapixels

- expect limits in cable length

- getting close to the limits of copper bandwidth - or are we??? Link to hilarious USB cable

Flying Hacker Drone of Doom

http://arstechnica.com/security/2013/12/flying-hacker-contraption-hunts-other-drones-turns-them-into-zombies/

- flies close enough to another drone, detects it, disconnects user, connects itself - wham bam

- We’re gonna need security on drones if people like amazon want to start moving shipments this way…

- Looks surprisingly easy, I’m sure this method will always exist but I don’t think it will be this easy forever - encryption and security will become a thing in the drone space

Google acknowledges G+ comments are terrible

http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2427715,00.asp
- Top comments are often now just friends talking to each other on G+... what the hell?

- This may be off topic, but when i click “all comments” I don't want to have to click see more like 4 times to actually see everything

- So they’re at stage 5 of loss and grief… acceptance… maybe they will fix it now?

OCZ bought out by Toshiba

http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/83675-toshiba-acquires-oczs-asset-for-35-million/

Warranty is still honored currently, not sure if it will be after the acquisition is complete

Doubt they will stay under the OCZ name, Toshiba SSD incoming imo

OCZ paid $32 million for Indilinx

Toshiba bought OCZ for $35 million

End of the link for amd FX processors?

http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/83803-end-of-the-line-for-amd-fx-processors/

- We called this out back in the garage, like… quite a while ago

- This isn’t an “official” roadmap, but its very likely imo

- quick product cycles coming with constant improvements to apu.

- is it really any different from Intel's strategy in the consumer space? Vast majority of the chips they sell are "APUs"

Crytek is evaluating Mantle - Says its looking good so far

http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/84022-crytek-were-evaluating-mantle/

After this it is more likely it can run crysis! ohhhhh old joke thats not super relevant anymore…

More adoption is exactly what mantle needs and this could be really big for them

I’m sure Chris Roberts would be STOKED

“I can't really talk too much about Mantle that's why, so just to get the elephant out of the room we're still evaluating Mantle, so we haven't made any clear decisions yet on that... but we're taking a look at it and it looks good so far.”

Amazon Drones… too much buzz

http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/83164-amazon-testing-drones-for-deliveries/

So many problems… weather, operating cost, reliability, potential for vandalism/theft, FAA regulations, etc.

It may not have been FAKE… but it definitely isn’t as shiny as its made out to be

http://www.theverge.com/2013/12/1/5164340/delivery-drones-are-coming-jeff-bezos-previews-half-hour-shipping - Amazon Drone Shipping

NSA tapped into data-center interlinks at Microsoft

http://www.theregister.co.uk/2013/11/27/microsoft_encryption_nsa_spying/

- tapping data-center interlinks appears to occur mostly overseas – where the NSA can operate solely on presidential say-so alone rather than having to get permission from the courts

- Yahoo, Google, and Microsoft…

- "These allegations are very disturbing. If they are true these actions amount to hacking and seizure of private data and in our view are a breach of the protection guaranteed by the Fourth Amendment to the Constitution." Brad Smith, Microsoft's general counsel

- They didn’t care before… but now that its their stuff they’re up in arms… maybe this is what we needed?

China to have drone shipments quickly

http://qz.com/120654/china-could-become-the-first-country-to-legalize-parcel-delivery-by-drone/

- 20million CCTV surveillance cameras in China can't see through the smog, article below

- could this be a problem for drones? will they be able to see their target? Will they move entirely by sonar? predetermined flight paths?

- laws on drones seem pretty lax - just get approval by local aerial authority and you’re all good

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/asia/chinas-cctv-culture-suffers-as-record-high-pollution-and-smog-levels-render-countrys-20-million-surveillance-cameras-effectively-useless-8924572.html

Black Friday is kinda insane

http://www.democracynow.org/2013/12/2/over_110_arrested_as_record_black

- 15 or so injuries, 1 death, and tons of arrests, aw yeah… black friday

- Fast food workers and big box store workers protesting

- I wonder if all these companies are just gonna have terrible conditions until they are forced to reform then just replace most people with robots… :(

USB Type C

http://www.theverge.com/2013/12/4/5173686/usb-type-c-connector-specification-announced

- Super thin

- reversible

- small (hopefully more durable than micro-usb)

- micro-usb 3.0 was kinda silly…

- Happy to see this for future phones and such

Video playback is worse on 4.4 KitKat

http://blog.gsmarena.com/android-4-4-kitkat-video-playbacks-a-step-back-over-android-4-3-jelly-bean/

best visual result is an original nexus 7 running android 4.3

The test included the analysis of the 720p video playback at 30fps and 60fps along with 1080p videos at 30 and 60fps

Better performance is dull when it comes at a loss of quality

Dear Asus,I want to make this clear:

I do not want an ECS TUF motherboard,an ECS ROG motherboard or ECS Channel series motherboard in my system no matter how well you design it.Even if I must choose an ECS motherboard for my next build,it will not be an ECS Sabertooth Z97,ECS Maximus VII Formula nor an ECS Z97-Deluxe.It will be a Gank Domination.

Hi, I just wanted to find out your guys thoughts on a minimum living wage rather than a minimum working wage.
A few companies in the u.k have started adopting the living wage as well as councils and goverment etc.

Just wanted to say that G-sync is like a mechanical keyboard. You can explain what it is, but people who haven't tried it won't understand how differently it will feel. With that said, I agree with Slick  as until people can actually experience the g-sync monitors themselves it is a rather unknown factor. I understand what it does very well, but I still don't know the effect it will have on my gaming, maybe it'll be huge, maybe it'll be unnoticeable.
