Windows Preparation for a New Motherboard

I currently have Windows 10, a janky mobo that came with a pre-built and an i7 930. What do I need to do so that when my 4690k and z97s come in the transition is smooth?

Probably buy a windows 7 key.

Back up all your files to a different drive.

start planning out your new cable management if possible.

Defrag {if a regular HDD} and do a disc clean up of your current hard drive.

Just suggestions :)

Thanks!

So download the Windows installer onto a flashdrive --> Get a key from reddit.com/r/microsoftsoftwareswap or something similar and start from scratch?

Well, is it the free version of windows 10?

Honestly, Just try the drive after you get the new stuff installed. Windows will pop-up if it needs to be re-activated or not. Then you can take action from there :)   (no need to waste money just try and see)

If it does need re-activating you can call Microsoft, and get the license re-activated if they approve

Yes. I had an HDD with Windows 7, bought a SSD and put Windows 8.1 on there and once Windows 10 came around I did the free upgrade for the SSD.
